Blogger @johnekdahl: On social media, "Republicans are still rubbing sticks together".
— Laura Ingraham (@IngrahamAngle) November 12, 2012
It's already aired on the east coast because RINO!
But John found this west coast stream and said his segment should air around 1:30pm Eastern. And speaking of rubbing sticks together ...

If they want to be Democrats with a lighter touch, let them join the Dem party and run in their primaries
Lead, follow, or get out of the way
If the GOP just exists to be the punching bags for all the big government failures, then why bother?

I "get" social media, and I think most conservatives do too. I don't know if it's so much an issue that Republicans don't understand social media, but we treat it as an intrusion, not a utility.

All things considered, what's amazing is that they didn't get 17.5 million fewer votes.
On a positive note, we'll never have to debate the merits of a Mitt Romney candidacy again.
I'd like to think we'll never hear idiocy like "A ham sandwich would beat incumbent X, so let's nominate the flake!" again, but that would be too optimistic.

That's why I sometimes think it's all a joke that we have not been let in on.
We as Republicans have always wondered how we keep getting rolled time and again, how it seems that no matter how much the Donks screw everything up that not only does the GOP act as the fall guy they seem to seek this blame out.
Witness the financial meltdown, witness sequestration, etc.
Who do you think will get the blame for the impacts sequestration will have?
Do you think anyone in the GOP will disabuse the general public of this?
The GOP establishment is simply a witting patsy for the progressive agenda.
There can be no other explanation.

yeah, that's nothing. you could run down the social media threats for companies that dared let everyone know that after the election all hopes that obamacare could be rolled back were nuked so they were obliged to lay off staff. you could just scroll through the list of threats of wrongful termination lawsuits. it's hilarious that they think that you can litigate your way to profit trump all laws of microeconomics. a whole lot of businesses simply can't make a profit if they have to pay for obamacare mandates. just a bit of a note to liberals. if you can't make a profit in business, there is no point to continue. just where do the jobs come from?
Posted by: matt foley at November 12, 2012 08:41 AM (ES9kw)
I didn't hear the interveiw but social media hurt us. You can see that by the amount of young people that turned out. They live on facebook and all you need to do with those mushheads is have a dem operative convince them that everyone else is doing it and they will follow like lemmings
It's funny how they voted to increase their own debt though, maybe somebody from our side could have pointed out to them that the rich old white republicans will be dead and gone while they are trying to pay off the $20 Trillion left to them.
Posted by: robtr at November 12, 2012 08:41 AM (rTgOf)
I think the ORCA app and social media are not necessarily the same thing.
Social media will not overcome a deficit in the minds of the average voter that the GOP is old, racististy, and dummy-dummy. The problem isn't going to be overcome by being slightly more Twitter friendly or generating billions Facebook posts.
We don't have a gadget problem, we have a education problem.

That won't be easy. The same marchers in the Free Shit Army who are aghast that businessmen live well are not upset in the least that their favorite celebrity lives like royalty. One reason is the fantasy that their favorite celebrity loves them back. You'll get constant replies of "Katy Perry is so talented and works so hard, and she cares about people. Go watch the Time for Choosing speech.
There is no one in the current conservative/GOP intelligentsia or political class that could:
1) Write a speech of that magnitude
2) Deliver it with that passion and conviction.
The only person who could even remotely come close is Patrick Buchanan but his time has passed.

80 Wait, why not let states secede? I really don't see the problem.
So any state that has a slight majority of people who oppose the results of a national election should be allowed to secede? That would cause chaos and effectively end the U.S.

I really liked the point by John that this exact same program was attempted by the Dems in 2008, in which it also failed miserably.
I'm not against the idea of an electronic strike-list (I'm a developer and it sounds like an interesting project), but I think it is a fatal idea to centralize it. Instead, each county office should have its own server set up for receiving the data from its set of volunteers in the field. They then are given the responsibility alone for acting on that info... calling folks up, sending out volunteers to pick up voters who need rides, etc. Push the condensed data in the form of hourly reports to the State offices, who would be in the position to buy up last minute radio ads (not sure if possible) and similar measures. Having the central HQ involved (Bostson) should be a last resort. The higher ups needs to equip the local folks and trust them to do a good job on GOTV.
Also, a tried and true system of pencil and paper method has to be available and be able to work side-by-side the electronic. I'm thinking sheets of paper that have those square bar codes next to each name... pull a sticker off to reveal the bar-code, then back at headquarters they can use a bar-code-scanner to quickly import them into the system-database.

I'm sure as hell not going to suggest that Newt, Cain, Bachmann, Palin etc would've won where Romney lost. In all likelyhood, they'd have done even worse.
Point is, we can't underestimate our opponent and take for granted that because they're a fuckup, we can beat them no matter who we nominate.

The Facebook presence of Romney was a joke. No interaction with other users, just a stream of daily posts about jobs. Yeah we get it Mitt, you're about jobs. Now what else? How about an interactive app to show someone how your plan would help them? How about an app that shows a 25 year old how fucked they are with Social Security? How about forming sub pages like "Young Conservatives for Mitt" or "Women for Mitt" or "Hispanics for Mitt"? How about a Spanish FB page? How about a meetup presence and weekly meetings in towns/cities across the land every week to get volunteers energized?
Romney had NOTHING of the sort. Obama on the other hand maximized the use of social media. Some of it worked, some it didn't. But they were out there trying all sorts of things. Even that idiotic AttackWatch which was mocked was still effective in that it got his people to think of opposing ads in "attack watch" mode.
The sad part is in 2016 when Hillary will be using whatever the next big social media thing is, the Rubio/Bush campaign will be perfecting their Facebook strategy....only problem will be that facebook will be virtually extinct by then.

I would be opposed to secession myself, on the grounds that slavery, secession, and socialism are democrat policies and should stay that way. That having been said, if you think Obama would join you in Unionist outrage at the idea of say Southern CA seceding as a Free Azatlan or the native Hawaiians declaring their islands an independent republic, you are kidding yourself. The left wing would only be outraged if it was a red state trying to set up a model capitalist and liberty ordered nation. They don't want the competition.
