Kucinich 's biggest problem IMHO was equating "taxes" with "revenue" (false) and the replacement for a loss in revenue being more revenue (when it could be spending cuts.)
There's less wrong with saying "a drop in Revenue needs to be either replaced or matched with spending cuts." Strangely Kucinich never considers either side of that. He's a simpleton appealing to other simpletons.

We're re-living 2004-2008 all over again, just opposite.
In 2004 the Left was absolutely certain Bush would lose..even to John Kerry. The Left was convinced everyone hated Bush and would never give that dunce another term. Iraq was quickly turning into a disaster (with the help of the media), the deficit was soaring, and corruption abounded. Bush will be crushed, they thought.
Just like us in 2012, they were wrong. The majority was okay with President Bush and felt no need to change leadership.
But immediately after the '04 election, everything went sour for Bush and the GOP. Bush's 2nd term was a political disaster. In just two years, everything changed for the Democrats in 2006.
The same thing will happen again. The Democrats think they can finagle their way back into the House majority. Not gonna happen. Things are gonna get rough for everyone and despite the media, the blame will fall on Obama and the Democrats.

Why did RR lose the election?
The main two theories I have heard thrown about is that:
1) the demographic waves are making it very tough for pub candidates; or
2) this election was about the makers versus the takers.
But in response to these points I would just like to point out Mississippi.
There are a shit ton of poor people in MI and the state is roughly 40% black and other minorities, maybe a bit higher.
But yet it is a solid red state. What does MI have that a lot of the northern states do not have:
Unions. That is the only main factor I see to explain the disconnect (other than the obvious cultural conservative differences - but I do not believe that 90% of white Southerners are prolife, etc.)
We have to figure out some way to address this problem as it stands in our way in what should be winning states.
I mean, does anyone have any theories as to why we cannot win lily white Iowa? Never spent time there but I would be curious as to thoughts on that specific state.

I was in DC at the time of the funeral. Went downtown for the procession (?). I was about two blocks from where the jets did their flyover. The whole thing was surreal. Like something out of a movie. People everywhere. Standing on any and everything to see. People hanging out of windows in buildings. People on the roof of buildings. And then....utter silence as he came by. I've never been in a public place that was that silent. Just, surreal.

To Democrats Tax and Revenue are the same thing. That is, they believe that a lower tax rate = lower revenue. But the only way they could get there is by looking at percentage of income taxed. Moving the tax rates down increases revenue in real numbers, and revenue as percent of GDP has been pretty constant no matter what we've done with Income Tax Rates (It's been a while since I looked, but IIRC it's between 17 & 18% of GDP on average). Therefore, they can only believe that higher taxes = more money to government if they believe that the Government owns all the money and any that they "let" you have is out of some sense of benevolence.

For instance, if the agreed to a cap on the home mortgage deduction, they should stick to calling it a tax increase on the rich. Not "revenue".

If there's an argument to convince me that there's good reason to allow someone to deduct mortgage interest after financing a $10 million dollar home, I've not heard it yet.
The GOP isn't going to shake it's "party of the rich" stereotype (false though it may be) while behaving as though they are. Increasing tax rates on "the rich" isn't something I'd support, but we lost the "fair share" argument, and not without reason.
Besides, too many people who bought multi-million dollar homes voted for TFG, so screw 'em.

I would tend to agree with this up to this point. We have not had a hard life in this country. Our idea of poverty is laughable in other nations.
My grandparents first house did not have running water. Imagine that. Today this would be some sort of genocidal war crime. But if we continue down the current path much worse awaits us, I fear.

Absolutely. I had a preacher friend of my dad tell me that some day my belief in God would be ridiculed, spat upon, and persecuted. But that was back in the 50's when he told me and it seemed almost impossible then.

Obama really does not have a lot in common with blacks in this country. He grew up in Hawaii, where there is really not a lot of stigma about being black. Then he lived overseas. He had to really work at being accepted as a community organizer (and all of that is where Valerie Jarrett comes in.) We could have pushed that hard. We could have shown how Obama helped throw poor black families out on the street to help his wealthy friends. We could have shown over and over how he really does not "care more about people like me". And if the main campaign didn't know how to do that, they should have made an effort to HIRE blacks on the campaign staff that understood how to make those claims. The Republican party is going nowhere if they can't counter the racism claims. We need to seriously educate people on how the Democratic party WAS the party of racists way into the 70s. And we could show how that racism still exists in the party, in the way that they accuse Republicans of being racist when they mention food stamps for example. We could have come back and shown how we know that there are more white folks on food stamps than blacks. It's the Dems that really think of black people when they think of food stamps. But we keep our mouths shut about this stuff. We need streetfighters running our campaigns and we get the worst "consultants" available instead.
