GOP Convention Will Go On, Despite Tropical Storm Isaac
— Ace

CDR-M sent that picture. Obviously I wouldn't have bothered with this story -- which basically says "Monday will come, just as you previously thought it would, until a Democratic mayor suggested for 24 hours it might not" -- if I didn't have that picture.

Republican officials say they are moving forward with plans to hold the Republican National Convention on Monday as scheduled, despite an approaching tropical storm.

1 it's not even going to hit florida. they've been moving the track further and further to the west for 2 days now.

"If you have to make decisions based upon what Isaac will do, I recommend that you wait until Friday morning to make a decision, as the forecasts then should be of significantly higher accuracy. Until Isaac consolidates, the lack of a well-defined center will make forecasts of the storm's behavior less accurate than usual."

I live in Georgia and a Wisconsin group is protesting this.  The players aren't forced to attend, it's just an optional free meal.  If they weren't such assholes I would almost feel bad for these people that have nothing better to do with their lives then to actively look for something to be offended by.

365 Lactated Ringer's solution is a solution that is isotonic with blood and intended for intravenous administration. It may also be given subcutaneously. Lactated Ringer's solution is grouped with intravenous fluids known as "crystalloids" – which include saline and dextrose solutions (compared to the "colloids" which contain larger molecules such as starch or gelatine). Lactated Ringer's solution is abbreviated as "LR", "RL" or "LRS". It is also known as Ringer's lactate solution (although Ringer's solution technically refers only to the saline component, without lactate). It is very similar, though not identical to, Hartmann's solution, which is more commonly found in British hospitals and has slightly different ionic concentrations.

436 Also, Monty Python's Flying Circus late at night on PBS. Never got to see it, but I knew every single skit by heart. My classmates kept re-enacting them the next day.

I liked Cheryl Ladd better too, but ohhhhhh that poster.

And Kate Jackson was just there to add balance.

Posted by: Ghost of Lee Atwater at August 23, 2012 06:54 PM (xCNVC)

Yeah, "balance." Or to target the lesbian demographic. Farrah, Cheryl Ladd, Jaclyn Smith, and Tanya Roberts would wear a two-piece bikini and there's Kate Jackson, wearing a flannel shirt and some slacks.

438 Vic, in the same era as "Untouchables" was "Gun Smoke".  It was probably the first western to show cowboys as dirty and sweaty.  And frontier docs as drunks and the implications (although never stated or hinted at) of "Kitty".

To me, Paladin was the first "Most interesting man in the world."  Although they didn't have to state it.

That is a lot of TV, for a time when everyone had only three channels, four with public broadcasting.

Now I don't bother until a seris is a couple of years old then watch it on net flicks or Hulu.

440 Does anybody remember "My Mother, the Car?" Network execs must have had a hell of a 5 martini lunch going on when they approved a show about a guy's mother being reincarnated as a Model T.

444 We used to play "Medical Center" in the '60's. Someone (normally me) would fall over on the sidewalk yelling "I'm having a heart attack!" then my friends the ambulance crew would wheel me down the block in a chaise lounge while making siren noises and Dr. Joe Gannon (aka, Buddy the doctor's kid) would operate on me by feeding me jelly beans. Actually, maybe we were foreshadowing Obamacare. I got tired of that game because I never got to be the doctor. Buddy had one of his dad's old lab coats and a real stethoscope so he hogged the role.

447 Vic, in the same era as "Untouchables" was "Gun Smoke". Just before my time. The one I remember enjoying was "High Chaparral" which was probably some sort of knock-off of Gunsmoke or Bonanza.

Yeah, I loved the early Gunsmoke show, but over the years they PC'd it to death.  by the time it went off the air it wasn't worth a shit.

459 One last one that we used to like, Sky King.  I actually got to meet Kirby Grant from that show down in Daytona Beach in the 70s.

I stop because time to shut it down for the night.  hell, the 50s were the golden age of TV.  We had 10% of the shows they have now and they were all 100 times better than the best thing they have now.

What we have now is all shit.

Anyway goodnight Morons.

485 Surely this has been said already, but this picture is why I love this website.  Where else can you get something like this?

When I was in grad school, I wrote a paper about the cruise industry, and in my research I found The Love Boat was credited with the takeoff of the cruising industry as we know it today.

No mention of whether Julie the cruise director's coke habit was responsible for that phenomenon, but I don't think we can rule that out.

Get real, brotha. "Shaft" may be a song for that Isaac, but for this Isaac, it's one of my finest physical features. Just ask all the ladies who started the evening at my bar crying in a matrini, and ended the evening digging their fingers into my back and afro while screaming in ecstasy.
