— Ace Lovitz is surprised at the criticism he's getting--

Another good, sensible tweet at the link, where he proclaims the economy isn't "Democrat or Republican," it's "business and math." Or "profits and earnings ratio," as the Idiot King might say.
Here's a telling Tweet by Lovitz:
@AstroNerdBoy I have blasted Bush…. in my stand up act.. no one commented on it, though.—
Jon Lovitz (@realjonlovitz) April 29, 2012
Well, that's probably not true. I'm sure some conservatives did comment on it. But then, Lovitz didn't hear it. The Two Minute Hate wasn't declared.
He attempts to define "liberal" to non-liberals. And I don't mean conservatives. I mean what's typically termed "liberal," now, but is as illiberal as you can be.
@BowedOak excuse me… the President is lying… I just pointed it out. It's not my fault he's lying.—
Jon Lovitz (@realjonlovitz) April 29, 2012
I haven't gotten any backlash. I am a Democrat and liberalÂ…Liberal, from the word "Liberty"
Freedom to be who you are..—
Jon Lovitz (@realjonlovitz) April 29, 2012
...be it conservative, democrat, republican, libertarian..
liberal.. freedom to be true to yourselfÂ…
that's what liberal means.—
Jon Lovitz (@realjonlovitz) April 29, 2012@HesDanTheMan I don't mind paying a little more. I pay my fair share now. The President is lying to get votes..it's obvious and transparent.—
Jon Lovitz (@realjonlovitz) April 29, 2012@LawyerGraham @AP
well, you've proven my point. you believe the propaganda. I know what I am paying in taxes. You are being lied to.—
Jon Lovitz (@realjonlovitz) April 29, 2012I was upset with the President LYING. I pay my fair share of taxes and so does everyone else I know who is in the same tax bracket.—

That's the thing, though: this is showing support for Mittens: much more than his single vote would. By pulling back the covers a little bit, and showing the world that Obama is a lying crapweasle (and I'm glad he stuck to the word "lying,"), he's making it OK for the mushy middle not to be excited about Obama anymore.

It's a teachable moment. And you'd think, since he's friends with Dennis Miller, that he would have known what was coming. I like that he's genuinely surprised. I think a lot of libs get surprised at the reaction when they criticize the cult.
Hell, I don't want Lovitz to support Romney. I want him to reveal liberalism.
He thought he could speak freely, people would disagree and then move on.

I'm not really sure WTH his point is. How can you bitch about 'lying Obama' and his claim he's not paying his fair share and then say you're an out-and-out liberal. Liberalism goes hand-in-hand with the 'not paying-ones-fair-share' bit. He doesn't get to have it both ways.

Liberals cannot be reasoned with. That is the first mistake. No matter what you say to a liberal (no matter how rational) the liberal will never change. I never expect liberals think rationally.

I have no doubt that celebrities, living in the bubble, had no idea who or what Obama really was in 2008. I've seen a couple of folks, like Lovitz and Huffington, say negative things about Obama and be crucified (figuratively) for "not saying it back in 2008". Look, alot of smart people were fooled by Obama in 2008. He was an empty vessel and many people projected their notions of what an intelligent, black liberals lawyer would be and do once he got into office. Friends of mine were fooled (and I ridiculed them mercilessly at the time, because like most of you who had done their homework, I knew exactly what Obama was)- however, several of the staunches Obama supporters from 08 are waking up and seeing the light- "are you better off now than you were 4 years ago"- the majority of them will admit they are not better off. I've been saying for 6 months or so, I think Obama has lost most of his "independent" base and unless said voter has some kind of wedge issue which trumps everything else (gay marriage, reproductive "rights", abortion, etc), you will see alot of people who voted for Obama in 08, either staying home, or very very quietly, voting for Mitt Romney.

Read his tweets- he's still under (not sure how, but he is) the naive assumption that "Liberals" are "for liberty." He's wrong, of course, but there you are. And his statements allow people who were "kind of not quite ready to quit on Obama, but weren't real comfortable with things" to say, "Yeah, I'm not going to vote for a liar!" or whatever.

Proggs want to limit every single aspect of your life--your home, your food, your children, your travel, what you can read/hear on the radio--but they encourage you to fuck anyone you want in any way you want with no limits or consequences or bad feelings, so they must be advocating "freedom", or something.

He's like a buddy of mine who's also a business owner - ardent Democrat and Obama supporter. Chimes in with all the usual Jon Stewart-level of understanding of politics and the economy, but when you get him complaining about his business, you'd think you were talking to a staunch Republican.
The culture has a very strong grip on people's voting habits. It's why I'm a little (but only a little) encouraged to see things like this because it means the left's stranglehold on the culture may not be ironclad.
If there's any hope of this guy turning to our side, sadly it will be because of the hatred and intolerance of his own side, not because of the intellectual search it should have been.

It's usually when stars get older, and look back at what they've earned over their lifetimes....and then look at what they've got left, that they start to change their views about being taxed so much.
But yeah...he doesn't make as much as the bigger stars. Never has. ....But if he is paying 'half', like he is railing about, then he's in the top bracket. ....But then, that's the thing, half of $50 million, is still a lot....whereas, half of $1 million, is only $500K, so you can start out being a 'millionaire'....and after taxes, not be.

If you recall, the late comic actor Phil Hartman was shot by his wife (a troubled drug addict), who then killed herself. They had two kids.
Jon Lovitz has been raising Phil's two kids as his own, which is why since the late 90's , he has not been such a big deal on TV and movies. He has taken time out to take care of his friends' children, to give them some kind of life.
Liberal, classical liberal, Democrat, whatever. He is not coming over to the right, he will be where he is. He may not vote in the fall election (which is one less vote for SCOAMF). But he, like a lot of Democrats who think of themselves as "liberal", are decent human beings. He is insulted about being lied about.

Yeah, he doesn't strike me as one of those who frittered away his money when he got good movie roles or a good TV gig.
In the audio clip he says the comedy club is his. So he doesn't just draw a paycheck, perhaps he has to make payroll, pay taxes, follow regulations, and the plethora of other requirements for running a business.
Maybe that is why he is waking up.
Could be. Even if it's making money, it's a huge headache for him. Or he pays somebody a lot of money to take the headaches off his hands.

Freedom to be who you are."
Well sure! You're free to be who you are...just as long as you agree with the socialist agenda.
I resent the hell out of the Left's outright THEFT and redefinition of the word liberal. WTF in the entire Leftist worldview except what you do with your genitalia has anything to do with freedom and liberty?

Those aren't mutually exlusive. When I turned after 911, what jarred me into that intellectual search WAS the hatred and intolerance of the left.

Jon, Jon, Jon, Jon, Jon...
You just don't get it do you? It isn't a matter of "liberty" or
"freedom of speech" at issue here. You have the liberty to criticize
Republicans or Conservatives. You can
even criticize libertarians if we donÂ’t need them and they are white
males. You NEVER criticize a member of
the party elite in good standing.
Your foolish clinging to outdated ideals enshrined in a piece of paper just shows how you are not a team player here. The name of the game is “Power over the people” and the only allowable outcome is “winning.” That means you don’t criticize whatever trained monkey we have running for whatever office. Why do you think we keep running idiots like Pelosi and Reid? They are well trained monkeys who will vote any way we tell them to. Just like we picked Joe Biden as Vice President to make barack look Presidential.
Get with the program! People NEVER pay their “fair share” look at Tim Geithner, for Gaia’s sake! That man only paid in his taxes because the press was dumb enough to actually admit he owed money. Do you think we get rich by paying what we really owe? Nobody does! Everyone is a tax cheat, that’s why we have to raise them higher to cover the costs of funneling more money into our pet projects! We have votes to buy!
Quite pretending your special and get back in line, you peasant. You will spout whatever line we give you and like it!

"All the comedians are glad I did it because this guy is an asshole," says Lovitz. "I'm not proud of it... but he's a disgusting human being."
Well okay then. Maybe there is hope for this Jon Lovitz fellow.

He isn't necessarily important by himself, but him fighting back could prove very interesting depending on what happens to him and his club after this.
I figure some big Dems in Hollywood may decide to make an example of him to show what happens when you don't tow the party line, but that has a chance of backfiring on them.

I think that happened to many people. What does bother me, though, is the fact that a whole generation of young people have grown up that were just toddlers when 9/11 happened and have, thanks to our education system, a warped veiw of what really happened. Many of these "youts" are OWSers.

I didn't know that either, but it makes sense in hindsight.
Lovitz and Hartman were like brothers, as I'm pretty sure they went back to the Groundlings in the early 80s before they joined SNL in the middle of that decade.

The democratic party is much more left wing than it used to be.
Oh yeah. The Overton Window has been moved so far to the left during my lifetime that it's literally breathtaking.
Not so many years ago, if you had brought up the notion thst mankind could influence the weather, you'd have been laughed out of the bar and charged double for sounding like an idiot.

141 - Agreed, and a lot of the people I went to college with are still what I call "default liberals" like I was. Liberal because they've never thought to be otherwise. They've never thought to be otherwise because our educational system, entertainment and popular culture is dominated by the left.
What I think though, Soona, is there will be more 911 moments for people to wake up to, and I don't mean a terrorist attack on a major city, but something that is enough to make you start asking hard questions and becoming brave enough to accept the actual answers.

I agree to take "liberal" away from them with its connotations of freedom. And yet "progressive" is so wrong! I'll always have to use it with quotation marks which is a hassle, but I won't call someone who's marching backwards a "progressive" without some nod to irony.
