— DrewM I've been wondering how the MBM would spin thee rise gas prices to protect Obama and if it's anything like this piece from Daniel Gross, "economics editor at Yahoo! Finance", it's going to be a long, long campaign.
..the U.S. economy is better situated to handle higher gas prices than it was last year, four years ago, or ten years ago. The upshot: higher gas prices are going to hurt, and will be painful for many. But they won't torpedo the economy. For a host of reasons, the world's largest consumer of gasoline is much less likely to be the victim of high gas prices than it was a few years ago. Here's why.
First, compared with 2007 and 2008, corporate and personal balance sheets are in much better shape, and hence better able to absorb rising costs.
...
... the U.S. is a bigger producer of oil than it was a few years ago. Oil consumption is in many ways a zero-sum game: more money spent by consumers on gasoline means more money going into the pockets of oil producers — most of them overseas.
...
...Americans simply drive less, and use less gas, than they used to. Part of that can be ascribed to the fact that employment remains far below the 2007 peak. But on the aggregate, the U.S. economy has figured out how to move more good and people around while driving fewer miles and using less gas.
...
...more people have alternatives to driving than did four years ago. When gas prices rise, ridership of mass transit usually rises in its traditional strongholds like New York, Washington, and Boston. But in the last several years, light rail systems have opened and expanded in many states. And that means more people around the country have alternatives to driving.
...
This is not to say that rising gas prices won't pinch the budgets of many Americans, or that they won't filter into the economy via higher prices for services and fuel surcharges. They will. But given the changing shape of the U.S. economy over the last several years, the damage is likely to be less severe.
I'm not going to Fisk all of this pile of nonsense and Obama talking points because well, there are only so many hours in the day. But think about this:
Who really thinks that personal balance sheets are better off today than they were in 07 and 08?
Higher production...ok, some of us even want more domestic oil production. In fact if some of us ("us" being "not Democrats") had our way 10 years ago, lots more production would be coming online right about...now (according the schedule the liberals gave us ten years ago).
If people could afford it, either because they had more money or gas was cheaper they'd drive more, they always do in good times.
More mass transit? Hey congratulations to those folks in deep blue Democratic cities who won't be hit by higher gas prices but you yokels out in the country? Well good luck with that!
Light rail? Yeah, that's pretty much right out of the Obama State of the Union speech.
So in short, thanks to the miracles that have happened in "the last several years", which just happened to be the same time as Obama has been in office, higher gas prices aren't a problem. Anyone who says otherwise must just be a partisan hack or a racist.
Related enough: Obama gave an energy speech in New Hampshire today (which just happens to be a state he needs in November but it was an official trip so we get to pay for it). He said drilling wasn't the answer because of increasing demand from places like China.
What kind of idiot do you have to be to think that increasing supply isn't a legitimate response to an increase in demand?

A Priest was being honored at his retirement dinner after 25 years in the parish.
A leading local politician, and also a member of the congregation, was chosen to make the presentation and to give a little speech at the dinner.
However, he was delayed, so the Priest decided to say his own few words while they waited.
"I got my first impression of the parish from the first confession I heard here. I thought I had been assigned to a terrible place. The very first person who entered my confessional told me he had stolen a television set, and when questioned by the police, was able to lie his way out of it. He had stolen money from his parents, embezzled from his employer, had an affair with his boss's wife, taken illegal drugs, and gave VD to his sister. I was appalled. But as the days went on I learned that my people were not all like that, and I had, indeed, come to a fine parish full of good and loving people.'
Just as the Priest finished his talk, the politician arrived full of apologies for being late. He immediately began to make the presentation and gave his talk:
"I'll never forget the first day our parish Priest arrived," said the politician. "In fact, I had the honor of being the first person to go to him for confession."
Moral : Never, Never, Never Be Late!
There you have it!!!

The Obama Regime cannot escape the following facts regarding skyrocketing gas prices:
1. In September 2008, Obama’s “Nobel-prize winning physicist” of an Energy Secretary, Steven Chu, told the Wall Street Journal: “Somehow we have to figure out how to boost the price of gasoline to the levels in Europe.”
2. In 2008, then-candidate Obama admitted that, like his future Energy Secretary Mr. Chu, he believed that high gas prices would be a good thing because they would force Americans to ween themselves off of oil, but that he would have “preferred a gradual adjustment.”
3. On January 19, 2009, the day before Barack Obama was sworn in as President of the United States, gas prices were $1.84 a gallon. As of February 20, 2012 a gallon of gas cost $3.59.
4. As Senator Kay Bailey Hutchinson points out, “Offshore drilling permits are being issued at less than half the rate of the previous administration. The average number of leases issued on public lands is less than half than during President Clinton’s term.”
5. In 2008, Barack Obama seemed perfectly comfortable with soaring energy prices if they meant curbing green house gas emissions. As Mr. Obama confessed: “Under my plan of a cap and trade system, electricity rates would necessarily skyrocket.”
6. Obama’s own 2008 campaign rallies actually cheered higher gas prices because they would “force us to think about changing the culture to create more emphasis on mass transportation.” Following the sustained applause, then candidate-Obama proceeded to laud Europe (not unlike his future Energy Secretary Steven Chu) for its rail system.
7. Try as he might, President Obama’s campaign will try to distance themselves from the fact that a central pillar of Mr. Obama’s 2008 campaign was a pledge to reduce the “pain at the pump” caused by high gas prices. However, the record reveals the extent to which Obama promised that, if elected, he would bring down the cost of gas for “everyday Americans.”
Missing no opportunity to invoke class warfare, Obama said: “For the well-off in this country, high gas prices are mostly an annoyance. But to most Americans, they are a huge problem, bordering on a crisis. Here in Indiana, gas costs $3.60 a gallon.”

Just pray tell where are those vaunted light rail systems? What did the Bamster have to do with the current increase in oil production. Not a damned thing--that's what.
Of course we don't use as much gas these days. All the construction workers building houses that were doing just ducky from say 1998 to 2008 are sitting on their asses at home with no jobs to drive to. Some of us retirees take a big gulp when looking at the cost with $4 plus gas of driving to our former favorite recreation spots. Kiss that camping and fishing trip in the Sierra Mountains goodbye. Maybe you can go down and camp out in the local 7-11 parking lot. You say you wanted to spend a week on the shore in San Luis Obispo County? Not so tough with $2 gas (which is what we had when Obozo came into office) but maybe out of reach with $4 or even $5 a gallon gas in California this summer.

As part of President Obama's all-out, all-of-the-above approach to developing every domestic energy resource, Energy Secretary Steven Chu today announced the start of an ambitious initiative to capture the potential of wind energy off American coasts. As part of a planned six-year $180 million initiative, an initial $20 million will be available this year as the first step in supporting up to four innovative offshore wind energy installations across the United States. These offshore wind projects will accelerate the deployment of breakthrough wind power technologies that will help diversify our nation's energy portfolio, promote economic development, and launch a new industry here in America.

Energy is the lifeblood of all the resource acquisition and manufacturing that we do. From the two stroke fuel in the lumberjack's chainsaw, to the diesel in every piece of big equipment and trucks, to the electricity that powers all of our manufacturing machines. The only thing that can happen if any form of energy, especially liquid fuel, becomes more expensive. We are on a path of economic devancement. Where we regress from a highly advanced machine driven economy back to the sweat off our brow, strength in our back economy, just to get fed.
This is a soft core version of the Pol Pot philosophy. Apparently that's what progressive means. Moving society back to a primitive state.

"What are you talking about," he replied. "I'm 72 years old so I am in your age group and I have no arms and no legs, so there is no way I could beat you."
"What about the amazing lover part?" she asked.
"How do you thing I rung the doorbell?" he answered.

(a) record high gas prices, and (b) their own previous damning statements about how high gas prices are a good thing, what are certain boneheaded conservatives choosing to make the subject of daily debate?
Contraception and the question of whether a twentysomething female law student is a "slut" or not.
That's the burning issue which Limbaugh decided to bring up. Using the word "slut" specifically.
What a great way to win over independent voters. What a key matter for the decline-to-state bloc. Completely awesome. A general election winner for sure.
When I saw The Won issue his birth control mandate, and a bunch of people on the right began to crow about how it was a major tactical blunder for him, I figured instead that it was a deliberately calculated Axelrodian strategic ploy.
A play that would simultaneously ignite a chunk of the liberal base, plus, get the social cons feuding with the libertarian cons into the bargain.
Looks like a bunch of people on the right blundered squarely into that trap.
Can we quit talking about this birth control crap and go back to talking ABOUT THE FREAKING PRICE OF GAS, PLEASE?

My only problem with that- given that Romney did win the votes- is that changing the rules after the fact smacks of favoritism. Do they really expect us to believe they would have done the same thing if Santorum had "won" the delegates? You can't tell me (with a straight face) that they never considered the possibility of a close race in the primary- they knew that a 15/15 split was a possible outcome.

...more people have alternatives to driving than did four years ago.
When gas prices rise, ridership of mass transit usually rises in its
traditional strongholds like New York, Washington, and Boston. But in
the last several years, light rail systems have opened and expanded in
many states. And that means more people around the country have
alternatives to driving.
Ohhhh. Pleeeeeassse. Do you live in one of these places? Do you grasp that people always take mass transit if it goes to where they are going and don't if it doesn't. Most people in these areas have to DRIVE to the mass transit parking lots or bus stops and then pay. Do you grasp how expensive it is to take metro, metro bus, the trains? It's far cheaper to drive if gas is under $4.50 after you've paid for the fare, parking and the fucking 2 EXTRA HOURS IT TAKES. Add the two extra hours to your day care bill as well. This "take mass transit" is lefty horseshit. Make it cheaper (not driving more expensive) and not so fucking time consuming and FREE PEOPLE WILL CHOOSE IT you statist.

I was listening to MI primary results as they came in, the announcer said that the winner of the popular vote would get two extra delegates (in addition to the allocation according to who won the district). This was before most of the precincts had reported, so it doesn't sound like a change of rules to benefit Romney. If Santorum had won the popular vote, the two bonus delegates would have gone to him.

Sure. The same principle that powers the sun. But you have to realize that the sun is a compression of a field of hydrogen that probably stretched a light year or more in size at one point before the forces of gravity compressed it into a critical mass and it self ignited. Where do we get all that hydrogen? Water? How do we separate the hydrogen from the oxygen without a huge source of energy?
Pie in the sky.
First off the sun is hot fusion not cold fusion.
Two we've started fusion several times on Earth. Ask bikini.

A case of mass transit blue balls is just not selling me on riding a bus, so I can sit next to a tuna boat worker that smells like piss.

Met a 45 year old Asian women a few months ago. She was stunningly beautiful. BUT, she had also lived most of her life in the US, so maybe "location, location, location" has more than one meaning.

We need the time machine from Napoleon Dynamite.
I gotta say one thing about the "Good Old Days" of the Clinton Era that the liberals harken back to--gas was 1.39.

Any foreign import is going to be corrupted by radical American feminnaziism in a year.
I've seen it happen since my buds were getting ass raped by their Phiillipino wives in the 80s. Just find a nice American girl. I really is cheaper.
Unless you are willing to time share the slut with the Russian mafia. If you can do that, you might find it lucrative.

Let me guess, you've ride the MTA buses in Los Angeles ..
When my car was out of action for a month 5 years ago, I took the MTA bus a whole 4 miles on a single route from downtown Glendale to my home in LA. It's a 10 minute drive at rush hour, but if I got home in 30 minutes taking the bus it was quick. If you have to change routes you're talking another 20 minutes at least waiting for the next bus to show up.
Let's not even get into cleanliness and comfort issues
In Denver, the bus system acronym is RTD, or as the locals in the Denver area call it: "Reason To Drive"
