— DrewM Rest In Peace.
A U.S. official says retired Gen. H. Norman Schwarzkopf, who commanded the U.S.-led international coalition that drove Saddam Hussein's forces out of Kuwait in 1991, has died. He was 78.The official tells The Associated Press that Schwarzkopf died Thursday in Tampa, Fla. The official wasn't authorized to release the information publicly and spoke on condition of anonymity.
President George H.W. Bush, who was President during the first Gulf War (and is in ICU himself at the moment), well, his office any way, released a statement.
"Barbara and I mourn the loss of a true American patriot and one of the great military leaders of his generation. A distinguished member of that Long Gray Line hailing from West Point, General Norm Schwarzkopf, to me, epitomized the 'duty, service, country' creed that has defended our freedom and seen this great Nation through our most trying international crises. More than that, he was a good and decent man -- and a dear friend. Barbara and I send our condolences to his wife Brenda and his wonderful family."
Whenever I think of General Schwarzkopf I think of this video.

From President George H. W. Bush, from his hospital bed, while we hear nothing from Obama:

Don't mean to denigrate a threat with off topic commentary.
But is anyone shocked about that SAndy Hook fact, i.e., that 4 handguns were used and NO "ASSAULT" weapons???
Is that right? Has that been confirmed outside of the NBC report?

Actually I am reminded of a perfect example of Teutonic humor. The modern self propelled torpedo was conceived by an Austrian naval officer but perfected and patented by a British engineer named Robert Whitehead. The German navy produced their "own" design and named it Schwartzkopf.
Geddit? Huh, geddit? And some people have the crust to claim Germans have no sense of humor.

There was a great columnist named George Frazier that worked at the Boston Globe, Herald, Esquire and Down Beat among other places from the 40's to the 70's who was famous for his distinctive expressions, enough to make Nixon's enemy list.
One of his favorite words was Duende which he bestowed rarely and only on the most worthy of people, and his definition of it was like Justice Stewart's famous line: hard to define but "I know it when I see it".
Stormin' Norman had Duende.
RIP General.

Schwarzkopf told his men that they might not like some of his strict rules, but it was for their own good. He told them “When you get on that plane to go home, if the last thing you think about me is ‘I hate that son of a bitch’, then that is fine because you’re going home alive.” - Vietnam.
I do so hope that Powell & Barky keep their yaps shut. I know, I won't hold my breath.
If anything has made me feel any kind of better today it is by watching the video of Ted Nugent nuking Piers Morgan on his show. Truly great to watch.

I don't understand this though. Multiple authorities stated that 4 handguns were BROUGHT INTO the school. And the rifle was in the car.
That is a pretty easy fucking determination to make, no? Where are the guns when it's all over. What kind are they. Why do we need a medical examiner to tell us they were all shot by the rifle? How could multiple people "official sources" get this wrong??

His reasons were that we didn't have a mandate or coalition to go INTO Iraq, the US didn't have the stomach for the killing necessary to do it, and that we would be responsible for the country if we invaded.
I also think theSoviet Union beingon Iraq's northern border had an influence, as well.

If you listen to the coroners Press conference, he is Asked if the AR15 was found in the trunk of the car, and says no... but that reporter HAD heard that report somewhere...
And.... trying to carry a Long arm, plus multiple pistols? not easy unless you have a combat harness rig'd for that AND is your size... but if you go to that trouble, just about everyone I know would prefer either matching sidearms... or two totaly different weapons...
Lots of weirdness.... and even at this time I don't think Reporters are interested in trying to get the story straight.... they just want to push the meme...

DrewM and Romeo:
Well, my point was a very simple one. It should be pretty damn easy to figure out what weapons were fired and what weapons were not.
So how do "multiple" official sources get this wrong. How is that possible?
And Romeo, did he say where the AR 15 was found, or was it just not found in the trunk?? They should know within 30 minutes what weapons the shooter brought into the school. Why would this be convoluted at all.
It's pretty easy to stuff four handguns in cargo pants with plenty of pockets.

Guns on the ground and on the shooter's person are the only guns used in the school. What were those guns?
You can just feel the gun to know whether it was used or not.

It's sad that we must look upon the defeat of an enemy in an unapolagetic way as History. We once were better than that.
I weep for our country.

We had a "moment of silence"(at the Life Coach's urging) to "summon" the spirit of my dead 90 y-o f-i-l.
OK, the Scotch is kicking in, but if/when we hit Ctrl-Alt-Del on this republic we need to bring back hanging as a means of execution (none of that pussified lethal injection; hell, most mornings I'd pop for that myself), and anyone billing himself as a "Life Coach" would go to the head of the queue for the gallows. Right after the hard-core Reds.

Fred Franks commanded V Corp, the prominent flanking and envelopment manuever that attacked the Iraqis from the west. V Corp was three Combat Divisions, plus an Air Cav regiment and the British Armored Division (on the right, southern flank).
Barry McCafferey commanded VII Corp, further north (in Iraq) on Franks' left flank. McCafferey's VII Corp actually did more fighting AFTER the "100 hours" as Iraqi army units resisted. They secured Safewan, where the armistice was agreed to. I have a friend who was a major in VII Corp who was reconoitering Safewan after the fighting but before the armistice.
McCafferey and Franks were both looking to John Yeosock (commander, 3rd Army Group V and VII Corp) and Yeosock was looking to Schwartzkopf for direction after the primary flanking and envelopment was accomplished. The Republican Guard was still pretty much intact and had withdrawn back into Iraq out of Kuwait. One division of the Republican Guard had been pretty decimated, and parts of two others had taken heavy losses, but still had combat capacity (they fought with McCafferey a few days later and got their clocks cleaned again).
Powell persuaded GHWB that the goals of the UN mandate had been accomplished, and that the 100 hour war was finished. Thus no pursuit of the Republican Guard into Iraq.
Someday an unbiased history of these years, from the Iran-Iraq war up until the SOFA and end of major combat roles for the US in Iraq, will be written. I don't think that Colin Powell will come out of this looking very good.
Godspeed Norman Schwarzkopf.

Survived the ATL lib family Christmas. Wine kept me from killing anyone.
So there was that. Had to drive us back yesterday (husband is moving his company into new, larger, office and warehouse space....for less money than his previous lease) and drove through high winds in the SUV. My hands and shoulders still hurt from gripping the steering wheel while he dealt with bidness on his iPhone.

Agreed. Also we have a national election every 4 years. You'd think that the twats in charge of said elections could manage to make sure our troops overseas could vote and in a timely fashion. They have years to get it right. Oh I crack myself up!

Diversity is weakness. Unity is strength.
The whole modern idea of "diversity" is meant to undermine competence. That some politically correct general has embraced it is yet further proof of our decline. We used to promote those who were the best at what they did, regardless of their origins. We were already diverse, as far as our national makeup. There is nothing the Left won't corrupt or skew to reach their goal of the dilution of American values, and our pride of nationality.
The General, I hope, would've wanted the very best of his troops, regardless of their ethnicity.

Hugh Shelton on Wesley Clark and would he support his run for President:
“I’ve known Wes for a long time. I will tell you the reason he came out of Europe early [i.e., was forced to step down as commander of U.S. forces in Europe] had to do with integrity and character issues, things that are very near and dear to my heart. I’m not going to say whether I’m a Republican or a Democrat. I’ll just say Wes won’t get my vote.”

Mister subtle I'm not. I would have told her to perform an anatomically impossible feat with that turkey and, then, walked out of "Hipster Paradise" never to return. Screw that. I have no patience for assholes like that anymore. None. At the very least, I would have asked for the turkey to be removed from the bill and walked over to the canned goods and placed it there.

Rommel was never considered (by the Germans) to be the greatest German armor general.
The British desert generals thought he was the best anti-tank strategist, though. He used his tanks as bait, lured them into a box, and used 88mm carriage-mounted guns as anti-tank weapons.
