Focus On The House: David Rouzer (NC-07)
— DrewM

Introduction (from his website):

David Rouzer currently owns and operates a business consulting firm providing strategic advice to businesses on a wide range of issues. He also owns and operates a distributorship marketing environmentally friendly products.

Prior to starting his own consulting and distributorship businesses, David had been involved in public policy development and implementation, public relations, and legislative strategy for more than a decade through his work in the Legislative and Executive branches of the Federal government as well as through his work for NC State University.

Opponent:
8 term incumbent Democrat Mike McIntyre is another “Blue Dog” Democrat. While he might have a reasonable claim to the title on votes in the House, his work in committees and his seeming chumminess with unions raises questions.

In the end, if heÂ’s reelected, heÂ’ll vote to make Nancy Pelosi Speaker.

The District:
ItÂ’s a district that was trending Republican before redistricting and has gotten more conservative following the redrawing of the lines.

"We're the underdog in this battle because they drew a seat to predetermine the outcome of the election," McIntyre, who has been in Congress since 1997, said this week.

McIntyre was referring to new district lines drafted by the state's Republican-dominated legislature last year that cut out heavily Democratic precincts in central Wilmington and McIntyre's hometown of Lumberton.

Rouzer, 40, voted for those new lines as a two-term state senator and is a resident of Republican-leaning Johnston County, which was added to the district.
Even before the changes, the district was trending Republican, voting to re-elect President George W. Bush in 2004 and for GOP nominee John McCain in 2008. McIntyre narrowly survived the Tea Party wave of 2010, which swamped many of the remaining rural Democrats in Congress.

The Race:
I can’t find any polling on this race but RCP calls it a “toss up” district. Still given Romney’s growing lead in NC, the districts rightward lean and the fact that the GOP is still spending money there it’s clearly a prime potential pickup seat.

If youÂ’re in the area and can volunteer or want to donate, visit the campaignÂ’s website.

We drove through this district about a week and a half ago on the way to visit my cousin on the coast.

There are tons of Rouzer signs everywhere - and not just at intersections.  I think I saw one or two McIntyre signs at a stop sign.  Driving through, it wasn't even apparent who Rouzer's opponent was, until I saw those two signs.

Incidentally, I also saw a lot of Romney-Ryan signs in front of houses, but not a single Obama sign on a residential plot.

You fucking Idiots in Brunswick County elcted Bill Rabon for Senator. The Cabal of Rabon, Goolsby, and Berger and the gang of twelve starring Justice and tillis Decided to cash in on Rouzers rich ass family. The damn redistricting plan was sitting in a drawer for over a year. This was all planned to screw the old 7th district voters. They split Pender County, and New hanover County, Pantano strongholds and gave the controlling number of votes to Johnston County that is nowhere near here. Rouzers rich ass ag families home zone. My dog could have pissed on a map and drawn a better district. Oh Yeah, and your Asshole Rabon after fucking over Pantano has now endoresed the Democrat. You want to blame someone, start in your backyard.

I wish people would remember that business emails are the equivalent of business correspondence and thus every email should be written with an eye towards how it will sound when it's provided in discovery and then read out loud in court in the worst possible tone of voice. Just because emails are, more or less, immediate doesn't mean they are any less formal. Yes, Virginia, your email to your co-workers about how omfg you cannot believe that Tammye said that thing to the boss about that guy, what the hell is wrong with her, will become everyone else's business. If you need to say something private, pick up the damn phone and say it. If you don't want the entire internet to find out, by the insanity of cthulhu, do not put it in an email. I cannot begin to address the new trend of texting people with business information without my eye twitching. 42 No polls on RCP, probably because there was a GOP run-off that just ended. but I'm hoping the Georgia 2nd race is winnable. Normally it would be a lock for the D's to win with Sanford Bishop, who has been a loyal Dem in Congress (and the CBC) since 1993. But he had been winning by 65% to 35% consistently since at least 2002, then in 2010 he won 52% - 48%. He also had a minor (because he's a Dem) scandal involving scholarship funds this past term.

44 not disparaging but the dude lost badly. Rouzer can win and you feel the urge to get pissy over a dead redistricting battle? This is why we lose year after year. Pantano was not the target of NC redistricting, that's just paranoid. If he won in 2010 he's have a safe seat now.

Posted by: NewBrunswicker at October 17, 2012 10:59 AM (vOeqs) Rouzer is not going to win because all the work Pantano and his supporters did setting him up for 2012 was made for not by an establishment state GOP whose biggest reason for not supporting him was "He aint from here." The New Hanover, Pender and New brunswick county GOP spent an assfull of time trying to crack the tough nut that is Mike Mcintyre. Do you have any Idea how hard it is to convince old school Dems that it's OK to vote for a republican? The people liked Pantano, not the GOP. Then the state GOP decides to shove this Mommas boy rich kid Rouzer up everyones ass? They fucked it all up. All of those Dems are going back to mike, Rouzer will lose and the state GOP has no one to blame but themselves.

48 Attachments, too. I hope the jury likes Business Cat. Oh. Oh the stories I could tell about attachments and getting them in discovery. A part of this is trying to explain email systems to the people involved. Let's just say that most lawyers and most judges are not highly technologically advanced. I've had more than one who's on first conversations where I say "you didn't give us all the stuff from the emails" and I get "we gave you all the emails!" Me "Where are the attachments?" "But we printed out all the emails." "With no attachments." "You don't know there are attachments, you're just fishing now." "Well, since this email says see attached and there's the notation on the email referring to the attachment by the file name of the attachment but there's no attachment, you didn't give me the attachment." "But we printed out all the emails!" And round and round and round. My other favorite variant is "You didn't request the attachments!" Oh. Okay. So the discovery request that said "Provide a copy of all emails including any and all attachments to the emails with the attachment in the original file format of the attachment" meant something else instead.

Adding most of Johnston Co to the 7th (it was mostly in the 2nd where Renee Ellmers beat Bob "the mauler" Etheridge in 2010) should seal the deal. After the 2010 election there wasn't a single county wide elected democrat in Johnston County.

55 Adding most of Johnston Co to the 7th (it was mostly in the 2nd where Renee Ellmers beat Bob "the mauler" Etheridge in 2010) should seal the deal. After the 2010 election there wasn't a single county wide elected democrat in Johnston County.Posted by: Adobe_Walls at October 17, 2012 11:58 AM (lqCRt) That was the point. How convenient that they added Johnston County as a whole to a coastal district. Because the outskirts of Raleigh have so much in common with Cape Fear. The Rucho, Berger, Tillis, Cantor cabal drew the district for Rouzer because he was their buddy. Then Berger "persuaded" all of the sitting freshman State Senators (Goolsby, Rabon - POS, et al) to endorse him 35 nanoseconds after Rouzer announced. There are plenty of folks in Pender, New Hanover, and Brunswick Counties that have not forgotten the backstabbing. The Johnston GOP refused to let Pantano have any platform - they banned him and his supporters from their FB page, they moved meetings and times when they found out Pantano would attend, they wouldn't let him say anything at their county convention and they used their Lincoln-Reagan dinner as a Rouzer platform by having him be their keynote speaker. Pantano won Cape Fear, but the splitting of New Hanover and Pender ensured that Johnston would bring it home for their favored son. Rouzer has a tough battle against McIntyre because he's a pussy. He is uninspiring and lacks energy. Even The Hill said he has a total lack of charisma. He always looks and talks like Obama in the first debate. Pantano would have won. But the "smart" people were pulling the freaking carpetbagger card every ten minutes. I still think McIntyre will win. And even though I will vote for Rouzer. I hope he loses.

56 Oh, and Renee Ellmers? Dennis-Freaking-Kucinich has a better constitutional voting record than she does. At best, she is only voting with the Constitution 50% of the time. She either went native as soon as she crossed into the DC alternate universe or she isn't bright enough to know what conservative principles are. I think it is both.
