John Lovitz Talks to Megyn Kelly
— rdbrewer

At Mediaite.

[Lovitz] felt that spirit threatened by the attacks on rich people from the chief executive. “I said what a lot of people are thinking,” he told Kelly, and explained that “a lot of people are thanking me… they feel like they are being vilified because they are successful.” . . .

As for pushback, Lovitz went as far as saying it may have helped his career, and explained that he would “never tell anybody who to vote for.” “I think I’m a different kind liberal in that I think people should be true to themselves… if you’re Republican or Democrat or conservative, you should be that.” Saying he was not “qualified” to tell people who to vote for, he noted he had about 10,000 new twitter followers, and there, “people say you’re a racist, you’re a Nazi– I’m Jewish, I’m a Nazi now– I mean, that’s the most ridiculous thing i’ve ever heard!”

The John Lovitz Comedy Club and Podcast Theater is at Universal Studios. Just sayin'.

15 Every burst of a dam begins with a crack.

Or explosives.  But usually a crack.  Lovitz just blinked after a sledgehammer hit his worldview.  The inherent contradiction in leftism smacked him right upside the head.  He hasn't had nearly enough time to apply that realization across the board yet.

But, once something cracks and you acknowledge it, it's awfully damn hard to pretend the rest of the fantasy is still real.

There is hope for him yet. If he truly thinks he is not qualified to tell anyone else who to vote for, then he is not a leftist/Liberal. Those never have any problem at all telling everyone just how to behave/what to eat/who to vote for.

17 Remember when Occupy Wall Street was sweeping the nation? The media branded it the leftÂ’s answer to the Tea Party, the start of a grand national mobilization; depending on who you ask, half of America once supported the OWS protestors, double the amount who back the Tea Party. The Huffington Post even launched a separate page devoted entirely to coverage of OWS.

How the mighty have fallen. The New York Times may still be trying to perform mouth to mouth resuscitation on the decomposing OWS corpse, attributing continuing policy influence sans evidence of any kind to a movement that has all but completely disappeared, but compared to the Tea Party, except for the media hype, OWS was a political flop.

Posted by: huerfano at May 16, 2012 11:29 AM (bAGA/)

29 Lovitz isn't deep-thinking his politics, but Obama's class warfare was enough to set him off. I'm sure Lovitz is a social liberal, and probably not a guy who likes to think of himself as political, but when he's trying to run a business and sees how they're simultaneously taking what he makes and lambasting him for it not being more, he gets shaken out of the happy cocoon because it's so obviously not right.

32

It's an interesting case study.

Lovitz is clearly caught up in a lot of the phoney feel-good crapola, and general tribalism, but he has also finally noticed that his "team" is actually demonizing him.

So, instead of waking up to the fact that they are his enemies, he stands confused. He complains bitterly, thinking that perhaps if he speaks out it will change them.  He reminds me of the new bride, who develops new expectations of her spouse, and expects to "change him", completely ignoring who he was when they got married.

Sorry, Jon, but you're pissing in the wind. That's WHO THEY ARE.  In fact, it is at the very CORE of who they are. You only hurt yourself by supporting them. You're what they call a "useful idiot".

47 The thing here is that he's talking about it.  Jon Lovitz is not "no one."  People know who he is, or at least, that he is, so when he starts pointing out the equipped wardrobe deficiencies in our President, people don't immediately cry "WINGNUT!"

Well, except the usual suspects, but that's not really surprising.

It means that "normal people" can sit back and say: "Wait a minute, he's right.  Why work hard if the Government is going take all that away?  And yet the Government wants me to work hard.  I smell a rat."

It doesn't matter if he votes for Obama, or doesn't vote.  He will almost certainly be responsible for other people not voting for Obama in November.

Posted by: AllenG (Dedicated Tenther) Channelling Breitbart at May 16, 2012 11:35 AM (8y9MW)

48 @32 Yep, he's right at the very beginning of the process of waking up.

It's encouraging.  People don't change overnight.  It took me years, but it started with little chips in the indoctrination.

I voted for Clinton both times, but interestingly enough, while living in Chicago in 1996, I used to listen to Mancow Muller on the way to work every day.  He had a featured segment called "The Truth."  That's where I think it started.

By 1998, I wanted Clinton impeached and out of office.  In 2000, I voted for Dubya.

It takes time to shake off the sleepiness, and that's when your career isn't a direct correlation with how left-wing you are.

That sort of dichotomy is VERY obvious and will have an impact.

70 Jon Lovitz is just an example of someone who pokes his head out of the sand for a moment, sees things for what they are, gripes about it, then shoves his head back in. ----- That describes just about every entrenched GOP politico whose favorite refrain is "not the hill to die on." Lovitz is an entertainer. He's well-off financially, but he's still working in that field. I'm sure most of his friends and family members are Liberals and Progressives. This is about all I would expect of him. How much have the entertainers who we're all told are conservatives or libertarians really done? Chuck Norris, whom I don't really follow (and of whom I'm not really that big of a fan), is probably one of the few who has pounded the pavement on the campaign trail. The people who are letting us down are the ones we've elected. Anything we get out of these private citizens is gravy.

The left hated Guiliani and called him a Nazi YEARS before 9/11, all because he was actually successful at cleaning up a big part of NYC, resulting in the "Disneyfication of Times Square" (remember that phrase?). They would have preferred the Adult Movie theaters, shooting galleries and porn shops remain at the center of the city.

Now her boss cut another 8 hours off her schedual because she had cliamed partial unemployment. She got a note today that said, they were taking away the hours because since she is getting UI it shouldnt be a hardship.. WTF????

So her boss is attempting to unload her pay rate off onto unemployment? That's how it looks to me.  Also that may fall under a retaliation prohibition, I'd have her call her state labor dept. to advise of this.

Oh troll who thinks that unemployment has nothing to do with taxes, c'mere.  I'm in the mood to kick something in the teeth.

My Bberry 9330 seems to have finally bitten the big one. Trackpad/cursor completely immobile/unresponsive all day. Did everything from replacing OS to the top 5 "troubleshooting" bullshit tips. About to throw it through a mother-flippin' wall but my wife is traveling and I need to keep all my contact info. at least potentially accessible.

117 77>> Any of you people in Sales? You're not doing it right.<<< I'd be interested in seeing a Venn diagram of those who are excoriating Lovitz for not repudiating Obama to their satisfaction, With the group of Rabid Romney Haters who continuously complain that no one is licking their balls sufficiently to get them to vote for Mitt. I'm thinking there's a fuck-tonne of overlap.

124 EoJ, yeah. I worked in retail for years, and there's a distinct personality that craves the "hard sell" even when they have no intention (or every intention) of buying. There's a definitely subset of that group in the political realm.

125 For beating the crap out of Andy Dick, John Lovitz will always be a hero in my eyes. Repeatedly bounced his face off the bar is what I read. That goes a long way for me. If he had then taken him like a Viking, it would have been +100.

126 Prayers for you and your Anna, Forger. I nursed my late first wife through two bouts of two different cancers. It's forty miles of hard country road. It will get better once you know exactly what you are dealing with.

I respect him for his dissent, lukewarm as it may be. The rash of crap he got for it is a small indicator of the environment in LA.

I think Lovitz is one of these liberals who, as a non-conservative, has never born the brunt of all the hate before.  Now he's seeing what we've been seeing for years and he's a little shocked. The vitrol for a little thing like telling the truth is hard to believe.

Also for raising Phil Hartman's kids

Really?  I didn't know that. Good for him.
