So, here's where the laughs stop, and the ick factor begins.
Morgen sent this over. Google identifies the language as Indonesian, so maybe Breitbart's source was just acting defensively to the question and not being straight.
It's nasty. Not only are dogs kept, of course, in slaughterhouse conditions, but then are, yes, butchered and all. The heads, for reasons I can't fathom, are kept intact and served cooked.
Anyway, content warning.

He was working in Saudi Arabia and was invited for a Bedouin "experience." He ended up in the desert, watching a little lamb slaughtered, and roasted over a spit.
The "highlight" of his "experience" was being offered the lamb's eyeball to eat. He knew that to refuse would be an insult.
Told us the hardest thing he ever did in his life, was close his eyes and swallow the eyeball....without throwing up.
Said it was like swallowing a hard boiled egg....whole.

It's funny that the Dems want to portray Mitt as "The Other" when it's OBAMA who not only is "The Other" but he actually CAMPAIGNED on that and bragged about how he was a "global citizen" (remember his speech in Berlin). Also, if the moral criterion is about which of these animals is the closest to man in intelligence, that's the dog and the pig.

Turned out later it was just a cooked lime. They all laughed and laughed. Good times.

not gonna call you a name just show a couple points you are missing. this has to do with the topic of dog treatment in general - not just dog eating - which the Obama campaign decided to make an issue with the Romney vacation story.
a second, but somewhat unrelated point - dogs have been shown to read human faces and emotions. Since becoming domesticated dogs have evolved, trying to understand human communication. now, to me, viewing an animal like that as a meal in a situation that is not desperate, shows a special kind of depravity that is probably reflected elsewhere int he culture.
I'm pretty interested in how long, and with how much enthusiasm Obama noshed on dogs at this point.

My wife's friend while living in Luzon was out the door on her way to work one morning. She spotted her doggeh killed in the street and instructed her workers to bury it in the yard while she was away.
After returning from work the staff were sitting around the dirty kitchen outside. The offered her to join them in the meal which she accepted and began to eat. Giggles. Then she asked where they burried the doggeh. Laughter. She was eating it!
Dog can be purchased in Baguio in North Luzon (tribal people). After travelling there dozens of times over 15 years i have never encountered anyone that had eaten dog. But Pinoys eat every friggin' thing else, i tell you!

What I find interesting is that upon eating dog, Obama was not disgusted. He didn't say he was in his book, in fact the fact that he told the world about it shows he had no remorse, and then he went on to eat a reptile and and insect.
When I was about 10, after eating a bite of a sandwich at lunch my mother told me it was cow tongue. I was grossed out, not another bite, lost my appetite. To this day, decades later, I won't eat anything unless I know what it is first (and then, only maybe). So I have a hard time seeing how Bammie didn't react the same way I did.
To me, what is most insightful about his character is that he seems to have had no sense of disgust as a child, or embarrassment about it as an adult. And of course no recognition at all that Americans would be revolted by it.
The guy is not culturally American.

So I have not heard a coherent reason why eating dog would be immoral. And I am talking IMMORAL, not "mean" or some abstract concept like that.
The only things people have said is that they can be domesticated (as can many animals), or that they are smarter than all other animals (which isn't really true, there are many animals as smart).
All I am really pointing out here is that as much as we might make fun of vegetarians for not eating cuddly animals because they are cuddly (and therefore it is immoral), the same argument is typically made for dogs.
Have you ever skinned a deer? Pretty damn gruesome. Lots of people can't do it. But when it is already packaged into steaks, sure is easy to eat and not think twice!
And by the way, yes, I have a dog, and she loves me like crazy and I would never hurt her.

I was a vegetarian of Anson's type for 2 years. In high school advanced biology I had a wonderful teacher who I was very judgmental of because he hunted. How could he kill Bambi? How could he eat the majestic wild turkey?
He told me that I was a hypocrite if I judged him and yet ate meat from the grocery store. He was right, and I didn't eat meat for two years. Then I decided my outrage could be spent elsewhere and went out for ribs.
I wrote that teacher a few years back and apologized for my behavior, and told him how proud I was of the way he provided healthy meat for his family. He was very gracious. I'm now trying to become a good enough shot so that I can hunt. I love squirrel.
I don't judge vegetarians, but I think their lifestyle is untenable anywhere except a prosperous country that can provide them a varied diet from a variety of sources. They could not live within the natural environment.

I agree that Anson isn't a troll. He's just got a thing about vegetarianism which would certainly put him outside of normal conservative practices, but I've never met a conservative who cared if someone else ate meat or not. I'm Jewish, so I'm used to lots of food rules. But meat is what lifted Man in evolution, for the scientifically oriented. And, while I have nothing against vegetarians, any debate about healthy/preferred eating would always come down to that, for me.
Veggies are fine with me so long as I don't start missing out on meat because of them. Now, that hasn't happened, yet, but I'm a smoker and I know how these things go.

I don't see anything at the link. Just as well. I don't see anything morally wrong with eating dogs or cats but I'd never eat a dog; and I've got cultural qualms about eating a cat. One friend is vegetarian; but eats fish because they do not feel pain (or so he says. )
I spent summers growing up on my uncle's farm, fed and cleaned up after pigs and cows and chickens. Most domesticated farm animals in the world today would not be alive if they were not being used for food.
Most folks don't want to think where their food comes from. Maddest I ever made my wife was when I said we were having "cow" for dinner. Good thing we weren't eating veal.

So, I'm planning a two week elk hunting trip where we ride back into a wilderness area, about 40 miles, when suddenly, we encounter eventualities beyond our control, (weather, terrain).
After 3 weeks do we:
A) ride out starving, hoping to find civilization,
B ) kill a horse along the way and eat it*,
C) kill each other and eat as circumstances dictate, or
D) chew on pine needles and tree bark for sustenance along the road to rescue?
*(never mind that we can walk 30 miles in one day, which more or less will get you to close to civilization, within a couple of days short of death)

I guess it doesn't help that I've never owned a dog, and I spent my elementery school years overseas. (My parents are from a dog eating culture, though we've never had it in family meals).

You cannot eat an animal that is a friend and a co-worker.
It's also why Americans are repulsed by eating horsemeat. Horses are companion animals and co-workers, having helped us tame the wilderness.
Cats fall in the same category. They live with us and hunt mice and other varmints.
You cannot eat an animal who is genetically disposed to be a friend.

I guess I'm slightly amused by this, "dog eating is UNAMERICAN" argument. Doesn't bother me at all that someone out there (including BO**) is eating a dog, though I was born in the US and am a rabid conservative in many an area.
-------------------------------------------------------------
It's unAmerican because, at least in America, we understand the taboo that eating dog is a massive, massive breach of trust.
Dogs have been bred for many years to be our companions. And that breeding has been incredibly successful. There's a unique partnership between man and dog that doesn't exist between man and any other animal. People like to project all kinds of feelings and emotions on to their dogs that aren't there.
But the fact is that dogs trust and love people in a way that no other animal does. You may have seen the quote--a dog is the only thing that will love you more than it loves itself. It's true.
You know what the greatest moment in your dog's life is? That moment you get home from work, all your dog's name, and he/she can greet you excitedly at the door. There's a concept called "unconditional love." In people it's dumb. But in dogs, it's a truly beautiful concept. Your dog will not hold a grudge. Your dog will give you another chance. And another and another and another. Because your dog trusts you.
Americans know this. And, as a poster above said, for Obama to be so blase about this breach of trust is really odd.
