Fort Myer and Arlington have so much to see--the old part of the cemetery is fascinating, with individual tombstones that are not the famous rows of plain stones.  One guy has an anchor--an ANCHOR--on his grave, another has a small pyramid with reliefs of his campaigns in the Seminole wars along the faces, another has a piece of rose quartz about the size of a Volkswagen.

The Old Guard Caisson crew is a fabulous visit, and the last time I went it was indeed humbling, heartening and sacred to see these young young kids in great shape, who with perfect courtesy can tell you EVERYTHING about what you are seeing, its history and its meaning.

The reverence, respect and pride in their duty is apparent in all they do, even on a casual day with someone just wandering into the stables out of the cemetery.

God bless them, and thank God he has blessed US with them and all their fellows who serve.

Behghazi... the President asserts hid did not tell anyone NOT to help... but as this would be the invasion of a Foreign Nation ONLY he could send troops in to help... because these were CIVILIAN personel, not military (remember, the SEALs were not active duty... ).

ONLY the President could make a Legal (War Powers Act) assertion needed to send military personel into a Sovereign Country we were not at war with...

In the end... the President needed to do a Positive Act to help.... he did not... which is why the CIA and DOD could do nothing, except try to get local help there (which they attempted, and failed...).

121 Reminds me of my favorite quote that I would often think of while listening to people complain about the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

"War is an ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things. The decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feeling which thinks that nothing is worth war is much worse. The person who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing which is more important than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature and has no chance of being free unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself." - John Stuart Mill

138 After the workers exercised their Right to Work, CWA union official Judy Brown emailed a spreadsheet that contained the employees' personal data (including their Social Security numbers) to other CWA officials with instructions to "forward this information to your affected locals." CWA Local 3602 union president John Glenn posted the spreadsheet on a public bulletin board. Other CWA union officials likely disseminated the information through email and other means.

A resulting National Labor Relations Board, or NLRB, investigation affirmed that the employees' personal information was posted, but the board's general counsel refused to prosecute the union. Therefore, in June 2008, AT&T employee Jason Fisher and 15 other employees, represented by National Right to Work Foundation attorneys, filed a lawsuit in state court under North Carolina's Identity Theft Protection Act, or ITPA, against Local 3602 and its parent unions.

Incredibly, both the trial court and the North Carolina Court of Appeals found that the unions are entitled to a special exemption from being penalized for revealing employees' personal information. Both courts ruled that such trampling of employee rights is an activity that can be covered only by the National Labor Relations Act, or NLRA, and consequently may not be punished by state authorities.

Imagine that. North Carolina's courts have held that federal labor law pre-empts a completely unrelated state identity theft law, even though the U.S. Supreme Court has long held that a state retains jurisdiction where the conduct to be regulated touches deeply rooted local interests.

Of course it's going to be just as unfair to blame zero as it was to blame Bush, but at least Gov. Christy covered himself.

194 Eighteen percent of Americans inexplicably think that President Barack Obama is Jewish, according to a new poll. A survey commissioned by the Associated Press and conducted by GfK asked respondents to identify ObamaÂ’s religion from a list of possibilities. Thirty five percent said Obama had no religion, 28 percent correctly identified Obama as a protestant Christian, another 28 percent declined to answer, 18 percent said he was Jewish, 10 percent said he was Muslim and five percent said he was Catholic. Another two percent each said they didnÂ’t know, or named some other religion. And these idiots are allowed to vote?

220 I found out what the deal is with that Battleground poll.  They have two results.  The raw topline number is Obama +1, and that is reported by Politico and goes into the RCP average.

But Battleground also has a reweighting model they use to measure enthusiasm, ground game, and early votes.  That reweigthing model is returning Romney +5 or a 52/47 win.  They are specifically saying that if the Dems up their ground game performance, that number can close, but not enough to win.

Once again Folks.... eye on the ball.... don't let them confuse the subject.

Under the War Powers Act.... as we did NOT have a valid Status of Forces Agreement with the Libyans... ONLY the President could send troops into Libya, and ONLY through a Positive order.

These were Civilians in trouble... not Military (the SEALs were not Active is my understanding)... so the Military hands were tied WITHOUT the President invoking the War Powers Act.

Thus, it was Obama's LACK OF ACTION which made it impossible for the DOD to send help to those in Benghazi fighting for their lives...

CIA and State did what they could, ie, tried to get local help, but they are not in control of the military.... ONLY the President could call them in.... AND HE DID NOT.

His story is that he did not tell anyone NOT to help... but he did NOT order them TO HELP (funny how a little change in word order, killed 4 people).

Odd you'd make that comparison. Recall that the Dalai Lama announced his coming out as a Marxist, though the Dalai Lama NEVER attributed his faith as Muslim as Obama's was in Indonesia. Of course, Obama and Rev.Wrong share in common having come from the Muslim faith into the Marxist Black Liberation Theology.

"As I stated recently about Obama, he has been taken off-planet for the safety and security of the plan for freeing the world from a criminal financial controlling cabal, and in his place is a clone created by enlightened galactic-persons where are helping to free our world in advance of our Ascension. He stated that he intentionally left right before the debates started so that the clone would not be as well prepared, so enlightened ones on the planet would know it was not heÂ…or at least to make some people question or wonder, and to start a dialog."

Having a bit of history with this.... it depends on the Status of Forces Agreement with the host country.

Under the UN rules, the host country is supposed to defend the embassy... but this was not even an embassy, but an annex, and a CIA safe house.

The Person of the Ambassador, while supposedly protected by the Host Country, is also immune to local law.... and will normaly have his own security.... but... under US Law (War Powers Act) : a national emergency created by attack upon the United States, its territories or possessions, or its armed forces.

So, the question becomes, would a General, on his own, Invade a Sovereign UN Member State, we are NOT at War with, to save the life of an Ambassador WITHOUT the Legal Cover of the President invoking his Commander in Chief power? (Because an Ambassador is NOT the United States, territory, possessions or part of the Armed Forces).

'IF' there had been active duty military under Attack?  Self Defense orders would have hit, and the War Powers Act would give cover.... but to invade a soverign nation to help CIVILIANS is a call ONLY the President can make IMO.

270 There doesn't have to be an invasion to protect a consulate in a nation without any real formal government structure in flux after a revolution in the first place. We had assets in place as I understand it, at least a drone anyway.

272 Regretfully, this is a load of crap.  A couple years ago after watching The Marines 8th & I Silent Drill team, I made my way back to the Metro by cutting through Arlington Cemetery.  I made my way through the cemetery by myself -- I didn't see anyone else.  When I arrived at the Tomb of the Unknown Solider, I started making my way up the steps but was halted by the shouts of a mall cop.  Turns out the cemetery was closed, the guard had gone home, and I got an SUV escort to the entrance by a couple of rent-a-cops.  Yep, the after-hours security at Arlington is outsourced, but not Airport security.

For a Navy officer you are completely unprepared.

One bottle/day for the duration of the emergency.

The Naval Reserve Center? Is that out near the Throgs Neck?

274 I'm worried if it heads to Philly - a lot more people there...

Traditionally, after eyewall landfall, they lose a lot of strength and begin heading north right away. So I'm not too worried about Philly. The NJ coastline from top to bottom is gonna take a historic beating though.

Agreed... but ONLY the President could make the call to send in US Military... remember, they are controlled by a HUGE mound of law and regulation as to what they can, or cannot, do.

CIA? If they had assets they could use them... the Military however is under much more strict Legal Control...

Thus, the dead perished because of the President's LACK of Action... and his trying to foist blame off on others should be called what it is.... Political and COWARDLY.

280 My grandfather is buried off to the right of the tomb and down the hill.  The guard at the tomb is truely moving to watch.  They were ordered to stand down for the first time ever when we had a hurricane 7-8 years ago hit Washington head on.  They refused the order and stood watch anyway.  Anybody know how we can send them some pizzas today?

The Old Guard's job is burials and the Tomb, and the Tomb guys work 24/7, 365 days a year.  It's not surprising they outsource physical security of the grounds, especially at night.

Furthermore, if you were watching the 8th and I drill team at the Marine Corps Memorial (aka. the Iwo Jima Memorial), why didn't you walk to the Rosslyn Metro station instead of going through the cemetery after hours?  Rosslyn's at 10-minute walk from there.
