— Jack M. So, this morning we awaken to find out that Team Barry's narcissistic obsession with memes that begin with the letter B (Binders, Big Bird) now encompasses "bayonets."
This meme was birthed (another B word, since that's all Barry can seem to remember) during an exchange the soon-to-be-ex-president had with Gov. Romney in last night's debate. As you'll recall, Gov. Romney had just schooled Obama on the fact that under his watch the United States Navy has fewer ships now than it did in 1916.
This fact prompted the man who is about 2 weeks away from planning his presidential library to respond thusly:
Obama snarked that “we also have fewer horses and bayonets, because the nature of our military’s changed.”
I only know of one place in which this assertion by President Obama is true: Benghazi. We certainly didn't have any bayonets there. Then again, Benghazi is the only B-word that Team Barry seems to have trouble talking about.
Instead, the president's comment was just another platitude: an empty statement made as if meaningful. And, thanks to Jim Morrison, I now have a handy go-to term for the president's statements:
I simply refer to them as being Horse Platitudes. I decided to do a little research this morning. (Very little, I'm lazy, and I don't have nearly the staff that the President of the United States does). And look what I found on the first website I visited, which just so happens to be the official website of the United States Marine Corps:
From 500 yards, every Marine is accurate with a rifle. Attach the OKC-3S Bayonet, and the weapon becomes just as effective in close combat situations. Also a Marine's multi-purpose fighting knife, the OKC-3S is the weapon of choice when shots can't be fired. Every Marine receives bayonet training in the Marine Corps Martial Arts Program (MCMAP) and on the Bayonet Assault Course in Recruit Training.
In addition, Ben linked an article in his news dump this morning that states the following:
But horses and bayonets both remain vital parts of the U.S. arsenal.
The Daily Caller won a prestigious Edward R. Murrow award this year for a war report about the American soldiers who — riding on horseback — were the first U.S. forces to fight in Afghanistan after the 9/11 terror attacks. (RELATED VIDEO: Secret mission: The Horse Soldiers of 9/11)
And bayonets remain a fixture in Army infantry training and deployment. On August 6 a blogger at the Gizmodo technology website reported that the military was trading in bayonets for a “tomahawk”-like hand-to-hand combat weapon, but it later emerged that the source of that erroneous report was Duffelblog — a military spoof website modeled on The Onion.
Ahh...that Barry...don't you love it when the Commander-in-Chief gets his military info from a source with all the same level of rigorous fact-checking and subject matter expertese as....The Onion?
I had another thought when I watched this last night. Barry doesn't much care for the ships that are built in Virginia. And Biden pretty much said we don't need M-1 tanks built in Ohio anymore. And, bayonets are just so passe...unless DARPA is working on a Strategic Unicorn Skittles Bombing Drone, I'm not sure there is a single weapons system out there that will pass muster with this mal-Administration.
But Barry did "win" a Nobel Peace Prize. So he's got that going for him. Which is nice.
Anyway, to keep my string of pop-culture posts intact, I'm including a user-made mash up of the Doors' "Horse Latitudes/Moonlight Drive" video for your amusement/horror.
After 4 years of the Obozo regime, I now understand fully what Jim Morrison meant by his "mute nostril agony" lyric. I feel it everytime Obama issues another one of his Horse Platitudes.
Feel free to follow me on Twitter. I'm @jackmcoldcuts, and I freaking rock.

Let's not forget that in addition to telling VA that ships are no longer necessary, Obama told Colorado that the Air Force is useless and Florida that the space program is over.
Yes, its hard to believe that the same administration that showed off Russian naval ships to show its support for the military is really not all that for the military at all. But he got BIN LADEN - another B word.
The Obama campaign: Big Bird, Binders, Bayonetes and Bin Laden. A poet's dream.

I don't really have a problem with Oblameo saying the military's needs have changed and they don't want horses and bayonets anymore.

This line might of work if he actually gave an argument for modernizing the military. But it was simply in response to Mitt's desire to build a bigger Navy. Obama's idea of a modernized Navy is an aircraft carrier that runs on corn.

I used to tell Jimmy, words have meanings. You can't get just throw them around irresponsibly and expect other people will understand you. Sure, crowds might roar for a while, enjoying the sound of it. But if there's nothing real there...not enough stout Navay ships behind all the blather, you might say...things can go wrong quickly. In Benghazi, as in Paris.

I agree, but maybe this would be the wake-up call the world needs to stop supporting jackasses like Obama for President over here. Once they get a taste of what it's like when the US withdraws from the world (I got a pretty good idea of what it will be like, since we've got, oh, about 5,000 years of recorded history as a guide), they'll possibly come around.
That and the resulting chaos would practically guarantee the death of the environmental movement in this country, as our need for energy would have to be filled by more domestic sourcing.
So, short-term pain, long-term gain? I don't know, just trying to find a potential silver lining around the possibility that this dumbass could win a second term.

As a side note, the Somali pirate problem has really calmed down in the past year. Partly because of patrolling by sophisticated naval vessels, but mostly because of a couple of skilled US Navy SEAL snipers and the fact that merchant shipping began to finally hire mercenaries to ride along on their ships and shoot back at pirates before they get the chance to climb on board.
