Jackson had planned on a press conference to announce his resignation but was not able to bring himself to speak about it because of his illness, the source said.The announcement comes after mounting pressure faced by Jackson as federal investigators appeared to widen their ongoing investigation into the congressmanÂ’s activities.
Jackson offered to raise up to $6 million to buy Obama's abandoned senate seat in 2008 from Rod Blagojevic.
Oh, Jesse Jackson Jr. just won his re-election bid despite conducting it 1) under investigation and 2) under sedation and 3) under observation. So Chicago voters have that going for them.
Remember in Miller's Crossing, when the Italian boss wants the Mayor to appoint his twin cousins, who speak no English, to a high political position (which they'll apparently share, as twins)? And first the Mayor balks but then Tom yells at him a little and he goes along with it?

We left that state in 1982 and moved to Arizona. Growing up near South Chicago Heights was pretty good back then. We had beautiful band programs in our schools and there were alot of positive things going on. What the hell has become of that state??
I wish people like JJ Jr could go back and see what it used to be like 30 years ago and maybe they would wake up.

Lets be clear here. There are three issues at play
a. Jackson allegedly has bipolar disorder, for which he was being treated at the Mayo clinic in MN.
b. Jackson is under Federal criminal investigation for diverting campaign money for personal use.
c. Jackson has been alleged to have raised money to purchase the Blago Senate seat. Don't know if there is any pending criminal investigation there or not. . .probably not.
Even assuming he does, in fact, have bipolar disorder, its not at all clear to me why its taken months in MN to treat him. Treatment is typically done as an outpatient. So either Jackson doesn't have BPD, or his medical situation is considerably more complicated than that (or both).

I guess the theory is that if you have a Majority-Minority district, it will be represented by a minority no matter what and so there can be competition to get the best and brightest to that seat.
In reality, it's the oiliest of machine politics and no one ever challenges the machine candidate.
Just look at the awful people that populate the CBC: Corrupt, incompetent (I denounce myself) and sometimes downright stupid.
And yet the voters in that district could vote for literally anyone to replace the jerk they have in Congress and they wouldn't have to worry about dirtying themselves by voting for a white candidate or *gasp* a black Republican, but they refuse and still vote in the jerks.

I just wish the founders had thought ahead and made it where the states were largely in control over their affairs and the federal government had limited powers allowing the states to act like, i don't know, little laboratories. They really should have put in an amendment to the constitution to that effect. Maybe somewhere after the first 9 amendments. Oh well.

I would disagree there.
If someone really is in the manic phase of BPD, their judgment may be completely destroyed, and this "could" create textbook example of where an insanity defense might apply (ie demonstrable mental illness rendering someone incapable of telling right from wrong).
I have no idea if this applies to Jackson, and lacking any specific information about the nature of the investigation against him, I'll leave it at that.
But the cover story. . .out for treatment at Mayo for months. . .doesn't jibe with the public DX of bipolar disorder his camp has put out.
Either Jackson doesn't have bipolar disorder at all but something entirely different (including "malingering"), or he does but he's got any number of other concurrent medical issues that are complicating things.
Note also that at the time his hospitalization became public, there were concurrent stories about alcoholism and severe clinical depression. That sort of thing could explain a prolonged course of therapy, and IMO provides a better explanation than the one he's put out.

The feds often sends newly sentenced inmates who claim medical problems to their Rochester facility for evaluation just to cover their ass. The condition gets diagnosed by a specialist and a treatment plan is set, then they are transferred to their new home. That way no one can yell NEGLECT! especially in political situations as with the blind sheik.
