Hobby Lobby To Defy ObamaCare's Abortifacient Requirement
— Ace

I have heard from numerous Media bien pensants that if one's intentions are good, and in the public interest, you get to ignore the law.

n attorney for Hobby Lobby Stores said Thursday that the arts and crafts chain plans to defy a federal mandate requiring it to offer employees health coverage that includes access to the morning-after pill, despite risking potential fines of up to $1.3 million per day.

Hobby Lobby and religious book-seller Mardel Inc., which are owned by the same conservative Christian family, are suing to block part of the federal health care law that requires employee health-care plans to provide insurance coverage for the morning-after pill and similar emergency contraception pills.

The companies claim the mandate violates the religious beliefs of their owners. They say the morning-after pill is tantamount to abortion because it can prevent a fertilized egg from becoming implanted in a woman's womb.

1 Hobby Lobby self-insures their employees.

32 No I did not say "It's just a position."
I said, it's the juxtaposition that's so jarring.
Who ta hell even connected segz-ual licentiousness with an arts and craft store?
Frankly, Michael's was a lousy place to pick up chicks. I almost scored a coupla times at JoAnn Fabrics, but dude, fish in a barrel. Like being th only guy at a baby shower. It just happens.

My  buddy, who spare-time apprenticed with an upholsterer so he could make his own race-car seats? And learned to run a HD sewing machine, called a serger? More ass than the afore-mentioned race-car seat. He, like, serged. Zig-zag.

Will someone posit the notion that craft artisans, with all their coat-hanger-bending mad skillsetz, are so good at backroom abortions, that the prevention point is "mute"? Because, the civility rules being what they are, that's gotta happen.

Not exactly the sort of society that an idealistic conservative wishes to belong to, nor perhaps the most prosperous, generous, just, or equal society.

So...for the next four years does an idealistic conservative put principles on hold and play the game to win, with the society we have? Or is it better to retain one's principles, and tilt against a few windmills? Or maybe a bit of both?

71 The strategy to overturn the law is simple: 1. Breed contempt for unpopular laws by willfully breaking them instead of changing them by the mechanisms that exist for doing so. 2. Observe that most don't care/ remain willfully ignorant of the existent mechanisms. 3. For those that do care, cover yourself in "civil rights" moralism and claim that "unjust" laws are not really laws and can be broken with impunity and/or that the existent mechanism is biased/too slow/not enough. 4. Now you can break any law so long as it's "unjust". 5. Own the media. 6. Declare the county's entire legal basis as "unjust". 7. Presto: Your revolution is justified.

86 Went to Hobby Lobby before Christmas and found a bunch of cool stuff that you used to find in genuine hobby stores, like wood model airplanes that you assemble and can set up as RC or fly-by-wire.  Lots of really good stuff to teach kids about science and engineering that you can't find in most stores these days.

Hmmm.... Interesting question though....

Under what authority can a Fine be imposed?  It was supposedly written into the bill that Fines would NOT be Law Enforcment issues...

Heck, the EPA got slapped down by the Supremes for imposing Fines on people without giving them their day in Court...

If its not a Tax, its a Bill of Attainder...

If it IS a Tax... then its a FURTHER Tax for using your Right to Freedom of Religion?

What is the Legal Rationale for the Enforcement Mechanism?  Under what Constitutional Power can Congress Enforce it?

The problem is that the High Court ruled it's a tax, and as a tax it is enforceable by the IRS.  You know: that organization that has more lawyers and federal agents than they have tax processors?   Their methodology is to use their statutory authority of asset seizure and forfeiture to grab everything first, then apply fines and penalties while the case winds its way through the U.S. Tax Court, a special court set up just for hearing tax cases.  No one ever wins before the Tax Court.  Hobby Lobby will be out of business before you know it.

There have been companies on FoxBusiness, saying that that is exactly what they're going to do.

They ran the numbers and figured that it would be cheaper to just pay the fines.

But the thing is...Hobby Lobby is such a nice company, they figure that it is their duty to provide good health coverage for their employees.

So it would be a gutwrenching thing for them to stop that.

We did one at work as a team building exercise. I was accused by some of cheating, since the rules didn't state where the starter mechanism had to align with the car (front, middle or back). So I put the weight to the front and a slot in the middle of the car that engaged with the starting mechanism. That way the car would start ahead of all the others by a couple of inches. The idea worked fine on the slope but when it hit the flat and I hadn't built as much momentum for that section. I didn't win but at least I stirred up some fun.

Yeah, they really are the real deal.

I read an article about them, over a decade ago...about their missionary work.

They go to third world shitholes and help villages come up with a 'craft' to sell...and then often carry those products in their stores, as well as help those villages market their products worldwide.

It's  too bad that the unequal application of a law that  everybody is supposed to obey isn't a disqualifier  for OCare. 275 It's true that one can willfully violate the laws of this country with impunity, so long as one has good intentions and the deliberate lawlessness is in the public interest. However, your "elites" in government and the MSM (but I repeat myself) are the sole arbiters of what constitutes "good intentions" and "in the public interest." Therefore, unless Hobby Lobby is breaking the law for a purpose that is approved of by the Stalin/Mao/Chavez-worshipping progressive loons who run our federal government and its PR arm (known as the MSM), the violations will be prosecuted, and punished, to the full extent allowed by law.

278 Good for them. Fire with fire. Love Hobby Lobby, I did half my Christmas shopping there this year. Great stores, great people. When we were redecorating our living room, we needed a pair of candle holders and couldnÂ’t find exactly what we wanted anywhere. Finally we found exactly what we wanted at HL. But they only had one in stock and we wanted two. The manager told us sheÂ’d have one shipped in from another store and meanwhile hold the one in her office. To be honest, I figured weÂ’d never hear from them again. But only DAYS later the mgr. called to tell us she had both candle holders in her office and we could stop by anytime for them. All that service for an 8 dollar item. Hobby Lobby rules!

280 I do have a hobby business on the side, and the little money I make from it has saved my @ss on multiple occaisions when there has been too much month and not enough money. You know, when you've managed to hang onto your job but there's been no raise in 4 years, and food and fuel and health insurance eat into your paycheck with astonishing speed. When I lived in Athens, GA, HL was 10 minutes down the street and I went at least once a week. They are well organized and always have a sale going on. Generally 50% off supplies. I stocked up like crazy before I mOved to Wyoming I was afraid I'd never see another HL but they have one in Cheyenne and one in Ft. Collins, and I go 'to town' at least once a month and usually stop there, so I'm still supporting them and they are still supporting me, just not as much. O'Barky's illegitimate administration will do their best to squash them. They do too much good for too many people, they worked hard and become very successful, and that's against HIS religion.

Abortion isn't just a political issue; it can also be a religious one. In which case, forcing employers to pay for abortion-causing drugs violates their freedom and practice of religion, a Constitutional right.

If you agree, make your voice heard and exempt companies like Hobby Lobby from the healthcare mandate.
