Bleg: Can you take off work on election day? If so, you should volunteer to either be a poll watcher or work in the phone banks. Each polling place is allowed to have a poll watcher from each party. They tend to serve two purposes.
If you are in a heavily Democrat area, then your main job will be to prevent fraud. Make sure they judge of elections(supposedly neutral, but often not) is following the election law rules. Normally, your county committee will give you a phone number to call if you see fraud. They have lawyers standing by to deal with any situation.
The other job is to work a strike list. A strike list is three identical pieces of perforated paper. On each piece of paper is a voters name, party ID and phone number. You cross off the voters name from your list as they come in. Then aat a designated time, a Republican volunteer will come in and take one of the three pieces of paper back to a call center where a phone bank is busy calling up people who haven't voted. The Republican volunteer will come back for the other pieces of paper again later in the day.
If this sounds like something you'd be interested in, then please contact your local Republican committee and let them know. This is how we get out the vote. This is how we will prevent fraud in heavily Democratic areas. Make sure you do everything you can to ensure a Romney victory.

Good imagery on Romney's part. He looks more Presidential than the actual, you know, President. Can't wait for the Dems to throw their hissy.

On the poll watcher thing, often you won't have to be there from 6:30am to 8pm. They try to break it down into shifts if they have enough volunteers. I will be poll watching from 6:30 am to 1pm.
This is probably the best way you can help your party on election day. When you hear people talk about GOTV operations, this is what they're talking about. Will you do your part?

So the voice of the people was heard...after 70,000 voice mails and a deluge of texts protesting the NFL replacement refs, the real refs were back on the job last night. They received a standing ovation.
Imagine if DOJ had been bombarded with texts and voice mails demanding the truth about Fast and Furious. Or the White House switchboard shut down due to complaints about the resident family's profligate spending of taxpayer dollars.
The priorities of John and Jane Q. appear to be seriously misplaced and disordered.

@9, If I ever trick a girl into marrying me, she won't be doing many chores. I love cleaning my house, in fact I don't think I would trust anyone else to clean it as well as I do. Also, I love yardwork and gardening.
The only think I hate doing and suck at is laundry, folding and ironing. That would essentially be my imaginary wife's only chore.

New Warren post at LegalInsurrection.
>>The Warren campaign refuses to detail the full scope of Warren’s private legal activities from her Cambridge office, but details are being uncovered day by day. Much as with Warren’s history of “checking the box,” Warren’s campaign makes categorical statements, refuses to release records, and waits to see if others will be able to find details and documents.

Fair warning, the WSJ poll that was very good for Romney has dropped from RCP, while the Fox poll that is good for Obama has gone in. You are going to see tightening towards the middle in all of the averages.
Based on history, I'm expecting Rasmussen to be Obama +2 today.

We have an iron and an ironing board. The last time it was used was about 2005 time frame when I was getting stuff together to go to a dinner ceremony with a bunch of big wigs from work. I discovered my white dress shirts had all shrank in the collars (we had got rid of ties a long time before that). I had t rush down to the store and buy a new dress shirt and press it because I didn't have time to take it to the cleaners.
To my knowledge it had not been used a long long time before that. Now that I am retired there is no chance will get used. I never wear shirts or slacks that require pressing now except for weddings and funerals. I can get stuff pressed in advance for them.

My Princess Bride story.
In 1992 I was I had moved from the city and was living in the Hudson Valley in NY. I was at the gym in the morning after having watched the Princess Bride on TV the night before. I was doing dumbbell presses on a bench when a guy came over and looked down at me after I finished my set and asked how many more I had so that he could use the bench. I didn't answer him right away because I was trying to take in that the Evil Prince Humperdinck was asking me a question. Apparently Chris Sarandon was a guest in our gym that day.

The other job is to work a strike list.
Gawd, we need this in Dallas (Texas) County. The Democrats made this a blue county six years ago and ass GOP voters haven't managed to evict them yet.
The problem is twofold: low GOP turnout and a failure to vote straight-ticket. Figures show that if just 5 percent more GOP voters finished their ballots, we would take back all the county offices.
I'm a precinct chairman so if you want info on how to help, e-mail me using the link at the bottom of my site, which is linked below.

Honestly? Good sign. This hasn't been a great media week for Romney, the 47% thing is near its end and the campaign changes with the debate. This is noise, I think, not a long-term trend. What shocks me is that people don't seem to be bothered by the fact that an ambassador was raped, murdered and raped again and that a man has been arrested for (pretext aside) making a video.
I don't know if the 86%/85% numbers are real (they seem low to me) but if 15% of Dems are really not supporting Obama now, he doesn't get them back.

Oh lord yes. They lost over a hundred stores since July alone. Even some of the top performing stores have had drastic (>50%) losses in sales in the past year.
It's not just the economy that's killing the franchisees, it's the management of the brand. I could go on for quite awhile on the mismanagement on all levels, but suffice it to say if you like the food (and the food is really good in a well run store) go get it because they may not be there that much longer. Now, I've seen maybe a dozen Obama 2012 bumper stickers, most of the rest are faded and four years old. Not a single yard sign to be found. Now that said, Romney/Ryan enthusiasm isn't that great, only seen about as many bumper stickers, but then again, I woudn't risk putting one on my car in this area, and I assume most other Romney supporters in the area feel the same way. This is not to say Romney has any chance of winning here, but if Obama is having a hard time getting the NY libs to support him (and yeah, my liberal friends hate the scoamf) I can't imagine he's doing all that great across the country.
Romney in a landslide.

I don't think information about politics is difficult to access. The internet and conservative talk radio provide an alternative to the Parade of Alphabet Ministers of Truthiness. People just don't give a shit. It's easier to parrot the talking points of The Intellectually Lazy, such as: "Both parties are the same, there's no difference"...than to do a little actual research take the time to care about who your own state rep is. If nothing else, it'll help expedite DMV issues. Do John and Jane Q. need a directive from Oprah or Matt Lauer to find out who their local elected representatives are? If that is the case, we are well and truly boned.
All the time that fantasy footballers spend researching stats so they might be able to cash in to the tune of 50 or 60 bucks at the end of the season. While the Choomer in Chief and Co. are systematically dismantling the middle class and creating a bigger dependency class.
But bring us the bread and circuses, it'll be all good in the hood.

>>I'm amazed when I go to the dry cleaners and see all those shirts hanging. How can people afford to have their shirts done?
How much does it cost to get a shirt dry cleaned? Also, I don't think people get them dry cleaned after each time it's worn. I think they take it to the dry cleaner when it gets a stain, starts to smell, or after the 8th or 9th wearing.
I don't wash my collared shirts with the same frequency I wash the rest of my clothes.

Lots of leases expiring now too and most are just waiting for that to happen so they can be released of all personal guarantees (Quiznos corporate doesn't guarantee leases, the franchisee does) befor ethey shut it down.

However, it was damaging and does show up in the polling internals that I have seen. I've also seen the Obama ad on it, and it looks effective. If I were persuadable, it would work on me.
We are lucky that Obama felt compelled to put it out early and not in late October, it would have been much worse. Romney will need to counter it somehow, either directly or by moving the conversation to something else.
Now I'm not talking about it is moving large numbers of people, but it is worth 2 to 3 points of support toward Obama. Given that Romney is only winning by 1 to 2 point right now, that could be dangerous.

Massachusetts. The question is the answer.
Remember that the tainted Kool-Aid is mass-produced and easily available to the Great Unwashed (i.e. Democrats). All y'all may be motivated to dig around for actual facts, but too many people look at the evening news shows and say "oooo, that Barack Obama is one great man! He done killed that A-rab guy! Gave me a free phone, too!"
Seeing these people around, reading their comments at various sites and just plain old experience with idiocy among our citizens tells me the polls may be more accurate than morons are willing to believe.
I don't know what the answer is. Too many years of "playing the game" of politics, too many years of a eunuch-filled Congress, too many years of easy welfare and too many years of liberals being in charge of education have caused irreparable damage.
It isn't what you know to be true that will affect this election; it is what the low-info idiots across the country feel that is going to determine the result. How do we fix that? I'm beginning to fear that we can't. Unless those at the head of the parade get their minds right, what we do means little.
(And no, I am not being an Eeyore, FFS.)

Posted by: General Woundwort at September 28, 2012 10:12 AM (06lNq)
Most Quiznos are only marginally more expensive than Subway. For example, my restaurant is only 4% more expensive overall than the closest Subway. Many products are actually cheaper. Price isn't the issue and carrying Pepsi products isn't something that kills a national chain. (Quiznos also doesn't feed you shit sandwiches)
Their problem comes down to menu inconsistency, massive store closures, failure to effectively advertise for about three years (until two weeks ago), and a horrendous profitability structure.

I get your MFM point, but the core of most the stories that they are suppressing is the question of Liberty, and constitutional rights and process. In this regard, Americans are woefully ignorant. Ask any legal immigrant who now enjoys residency here. They know that the average American in no way appreciates how good we have it in comparison to the rest of the world. And this state of blissful ignorance leads the majority of us free to focus on really important pursuits like American Idol, Honey BooBoo, and sports.
When Roy Oswalt was pitching for the Phillies, he took a leave to help out his Mississippi hometown who were suffering from a tornado. He came back, when questioned by a hostile press, he stated that his priorities are God, family, then his job. He got a raft of shit from the locals for making that statement. I don't think it's the MFM's fault that Philly's baseball fans thought Oswalt was an asshole for putting God and family before MLB.

I suggest buying one at a time of the higher end ones like Calvins, Murano. Ralph Laurens, or even Jockey. You can find them in single packs, and often at discount places like Marshalls or T J Maxx. That way you can try them without buying 3-6 of them. My guys all really like the Calvins, they seem to last longer...don't get see through thin like others.

First they took out school prayer and in a lot of cases the pledge of allegiance unless you remove "under God" from it.
Next they took out education
Now they are taking out food for the children
It is way past time the people either took the feds out of the schools or just shut down public schools (and their taxes) all together.
