Tom Jensen, director of PPP, also notes that Walker's ads have been devastatingly effective in both defending himself and tearing his potential opponents apart:
The biggest change is probably that this was our first time using a likely voter screen, We found with almost all of the recall elections last summer that the electorate just wasn't as Democratic as 2008, even if people were at least more excited about the recalls than they were about the 2010 elections. Gov. Scott Walker gains a few points as a result of that.
The other thing is that independents have flipped from our last poll, from supporting Milwaukee mayor Tom Barrett by 12 to going for Walker by three. We've seen independents go back and forth on Walker several times over the last year, though I'm not certain what causes that. Walker's been very aggressive about getting on the air and that may have helped firm up his standing, especially as Democrats fight amongst each other over their nominee.... Screening this poll for likely voters (as opposed to just registered voters) has had one other notable effect: Walker's job approval has ticked up, from 47-52 to 51-48. But it's had an even bigger effect on Barrett's favorables, which went from 41-33 to 41-45, a fall of 12 points. Former Dane County Executive Kathleen Falk saw a much smaller net drop of 5, going from 31-42 to 36-52. Barrett's been the target of some tough attacks both from certain unions (which are backing Kane) as well as Walker, who has aired ads going after both leading Democrats, but apparently has made Barrett his focus.
Oh, and if you think the good news stops there, a big bounce for Romney in Wisconsin as well: Romney now trails Obama 50-44, down from a massive 53-39 lead for the President.
So...keep up the fight in the Badger state.
UPDATE Gallup has finally started it's daily tracking of the Presidential Race. Amongst registered voters Romney's bounce over the President has now been confirmed, he leads Obama 47-45. Better, he carries 90% of the Republican vote right out of the gate, leads Obama amongst independents, and amongst those certain to vote, Romney also edges the President. Romney is now ahead in the Presidential race, as I suspected he would be the moment the nightmare primary would finally, finally end. Romney now averages a 2 point lead. It is our job to make that grow.
Update #2 Sidebar Daily adjusted. I should have waited for the Gallup release before adjusting my numbers, but fixed now. I also added the Rasmussen and Gallup Daily Tracker margins (listed as RasTrack and GalTrack) to the bottom of the bar. If another company starts a daily tracker, I'll average them out and list just one.

Further, for those races without a primary, May 5th is actually the election date, and not a primary, so for Lt. Governor, and the recalls for the republican state senators, people *NEED* to go vote on the 5th as those will likely be the actual elections and not primaries.

Generally, I believe if a candidate is up 5% over their opponent, it is virtually impossible to overcome that lead through election fraud.

-Kelly will then face Giffords' aid, Ron Barber, on June 12

-Democrats say they look forward to facing off against Kelly. They will attack on him supposedly wanting to end Social Security and Medicare. Democrats will also point to Kelly's use of certain imagery during the 2010 election that inspired the shooting.

Teresa, actually it is a lot closer than that. A contest has to be in the low thousands to be flipped through fraud.
That makes sense - maybe the 5% that I am thinking about is in local/state elections.
Of course, in Presidential elections, there are so many variables to be considered, and so many different precincts in so many different states that it SHOULDN'T be able to happen. I think Bush/Gore was something that is only seen once or twice in a person's lifetime.
Honestly, I don't see this election being close at all - it's shaping up to be 1980 all over again. And remember that Clinton is the only incumbent Democrat President since FDR to be re-elected.

Going on nothing more than my gut, I would say a good and properly flipped Wisconsin is as good an indication of the sea change we're about to see this year.
That being said, I'd like to see the state resoundingly reject the forces of the left, with Walker's recall victory being the indicator that they're on the right side to stay.

Again- not very relevant. There are Dems who consider themselves "conservative" though they'll happily vote for liberals. Self identification using terms that can be interpreted in a non-political way aren't that useful.

I did not realize till just now that this morning, the Wisconsin Supreme Court has declined to hear the appeal regarding Voter ID. Law was passed and lib judges in Wisconsin issued an injunction against it. It was to go to the Supremes for review. Our hope was that they would hear the appeal and let the law stand. I don't know what happened here.

The state Supreme Court refused Monday to immediately take up a pair of cases that struck down the state's new voter ID law, a decision that will likely mean citizens won't have to show ID when they cast ballots in recall elections this spring.
The court's terse orders send the cases back to two different courts of appeals. The appeals courts had said the Supreme Court should take the cases right away because of their significance. Now, the appeals courts will have to render their own decisions on the cases.
The cases could then go to the Supreme Court, and are widely expected to be decided by that court.
But in the short term, the rulings mean the voter ID law will remain blocked. The court issued its orders just three weeks before the May 8 primary for Democrats to pick a candidate to run against Republican Gov. Scott Walker in the June 5 recall election.

Intrade is kinda like the stock market....for instance, in '04, when the exit polls were showing Kerry ahead, Bush's number dropped to about 10 (dollars per share). I scooped up a bunch of Bush shares. When Bush won, he closed at 100, so I made 90 bucks on each share. (I lost a few individual states, but I was feeling lucky). As I said, if I had had more guts (and money) I could have really cleaned up.
But as a predictor, no, I wouldn;t say it's very accurate.

The Democratic primary wasn't over and Obama hadn't gotten his "unity bounce" in April of 2008. The Republican primary is now pretty damn over, and Romney enjoyed a good bounce in polling, just as Obama did when he finished off Clinton late spring 2008.

Yes, they do. Which leads to an interesting point. Property taxes actually went down this year for the first time ever. The only schools that are having financial difficutlties are the ones where the union teachers hurried up and re-negotiated their contracts before the Walker reforms went into effect, which means for the next two years those districts have to suck it and pay out what they were paying before.
The Dems election strategy is changing because of this. They are seeing that the whole collective bargaining issue (which is what started the recall) is a losing issue for them. Now the ads you see are targeting Walker's supposed "war on women" and the usual Dem talking points. They have had to shift focus because their original premise is not a winning issue for them anymore.

Everybody needs to copy and follow this:
1) To avoid weird formatting (eg. breaks in the middle of a line and hidden HTML code) copy everything into MS notepad first, clean up any unwanted line breaks and then cut or copy it from there into the comment box.

The proposal is particularly popular among Democrats and independents, but a small majority of Republicans also supported it.
The Senate is expected to take a procedural vote later Monday on the Buffett Rule, which is expected to fall short of the 60 votes needed to move it to the Senate floor.
The poll was conducted Friday through Sunday, after former Sen. Rick Santorum suspended his bid for the GOP nomination.

Generally, I believe if a candidate is up 5% over their opponent, it is virtually impossible to overcome that lead through election fraud.

CNN has Pres. up 5 w/ indies.
Gallup has Romney up 6.
Gallup is 5-day avg of 2,265 Registered voters.
CNN 910 Registered Voters.
