How to Get Away With Crossing Chuck Norris
— rdbrewer

First, go to Slovakia.

Slovaks have been voting overwhelmingly in favour of naming a new pedestrian and cycling bridge near their capital after 1980s US action film and TV star Chuck Norris.

. . .

The actor's work has become a popular source of kitschy fun among Slovaks and a mainstay for local jokes about macho strength and invincibility.

The final decision will be up to a regional assembly. But regional governor Pavol Freso has said it would follow the wishes of the people in the internet ballot where Norris leads as the top choice for the bridge's name.

If money was no object, I'd have to put "crossing Chuck Norris" on my bucket list. Thanks to @Gabby_Hoffman and @EvanPokroy. Also, Donald Trump dumps on the Oscars, Sascha Baron Cohen, a security guard, and Vanity Fair.

Northern Va. Right outside DC. I don't like DC either. I've lived in Manhatten and Brooklyn. My in-laws are still there. We go 5-7 times per year. It's not that I haven't been there or that I'm from Nebraska. I just dislike it. The thing I dislike the most is that some of the people think that because they live there they are somehow hipper or hotter or something. My mother in law, who I otherwise like, has this attitude which makes me want to shout at her until she shuts the hell up. I also dislike the filth even though that has improved a lot since the 80s.

What are local Tea Partiers to think with requests like “Please identify your volunteers” or “are there board members or officers who have run or will run for office (including relatives)”? What possible reason would the IRS have for Tea Parties to “name your donors” when said donations are non-deductible? These are just a few of the questions asked by the IRS in these letters, and one cannot help but suspect an intrinsic threat encompassing all these demands.

69 Obama is a "secret" Muslim. In a Forbes article, "My Muslim President Obama: Why members of the faith see him as one of the flock," writer Asma Gull Hasan elaborates: ince Election Day, I have been part of more and more conversations with Muslims in which it was either offhandedly agreed that Obama is Muslim or enthusiastically blurted out. In commenting on our new president, "I have to support my fellow Muslim brother," would slip out of my mouth before I had a chance to think twice. "Well, I know he's not really Muslim," I would quickly add. But if the person I was talking to was Muslim, they would say, "yes he is." Â…. Most of the Muslims I know (me included) can't seem to accept that Obama is not Muslim. Of the few Muslims I polled who said that Obama is not Muslim, even they conceded that he had ties to IslamÂ…. The rationalistic, Western side of me knows that Obama has denied being Muslim, that his father was non-practicing, that he doesn't attend a mosque. Many Muslims simply say back, "my father's not a strict Muslim either, and I haven't been to a mosque in years." Obama even told The New York Times he could recite the adhan, the Islamic call to prayer, which the vast majority of Muslims, I would guess, do not know well enough to recite. [Read the entire article, which is more eye-opening than the author probably intended.]

84 Matters go badly for John. The instructor repeatedly chides him for belittling the ideas of others by rolling his eyes and making facial expressions of disbelief. His insistence on finding a single best possible solution to an economic problem becomes repetitive to the point where the instructor suggests that he seek help at the school's counseling center to manage his anger. John's recourse to statistical data is interpreted as just showing off. By the third week is he no longer blurting out "What about trade-offs and opportunity costs?," since nobody pays attention. He discovers that the Internet offers multiple sites explaining economics, he finds a nerdy on-line discussion group, stops attending class and eventually drops out.

Thanks to his Internet contacts, John joins a small start-up and three years later patents a program to detect lying on the Web. It is widely licensed and John is an instant multi-millionaire. Though rich as Croesus he never sends a nickel to his "alma mater."

86 Alberto Giubilini with Monash University in Melbourne and Francesca Minerva at the Centre for Applied Philosophy and Public Ethics at the University of Melbourne write that in “circumstances occur[ing] after birth such that they would have justified abortion, what we call after-birth abortion should be permissible.” The two are quick to note that they prefer the term “after-birth abortion“ as opposed to ”infanticide.” Why? Because it “[emphasizes] that the moral status of the individual killed is comparable with that of a fetus (on which ‘abortions’ in the traditional sense are performed) rather than to that of a child.” The authors also do not agree with the term euthanasia for this practice as the best interest of the person who would be killed is not necessarily the primary reason his or her life is being terminated. In other words, it may be in the parents’ best interest to terminate the life, not the newborns.

"The Happening" is on FX.  What a fucked up premise this movie is run on.

BUT, nothing much is happening here..........

102 Thanks guys....it truly, truly sucks.   Horrible decision to have to make. ...

103 RIP Bailey....you were a good doggeh... --- My goodness, Tami, I am so sorry to hear that. Please take care of yourself. I know how devastating the loss of a pet is.

104 My condolences about the dog, Tami. I dread the day we have to put ours down (still a few years away, thank God.).

105 Trump, dude. Calm down.  You sound like you are interviewing for the Media Matters domestic partner job.

106 Sorry Tami.  I just got through reading upthread.  Putting down friends like  that is one of the hardest things in the world to do.

107 Alberto Giubilini with Monash University in Melbourne and Francesca Minerva at the Centre for Applied Philosophy and Public Ethics at the University of Melbourne write that in “circumstances occur[ing] after birth such that they would have justified abortion, what we call after-birth abortion should be permissible.”

In a fiery lecture to thousands of followers of the Nation of Islam on Sunday in Chicago, Minister Louis Farrakhan warned that racial hatred could lead to attempts to assassinate President Barack Obama.

... or is that an after-election abortion ?
Why would voters have to live with the mistake ?

109 Tami, my sincere condolences.  I had to do that with my boxer, about 30 years ago, due to displacia.  One of the very best dogs I've ever had.  Also had to put down my Corgi-Spaniel x due to extreme renal failure, about 7 years ago.  I miss them so very much.

They rely on our best judgement though, and know that we loved them through it all.  I was there with them until they slept, and brought them home to give them a proper burial.  I realize not everyone can do that.  I was proud that I could.

Again, my condolences.  It is never easy.

110 Posted by: Islamic Rage Boy at February 27, 2012 04:48 PM ----- Paul has acknowledged that he has not attacked Romney, which is what the data show, so that's not in doubt. He says it's simply because he is knocking out the not-Romney's one by one. I think the 'conspiracy theory' got fueled by Rand Paul saying he would be delighted to be Vice President under Romney soon after Paul's latest round of attacks against Santorum.

Thats been an ongoing debate in certain lib circles. How long after birth is it ethical to put a baby to sleep. I think the consesus is up to a month old, as it does not yet realize it is alive or something.

The leftists have been wanting  something like this to happen since day one.  I for one hope that the SCOAMT leads a healthy life so that I can see him disgraced for a long time.  The last thing we need is Barak Hussein Obama - martyr.

116 I stayed with him through the whole process.  I don't know if that's a good thing to do or not but I owed him at least that much.

I'll be getting his ashes in a couple of weeks.  I know that probably sounds silly but I'm doing it anyway.

117 I cross myself.

118 Not silly at all, Tami.

In my opinion, the "process" it what makes us human.  The love for our pets is part of the process.  To see them through it.  Just as it is with our family members.  To see them through it.  With our beloved animals, as with our beloved humans, we try to walk and take them to the process.  I hope someone will have the same compassion for me when my time comes.

119 Yeah jem, the hardest part is wondering if I made the right decision.  In my head  I think I did but in my heart.....not so much.   I feel like he didn't get a say in it at all.....

Well, I went through this once before a few years ago with my yellow lab.  It just doesn't get any easier.

Posted by: Tami at February 27, 2012 01:19 PM (X6akg)

120 Our beloved pets do the same for us, if they can.  I have seen so many pets, watching their human leave the earth, that are devastated.  They grieve in different ways from other pets too.  But, they do grieve.  I've seen many a pet let their humans go, and join them shortly there-after.  I've also seen many pets that let their humans go, and live longer, if not more memorable lives, but they live out the remainder of their live richer for the blessing of their humans.

121 Definitely a special bond....definitely.

Posted by: Tami at February 27, 2012 01:24 PM (X6akg)

122 Oh, Tami, they DO get a say!  You saw him suffering with no other option.  He trusted YOU!  Get that.  He trusted YOU.

Sometimes the best advise from the best "expert" in the world isn't an option.  Sometimes that advise is shakey at best, and sloppy with greed for money at worst.

You did the best thing, you believed for him. He trusted you on that.  You loved him.  He loved you.

THAT will never die, sugar.

Posted by: jem at February 27, 2012 01:26 PM (0oYHO)

123 I hope you're right, jem...I hope I did do the best thing for him.

Well, he's in doggy heaven now....where there's no limit on treats.  He loved treats.

Posted by: Tami at February 27, 2012 01:35 PM (X6akg)

124 No, it will never get easier.  It shouldn't, in my opinion.  If it did, it would just take away from their worth in our life, and our life in theirs.  They are here for us, and we for them.

And no...lol... I ain't one of those smarmy, marmy, peta green peace pricks...I eat meat and everything!!

Pets are just part of our family, and loving nature.

Of course, Timothy Treadwell, got et by bears.  So much for HIS nature.

But our beloved pets are and always will be a part of us.  They give and take.  We take and give.  Just the way it is.

Reliance is a two way street sometimes.

125 I bet he is sharing in Rocky's and Prancer's treats right now!  :-)

I know it hurts.

Or maybe they don't have to share.  There ain't no gettin' fat in heaven.  LOL!

128 Thanks, Tami.  You are as well.  So are all of our beloveds.

My heart prays for you and yours.
