— Russ from Winterset In about 15 minutes, I'm heading down the street to vote. My little role in the 2012 GOTV effort, or as I like to call it, "Operation Visine" (Get The Red Out). But voting is only half the battle.
As the parent of a 4-year old and the caretaker for a new puppy, please allow me to use an analogy that I've used for a couple of years: Voting is like having a bowel movement - you have to do it RIGHT.
You can sit on the couch and crap your pants if you wish. I don't understand that type of thinking, apparenty you HOPE that someone will come along and CHANGE your pants before the smell gets too bad.
You can take a crap in the sink. It's an immature response that might be useful as a protest, (like back in college when the neighbors kept having loud parties and you left an "upper decker" in their bathroom out of frustration) but do you really want to be known as "that guy"? If so, fine. Just realize that it's got the same results as crapping your pants: Someone else will have to clean up the mess. But at least you can proudly say "I didn't crap my pants". As if it matters.
Or, you can be a "big boy" and use the toilet. And while you're at it? Flush. It's the decent thing to do.

Unfortunately, too many of the early rising voters were probably Obama votes, minorities and young liberal types.
Perhaps not. They may be the working sort, hence their early arrival. TFG's voting bloc is probably still asleep (in more ways than one).

Re: other thread PHilly/NBPP discussion. The only way this gets attention is if someone with a Twitter or FB account starts a #noPhillyTourism campaign. Mayor Nutter springs into action when his precious tourist dollars are threatened, like a couple years ago when flash mobs were rampaging through the city and it was hurting tourism.

Just got back from voting in Pinellas County, FL. It's chilly and rainy here this morning. Took us about 35 minutes from getting in line to getting a ballot. 154 voters through the precinct so far. 4 years ago the line was around the building. Today it was half that. Rain is supposed to ease up this afternoon.

And, if that seems racist, I'm sorry.. it's not meant to be. Obama has brought the office of the President to new lows. He has cheapened it. He has catered to the lowest base of American society. And he has not once tried to be President to all Americans.
Fuck him and good riddance. Don't let the door hit you on the way out, Barry.

Just voted in Northern Virginia (Courthouse Arlington) and the place was packed, took me 90 minutes. One guy handing out Republican sample ballots, 3 commie/fugly/hippie guys and girls handing out Dem ballots. Lots of smelly utes wearing the grunge clothes, they must not work, or else their girlfriends have jobs. The hottest babe I saw had a Republican ballot, FWIW.
I also adjunct in the History Dept of one of the DC universities and there is a palpable lack of interest compared to 08. I've only seen three kids with Obama/Biden bumper stickers on their laptops, only 1 shirt, and another kid with a hat. One of my best students, who genuinely was conflicted but will in the end vote for Obama, told me yesterday "it's not cool anymore, the buzz is off," and then he whispered "they already did the black thing and so the novelty's worn off." FWIW from a lonely patriotic conservative fighting against the pernicious liberalism of our educational system. Go R/R!!

Fox just ran an article indicating my state is near the top for potential voter fraud with electronic voting machines registering Obama instead of Romney.
Election officials claim the machines are "very sensitive to touch".
If I end up with an electronic machine, I'll have a sick feeling about this. The machines can do whatever the programmer desired when the "Enter" key is pressed and lie to you on the screen.
Next time I'm voting by mail. That is a paper ballot -- the worst thing that can happen is "losing" my vote, which mathematically is better than reversing it.
My wife did that, and waited until Saturday to personally deposit her ballot. My problem with early voting involves "October surprises", but I'm not seeing a way to vote with any confidence that WYSIWYG actually happens -- I'm a software/hardware engineer.
On the up side -- maybe today won't involve an average of 20+ pre-recorded phone calls, calls with dead silence upon answering, and phone calls asking inanely stupid questions or trying to change my mind about things I've studied for 3 months.

I voted 30 minutes ago. I arrived around 30 minutes before the polls opened and was still around 8-10 in line. By the time I got out the line went all the way out to the street with people standing in sub-40 degree temperatures. Most of them were voting before work, I was voting after work.
I live in Canadian County. It's the reddest county in Oklahoma.
By the way, I saw a woman denied voting privilidges for not having valid ID on her proving she was who she claimed to be.

Well, it wasn't quite that cold in my neighborhood this morning, but there was frost on the ground when I voted at 6:30 w/ Mrs. Tex. We're in a pretty red district, and the line was longer than I'd ever seen. PLUS, for this election, the polling place was handling only ONE precinct instead of the usual two.
According to my highly-accurate internal exit polling, it's Mitt Romney 100%, Jugears McFuckstick 0%.

My only solice is TFG has dropped by huge numbers here compared to '08 and that says something, I think, to the crap weasels that run this joint.

I did my civic duty and voted this morning! I was there when the polls opened; I didn't want there to be ANY chance that something might happen between now and the end of the workday that might keep me from registering my vote. I took great pleasure in filling in every oval in the Republican column on my ballot, especially the ones beside Romney/Ryan and Ovide Lamontagne. Yes, we still use paper ballots here.
The line was fairly long for my itty bitty ward first thing in the morning. Just FYI, the last time I saw a line like that at my polling location?
2010.

As for my laptop, I only got two years service out of my hard drive. I was having a lot of problems with it starting about two months ago. Did a diagnostic, nothing showed up until I did the full one, which showed the HD had died. Obviously, it was an intermittent problem. New one is scheduled for delivery on Thursday. It's not a direct replacement, couldn't get one from Dell, strangely. Had a 500Gig 7400 rpm screamer originally. Now getting a 250Gig 7400 rpm. Will replace it myself.

On November 6 the Luxe Sunset Boulevard Hotel will serve as an official polling site for the 2012 election. In true Luxe fashion, the hotel will be offering voters in precincts 9001354A and 9001364A a unique voting experience.
The hotelÂ’s polling station will be located in the festive Luxe Sunset ballroom. Hotel guests and local residents (anyone in the 90049 zip code) who stop by the hotel on November 6 will be treated to Election Day specials that include complimentary valet parking, a voucher for 15% off a future dinner at On Sunset restaurant, special room rates and hors dÂ’oeuvres throughout the day such as coffee, muffins and festive finger foods.
Did your polling site have finger foods. festive or otherwise?

Now, it's a foregone conclusion we'll go for Romney, but in any election I've ever voted in, even in 2008, the line was 20 people long at best. He said it's wrapped and winding all down the halls inside the church polling station.

I live so close to my location that I scout for the best time. When I just looked the working voters were still piled up out the door in the rain. So willing to be late to vote. That's a good sign for Romney. In 2008 they were already done at this time or had left.

One thing that continues to amaze me when I go to vote is that the people doing check-in NEVER get my name right. It doesn't matter how clearly I enunciate. It doesn't even matter if I spell my name out for them (which I always do). They always, always, ALWAYS spend thirty seconds trying to find my name in the wrong spot on the checklist. "I'm down at the bottom," I usually end up telling them. Then, "No, up a bit. A little more. No, that's actually my father."
You don't want to know how many times they've tried to check me off as either my mother or my father. MY FATHER. Not to put too fine a point on it, but my chest size leaves no doubt as to my gender, IYKWIMAITYD.
This year we've got new Voter ID rules, so I thought I'd be able to cut through all that BS by just handing over my ID as I checked in. So I slid my driver's license across the table, said, "I'm so-and-so," and waited.
THEY STILL LOOKED IN THE WRONG SPOT ON THE CHECKLIST.
OMG, my name is RIGHT THERE! It's spelled out in neat little black block letters! Height, weight, age, gender -- all of it! RIGHT THERE on that little rectangular piece of plastic!
*headdesk*
And in the end, the woman STILL tried to check me off as my mother. I had to tell her, "That's my mother actually. I'm the next line down."
*more headdesking*

I understand the sentiment but it doesn't reflect American values.
Better yet would be:
Election day becomes National Holiday.
Proof of USA Citizenship
Voter ID Picture with sig
Registration required 14 days prior (or what ever time is deemed necessary to check bona fides and no multiple state registration.)
This would eliminate a lot of slackers.
the dems know they're riding the backs of lazy/uninformed people. Besides helping detect fraud that why they don't like the id requirements. Their voters are mostly too lazy to get ID. Or are afraid to apply. IYKWIM
The polls should be open to all CITIZENS and NO OTHERS.

It's not exactly hard to tell I'm a chick. Me "No, this one" SHE GOT IT WRONG AGAIN! Sweet people other than that though. I had an amusing chat with the next lady about how they bought bags and bags of new pens and they weren't working because it was too cold.

The property requirement for voting was eliminated before the colonies became States. IOW it was gone before 1776.
****
At the federal level the Constitution ratified in 1787 (not 1776) does not include a property requirement for voting in federal elections.
But at the state level, owning property as a requirement for voting persisted until the 1850's.
Dorr's Rebellion in RI (1841-42), for example, arose over the disenfranchisement of a majority of men in the state, who were not property owners.
Moore , of course, is a dimwit, in that he construes a requirement for voter eligibility as a "suppression", but 200 years ago the idea that you had to have skin in the game in order to vote was commonplace.
Good arguments can be made to resurrect that idea, chief among them the problem of people paying no taxes voting themselves "free stuff".

The hair color has gotten better. It's not so blue anymore.
The style is the same. I call it older woman helmet hair.
They cut it short to make it easy to take care of.
(this is dangerous ground but I'll press on)
I have a theory about women's hair:
The shorter the hair, the less likely the woman feels the need to be attractive as compared to the need to have the ease of maintenance.
I.E. the fewer men in a women's life == the shorter the hair.
I think they would be better letting the hair grow longer as the short hair has become almost a uniform nation wide. but then I'm a guy and like long hair on women. (of any age. it makes them look younger. hint, hint ladies?)
Now I'll sit and wait for the backlash.

SMOD
Sweet Meteor Of Death.
During the dark days of the primaries when there was much contention and dispair. Lo, the angst was great as we watched our own favorites disintegrate, consume the tardisil, or fall to their own pain medication in the debates. It was a time of great gloom.
At that time, we hoped for nothing but the sweet release of death. It was approximately the month 4 B.R. (Before Ryan) those who were not in the Romney camp wished for a meteor to put us out of our misery like the dinosaurs. Thus, it was "Vote S.M.O.D."
Things changed after "R" became "RR". The stars had realigned we began to consider that Mitt may be the one who could bring down the One. Now, we wish that SMOD will spare us and only impact our enemies.
