— Ace In that case I would advise conservatives -- don't retreat, reload.
Jimmy Hoffa, president of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters, said Tuesday he expects Michigan unions and lawmakers to break out into "civil war" after the state legislature passed right-to-work bills that would weaken unions' power."This is just the first round of a battle that's going to divide this state. We're going to have a civil war," Hoffa said on CNN's "Newsroom."
As Usual, The Media's and Democrats' Civility Police Are In The Donut Shop When They Have an Opportunity To Police Their Own Side: Actual violence won't even make the news tonight.

Right?

I'll bet it's tough to be a union member, what with all the cognitive dissonance and all. Most of these guys are probably white gun owners who hate intrusive government and loathe effete little fauxtellectuals like Barry. But still, they've got to support this union because, well, greed.

Staying out of politics.
Unions are really good for nothing these days. Nothing except funneling money to Democrats.
Generally speaking, you'll take home more money if you are not part of a union (employers pay more because they don't have to work around union work rules, plus you keep the dues) and unless you're that fatass lazy sack of crap that stays in the same job for 30 years, you get screwed over by the union.
I was an unwilling member of the AAUP as a grad student. When negotiation time came around, the union was perfectly happy and content to tell us that the full professors got a 10% increase (!) and the rest of us? Well, they were still negotiating.

The problem is a very large portion of the judiciary, including SCOTUS, is not on our side.
Actually, the legal profession operates in such a way that it should be prosecuted under RICO. When somebody says, "You hate us until you need us," they're almost surely running a racket.

Too bad there is not some agency of the Federal Government that would investigate these kinds of interstate threats, that is beyond the scope of a Michigan police force.
You know, like some kind of Federal Bureau, that investigates these sort of inflammatory statements.
And someone in the Federal government, that was a high ranking law officer that might comment on the nature of these kinds of threats.
Too bad.

Simple, Lansing does have a university, but it's land grant (read: agriculture and engineering-focused and generally less wacko) and although UW is land grant also, it's also the flagship university so it's got all the wussmanities too.
Basically, the protesters in Madison were all hippies from the university. In Lansing, they don't have the same numbers.
Also, it is probably finals week there and there's only so far that the students will go to sacrifice for the working man (who they sneer at for not reading the NYT).

We should be able to turn the entire midwest RTW. Except for Illinois cause of Chicago.
Won't happen anytime soon in Minnesota.
Our current Dem governor Mark Dayton is a committed union puppet. He vetoed at least one bi-partisan bill because the unions disapproved.
I seriously doubt it would pass a ballot initiative, either.

Indeed, outside of the Detroit-Ann Arbor axis, Michigan is pretty Republican / conservative. And throw in Flint as being Democrat too.
One reason why Michigan State (East Lansing) and University of Michigan (Ann Arbor) are such rivals. Even though they are not that far apart physically, the culture is completely different.
Western and Northern Michigan are very conservative and that shit in the capital will piss those people off. Don't be surprised if a bunch of Michigan people show up in few days with shotguns in the gun rack of their pick-ups and counter demonstrate. A lot of people in Michigan are very pissed at the way Detroit has been grotesquely mismanaged over the years, and are pissed about the UAW being perceived as chasing a lot of autoworker jobs out of the state. Which they have.

Union goons don't care where their pension went since they fully expect to take any missing money out of the taxpayer's wallet - Flatbush Joe
Exactly. The Pension Guarantee Corporation, which is much like Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac is for mortgages, underwrites Union pensions. And the Pension Guarantee Corporation (Federal) is underwritten with....taxpayer dollars.

I think that's true for the Union bosses.
But the useful idiots who are sent out to protest...are arguing about the virtues of being in a Union.
So I don't think they stop to think about where their pension money is.
They seem to believe the lies.

The apologists are now arguing that we came very close and we have governors, legislatures, etc.so it wasn't [u]that big a loss. Otto and Gregor Strasser organized and built the Northern German/Berlin socialist faction of the NSDAP. The brothersd advocated for change via violent, mass-action worker-based unionist attacks on traditional society. Hitler needed otto and gregor, without support from Berlin, Hitler was just a provincial loudmouth kook living in Bavaria.
Wiki has a decent summary.

PSUs are a bigger cancer. But private unions are still cancers. Every extra $1 union thugs get for being in a union is an extra $1 I have to pay for the product I'm buying. The longshoreman making $200K a year doesn't get paid by his union. He gets paid by consumers of the goods he unloads. Same with teamsters. Same with plumbers, electricians, painters, etc.

Posted by: Mirror-Universe Mitt Romney at December 11, 2012 06:51 PM (aLLUm)
You should read "Leftism Revisited" by Erik von Kuehnelt-Leddihn, and forwarded by William F. Buckley. He states that the Nazi Flags were originally made by sewing Swastikas over the Hammer and Sickle of the Communist party flags they used in previous demonstrations. That's why Nazi flags have a red background.
He pretty much traces the entire History of all known socialist movements and show how they evolve and interlink with each other throughout History. The Nazis and the Communists were originally the same group, which split into two factions. That's why they hated each other so virulently.

It's a perfectly apt comparison. Hitler wanted people to believe that his party was socialist (and it was, there's no denying it) just like the Communist states want people to believe they're populist.

Posted by: AmishDude
Depending on the state, Amish, the client and lawyer don't get that big a chunk. For instance, in Oregon, the state gets 75% of the award and the lawyer can collect no more than 15% or so (I'd have to look it up). It's also taxable for the client.
it's not really a jackpot at that point, and as someone else mentioned, the State Farm case limits punitives to a single digit ratio (meaning no more than 9:1 punitive to compensatory damages). In physical injury or nominal damages cases, that ratio can be exceeded, but that is the exception, and the lion's share still goes to the state.
