9 but I'm okay.

Posted by: ace at March 01, 2012 07:34 AM (nj1bB)

10 I also loved the recent vid you posted from CPAC, of Breitbart getting in the faces of the nasty OWSers.

Perhaps you should take a couple of days off, Ace.  I lost a friend a couple of years ago, it didn't really hit me until the morning after we got the news.

Posted by: Kinley Ardal at March 01, 2012 07:38 AM (BDUnJ)

28 he also has a documentary he's promoting called 'Hating Breitbart" and he had ideas for prank-marketing. So... at first, I just thought, "Oh he's gone too far this time."

Posted by: ace at March 01, 2012 07:40 AM (nj1bB)

33 This, and the time he "showed the union label" on some astroturf protest (while the tolerant lefty calls him a fag and runs away).

Posted by: Jimmuy at March 01, 2012 07:40 AM (nJgwn)

34 As we go forward, it might be good to have this in your forebrain:

"What would Breitbart do?"

Almost no one was the gonzo media crusader that Breitbart was, so if you can take his inspiration to do something - anything - he'd have done, his legacy won't be lost.

And if you were Breibart, you'd be a) reading the comments then b) kicking some media ass.

I was at work, had flicked the TV on to watch the conference.  Ace had been hounding after the story all week, and I'd been hoping for an awesome thread to follow the press conference.

When Breitbart assumed the mic, I laughed like a hyena.  I'd never seen the like of it, and I may not ever see its like again.

Sorry about your friend, Ace. He was a courageous and strong man. From my tiny perspective, it's focuses me on the importance what he did, and the importance of what you do. It's a serious business, really a light vs. darkness matter. Don't cringe please, but God bless you for what you do. And God bless Andrew Breitbart for what he did.

53 You don't have to say sorry for me. I appreciate it, but I wasn't so close to him that that is called for. I was reasonably close. Just close enough that it's like "What?" He had four kids. Wife is daughter of Hollywood actor Orson Bean so I think money-wise they'll be okay (though I don't think anyone's rich here). But four kids without a dad. Wife without a husband.

61 I got up this morning about 1000 and turned on FOX while getting dressed. They had Andrew talking and at first I did not notice anything but after a minute or two I realized it was footage from this news conference. It thought, why are they replaying the Wiener-gate footage? Looking at the screen i saw the words Andrew Brietbart Dead at -- and felt as though I had been sucker punched.

That's the worst part.  I'm sure that Breitbart's co-workers and employees will do what they can to shield the widow and kids from the bullshit the Left is spewing at Breitbart's death, but they will no doubt be exposed to some of it.

When Weiner took the stage, and admitted he had been tweeting pics of his junk, and apologized to his wife and constituents, a reporter asked him if he was apologizing to Breitbart for accusing him of lying. Weiner then said that Breitbart hadn't lied. The reporter then said, yeah, but are you apologizing to Breitbart? Weiner then looked like he was swallowing a lemon, paused, and said yes, I am apologizing to Breitbart as well.

74 I am genuinely upset about this.  My faith precludes me from calling his death "senseless," but... how sorely we needed him.

Perhaps his greatest tribute is a Wiener staffer tearing down the hall screaming "Brietbart's here!  Brietbart's here!"  May they be saying that today to joyous shouts in the hereafter.

That's almost certainly because Jonah Goldberg (who's known Breitbart since the 1990s -- they're good friends) is having to take time to put together the right tribute.  Did you see him on Fox this morning?  He was given the news basically as it broke (he'd appeared ten minutes earlier in-studio for a politics chat) and he could barely keep it together.

It amazes me that in this day and age anyone could die of a similar undiagnosed problem (if that's what it was).. just yesterday Davie Jones died of a massive heart attack.

My heart goes out to his family.

But guys - and gals - get a checkup.. get a stress test.  Heart problems are mostly preventable when caught early these days.

89 I believe it was either Napolean or Talleyrand who once said, "The graveyards of the world are full of indispensable men."

Frequently misunderstood, the intent of the quote is to point out that even the most self important person can and will be replaced if necessary.

But in this case I can not think of anyone who can take over for Breitbart and do what he did, as well as he did it.

99 The first thing I read from Breitbart that stuck in my mind was something he wrote about a personal incident.

He has been having a leisurely lunch on a weekend afternoon, while there was a protest outside the restaurant. Lefties protesting war, signs decrying 'children going off to kill and die'. Damn lefties. AB jumped to a conclusion, same conclusion most of us would have. He flipped the bird to these people he felt were denigrating our troops.

Turns out, they were protesting the use of child soldiers in Africa. AB was embarrassed, and had written the piece in apology. This spoke volumes of the man's character.

This was what I remembered as I stepped out to shovel my driveway.

103 I disappeared from the internet for several weeks this fall.  No e-mail, nothing.  Had lost several close friends to illness, and two youngish friends to sudden heart failure.

Had to take a break and make myself busy.  Now with our boy in harm's way, and two close girlfriends battling cancer, I sometimes feel overwhelmed.

This blog has been a lifesaver.

We're all familiar with the following scenario...it's a social or family gathering of some kind and the lefties feel absolutely no compunction or shame about vociferously putting out thier views. In the interests of civility, we usually refrain from turning a gathering into a debate and stay silent.

Just for fun,  Breitbart them the very next time you're in that spot. I'm already using his name as a verb.

129 [admittedly reposted so it doesn't get lost at the bottom of the last thread] I woke up on the west coast to this holy-shit news and came here first, since I figured he'd be reading from wherever he is now. As you can imagine, I agreed with Andrew Breitbart about less than never. I like to think of myself as pretty sturdy in my commitment to seeing people for the human being they are, not the political stripe they are. God bless him, he tested me often. I know in my heart that was only a testament to his effectiveness. He didn't bat 1,000. No one swinging that often ever could. But he was always swinging. And when you swing more, if you've got any talent at all, you hit more. He hit plenty. My bottom line for him: *That's* how to live your life, man. Make an impact in what you stand for, whatever it is, every day, every minute, because each one could be your last. Don't pull up short. It's possible this post stands at odds with his worldview - not of liberalism, but of liberals themselves. So be it. RIP.

137 Comment at Legal Insurrection:

Last year I met Andrew at a King Street Patriot seminar. And in his memory, I will tell you the story he told me, that more than any story I know, represents AndrewÂ’s approach to the left and how he was willing to pull their chains:

A friend of Andrew’s called him and told him that ACORN was protesting at a bank in Andrew’s home town. Andrew agreed to meet his friend at the ACORN rally. When they got there, Andrew lifted the trunk of his car and got out a set of roller blades. He put them on, and went into the crowd that was shouting “We are ACORN, mighty, mighty ACORN.” Andrew asked them what they were protesting about, filming them as he skated by the people shouting “We are ACORN, mighty, mighty ACORN.”

Andrew said no one could tell him why they were protesting, just that they had been called by ACORN hqs to protest the bank. But he said the crowd was preventing the bank from conducting normal business so he, still skating on his roller blades, started telling the protesters that they were done and were all to meet up at DennyÂ’s (which was just a few blocks away). He said that as he skated to different ACORN protesters, he would tell them the protest was over and they were supposed to meet up at DennyÂ’s.

Andrew laughed so hard as he told us how the crowd dispersed within about 20 minutes and descended on DennyÂ’s. The protesters left and went to DennyÂ’s and Andrew went home.

He, one man, ended a protest by ACORN.

189 What a great man. Losing him at this point where victory is in sight, largely thanks to his efforts, smarts and panache, is simply devastating. Unless you're a psychotic leftist, you could not help but love and appreciate the man. Today has the same feeling that the day R Reagan died had. I'm grateful for all he did, and he certainly showed the way to challenge the statist thugs - he helped turn the tide and consigned the dinosaur MSM to the ashbin of history, a legacy that will live on and on. It's sad that he did not live to see the rebirth of our great nation restored to it's founding principles of individual liberty and limited government, but we're getting there largely because of him (he is a historic figure). Thanks, Andrew.

191 I just texted the news to my brother and he tooka cheap shot at the NAACP video controvers I have no time for people too dim to get the Sherrod story. You have to be pretty thickheaded or dishonest or lazy to not know Breitbart didn't smear her. That the Obama administration fired her, and that the story was about the reaction by the racist NAACP crowd.

Expressions of grief must be limited during times of war.  That's just the way it is.  So I'm sorry, but I need to know that there will be a real and serious investigation into whether this was natural or not.

Assuming political assassinations can and do occur, it would be hard to imagine any higher target for the left than him.  That doesn't mean anything, it's certainly not a suggestion by me that there is something unnatural abou this, but it must be investigated.  These are the times in which we live.

They completely (intentionally) missed the point of the whole story;  to expose the institutionlized racism if the NAACP. And don't forget the fact that it uncovered a gross abuse of litigation againts the US taxpayer to frauds and cheats.

I haven't talked to my sister in years, you get over it.

196 193   I am with you  my friend. My sister is a hard core lefty and all through the Bush years I listened to her BS. We had a few discussions about The SCFOAMF and all the damage he has done. She defends his ass! I finally realized that I had to make a choice between the future of my children and what was right or a relationship with her. I chose my children. Too bad really but that's that.

Well said.

There is no price that I would not pay to see the look on Olivier's face in the Spartacus video reflected on SCOAMF's mug on the first Tuesday in November.

The schadenfreude of that marxist turd being confronted with unforeseen resolve would be breathtaking.

198 That press conference was epic.

I hope that someone has the information on obama that AB was supposed to have tucked away.

I also want to remind everyone here--YOU NEVER KNOW WHICH ONE IS YOUR LAST GOODBYE.  Yes, I am shouting.  When you say goodbye to someone who means a lot to you, add in a phrase to let them know you care.  I came home and found my husband dead on the living room floor and I will always be glad that my last phone conversation with him ended with the words, "Bye, I love you."  So now, when I say goodbye to someone who means a lot to me, I say, "Be well, be happy, be blessed."  It costs you nothing, yet, it can mean the world later on...

"But all of this actually did worry him. He wasn't really fearless. He just acted that way. He overcame the normal reserve we have to make a point."

Thanks for pointing that out Ace.  It shows that Breitbart was _truly_ brave, but also shows that any of us can be the same.

Thank you for the kind words, LiberalAoSHQ Reader - we sometimes forget that MOST people, no matter their political leanings, are basically decent and caring souls.

Condolences, hadn't realized you were a widow too.  You're right it's the little things that you do/don't do that can comfort or haunt you the most.

204 Was it normal for him to be walking around at midnight? And who was walking in addition to "find" him? Does this make sense to everyone here?

Just sat down at the computer for lunch and read this. I feel a sense of loss that is surprising to me. I took for granted that this force of nature would be out there saying the things we felt with the passion that reflects ours. All of us who hae suffered a traumatic loss have a sense of what the family is going through. What a loss.

I for one don't care a bit for what reaction the left or the media has in this. They are simply the foil in our little drama.

208 #210 Polliwog, yes, I am a widow.  But, I learned that piece of wisdom from a friend who paid dearly for it.  She was widowed young, under 30 with two small children.  She and her husband had a big fight and he slammed angrily out of the house and neither one of them said they loved the other nor did they kiss each other.  About twenty minutes later, a State Trooper, was at the door to tell her that her husband had died instantly after crashing into a bridge abutment.  She always wondered if he was so angry that he was literally not seeing straight.
