— Ace Nothing super-surprising, but something to keep in mind.
2012 will be a referendum, not a choice. One of the best established findings of contemporary political science is that in presidential contests involving an incumbent, the incumbent’s record is central to the public’s judgment. A race for an open Oval Office is about promises and personalities; a campaign for reelection is about the record and performance of the person currently occupying the White House. To be sure, Obama can offer his vision for the future and new proposals to flesh it out. But if the people don’t approve of his record, that won’t matter much.No more promises of bipartisanship. Obama will have to abandon—or at least radically modify—the promise to heal a polarized political system that was at the heart of his rise to national prominence, starting with his dramatic address at the 2004 Democratic convention. And because his inability to foster this reconciliation has disappointed many people who voted for him in 2008, he’ll have to explain why he couldn’t do it in a way that redirects that disappointment toward the Republican Party and its nominee.
The most important one may be No More "Yes We Can." Obama ran in 2008, in his own words, as a "blank screen" upon which voters could "project" their hopes. He could be anything they wanted to be -- those who wanted a pragmatic problem-solver who was "post-partisan" could see that (and an impeccably creased trouser). Those who wanted a left-wing Black Hope could see that.
Well, he's not Everything to Everybody any longer. He has a record. He is not a pragmatic, post-partisan problem-solver. He is a stubborn and ignorant liberal with radical tendencies.
And he's failed. We are not faced with the interesting dilemma of policies that diminished freedom and the concept of America and yet, somehow, revved up the economy.
We're facing policies which diminished freedom, and America, and also led to the worst recession since the Great Depression.
That's not a hard call.

Use it in casual conversation, start the talk. Sprinkle in phrases like "Boy, I am glad I have a job, unlike os many others." "We have had so many unemployed ever since Obama was elected FOUR YEARS AGO."
Is it still Bush's fault?

Weft,
One problem with hitting President Obama on gas prices is that they will go down again in September and October. This is a Spring through July issue.
We need to hit him on multiple issues, and unemployment is a biggie. The numbers may appear to be good, but everyone is scared for their job, or a family members job, or know people who have been out of work.
The debt is another one. Barack has run up as much debt in 3 years as Bush did in 8 years. How much will we have after 8 years of Obama?

I'm seeing a lot of Romney ads here in the Philly area, and they are really good. I know they were bought for the PA primary, but since he needs to spend all his primary money anyway he might as well run them here and define huimself positively before the Democrat attack machine can get going. The Crossroads PAC is going to beat the shit out of Obama on the economy and gas prices. I saw one of its ads last night on gas prices and it is a killer.
I and a lot of people I know have very long commutes, and these gas prices are killing us. The "commuter states" like New Jersey and Pennsylvania are definitely in play this year. The polls look very bad for Dems all the way down the ticket here - even Bob Menendez only leads by 9 points. I think Bob Casey is in trouble in PA too.

I suspect that trying to play the reverse race card would be more likely to backfire. We don't want to give them reason to 'rally around the flag'.
In 2008 in my mixed-race neighborhood there were a lot more black folks at the polling place than I normally see, especially young blacks who weren't registered (MN has same-day registration).
I don't think they need to be reminded that Obama hasn't made all their dreams come true. They already know, even if reluctant to admit it. Shoving it in their face might not be a good idea.

Frankly, I'd be furious if it did. Fast and Furious should be explosive, but it does little but smolder on Capitol Hill. I have no patience left for minor scandals and he-said-she-said when it seems pretty clear (to me) that there was a conspiracy to attack the Second Amendment, and Border Patrol agents are dead for it. The whole of D.C. is upside down.
Maybe the whole of the nation, for that matter.

The scary thing is that I think a lot of the people with the Obama bumper stickers simply aren't paying attention to the world around them.
For lots of them, I'm sure it goes no deeper than "it felt good to vote for him in 2008, and it will feel good to vote for him again in 2012. Yes! We can!"

President Obama paid a total federal tax rate in 2011 on adjusted income of $789,674 that may be lower than that of his secretary, even though she earned substantially less.
...According to Wikipedia, Johnson is 31 years old and now attends Harvard Law School. I donÂ’t know about her personal life or what her deductions would be, so I canÂ’t assume any children or extra deductions.
On a $90,000 salary, she would pay $16,578 in federal taxes, $3,780 to Social Security, and $1,305 in Medicare taxes.
That adds up to a total federal tax burden of $21,663 on $90,000 in adjusted gross income, or a tax rate of 24 percent.
ObamaÂ’s federal income tax rate was 20.5 percent. If you include the Medicare and Social Security taxes paid by Obama, his total federal tax liability is 21.8 percent, fully two percent less than that of his secretary even though his adjusted gross income was nearly nine times hers.

There is another key factor difference between 2008 and 2012: the Tidal Wave Tea Party Elections of 2010.
Our Deficit/Debt Crisis has only gotten worse since the Tea Party Tsunami swept the Democrats out of the House and ground down their majority in the Senate to a maimed nub.
Why has it gotten worse?
The Senate has not passed a budget in over three years. And ObamaÂ’s Big Spending Budget Proposals have been voted down unanimously in both chambers.
The Democrats have done their level best to thwart even having an honest conversation on the subject. Voting Americans were not fooled in 2010 and they will not be fooled in 2012.
The issue of Outrageous Spending sustained by Monstrous Deficits piling into Catastrophic Debt remains radioactive to Obama and the Democrats.
And the Presidential Election will only massively raise the stakes on this critical issue which is wholly toxic to the Obama and the Democrats.
So realize that the Tea Party has not yet even cleared its throat as to begin speaking on the upcoming elections.
And it wonÂ’t be speaking in favor of Obama and the Democrats.
Rather, the Tea Party will once again SHOUT AT THE TOP OF ITS LUNGS AGAINST OBAMA AND THE DEMOCRATS.
And it will shout them right out of office.
Posted by: _Dave_ at April 13, 2012 11:03 AM (2amQY)
Contrary to idiotic belief, the Paul Ryan Budget Proposal is not going to be politically problematic for the GOP. – It’s going to be a razor sharp weapon wielded against Obama and the Democrats.
ThatÂ’s why Mitt Romney has enthusiastically embraced it. And thatÂ’s why the Tea Party will enthusiastically support Romney as their Champion.
Mitt Romney is the real deal. Over the last four years, he has put together a superb campaign organization. He has a decade’s long track-record of accomplishing big, difficult goals. He’s now a seasoned campaigner – honed by nearly a dozen debates which included competing with intellectual heavyweight Newt Gingrich.
And in case anyone missed the primaries: Romney is fucking ferocious about going after his political opponents on substance. – And yet he never makes it personal.
There are good reasons to be optimistic that olÂ’ Mittens is going to surf that Tea Party Tsunami right into the White House.
Posted by: _Dave_ at April 13, 2012 11:04 AM (2amQY)
To go after Mitten's wife was a huge mistake - especially after he cried about the press going after Michelle and wanting to keep the girls out of the limelight.
Will the dead vote in traditional Donk areas - yes they will, and with the help of all of his community organizing "friends". But there is a difference now - Bammer has a record (or lack thereof) that the GOP and Mitt should be running out at every opportunity he has, and they should be rubbing his nose in it...put his ass on the defensive from now until November. That is how Mitt will win ...

ObamaÂ’s proposed CAFE standards, which will begin taking effect in 2017, raise minimum average vehicle fleet fuel efficiency to 54.5 mpg by 2025. The Environmental Protection Agency and National Highway Traffic Safety Administration estimate that this regulation will raise the average price of passenger cars and light trucks by $3,000.
“The unintended consequences of the proposed fuel economy increases are clear,” NADA Used Car Guide analyst David Wagner said. “If the price of a vehicle goes up by the government estimate of almost $3,000, millions of people will no longer be able to finance a new vehicle.”

Yeah, I really liked it. He spoke so warmly and respectfully of the military, too, and told a story of going to meet the remains of a soldier, and the crowd in the terminal pressing against the glass to watch the casket being removed from the plane. He said everyone had their right hands over their hearts. Made me tear up.
I hope it's up on the internet soon. And I hope everyone will take the time to watch it. I thought it was great.

Jane - I have no doubt, no doubt whatsoever, that Obama and his band of demons despise the military. It will be such a relief to have a CiC that actually honors and respects them. Bush did. 1) he's done a lousy job as president. He's incompetent and hapless, he's just been terrible AT THE JOB, and people are tired of him.
2) people really, really are angry about "Obamacare" and want the ones in charge to pay for that. I think this is extremely underestimated by pundits everywhere. Really, really, really mad.
3) The economy stinks. This is enough on its own to sink any president.
All three combined? Again, I've been wrong before and things can change but I just do not see President Obama winning in November.

He didn't stand up and talk about WMDs (I'm sure he had his reasons), but if you read first hand accounts, there were all the components they needed there to make it.
Plus, when Iraq turned ugly, he trusted the commanders and not the men fighting the fight. He placed his trust in those that wanted to protect their brand, not protect the mission.

The left is absolutely wedded to their leftist ideology regardless of whether it fails in the sense that it makes things worse. They have this absolute loyalty because they believe that anything other than their leftist policies is inherently evil regardless of whether they actually make things better. Therefore, they look at Obama and they know that anyone who engaged in his far leftist politics would fare no better. Therefore Obama can't be blamed for his failures. It is merely the failure of the only option available since any other policies would be inherently evil.

The claim first surfaced in a document posted to the campaign's website Wednesday titled, "5 Things You Need To Know About Mitt Romney." The last bullet point — which has been retweeted by Barack Obama and his campaign staffers over the past 24 hours— says, "He'd get rid of Planned Parenthood and outlaw abortion."

- Fucking priceless.
Obama has managed to create a truly target rich environment of ridicule for himself.

Wait, I thought Planned Parenthood provided a vast array of health services to women and abortion was only a small part of their business. How can he get rid of them if he manages to outlaw abortion? Are you saying that they lied to me? Perish the thought!

Back in May 2007, Dr. Izzat Atiya, head of Al Azhar University’s Department of Hadith, issued a fatwa, or Islamic legal decree, saying that female workers should “breastfeed” their male co-workers in order to work in each other’s company.

Lovie was pretty hot for an older broad. Plus the island was a paradise, Gilligan the lowest paid of the islanders, was kept full of coconut cream pies the whole time there. Also, the Professor was given whatever he needed to make whatever device they needed. They should have thanked Thurston for his generosity.
Plus, you know that Thurston paid the bulk of the charter fee for the Minnow while the others' fee was subsidized.

I don't know. I once went to a (State run) college play put on by the drama department. It was called, "Things That Go Bump In The Night".
