Someone else may need to correct me, but I believe there's varying ways to measure our debt, and "Public debt" does not include the money borrowed from the SocSec trust fund (and such) that will also need to be payed back.

Even if obama is defeated he will still continue to do damage to the country. Think of how GWB conducted himself after he was out of office, do you think obama will sit on the sidelines and keep his lying mouth shut? I don't think so. He will be on TV and in the news constantly whipping up class and racial divisions. Not good.

A must-see: Harvest of Despair, mentioned in the other thread, on the Ukrainian famine engineered by Stalin.
Two salient points: a Ukrainian describing armed resistance to the Reds by a farmer, and Stalin's repeated raising of taxes (in grain) on kulaks, while offering taxes one-third less to collective farms. Once he'd collectivized all of the farms, he of course raised their taxes too. Sound familiar?

Nice Sock. Sadly it seems this is going to stick too. I was just somewhere very very very rural watching local TV's afternoon news program and they had a "citizen commentator" on who was foaming at the mouth of the dem's inability to "compromise" like the "republicans" (clearly he's unaware of the Tea Party Freshman).
In any case, he ranted on about how the Republicans "Compromised" by nominating someone who most Americans believe is a member of a "religion considered a cult." I went slack jawed.
Bonus points! This program was produced by the local state college (for their Journalism Class.) The argument got only stupider there. I hope they get failed.

I hope this isn't a stupid question, but I really don't know, is it all that different? I always figured it was just they had some local "flavor" to their language, but no more than the difference between being a New Englander here versus someone from, say, Georgia.
Yeah, there's a clear difference, but it's still English... more or less.

--The accommodation of the actual Welsh language in Wales is even more extreme and absurd than that of the French language in Canada. Welsh was effectively extinct for a while, but now all signage has to have Welsh on it. At least in Canada there are some places where people speak French, and only French. I don't think anyone speaks Welsh and only Welsh.

This Week's Sign that the Apocolypse is Upon Us: A college president sends out an email to the whole university, reminding them to wear a sweater.
Dear Members of the Campus Community,
The temperature is dropping, and most of the buildings on campus have transitioned to air conditioning this past week. I was on campus today, and it was quite cool, so I suggest you wear a sweater and/ or jacket tomorrow.
Because our 53 buildings on campus are heated and cooled by a central steam plant, we cannot quickly regulate the temperature as we do in our homes. Once the whole campus is transitioned to air conditioning, the buildings will remain cool until the fall when we return to heat.
Best wishes,
President Carriuolo
Dr. Nancy Carriuolo

The model Waris Dirie, who was mutilated as a child, is a vociferous opponent of the practice.
Calling for a crackdown on FGM, she said: "If a white girl is abused, the police come break down the door. If a black girl is mutilated, nobody takes care of her. This is what I call racism."
So this shit is OUR fault? How about shitty culture you came from, Waris? Does that have a teensy-weensy bit to do with this?

My fear is that he'll sell state secrets for personal profit. Reasons - he is lazy (easy money, no work), MO will want to maintain the lifestyle to which she's become accustomed, and when O's voted out he'll want to exact revenge on American citizens.
Like a lot of people, I'm concerned about the period between the election and when he leaves office. But I'm also worried about whatever stunts he'll pull for an October surprise. I put nothing past him.

Yup. It's $100 or so per year, but you can watch any game you want (including in your viewing area, 90 minutes after the game is over). They also have condensed games, which can be enjoyable for games you don't want to watch in their entirety. I shitcanned cable years ago, and just use HDTV for the Super Bowl and MLB.TV for baseball.

You should be able to get college games pretty easily. Tho they do use an aluminum bat...
The pro game lost me as a fan during the Spring Training -> trade deadline time frame after the strike in 94 (?). Now all I care about is the month of September, and the playoffs/WS. And that's only if there's a team I like involved in those activities. Otherwise, I just can't find the time to care.

A bit of creative licensing. Presidents 1-43 had only the publicly-held portion of the debt held against them, while Teh SCOAMF has both publicly-held and intragovernmental debt (Social Security, Medicare, and the other "Trust Funds") held against him in an inflated number (I've got that likely SCOAMF debt as just a tick over $6.00 trillion)
That's not exactly great news for Teh SCOAMF, however. An apples-to-apples publicly-held debt comparison would be $6.3 trillion from the first 43 Presidents and somewhere around $5.4 trillion from Teh SCOAMF's first term based on over $4.5 trillion of the $5 trillion add to the total public debt being of the publicly-held variety. That would be double what Bush 43 added in 8 years.
BONING SPEED!!!!

Mama Winger, I subscribe to MLB.TV on the web, not cable. I can access any game if/when I feel like it!

I certainly am not whatever it is that all of you label "curious", although I AM curious about all the protocols of this blog commenting business. I am merely a "seasoned citizen" trying to participate in what seems to be a delightful pastime. From now on I will simply read and enjoy and refrain from commenting.

Man walks into a bar in College Station. "I just heard a great Aggie joke."
Barkeep, a big burly dude, scowls. "I'm an Aggie. My two buddies," he points at two big ol' boys down the bar, " are Aggies too. Are you sure you want to tell that joke?"
"Sure. I'll tell it real slow."

I wonder if there's a little strategery going on here. If Romney keeps repeating over and over that he thinks Ozero is nice, then doesn't it make Barky look even worse when he resorts to his typical rude, prickly, divisive rhetoric?

--Think about (not sure if you're male or female) when you hear a woman you like tell you, "You're a nice guy, but . . ." While it's extremely disconcerting, at the same time you can't be enraged then and there, because she did not directly insult you. What Romney is doing rhetorically is probably like that, and in a way probably getting at what you suspect.
P.S. Interesting that this site has "Romney" in the spell-check.
