GOP To Postpone Start Of Convention
— DrewM

Just announced that they will conviene the convention as planned Monday and then immediately recess until Tuesday.

Lots of scrambling going on now to rearrange speakers I'd guess.

One upside, Mike Huckabee was scheduled to speak Monday night. Now he can go hang out in Missouri with Todd Akin and the rest of us can forget he exists.

Also solves another problem, ABC, NBC and CBS weren't going to cover night one anyway.

That decision was causing big problems for the Romney campaign because because Ann Romney was scheduled to be the featured speaker that night. Since she's regarded as one of his best surrogates and a key to humanizing him they obviously want her to get as much exposure as possible. (Update: They had already moved Ann Romney's speech)

Of course, there are no such restrictions on the DNC convention. Those 3 networks will be there every night to cover all the brave Democrats will to be seen supporting soon to be ex-President Barack Obama.

Now the networks may say they are covering the same amount of nights at each convention and that's technically true. The thing is, the Democrats were supposed to have a traditional four night convention but back in January they announced something new and super exciting!

And in a twist, the party will forgo the convention's traditional Monday opening and instead entertain tens of thousands that day at Charlotte Motor Speedway.

Except a few months later it turns out they couldn't raise the money, so they basically scrapped that plan.

So because the Democrats failed to successfully organize their convention, ABC, CBS and NBC now have an out to screw the GOP out of a night of coverage.

Bias? What bias?

" This is a bad news for Team Mitt because Ann Romney is scheduled to be the featured speaker that night and since she's regarded as one of his best surrogates and a key to humanizing him Obviously they want her to get as much exposure as possible."

Ann was changed to Tuesday night yesterday.

First..if you think from a PR perspective it is very smart.  It shows the GOP cares more for safety than show!!  Worst thing would have been for Monday as the speeches were taking place the cameras went outside to show the wind and dangerous conditions and then the narrative would have been the GOP put politics over safety.  This way they cancel early show great respect for the day that is suppose to be the worse...Sunday/Monday and then Tuesday it should be nice in Tampa...not so in the Panhandle but then it will change the tone.  I like the move!!

Plus builds momentum for Ann on Tuesday Night...and Huckabrat will not be seen and we will not have to hear him talk about tolerance and respect for people in MO with Akin and all that garbage...AMEN!!  Hey Todd and Mike...I guess Divine Providence saved us from that potential nightmare.  DO NOT RESCHEDULE Huckabrat!!

You know, I remember years ago when Huck was Governor and he had lost all that weight and he was preaching to all the fatties to exercise and eat right.... Somehow his new "condition" pleases me to no end. Almost as much as Oprah who had lost all the weight and she preached on her show and I quote"I'll never be fat again."

198 Box Office Mojo shows that "2016: Obama's America" was the fourth-highest grossing film on Friday, taking in $2.255 million, and trailing only "The Expendables 2," "The Bourne Legacy," and "Paranorman." What's more, its per-theatre gross of $2,067 is almost twice that of "Expendables," and well over double every other film in Friday's top ten.

222 What's more, its per-theatre gross of $2,067 is almost twice that of "Expendables," Which kind of proves 2016's point. There's no way that, on a Friday summer night in a healthy country, a low-budget documentary should pull in anything anywhere near an Expendables or Bourne movie. It was shockingly dead at my movie theater. The place used to be 'a scene', a place where kids hung out and parents picked them up. Last night? Movies would let out and only thirty people would come out. Anyways, hoping Hurricane Obama peters out.

You ask us about 'classy'?  Lol.  And what kind of drinks are you looking for? Aperatif? Cocktails? Desserts?

Whatever you get, the key to class is appropriate glassware.  I end up drinking everything out of free-sample glasses from beer tastings/tours and Mason jars, but they're probably not appropriate for, say, prosecco or dessert liqueur.

299 buzzion: "Hahahaha. You actually think that the media would cancel a night of coverage for the DNC convention if the RNC somehow had to drop a night? " I don't think so. I know so. There's a long history of equal coverage. This is one reason why UVa just rejected Obama coming there. They would have had to cancel 200 classes and cover security (because Obongo is too cheap to pay for his own). And they cited that they would have to do exactly the same if Romney asked to come and they couldn't accept one and turn down the other.

I guess he was busy stealing other things in that pre-Katrina looting of the Wal-Mart.  Funny, the city didn't seem to know what was coming but the local wildlife had started looting on TV even before the storm hit.  I loved the two cops picking stuff out, also.  That was classic.

325 Speaking of Huck, what's his calculation regarding full tilt support of Akin?  Does he not realize there will be a backlash against him (Huck) too, or does he know but supports Akin on principle?

It's hard to believe Huck isn't aware of the damage Akin is doing to  Romney and risking the senate majority, not to mention the huge club it gives the Dems.  And coming so soon after Huck came up with the Chick-Fil-A day of support, where he gained a lot of goodwill and publicity.

I'm trying to understand why he's willing to throw away that goodwill, and take on the blowback from supporting Akin.  Akin is very self serving and/or doesn't grasp the damage he's doing.  It's hard to think Huckabee doesn't understand the damage to the GOP and to himself.

328 Fuckabee seems to have a problem with Romney specifically or Mormons in general.

Huck's never been a true conservative. Like W., he's so deep into the whole "compassionate conservatism" thing that he's prone to do really stupid stuff--like pardoning a murderer because he'd found Jesus, only for that murderer to go and kill four more people in Washington State a few years later.

--
I understand those things, but my questions is, does Huck not know there's going to be a big backlash against HIM (not just Akin)?  People are going to hold him responsible for encouraging Akin to stay in.  Romney's already taken a huge hit in the MO polls and if Claire keeps her seat Huck will be held accountable, not just Akin.  In my view he's even more to blame.  Akin has a self serving reason to stay in the race, but Huck doesn't.  He may not be ultra conservative but I don't think he wants to intentionally sabotage the GOP.  Or be viewed as doing that.

337 @328 Huck hates Mitt and hates Mormonism. He was just as irrational and hateful last cycle. I think he resents the success that Mitt is having and is aching to poke him in the eye. He just couldnt resist with this Akin controversy even after Mitt and the RNC extended an olive branch, now revoked. His narcissism is paramount and if fed would grow. The worst thing to me is he cloaks it all in the name of Christianity, but y'all are right, he is nothing but an attention whore.
