— DrewM Obama rewarded David Gregory for flouting DC gun laws last week with an exclusive
Following Obama's one-sided version of reality, Speaker of the House John Boehner went in front of the media to whine about Obama.
“Americans elected President Obama to lead, not cast blame," Boehner said in a Sunday statement. "The president’s comments today are ironic, as a recurring theme of our negotiations was his unwillingness to agree to anything that would require him to stand up to his own party. Needed cuts and reforms that the president agreed to just last year were no longer on the table, as he cited an inability to sell them to Democrats."Boehner continued: "Republicans made every effort to reach the ‘balanced’ deficit agreement that the president promised the American people, while the president has continued to insist on a package skewed dramatically in favor of higher taxes that would destroy jobs. We’ve been reasonable and responsible. The president is the one who has never been able to get to 'yes.'"
Shut up Mr. Speaker. Just SHUT UP.
I'd like to Boehner the benefit of the doubt and say this is his plan. The problem is, if it is his plan, it's a piss poor one.
Stop demanding the Obama "lead". He is leading! He won running on a tax hike for earners making $250,000. Does Boehner's idea of "leadership" include Obama unilaterally giving into the GOP even though by saying no to everything he gets what he wants automatically by going over the cliff (and as a bonus, he gets to blame Republicans for it)?
Obama maybe an idiot but he's not that stupid.
I can't tell if Boehner is stupid enough to believe that Obama wants some sort of compromise (spoiler, he doesn't) or he's too stupid to come up with a better counter message than whining like this.
In 1984 Ronald Reagan won with a much bigger mandate than Obama received this time around. Everyone loves to talk about how he a Tip O'Neil were able to come to a deal but that didn't just happen. O'Neil had a plan that involved actually making his case to the American people. So he put Dan Rostenkowski, Chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee on TV to respond to a Reagan speech. "Write Rosty" became a national catchphrase that enabled O'Neil to get in the game.
Boehner wants to follow Obama's lead but the reality is he needs to stop trying to be a follower and become the leader of the opposition. He's clearly not up to the task.

1) Leave the top to rates unchanged. Cut the rest 2% points
2) Strip the stimulus from the base line
3) 10% across the board reduction in discretionary spending.
Pass it. Send it to the Senate and let Obama explain why taxing the "rich" is more important than cutting taxes for the middle class.
I'm done with all of the big brains in the Republican party.

First, you say "Why can't Republicans play the PR game?"
Then when they do, you say "Why are Republicans playing the PR game, why don't they tell the unvarnished truth?"
"Write Rosty" did nothing. O'Neil got "in the game" for the same reason Obama can: (1) His appeal is emotional to who "gets" stuff, there is no math or reality and (2) He was perfectly happy with no deal.

Where does he get his talking points? Must be the trash can in a downtown gas station bathroom. I wonder how he got elected?
What he should have said is "Obama doesn't want a deal and if you people in the press would actually start questioning him instead of felating his balls you would see it".
But I guess that is too much to ask for.
Posted by: Vic at December 30, 2012 10:36 AM (53z96)
You're wrong. I've been arguing for awhile that we need to accept the modern facts of life and appeal to emotion. Telling voters they are making decisions on the wrong criteria is stupid and a guaranteed way to lose.
I want more PR sops, I just want effective ones.

I don't even know why anymore, but I am rooting for the cliff....er.....hump. I think it is just a better deal as far as expense cutting than we could ever get.
What Boehner needs to realize is that this is not a "crisis" where "something must be done", this can be solved in March or April and tax rates retroactive back to Jan. 1. If the repubs had any guts they would realize that and negotiate the best deal, but doing it in a day is stupid.
Nevertheless, 95% of the people in congress care about themselves, their power and their graft more than the country, so I expect a good hard backside boning for all of us about 10pm tomorrow night.

Because insisting on tying a debt hike to spending cuts with a Democratic Senate and Obama in the White House was idiotic. It was never going to produce anything we actually wanted.
Look at what we "won"....
-A two year extension of the tax cuts that put us here (should have been 1 year, 4 years or none).
-The cuts we're going to get are mostly in defense and don't touch entitlements.
How was signing on to that a good idea at the time or in hindsight?

If there are any true conservatives in congress left, all they have to say is 'obama wants middle class tax rates to go up' over and over. No matter the question. Someone in the MFM will show the video at some point.
It being true is just a side benefit.

Yeah all it would have taken is for Boehner to offer to hold the line on taxes on the top two rates and cut the rest even 1% point.
Then at every interview you repeat ad-infinitum that a base principle of the Republican Party is that we do not raise taxes period, we are a party of low taxation. We have given the middle class a tax cut why is it more important for the President to punish the rich than reward the middle class?
This really, really isn't very hard.
I am slowly coming around to the fact that the GOP really is in bed with the Democrat party to simply act as "opposition"
Nothing else can explain this level of gross incompetence!

It's only whining of Boehner can't get a bill passed in the House. If he compromised with Obama, and then the Senate shit the bed, let them own it. Pass a f*cking bill.
Boehner needs to put the blinders on, focus on POTUS and the House, and leave all Senate contingency considerations/permutations out of his pea-sized brain.
Pass a f*cking bill.

Should have followed Rand Pauls LIB strategy from the start.
Let Obama have everything.
Pubes in the Senate vote no.
Pubes in the house vote present.
Let the Dems own the flames.
Now we're gonna get virtually the same thing but the Pubes will own it.

Well now it time to let them have it. And then work on little pockets of America where the seeds to rebuild the whole are made. Work local when they want global. Then when the global goes down the seeds will be there.

The problem with giving the Dems everything they like is that they will increase spending and keep tax rates the same (except for those paid by job creators) in the name of "stimulus" thus creating an artificial bubble (or at least cushion) so that it can burst under someone else's watch. This is EXACTLY what happened with the mortgage meltdown. The GOP lost when they did not explain how that was all created on Clinton's watch. As a result the country just voted to do it all over again.
I think the best plan would be to just shut the government down for the next two years and see how things go from there. If you are going to get blamed then at least get blamed for doing something that has to be done... hold the line on spending and make the government live within its means since it can no longer borrow. Be the adults and end the reckless spending for at least a brief, shining moment of time. For once in their God forsaken lives just put the politics aside and do what has to be done... shut the thing down.
If you aren't willing to nuke the place like Obama is then you aren't going to win. He literally does not give a shit and the press will cover for him right up to the gates of hell and beyond.
