— Open Blogger Well, well, well morons. Only 32 days until the general election. Have you done your part? Mitt Romney has been attending fundraisers, rallies and events every day. He spent weeks boning up for the debates. He's keeping up his end of the bargain. Are you?
Per DrewM, the GOP is making a big push tomorrow for volunteers and voter contacts.
Also, you'll notice the Romney/Ryan election day volunteer link in the sidebar. Find out if you can take half a day off on November 6th and volunteer. The only way we're going to win this thing is if our ground game beats their ground game. We need people at polling stations to monitor for fraud, work strike lists, give rides to elderly voters and make election day phone calls to get out the vote.
When November 7th rolls around, are you going to be able to honestly say to yourself that you did everything you could to prevent a second Obama term?
Oh and Mitt Romney is surging.
The Balls On That Guy!
Seriously. It took a lot of balls to say this to POTUS's face.
Potus stopped to meet people waiting for him, where he did the requisite hand-shaking, high-fiving and the rare baby-holding before going on to chat with proprietors at Turczyk's Meats and the adjoining Larry Vilstein's, Christopher Bakery and Edward Badbuster & Son. He then asked the proprietor at Rolston Poultry how business was going. "Terrible since you got here," the man said. Pool could not get close enough to the Rolston Poultry man to get his name or political affiliation. Potus didn't appear amused by the sentiment.
Japan's LED Stacked Cubesat Will Burn Morse Code Into The Heavens
If you thought cloud writing was cool, then how about a message from space burnt into the night sky? A group of unassuming cubesats recently left the comfort of the ISS and joined Earth's orbit -- among them was FITSAT-1 (aka Niwaka), a four-inch-cubed Japanese satellite covered in high-powered LEDs. Its mission is to broadcast the message "Hi this is Niwaka Japan" in Morse code, using bursts of intense light to draw dots and dashes across the heavens. FITSAT-1 was originally planned to appear only over Japan, but a flurry of interest means it'll be touring the globe, starting next month. It'll also find time for its studies, beaming VGA images snapped with an onboard camera back to Earth, to test a high-speed data transmitter.

Lady Gaga's NYC Restaurant About As Sickening As Her Music

On top of a series of scathing reviews, the New York City restaurant owned by Lady Gaga and her family this week scored miserably during a Department of Health inspection that found six "critical" violations, including failing to protect food from potential contamination.

Evening 'rons and 'ettes. Put in a contract on a house tonight, not to be confused with the new Casa del Crank that was under construction and I have since gotten a release on the contract--there were significant discrepancies between the build and appraise cost that were not apparent initially and I bailed as soon as I could get a lawyer and sufficient cash to appease the builder. Same general area but 5 acres of land (as opposed to about 1/3 an acre), a pond, and about 1400 extra square feet of living space.
Also, I cannot wait to vote TFG out of office.

Take half a day off? Volunteer?
Hell, out here in Commiefornia, the typical large-city public employee union contract employs a couple of people whose role is that of "coordinator" or some such circumlocution. These people do no work on behalf of the general public, ever. They solely represent their fellow union members' interests.
On Election Day, those people aren"t having to ask for a half day off. They work a full day, with full pay, on "union business". Which is, of course, doing ground-game GOTV for public-union-allied Democrats. While having their salaries and expenses paid for by taxes on the public at large.
You can see how insidious that is. Want to stop it before it spreads further? Then genuine GOTV volunteering in opposition is absolutely key. As for stopping it here in CA? Forget it. This state already went full retard, and will not be fixed short of a final cathartic collapse and bankruptcy.

It's all complete horseshit, kb. They are lousy with gas, it's just not in the proper formulation for them to legally sell it until the (epically stoopid) "summer gas" season is over. Again, that senile crank in Sacto could change it on a dime. My guess is he's waiting for a blowjob from somebody.

Trying to convince my husband we should volunteer, but we want to know what we will be doing before we give them our info.
In NC we are supposed to watch and record, and call the hotline if we see anything untoward. Basically, the poll-watchers are the eyes and ears of the party at the local level, dealing with problems is left to a team of lawyers. Also we get the "who has voted" list and pass it on a couple times of day to facilitate GOTV efforts.
Not too hard, I think.

I'm working the polls all day Nov 6th.
On September 24th, we had a special election for selectman. Ours is a tiny little suburb of Providence, just over the border in Massachusetts. Republicans outnumber Democrats by a small margin here.
Out of approximately 1350 votes cast, we found that only about 1300 voters had shown up to cast a vote or had voted absentee. The Democrat won by 35.
Even in our little town, vote fraud happens to the tune of four percent.
I'll be damned if it happens again.

Good seeing them but I'm beat.

Whenever a district shows more votes cast than could possibly have been cast and the fraud delta is large enough to swing the election, the result need to be voided and a new election held.
This is a idea that should be pushed from the bottom up at all levels. I don't see how the Democrats could possibly object. Its a lot harder to support blatantly fraudulent post-election results than it is to bitch about pre-election stuff.

My stepdad had a diesel back in the early 80's, and since our house used heating oil, he installed a pump on the tank for our tractor. That tractor barely moved, but he filled his car up from that all the time.
He even had an underground gas tank that I used to fill my car up from time to time. That tank was for our other tractor, that got as much use as the diesel tractor.

A harley is no bargain in the MPG area. If you put enough fuel into them you'll be getting 25-30 mpg. They run them way way lean from the factory to get them up into the 40 mpg area, but as soon as you get some fuel into them to make any kind of power and get them running a tad cooler they start heading to the 30 mpg mark. They got big pistons. lol

Motorcycles have much poorer emissions controls than cars. They'll use less fuel and thus emit less CO2, but only fuckwits care about CO2. Motorcycles emit tens of times more NOx and CO (actual problem emissions, not fake problem emissions) than cars which use even twice the fuel.

I didn't say unmodified, I said as soon as you build any kind of power and get away from the factory fuel settings the gas millage goes down. I hear it all the time from people who wonder what happened. To get the plugs that nice tan color requires fuel, and it takes more than they give it from the factory. I used to have dudes pulling up on new evos and the pipes would be glowing cherry red under the guards from being too lean. You take a stock evo with it's hot 62 HP and push that sucker close to 90 HP and you are burning fuel, end of story

The 40hp 1200 would get just over 40mph on the highway in a 1971 chassis and whatever the stock 71' tranny gearing was.
The old 40hp wasn't a stump puller, but it would shove the beetle up over 70mph if you gave it a bit of time to get there.
1961 engine tech, in a 1971 chassis stomps the shit out of most cars on the highway today in MPG.

There's modern cars that weigh in the 1800lb range, like the beetle did, that only come close to what the old 40hp engine did.
You could add 400lb to the beetle's weight and still get 40+mpg...because I was always carrying 400lb worth of shit in it when I measured the mpg.
Its more than just safety equipment.

When I was an experimentalist, it was focused on Chromium and Boron. Hexavalent chromium is like much worse than trivalent chromium. Which is still much worse than atomic chromium. So the question is: Is there anything one can add to an incinerator flue to affect what we're getting -out-?
Aluminum compounds are used in solid rockets. Boron compounds manage higher energy densities. But they don't -burn- very well. Why? And wtf can we do about it?
Then I was a theoretician. There I focused on the lanthanides and actinides. (Where there were literally -no- reaction rate predictions for swaths of the table).

Since my back surgery in 04, I have felt like an old man, but I started lifting weights again a couple of years ago, and I don't feel as old now.
You are very lucky to have no memories of Carter's term. Back then, MrCaniac, Sr. was a very good southern Democrat and was excited as hell that a southern Democrat was elected President. He even met Carter on a plane flight going to Atlanta. MrCaniac, Sr. decided that he would follow the President's advice by turning the thermostat down to 65 degrees. I don't think he did it to support the President, but he was very thrifty when it came to spending money, so he had the President backing him up when my mom complained. By 1980 though, he became a Reagan Democrat. He still supported Dems in Virginia, but GOP at the Federal level. I'm glad I was just starting to sprout my short hairs when he became President, and was a horny teenager and college student when RR was President.

If he wants to pursue an MS or PhD because he loves chemistry and wants to study it as his vocation, that changes things, but requires a huge commitment and a special person to finish the job and do it well enough to be a teacher to others who share that interest. FWIW, I have a bachelor's in chemistry, started from the bottom, and know what follows for him if he follows that path. You're one rung above the biology majors for decent jobs, but that's about it. It's still promising, but not to the extent of the ChemE.

Totally, because the independents have to pay the bills. They have to pay for the gas, and the repairs. My brother's FIL drove a truck, not his own, and is an ass sucking leftist, because like the rest of them somebody else footed the bill so he could care less. Of course he didn't have to deal with the operating costs of the truck he drove, so like a typical leftist he must think it happens by magic.

I'm a Realtor, and it is about 50-50. Mostly because we get some of these people who decide to take it on after they retire, and the housewives who need to find a vacant house to bang their boyfriends. The real Realtors who are fulltime and brokers, are mostly conservative/libertarian, but they love having the government protect them with a lot of bullshit regulations.

Much like ChemE, that was not mentioned either. Any kids willing to go into skilled trades at this point are practically guaranteed good incomes and constant work. I was happy to see R^2 pushing that by linking up with Mike Rowe's foundation last week. We have a shortage of welders, pipefitters, plumbers, etc., but Teh Won wants every kid to take out loans and get a useless psych degree. Why? I can't say for certain, but four years of university indoctrination certainly would provide more fertile soil for future Dem votes than young men and women who worked with their hands, making things (e.g. They Did Build That) than those who have to go to work every day and achieve from ages 18-22.

Nah, the difference in docs is between the academics and those in actual practice. Those at the tip of the lance (like myself) are overwhelmingly conservative. There's some variance in specialties, the women-dominated ones (like OB/GYN) tend to be more liberal as well.

Where I am, south of Nashville, is very pretty, especially when the leaves are turning, or when we get the rare snowfall. Out East, where your people are, is just beautiful. That's the foothills of the Smoky Mountains, and there's so much untouched land out there that if you're in the right spot, you can get up on a mountaintop and see forever, with not a speck of development. I love development and applaud it, but it's still very neat to look across miles of mountain and forest knowing that this is what it looked like for the past several hundred years.

Once I get off the interstate, if the weather is right, the windows do come down and the radio gets cranked. That's one plus to me driving home at night now - the air is cool and sweet, and I get to drive this twisty road at high speed with the tunes up loud. No matter how rough the day was, by the time I get down the other side and pop my ears (it's approx. 1000 feet up, then another 1000 down to get to my little suburb), I feel pretty damned good. Add that commute to Williamson County, TN being the DailyCaller.com's "most conservative county in America" and stupid-low property taxes and it should be clear why I love this place so much. The bright lights and big party of Nashville are close, but far enough away for some good "out of the city" stuff.

That is what pisses me off about the media. Romney passes by a house flying the Confederate flag and they report the flag as though Romney was up waving it.
Ben Jones, Cooter from Dukes of Hazzard, runs and is elected as a Democrat to Congress while using the "General Lee" in his campaign material, and he is just "reaching out to blue collar voters". I would bet that if Mooch wore a Confederate flag bikini to Panama Beach, the media would talk about how fashionable it was and outreach to the Florida cracker population.

That's not much like moving from the one state that voted for Mondale to MA, but it's a reminder that you don't have to endure that punishment. We have hockey here, and a semi-professional football team as well, along with better weather. No baseball, but the way Tito's tenure has gone, maybe you can go without. Anywhere but the mountains out east, I wouldn't pay an enemy to visit from mid-June to late August - it would be unsporting. I've had the rubber seals around my windshield and doors on the last truck melt. It's HOT and HUMID when it's bad, but the rest of the year is a breeze. In the mountains, it's way different. They have cool nights, even in summer (camped out there this past August, 68 both nights), but the winters are seriously nasty.

Never mind that when he took office he was handed the worst economy every and a disaster of an employment situation. Now that we are back where we started things are looking great!

No skin off my back. My great grandmother, way back when I lived in rural IL, made sure that I rooted for the Chicago teams exclusively. She watched the Cubs every day on WGN with my 4 year old self, never missed a Bears game with my 4 year old self, and didn't care about basketball or hockey. Hence I don't care about the former, and am bi-supportive of the Blackhawks and Predators. The rest of my Irish-Catholic family made sure that before I could brush my own teeth, Notre Dame football was wired in. It all worked, and my loyalties are unshakeable at this point.

Ugliest drive you can take? The NJ Turnpike from Fort Lee to Edison. The part near Newark Airport is what you saw on the opening credits on The Sopranos, looks like from the Route 3 interchange to the 278 exit in Elizabeth

So much of what we see can't be believed, so many "businesses" have economic models based on stupidity or fraud, so many of our virtues are disparaged and our vices celebrated....."public service" is akin to "date rape", and institutions are more interested in feeding themselves than in the noble purposes for which they were chartered.
.....and I'd just like to knock off the bullshit for a while. We're buried in PC and procedures and forms and bureaucrats and fraudsters. What happened to Good and Evil? What happened to the rule of law?
When the Federal Reserve buys paper not "backed by the full faith and credit of the United States", why isn't it gone in milliseconds? That's what the law says, they must. When Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac are rolled into the US Treasury, why isn't someone gone? For years, they had "not backed by Treasury" on every financial report.....then *poof* they're rolled in.....but not consolidated.
We're living in a time of shadows and bluffs, and I'd just like to be able to get to work on something real.

It is not that Barack Obama does not wish to continue as our President. He is merely troubled from bearing the sins of our hate-filled racist nation upon his broad, bronze shoulders. He is the multiracial Messiah, yet like those "international bankers" in the New Testament did to Jesus, America would rather destroy Him than accept Him.
Even Jesus had his moments of doubt and pain. Therefore it falls to every loyal American to ask themselves "What have I done today to help my President?" Accept Barack into your hearts.
And keep that Ewok from having sex with garbage cans.

And PJ O'Rourke. You'd be in good company. Hell, if there was a place where the official motto was "Leave me the fuck alone unless we're pals", I'd move there regardless of climate. Anyplace where you choose to interact with others without bearing the burden of their governmental preferences has to be approaching paradise at some level. Unfortunately for NH and AK, there's the awful weather.

And on our little sojourn to the south, I pick up a few brews, including "Mermaid's Red" from the Coronado Brewing Company.....sounds innocuous, right? Au contraire -- has more hops than either of the two microbrew IPAs I also picked up on the trip. As the label notes: "satisfying to the tail's end."
So there are some righteous brewers out in San Diego....but the odd thing is, you can't grow hops for crap until you're about 300 miles north.

What really pisses me off is the snail-mail. I send $20 to someone who I want to pound their opponent, and they send me 40 mailed requests for more money with 42 cents postage and a 3-cent inkjetted letter on 5-cent per page letterhead......No, I didn't intend to buy spam, thank you very much. Why not spend my money on something smart, like stomping your slimebag opponent into the dust, or putting out an ad to convince someone in your district to vote for you?
