John McCain...Citizens United Decision Shows Supreme Court Is "Uninformed, Arrogant, Naive"
— DrewM

When I hear John McCain talking about someone being "uninformed, arrogant, naive" I figure he's talking about his approach to the First Amendment or his daughter Meghan.

Alas, no.

Question for Senator Maverick, if corporations (aka, individuals freely associating with one another) don't have First Amendment rights, why does NBC, the corporate owner of the show you were appearing on, enjoy them? Or do you think the government can regulate the speech of NBC and its programs?

From what I've read, Senator McCain's father and grandfather were good military officers. Both were poor students at the Naval Academy but were effective officers in WWII. There is an old saw about what happens to the generations in a successful family. The grandfather is very successful, his son is also successful, the next one is spoiled and entitled. The next in line, look at Meaghan, borderline retarded. Sorry for using the word, retarded, but read the semi-literate crap she writes. Senator McCain, purveyor of McCain-Feingold should be ridiculed and derided with zeal. The idea that money can be removed from politics is ludicrous. The harder you try, the more secretive it becomes. What a disgraceful sham. I say let anyone contribute any amount to any candidate but publish every transaction in a master registry posted on the web. All politicians are beholden to their funders. If we know who, we can better judge how to choose which candidate will better serve whatever cause motivates us to vote. As for contesting McCain in the primary, J.D. Hayworth challenged in 2010, but McCain overcame and is all set as a party elder until 2016 when he will be 80 years old.

Think of McCain's comments this way:

The Supreme Court is about to hand down a decision on ACA (Affordable Care Act,  aka ObamaCare).  McCain is positioning himself this very moment to get called onto the talk shows to represent the "Republican" position, or else the "Maverick" position.  He's such an ego hound, he just can't bear it.

McCain was just re-elected in 2010, so he won't be up again until 2016, when he will be about 78 years old, and he should just retire. I've heard about enough.

113 Oh you have got to be FKM with this shit! Now they're dragging out the Kennedy clan.

Friend --

I grew up in the White House. I remember as a small child visiting my father in the Oval Office while he worked.

But really, we could have been growing up in any American home. We were just children, happy to see our dad -- even if he was stepping out of a helicopter that had landed on our front lawn.

That's why, on Father's Day, I'm thinking of Michelle Obama and the girls, and the time they'll get to spend with the President as a family.

I can appreciate how long the days can be -- and how wonderful it feels to know that, no matter how full your father's plate is, you're the best part of his day and the most important part of his life.

So I'm joining Michelle and others all around the country to wish the President a happy Father's Day.

As you acknowledge a special father figure in your own life, I hope you'll join me by adding your name to tell Barack how much he means to all of us:

Thanks, and happy Father's Day to every dad out there.

124 "If Exxon Mobile or Walmart or ATT decides to put all it's monetary assets into a Presidential election or city councilman race, that's their business. Why can't McCain grasp that simple fact?" The answer is: It makes an incumbent less likely to be re-elected. And John McCain is about John McCain ... not American principles, American freedom, the Constitution, or anything else. All he's ever been about is John McCain. As long as Republicans allow anti-rights individuals such as John McCain to be invited to parties, and be above criticism, and be welcome in the party, the party can't be taken seriously as the protector of American freedom. John McCain is a fucking scumbag. He is the only person who ever made me sorry that Vietnamese prison guards weren't better at their jobs.

McLame  states in the video that old, tired, OWS'er tinged trope that "the system is broken."

The  system is fine, it's the people in it who can't understand the founding Principles   that's the problem. Corruption isn't  wasn't built into "the system," it was designed to be operated by folk with intelligence, honor, and a sense of true citizenship. Hence Franklin's famous quote answering the question of what kind of government   had been crafted  at the Constitutional Convention: "A republic, if you can keep it."

It doesn't look like we can, as evidenced by all the feckless crapweasels  currently in office,  including McLame.

FWIW, Romney is in Newark (Ohio) and just finished his speech a few minutes ago.

Had I known that he was showing up nearby I would have gone but I didn't know about it until I hopped in the rig a while ago and turned on the country station that broadcast his speech.

It was about 12 minutes long and kind of meh. It's probably the same speech he gives everywhere he goes but with a couple local shout outs.

It sounded like Ann was getting heckled when she was introducing him but it was hard to tell because the audio was kind of sucky at the beginning.

If she was getting heckled by some tard I'm pretty sure there was a biker nearby that put him in a headlock right quick!

Listening to the same women now, the election will not be a close as predicted, and absent significant voter fraud (that I am very fearful of), Romney will win big.  The more Obama gives televised speeches, the less these women like him.

I hope you didn't actually pay for that class, Conrad Kelly, because they taught you (or, at least, you learned) a lot of shite. First Amendment: Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances. Indeed, it explicitly treats "freedom of speech" and "the press" as two separate items, dividing them with that ever useful conjunction "or". You know, conjunctions? Used to connect separate parts of a sentence? Sheesh.

While I have no "hero" in politics (I guess Abraham Lincoln would fit, but he ain't running this year), I have noticed for decades that many voters need a "nemesis" to get them activated. Together, we’ve stood resolute; unwavering in our commitment to advance this movement and to build a more perfect union.” lovely, this faux potus, eh?

257 I'm having a hard time trying to understand what McCain's goal really is.  People should be able to put as much money into campaigns as they wish, in my opinion.  MONEY doesn't equal votes.  Had McCain raised just as much money as Obama, there would likely have been the same result.

Some reforms I WOULD like to see:

1. Candidates may not make loans to their own campaigns.  They may DONATE as much as they wish, but not lend.  Candidates lending to their own campaigns creates a situation where they use the campaign fund to create a long-term income stream and divert political donations directly into their own pocket via interest payments on the loan.  They can intentionally pay "interest only" on the loan and hold their own loan as the last thing ever paid off by the campaign.

2.  Campaign donations under $1000 should be anonymous.  Only campaign donations or totals to one campaign over the course of one election cycle should be reported.  There is no reason an employer should be able to research your donation history at opensecrets.org to determine your political leanings before hiring you.  While this isn't a big deal in a large portion of a country, where I live there are many "progressive" companies that consider themselves to be somewhat "activist" in various ways that might consider such information in their hiring.

258 Yes buzzion, you again prove your very important point. Nobody can support any cause or candidate without being a sycophant or boot-licker. Because anyone who doesn' t agree with you must be lacking in some way. YOU ARE NEVER WRONG.

259 Is it even remotely possible that this 800,000 hispanic coup could down tick the unemployment number in SCoaMF's favor? Another piece at CNS.com mentions this for "immigrant," but if you pay attention to job descriptions and talk to people looking for work, the "minorities" have an advantage, and "speaking English" is often a requirement for many jobs. Here is an excerpt: "The unemployment rate for foreign-born workers in the United States is lower than the unemployment rate for native-born workers, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS). The BLSÂ’s non-seasonally adjusted data show that unemployment among foreign born workers in May 2012 was 7.4 percent, while for native-born workers it was 8.0." It also says this, however: "The data further show that while the working-age immigrant population in the United States has increased since Barack Obama became president in January 2009, immigrant participation in the labor force has declined."

260 Yeah keep talking Lincoln.  That will really get people to go out there with even more enthusiasm.    But what do I know since I'm obviously going to spend 6 months spewing Romney hate, since  I clearly don't support him and am apparently going to not vote for him.

It has nothing to do with numbers and everything to do with wealth redistribution and purchasing D votes.

The only things Obama has  accomplished in his entire life are centered around his belief that the 'landed class' or 'producers' stole from the poor (read: minorities) and they need to 'share the wealth'.

That's why I have been calling him Affirmative Action Jackson since day one.   It is ALL he understands.

262 All donations should be anonymous. If you say 1000 someone else will say 900 and on we go. Who is right. Political freedom of speech should be pretty absolute.

If anything Mccain should be more pissed at Barky than the Supreme ct.

Barky signed a piece of paper saying he would accept public money, just like Mccain, as soon as Barky realised he could raise a whole heck of a lot more, that signature meant nothing. Anyone who trust Barky on any issue at any time needs their head examined, the jerk's words, spoken or written mean nothing. But I guess Mccain's being a "maverick" attacking the supreme ct.

265 Which brings me to my point which is we should be grateful Paul supporters didn't go all third party

YET! They are still out there in big numbers, the more reasonable first timers are working very hard right alongside the fanatics. Point is the more reasonable among em can be convinced to go ABO,IF THEY ARE NOT COMPLETELY DISRESPECTED, or Paul still does not go third party, which he will not with Rand endorseing Mitt. At this point they control my states party apparatus and delegates! I have talked to them enough to know that when Dr Paul gets the attention he wants and concessions he wants at the convention they will get on board the Romney train. If however they are treated like the first of three wives crazy step child they will go back where they came from and NOT VOTE like they did before RP riled them up. In short we need em we need all hands on deck. I did my homework on these guys and many did not vote voted sparingly, or voted D in the past, NEW BLOOD!

Truce Lincolntf?

I'm sure this thread is long dead, but "Irregardless, I have correctly enunciated what the Constitution holds and you have not offered any reasonable alternative interpretation."

There's no such damned word as "irregardless!"

280 Well, the last thing I remember before I stripped and kneeled
Was that trainload of fools bogged down in a magnetic field.
A gypsy with a broken flag and a flashing ring
Said, "Son, this ain't a dream no more, it's the real thing."

281 Finally have some time for me.  Going over headlines and struck by the "Pouffe grilled by crowley" headline and the "Pouffe grilled by wallace" headline, both from the blaze.  Makes you wonder if people are ignoring the news as they don't believe or trust a thing they report anymore.  Thus they are pretending to hold the administration accountable via the "grilling" of said operative to convince the dummies out there that they have not failed their mission.  This way they can continue not to report anything of import.

Sad really.  They must really feel the blogsphere and talk radio breathing down their necks.

282 Gee, when I read "Uninformed, Arrogant, Naive" I thought Sen. Fuck-the-First-Amendment was talking about his own incompetent general election campaign where his opponent used his McCain- Feingold law against him successfully.
