Good God...Mass Shooting At A Connecticut ELEMENTARY School
— DrewM

A shooting at a Connecticut elementary school this morning prompted the town of Newtown to lock down all of its schools and drew SWAT teams to the school, authorities said today.
A gunman has been killed and at least one other person has been shot, authorities told ABC News.
The shooting occurred at the Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, about 12 miles east of Danbury.
State Police received the first 911 call at 9:41a.m. and immediately began sending emergency units from the western part of the state.
A photo from the scene shows a line of distressed children being led out of the school.

If you're wondering if this will be politicized. Yeah.

I am confused - schools are all gun free zones. How did this weapon make it through the magical CFZ forcefield?

CT firearms laws are already on the strict side nationally, though better than neighbors NY, NJ and Mass. I imagine the uniformly Dem leadership of the state will be seizing on this immediately.

At least one person is dead after a shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School on Dickinson Drive.

Police said there are multiple shooting victims, and some of them are children. They were still searching the school at 11 a.m., and police dogs had been brought in.

Heard via contacts from a teacher at that school who was holed up in a closet with terrified kids while the shooting was happening. Word is that the principal got shot and may be dead.

Horrific.

This is largely from memory and I certainly could be wrong, but despite working for the largely left-wing CBC, my understanding is that Barbara Frum was actually pretty good about not being a kneejerk liberal douchebag like Captain Butterball. Apparently the daughter Linda (now a Conservative Senator appointed by Harper), said that her mother was initially mostly centrist but grew more conservative as she got older.

I think it's less about withholding info and more about not having all the information yet. We're so used to having information immediately at our fingertips that we forget that it takes a long time to process a crime scene. At my kids' elementary school, after the Beslan massacre in 2004 they redeveloped the lobby so that it is impossible to get into the main hallway without going through the front office which has several adults in it, and the principal has a gun in a locked case. They are now redoing the high school with the same setup. All exterior doors are locked from the outside and alarmed. It would pretty much take some bombs to get into these schools.

Been looking at newspaper coverage of the Oregon shooting. Although the Oregonian is not considered a journalistic enterprise by the locals I have come in contact with, they may be doing some journalism in this story. According to its report, I conclude that the responsibility for this lands on the backs of the stupid adults in his life. The kid never had a dad [looks like a one and done by the mom], mom dies when he's two, aunt raises him and also gets divorced, aunt is kid's guardian, article refers to some judgment for breach of fiduciary responsibility, kid had gotten mom's bequest from his grandma of 18k, money is all gone before kid sees it, he recently finds out, both auntie and kid really enjoy smokin weed, everyone says the kid was a great guy, kid stole the gun. Of course, the paper's letters to the editor are filled with gun grabbers and Mobys. BTW, murder remains a crime in Oregon so it is quite clear that more gun laws would have prevented this bullshit.
