— DrewM In June 2004, then state Senator Barack Obama attacked George W. Bush's job creation record.
That's 8 years ago to the month compared to today's job numbers. Let's see how Bush and Obama stack up at the same point in their terms, shall we?
How many jobs did the economy created in June of 2004? 112,000 (pdf). This was actually down from previous months. It's actually impressive considering the unemployment rate was...5.6% and had been for much of that year (it's harder to get big job growth when unemployment is relatively low).
Obama actually said that today's awful job numbers are "a step in the right direction".
So to recap...112,000 jobs and 5.6% unemployment was killing the middle class but 80,000 jobs (when there's clearly a job shortage) and 8.2% unemployment is "a step in the right direction".
When Democrats hear that, they chant, "Four more years!".

As someone said in an earlier thread (Drew, maybe? Whatevs, no one else reads the blog either) people already know the economy is bad- you don't need to preach that. Now it's time to focus on linking all of Barack Obama's decisions to the economy.

I am reminded of O's accomplishments by a neat internet printout from somewhere with a list of 101 things he's accomplished. The title is "So, President Obama hasn't accomplished anything?" or something to that effect.
He doesn't feel like any kind of failure, nor do the 'bots. They, and him, look at this administration as the last bastion of goodness and productivity. That's why 0 still polls so high.
You have to take off your glasses of sense and put on the Bot glasses to see it that way. Of course, after removing the Bot specs, your vision will be much like it is when sneaking a peek at the sun and having to blink your way back to normal vision.

Barky's a true believer. He's not smart enough to understand that Dem policies don't actually work; even Reid and Pelosi kind of understand that. He probably cries himself to sleep wondering why Frank Marshall Davis was wrong.

"On May 22, 2012, the NLRB announced that it was accepting briefs from interested parties on the issue of whether faculty members at a university are employees under the Act or are, rather, “managerial” employees not subject to the protections of the Act (and therefore, with whom the employer need not bargain collectively)....An appeals court sent the case back to the NLRB for a more complete explanation of its reasoning, and the Board has asked for briefs on the issue....
"It is likely that the NLRB will decide these cases before the end of the year. Because the NLRB has become a political hot-button, the decisions may well come after the November election but before the Presidential inauguration."

"You do realize that, by any objective measure, the country's in better shape now than it was four years ago, right? That it was Bush, not Obama, who turned a record surplus into record deficits? That it was Bush, not Obama, who was responsible for the stimulus package that Republicans like to (falsely) blame for the country's fiscal problems? And that it's obstructionism on the part of the GOP that's proving to be the big impediment to further recovery? Just asking."

President Obama 42 months in: -1.2 Percentage Point drop in Total Nonfarm Private Sector Jobs /Total Noninstituional Population
President G.W. Bush 42 months in: -3.0 Percentage Point drop in Total Nonfarm Private Sector Jobs/Total Noninstitutional Population

@182....Re: recycled political rhetoric
All of team Barky's rhetoric is recycled.
"Betting on America"....was something that Clinton used to say.
"Forward"....was used by Nazis.
"A step in the right direction"....has been used in lyrics and rhetoric for decades.
Recycled rhetoric....recycled failed ideas....that's all they've got.
And blamethrowing.
They're very good at blamethrowing.

But, I'm in the Federer camp. He'd be #1 again, and that would piss off Djokovic, which would make me happy.
I like Darth Novak but yeah if Rafa can't win, I want Federer to win it.
Gee, the men's final sure has nothing at stake. Just either the first UK guy to win in 74 years or Roger wins his 17th major, gets number 1 back and then he'll end up tying Sampras for most weeks at number 1 ever. Nothing to see here, move along.

Presuming you're not a troll (though I'm holding the answer "Your shinebox" in reserve, here):
George Bush had a generally growing economy 3.5 years into his first term. Even assuming your numbers are accurate (original source, please) we had 3% to lose. There simply aren't many jobs left to lose- which makes Obama's percentages look slightly better.
What George Bush did not have was 8.2% "Official" unemployment (~15% real UE), more debt than all previous presidents combined, a series of foreign policy failures (Hi, Muslim Brotherhood! Liking the Middle East we handed you on a platter?), and a deeply unpopular Health Care bill to his name.

I see. That isn't the knock it out of the park answer I was looking for, but I guess it'll do.
My source is BLS data.
The denominator isnÂ’t workforce, itÂ’s just total noninstitutionalized population.
Bush leads in the overall rate 49.2% vs. 45.7%.
But even as a percent change (rather than percentage point) Bush loses: -5.7% to -3.4%
I was looking for a metric that did not depend on estimates of the workforce. One hopes that the overall rate is the correct metric rather than the change.
