— rdbrewer He's going after Sarah Palin again. He's been doing this for years. Maybe there is something I don't understand about politics, but shouldn't you be at least a bit, um, political if you're going to get into that game? He's a campaign manager, for goodness sakes.
“For me and the experience I had on this campaign is that there are worse things than losing,” Schmidt said. When he was asked to spell that out, he said, “When a result happens that puts someone who’s not prepared to be president on the ticket, that’s a bad result. I think the notion of Sarah Palin being president of the United States is something that frightens me, frankly. And I played a part in that. And I played a part in that because we were fueled by ambition to win.
Could he possibly be more un-political?
Who would ever hire this guy again, knowing that if he gets cranky and doesn't get his woobie he's going to start backstabbing? Even if you had legitimate reasons for feeling negatively toward your candidate, you wouldn't go around trashing them afterwards like this. Right? What am I missing here?
Thanks to commenter "kbdabear."
Added: Commenter "Jeff B." has a theory:
His career was already over. He's been toxic for quite awhile now. The simple fact is that any GOP candidate who hired him would immediately get swamped by a wave of negative publicity from the conservative grassroots -- and this was the case long before the movie ever came out.Schmidt knows this. He knows he has nothing to lose. He's positioning himself for a punditry gig at this point, and building his "bipartisan" credentials with an eye towards that.

I only watched it once. .....But there was one part that keeps replaying in my head.....
It was Schmidt and company were at a bar, talking about 'what went wrong'. ....One of the other guys said ...."It takes a Star to win the presidency now" ...and "Obama and Palin are stars".
They went on to say that "but at least Obama can name a Supreme Court case". .....So they [HBO] furthered their narrative that Palin was picked only because of her 'star power' but because she was 'dumb', they lost.
But I think that they inadvertently betrayed their motives, with that line about "Obama and Palin are stars". ......Palin's star power is the whole reason that they made this turd of a movie. They did it to try to bury her.

Why not make him the fucking president? He has all the low-life, backstabing, don't-leave-me-out-of-a-Georgetown-cocktail-party attitude that seems to be essential for the GOP establishment today.

If operatives like Schmidt and Wallace have grave reservations about the clients they serve thats OK. Happens all the time.
Whats not OK is to air dirty laundry in public like this. That is the unforgivable act of disloyalty, not the fact that neither of them thought Palin was prepared to be POTUS.
Funny though, I never once heard either Schmidt or Wallace say a word about how fundamentally unqualified Obama was/is.
It is well within reason for people to think that the reason Wallace and Schmidt are still crapping on Palin is that is keeps them relevant on the DC/NYC cocktail party circuit, where it is a virtual requirement of invitation that one state for the record that Palin is a knuckle dragging moose eater who doesnt know which side won WW2.
I'd be shocked if a national campaign ever hires one of these two ever again. I certainly wouldnt, for the disloyalty reason given above, not the fact that both are over-rated pampered beltway mediocrities from a talent standpoint.

lack the willpower to do so on their own. The paper suggests that such
individuals could take a pill that would trigger mild nausea upon the
ingestion of meat, which would then lead to a lasting aversion to
meat-eating. Other techniques are bound to be more controversial. For

Chief Meehan then twice called the reporter, Doug Oakley, and sent him numerous follow up emails urging him to alter wording in the story about a community meeting called to examine Berkeley police response to the Feb. 18. murder of Peter Cukor.
The 12:45 am visit by Sgt. Mary Kusmiss on March 9 and subsequent police demands have left Oakley disturbed and shaken. “
I haven’t slept in 24 hours,” said Oakley, who lives in Berkeley and has written about the city for six years. “It was really intimidating.”

(reposted from an earlier thread)
WeÂ’re going to win in November, but we donÂ’t deserve it.
If we continue to field candidates who are so fucking stupid
(surrounded by staff and advisors who apparently are even more fucking stupid), we have no business running a government.
Political campaigns should be won by people who recognize opportunities and exploit them, not slow witted eunuchs who couldnÂ’t find their ass with both hands.
There is an entire army of right wing voters who proved
their numbers and motivation during the 2010 midterm elections waiting for someone to speak up for our side. On Saturday, HBO aired “Game Change”, a shameless hit piece on Sarah Palin. Here it is Monday afternoon, and not one of our candidates have taken the opportunity to forcefully denounce the film, the self serving ex-political advisors who fabricated this fiction and most of all, the MSM, who are too lazy and partisan to question the ludicrous assertions made.
Approval numbers shoot through the roof when our people
attack the left and the press, but there is no one on our side with the balls and the chivalry to stand up for what is right. Instead of hitting it out of the park, Newt is conducting secret talks with the silver-tongued Rick Perry. Santorum is still stuck on birth control and Mitt, the ball-less wonder, stutters from one engagement to another.
What a fucking worthless party we have.

I don't need the likes of Schmidt to tell me that Palin is a shallow-minded drama queen with a penchant for attention-whoring. It's plenty obvious without them bagging on a former candidate / reality TV star.

In the movie.....McCain's 'decision' to suspend his campaign, was made as a political ploy. ....The idea wasn't even his idea. It was his advisors, Schmidt and company, who came up with the idea.
McCain was shown worrying about the financial meltdown, and how the O-team would be blaming it on Bush....and asking "what should I do". ....So the movie writers went out of their way to make McCain out to be this power-hungry guy who didn't do anything out of principle, only for political gain.

Generally, no. In most cases, the HIPAA Privacy Rule does not apply to an elementary or secondary school because the school either: (1) is not a HIPAA covered entity or (2) is a HIPAA covered entity but maintains health information only on students in records that are by definition “education records” under FERPA and, therefore, is not subject to the HIPAA Privacy Rule."

I had a mentally ill (I hope) supervisor follow me to a dr.s appointment after work, he came into the waiting room, and after I was called into the back with the doctor, he just barged into the exam room while I was talking to the doctor and sat down. Look on the Dr.'s face was priceless. I was so angry I about hit the ceiling, and left in a rage. of course it gets better, but i've only so much room. 293 I'll bet Schmidt has a very healthy offshore account. No law says taking huge amounts of money from a third party during a campaign is illegal.

Maybe, but one of the common themes you see from those who worked with her is that she showed little interest in working with staffers to adequately prep and was hostile to any form of criticism from those tasked with helping her.
We see that still today- how often does she admit making even the slightest mistake? How informed does she come across when she appears on Fox to deliver shallow platitudes?
Herman Cain at least had the excuse that he wasn't accustomed to political campaigns and the national spotlight. Palin has had 4 years to craft herself as a well informed and credible political analyst, but for whatever the reason hasn't, and doesn't seem interested in doing so.
Instead she talks about how awesome it would be to have a brokered convention... because it would allow her to stir up some more bullshit drama.

In the interview that Sarah Palin gave early on, when she was asked what periodicals she read, she should have answered the question. She tried to BS a non-answer. I don't care if she reads "People" Magazine. Answer the damn question. She made herself look like a fool. They went to great lengths to keep pointing out how the 'vetting' of Palin was a rushed job, by McCain's people.
Personally.....I think they did this to provide 'cover' for the way the Liberroid media went after Palin so savagely, and called it 'vetting'. ....Trouble is, they sent a fucking army after Palin, to dig up anything they could find.....and yet gave Barky a complete wave-through.

That he lost to Barack Obama with Obama's radical ties and very thin resume was an epic failure. They were winning until Mccain's campaign reacted to the economic problems very poorly.
Steve Schmidt has to find a scapegoat for his failure.

Rubio is a much better choice. He's a good advocate, he's just a Senator today... but would be enhanced greatly as VP and help the party's image AND help with a tough swing state.

It's mind boggling that they failed this hard. They can blame Bush and Palin all day long, but the real fault was with this campaign.
It wasn't a great campaign, but there's really no scapegoat (with the possible exception of GWB) needed- it was a bad year for Republicans. Nothing Palin could've said or done would've turned it around, and it's unlikely McCain would've won even if he ran a stellar campaign (which he definitely didn't).
Palin could've and should've done a better job preparing for engaging with the media, but in the end it would've done little but spare her a little of the ridicule that would be thrown her way regardless.
I doubt any of the staffers like Schmidt honestly believe that McCain would've won if not for Palin. However, they have egos too, and if they felt like their advice wasn't valued, they're going to be prone to lashing out.

Hey, I am praying hard core that Romney is not the nominee because most of the independents and possible dems who might cross over and not vote for Obama, can't see a difference between romney and obama and some even can't stand plastic mitt. Would like to see the Republican party re configure the entire primary process so Iowa's and Maine's can't happen, so the system is beyond reproach. So people can't even think that if you have enough of a personal fortune you could buy the republican nomination. I would like to have seen rick Santorum have the momentum from Iowa instead of watching them give it to Romney when it didn't fit the narrative.

I had hoped you would analyze a bit better than that.
In either event what I was hoping you'd get out of my comment was, IF Palin was simply substantially more purist and uncompromising in her political views than the staff felt comfortable with how would they describe her?
Well if all of the political forums where I have debated various topics with the so called pragmatists is of any indication. Shallow minded comes immediatly to mind. Pragmatists believe that their "nuance" is absolutely necessary, and that if you disagree with them you are either stupid or uninformed. So once they explain the "facts" to you and you are no longer uninformed, if you still disagree, you're stupid.
Far be it for some other intelligent human to analyze the same subjective situation and come up with a different conclusion.
Anyway it is well within the realm of possibility that their bitching stems from their displeasure with her ideology, not from an actual thoughtful analysis of her intelligence.
No she would not have made a good candidate (you loaded Palinista into your gun, I saw you) and even she knew that. She never improved because she never intended to run, so didn't need to.
And at this point, in my opinion, the final 3 have buggered this so badly that come primary day, I am specifically voting for a brokered convention. I know Mitt is our only hope. Well, I disagree.

But in many respects, Mccain did not hit Obama powerfully enough. They did not seem to have a clear vision for this country. Obama was a much weaker candidate in many respects that they barely addressed at all.
It was a tough year for the GOP, and we will have many more tough years when our presidential campaigns are run like Mccain's was.

The biggest criticism you can reasonably level against Palin is that she was naive. Mainly, she had no idea what a pool of sharks she found herself among, IN THE MCCAIN CAMPAIGN.
The Couric interview? Yeah, I forget if it was Wallace or somebody else, but she was told point blank, Katie is on board and ready to make you look good.
That deer in headlights look you get from Palin? That's her realization she was set up to look bad BY THE MCCAIN CAMPAIGN.
So yeah, if you want validation that Palin was a bad candidate, you needn't look any further than the people who RAN THE MCCAIN CAMPAIGN.
Posted by: BurtTC at March 12, 2012 06:43 PM (Gc/Qi)
Most probably , there were no sane reason to make that interview so early and in that way with a crazy liberal jorno if they had planned to win.
If she was so unprepared as they say , they would have tons of attack bites from that multi day interview.

No doubt Schmidt and others responsible for the Palin movie are scum. No doubt they deserve a beatdown.
But why is it up to the GOP candidates to deliver it? Why should they be put on the spot, taking time and focus from their campaign messages to defend Palin and denounce a stupid HBO movie on the 2008 election-- when it's Democrats who should be put on the spot every day and be forced to defend Obama now in the year 2012?
What this movie as well as the recent Dem ad against Palin shows is that Obama and DNC would like a replay of 2008: they'd like to run against Palin (a Tina Fey and now Julianne Moore'd Palin). Obama is such a SCOAMF that they'd like to make this election a referendum on Rush and Palin (as quote unquote "de facto leaders" of the GOP)-- instead of a referendum on Obama.
They put a lot of effort into setting up that lose/ lose trap re the Rush "slut" thing, demanding that the GOP candidates defend or denounce him. If the candidate criticizes Rush too much, he risks alienating the conservative base; if he doesn't criticize him enough, the DNC conflates them in the whole BS "war on women" meme. Fortunately, Romney didn't fall for either prong of that trap.
The Dems want to determine the topic of MSM discussion. They want to force the GOP candidates to talk about e.g. Rush-- instead of the SCOAMF's SCOAMFness. Why oblige them? Your demand that the GOP candidates take time to publicly defend Palin (who is no damsel in distress) also plays into the Dems' hands, setting up another possible lose/ lose trap for the candidates. If they don't defend Palin enough, they alienate the conservative base; if they defend her too much, the Dems/ MSM conflate the candidates with Palin, distract from the issues at stake in the 2012 election and instead rerun 2008, Obama vs. (the Tina Fey/ Julianne Moore caricature of) Palin.
Which isn't to say conservatives and Republicans shouldn't defend Palin and denounce the egregiously unfair attacks on her, e.g this hitjob of a movie. But it would be a distraction to overdo it and turn this into a battle of damsels in distress (Fluke vs. Palin). And in particular it would be a distraction to demand that the candidates do the defending and denouncing.
IMO one of the political mistakes Obama has so far made in the whole cynical Dem-orchestrated Fluke thing was to intervene so conspicuously himself-- calling Fluke, congratulating her parents, invoking Sasha and Malia in his criticism of Rush. He wants to pander to women and so plays the role of Fluke's gallant defender, denouncer of the evil Rush. But this habit of Obama's to "punch down"-- a POTUS going after a media personality on a pretty trivial matter (the word "slut")-- makes Obama look smaller, weaker, politically opportunistic and petty. Doesn't he have more urgent things to attend to?
By the same token, for the GOP presidential candidates to spend valuable time going after Steve Schmidt (who? he's a gnat undeserving of any attention at all) or a stupid HBO movie would also be a case of "punching down", a distraction from much more important issues, letting themselves get embroiled in the Dem/ MSM-conjured pettiness du jour. And it would be *just* the ticket Schmidt needs to get that Frum gig: for any of the GOP candidates to publicly go after Schmidt would only be a gift to him, a boost to his career prospects as an MSM "GOP" pundit.

There's a big difference in invoking an incumbent President, as a defacto leader of the party, and an ex-governor/ex-VP candidate that was defeated. Yeah that would be pretty stupid. If the best O can do is run against Sarah, we are in better shape than I thought. I doubt Goracle would have stomped Bush if he had just concentrated more on Jack Kemp.

That is true, Palin will only end up being more liked. It kind of reminds me of this last week with Fluke and Rush Limbaugh. The media tried to play it off as a big win for the left but the polls are showing that it was either a loss for the Dems or not big enough to over ride the rising price of gas.

I don't remember Hillary doing a lot of interviews, during the 2008 campaign.
In fact, it was widely known that Hillary wouldn't do any interviews, with anybody, unless she had complete 'review and consent' of the questions that would be asked....in writing. ....So she could sue if there were any questions that deviated from the ones she consented to.
So yeah, I agree with all those who say that Palin was set up.....by Schmidt, and whoever else was responsible for throwing her to the dogs. ....They fucked up. Whether it was on purpose, or from being idiots....it was their piss poor management that was at fault.

They know it's going to get tossed because the Supremes have already ruled on this in a case involving Indiana I believe. This is a stalling tactic that will hopefully drag past the election so they have more time to cheat. The same thing is happening in Wisconsin, only it's state judges not Federal. Dems are hoping to tie the Voter ID laws up in court past November so they can cheat their way to victory.

I agree that it was unprofessional of them, but they're human too.
I'm sure you remember during the campaign that there were stories about conflict within the campaign (pretty common) regarding Palin. If they felt (rightly or wrongly) that she wasn't being a team player with regards to the campaign they were tasked to run, they're going to be tempted to speak out after the fact.
Perhaps they shouldn't have, but Palin isn't the only one with an ego.
