Herman Cain Makes His "Unconventional Endorsement:" "The American people"
— Ace

Just a quick blog mention here, scroll down for it.

It's not crazy, really. It's a feel-good bit of pablum. It is the sweet, sweet populist music most of his supporters like hearing.

However, I don't get the point of announcing an "unconventional endorsement" only to make an endorsement which is so unconventional it's not an endorsement.

Why not just say, "I don't plan on endorsing anyone, I'll trust the wisdom of the American people"?

I gotta tell ya, any time you endorse someone, you piss someone off. Obviously other people disagree. But if your primary goal is to speak your peace and add your wisdom to the pile, you have to do that.

On the other hand, if your main goal is brand-promotion and brand-protection... they you refrain from pissing anyone off, don't you?

I see a lot of this.

Any opinion is going to be unpopular in some quarters. But that's the cost of it.

I guess six months back I should have spared myself and my readers a lot of sniping and bad feelings and simply endorsed You.

Or maybe endorsed three people, like NR. Spread the love around. Carefully balance out an endorsement among several key constittuencies, all politic-like.

Now you know WHY Rush Limbaugh does not officially endorse people. Love him or hate him he is a master of the craft, a phenominal entertainer.

Of course, he still biases his coverage toward people he favors and tries to help them, and drops ambiguous hints that can be interpreted in multiple ways.

But in 3 years when, say as one random hypothetical, Mitt Romney does jacksquat about Obamacare, makes a big old fuss and passes a big huge 'reform' bill that is suppose to fix everything we don't like while keeping the stuff we do, but is actually just 3000 pages of arcane sophistry and earmarks for special interests - you're gonna wish you didn't hitch up to that wagon.

Right now, there's a plurality for the Meteors.

112 I wonder if Newt, now that he is a Catholic, understands that while the Good Lord may have forgiven him for his sins, he still has a temporal punishment to pay.  I predict that part of Newt's temporal punishment is this: Newt will never be President of the United States of America.

I am curious.  Was Marianne cheating Newt's first wife?  Justice indeed.

113 Darklord, Heck there have been moments in the last years I would have welcomed Meteors.

114 Well nominating Gingrich is just begging to go down in mini-Goldwater "principled" defeat, regardless of inevitable protesting otherwise if Romney gets nominated and loses.

do we have any consensus yet who we should back, Who will win against Obama, both have issues, who's our best chance?

Probably not, at least not yet.

The cynic in me tells me that Mitt's the Chosen One. The curmudgeon in me likes Newt, especially after the snark in that video in the last post. Neither one is known as a conservative, they both have warts the size of Mt. Washington, but we have to play the hand we dealt to ourselves.

It appears to late for anyone else to jump in now, like West,, Christie or Rubio or any other proven conservative, who've all said they weren't running anyway.

I truly have no idea at this point. Neither Newt or Mitt are my choices, but I'm eventually going to have to back whichever one of them gets the nomination.

Obama Must Go. And along with that, we have to reinforce the House and take the Senate.

120 do we have any consensus yet who we should back, Who will win against Obama, both have issues, who's our best chance?

Newt is toast now that the MSM are jumping on the ex-wife story.  They will twist this in every direction, non-stop until he is synonymous with a puppy rapist.  She will continue giving interviews, making sure the level of detail and interesting factoids grows, just to drive home the point of “I can destroy you”.

Santorum will gain big, just as Perry would have if he didnÂ’t inexplicably drop out of the race.

Mitt will play it as if heÂ’s the inevitable candidate, but there is still a strong anti-Mitt sentiment that will start to calculate what it will take to get to a brokered convention.

So cheer up.  It could actually work out well.

121 I think that a lot of us projected onto both Cain and Perry qualities that just weren't there, mainly because after a couple of glances each seemed to be a conservative variation of the anti-O and good guys.
And neither one was prepared for the Big Stage.

Ummm... nobody payed for this. He owed nothing, delivered little - overdelivered. Fucking bubble-wrapped news junkies, it's not like headlines are zero sum.

If shit like this didn't happen all you'd have are open threads.

As a confirmed Dittohead I agree with the decision not to endorse any one particular candidate.  That would require making a decision and my specialty is whining and complaining about decisions other people make.

I don't have any independent thoughts of my own.  I really don't know what I'm talking about.  I have no serious education and very limited real world experience.  I have a lot of time on my hands.  I get confused quite easily and you could dupe me nearly at will.  Fool me three times, why don't you?

What Rush Limbaugh said.

As a values voter, I assign great value to a man's moral character when deciding whether to support him for a political office.  Unless he's done something I don't like, in which case his character matters nary a squat.

I'm consistent.  This primary cycle I've supported Palin, Bachmann, Cain, Gingrich and Santorum.

Principles over politics.  I'm a conservative, not a Republican.  The Republican Party left me, I didn't leave it.  I repeat dogma over and over until I've convinced myself that I'm with the cool and knowledgeable crowds.  What Rush Limbaugh said.  It makes me feel smarter.  Ultimately I don't like it when people pick on me.  I don't like to be judged.  I will judge you, however, you bet'cha.

I'm intimidated by those who make me feel less masculine.  I look for reasons to cut them down to my size.

Most of all I feel elections don't matter.  There's no difference between a Republican and a Democrat, except that with Republicans we only lose slower.  I haven't voted in a national general election since 1996, when I voted for Gary Bauer in the primary and then in the general the Constitution Party nominee.  The country is on the wrong track, dammit, and if you're not part of the solution then you're part of the problem.

My chief way of participating in politics is to send angry letters to the editors of newspapers that nobody reads and to send sanctimonious letters to advertisers of news programs on cable stations that nobody watches.

Ultimately I only want to feel like my president can be my pastor.

Its too controversial, I think the American people will reject his endorsement. But you can never tell, since its actually the worst run campaign of them all.

Regarding Cain's "unconventional endorsement"

given the many skills in his campaign, he might have planned on endorsing someone who has dropped out of the running since he made that announcement.

It wasn't Perry. Maybe Huntsman ???

Now he has to backtrack, and endorse the people ???

Just crazy enough to be considered.

Marianne is Newt's temporal punishment, a veritable bitch in the manger. I saw the clips, great Harpy make up job. But Newt is the kind of bastard we need right now, I think. He is not under any illusion that the MFM "likes" him. He starts off punching them in the mouth. Good.  And Romney just having a Cayman Island account is just so incredibly stupid. Jesus dude, you've been running for President for six freakin years, you didn't think that wasn't gonna be an issue or it wouldn't be found out? Sure its legal. You could invest in a whorehouse in Nevada, thats legal too.

Lame indeed.

The only thing lamer would be the unflagging support of a Texas retard. Using arguments against Cain that he wasn't a true conservative (whatever that meant) while continue to plug until the very last a candidate spouting "vulture capitalism" leftist populist claptrap.

I get it, butthut's a bitch, but move one. The "at least I didn't support Cain" meme is soo 2011.  Now you got to decide do you want Mitts or Newt?
