— Ace This isn't really news, but it's worth mentioning.
I'm going to bold-face some words from this story.
“We’re looking to maximize revenue and maximize the reputation of 1 World Trade Center,” Douglas Durst, who is building the Freedom Tower in partnership with the Port Authority, told The Post. The antenna business alone could easily rake in $10 million in revenue, estimates show.
...
“You’ve got to get people back to thinking of the trade center not as a site of an attack but as a center of commerce,” said one person who has been involved with the reconstruction of lower Manhattan.
“You’ve got to think about it as a real-estate thing. And real estate is transactional — it’s about competition and retail and tourists.”
I don't know these people's politics. Given where they live, and their income level, I would put money on them being liberal Democrats.
So here's why I bolded those words:
The left frequently speaks as if Commerce Is Theft.
And yet here you have people, who I would bet are liberal, speaking of commerce and competition and "maximizing" revenue as if, get this, those are good things.
You will often hear Hollywood people demanding tax breaks for local production. Otherwise, they say, they cannot profitably make movies in the US, and will film them in Canada.
And then, having pronounced that Taxation Reduces Economic Activity, they will turn around and donate $1 million to Barack Hussein Obama.
In their hearts they know these things the left claims -- Commerce Is Theft, Profit Is Evil -- are false. In their daily lives, they know this.
But at voting time, they counterfeit their beliefs. They convince themselves that even though they know Profit is Not Evil, good people speak falsehoods, and good people declare things which are false to be true.
It's not true-- but good people insist it is. And so they do.
Very strange self-deception. And to what end? In what code is falsehood superior to truth?
Below, video of the tower, lower levels mostly finished, top levels still needing their skin.

I am glad this tower is Finally being built.
By comparison in the 1960's we went to the moon in less than ten years.
The original towers took less time to build.

It was the only smile I had during those days.
Sorry, but I think "Freedom Tower" is a dumb damn name for the building. Better it had gone back to WTC.
I would, however, be 100% in favor of a nice, deep "Freedom Crater" glowing eerily at night in, say, Mecca.

This is such an excellent point.....I thought it deserved to be carried over to this thread.
There were O-supporters dancing in the streets, celebrating the death of Bin Laden....just like we see people in muslim countries doing over the death of Americans. ....It was sort of creepy to me, even though I was glad he was dead.
And Barky was quick to go to Ground Zero, as a part of his "I killed Bin Laden Tour" last year.
So...prosecuting our soldiers, for essentially doing the same damn thing, is yet another outrage against our military folk, imo.

I don't understand the liberal mind. I've never thought that way, so I just don't understand how they don't get the connection between tax breaks for making movies, but then arguing for higher taxes. That being said, I think some of it is they truly believe they are owed certain things. The government must dole out such largesse to certain people, and they have paid the penace to be on the receiving end. They know it works, but they don't want all to benefit. Because if they don't get it freely from the government, they will have to work for it. So yes, a tax break helps me. But if everyone got the tax break, that wouldn't help me. Because that is illogical, they then demand that other support the people they are actively trying to screw over. They are all for union solidiarity to raise the meager salaries of those who work on movies, but they will not give up some of their millions or their royalties.

First: as has been pointed out: then why do they vote for people who do believe that?
Second: that's actually the point of Ace's post. Reading comprehension is kind of a minimum requirement for the blog- we're unclear often enough that if you don't even keep up with what's actually written, you'll never follow an argument from one end to the other. His whole point was that they don't believe those things- they don't act that way in their own lives, but then they turn around and vote that way. Every. D*mn. Time.

But they are not voting against their psychic interest, and that's really what's going on. Spreading other people's money around makes them feel better about having money.
It's also all about pulling up the ladder behind them after they've made their pile. Now that they're well off, they're all about confiscatory taxes and over-regulation, because that makes it harder for other people to get to the same level of wealth that they have.
See? It's for the children. It's all very simple really.

No doubt arguing with a liberal is useless. Here is what I truly find hard to understand. How do people who were once conservative become liberal? The quick answer is because the left promises them something they don't already have - whether it be media attention (Huffington), roles (actors), tenured tracks (professors), free benefits (most Democratic voters), but why do people earning a good living in the private sector vote Dem? I just don't get it.

25, so if profit is taxed, then those who tax it must think it is evil? Then apparently both Republicans and Democrats think that income and the sale of goods is evil. Of course they don't. Get it?
Are you trying to be stupid? Really, if you're trying, you're doing it really well.
If you're not... well, you're really gifted.
No one is arguing that taxation should cease- but we are arguing against the redistributive policies of the idiot (malfeasant) Liberals. It wasn't a Republican who said, "At some point, you've made enough money," or "I pay less taxes than my secretary."

Meh. The World Trade Center was really just the Twin Towers. It isn't the World Trade Center without them, no matter what the legal name is. If they wanted it to be the same, they should have rebuilt the twins, taller (though it's sort of silly competing in skyscrapers when they are bulding half-mile tall buildings in the middle of the friggin desert ... the guys who took the Twin Towers down, interestingly ... seriously. The Bin Laden group has the contract for the 300 story Saudi tower going up in a wasteland. Yep.

I wouldn't work there for two reasons, and neither of them have to do with being built on "ground zero."
One- it's in NY, and that's a non-starter for me.
Two- BUILDINGS SHOULDN'T SWAY!!!! I'm mostly fine with heights (don't ask me about step-ladders, though), but when I feel a building swaying under me, I can't get down to the ground floor fast enough.

Try to erase those first-hand memories from your head fuckstick. Then sit on the fucking antennae.
