Jon Lovitz On Obama: "What a F***ing A**hole"
— Ace

Awesome.

Oh, that's the ever-douchier and less relevant Kevin Smith arguing with him with his fake "Hey mannn, I'm just a gentle hippie" bullshit.

Lovitz nails him on this act by pointing out Kevin Smith's favorite word is "monetize."

Is he really liberal?  I mean, I guess I figured he was on the Left but I've never heard him be overtly political and certainly not partisan.

He is probably immune from Hollywood.  He seems to get a couple of bit parts every year.  He doesn't seem to be in with the culture, I know he was distraught after Phil Hartman died and was furious at Andy Dick.

Obama is such a disaster that people who care more about being honest with themselves rather than being partisan just can't manage it.

In the clip he says, "...and I'm a Democrat and I voted for the guy..." so... yes: he's liberal.

Actually, he may only think he's liberal.  Like the game Mark Davis likes to play, "Are you really a liberal?"  Step one: provide one controversial/divisive liberal position you are proud to hold.

I think Adam, although not a megastar, is so likeable and easy to work with that he can be outspoken as long as he isn't a dick about it (and he isn't).  And I think, at least for TV, having a popular, outspoken, likeable conservative is a plus.  We tend to watch things with Drew Carey, Patricia Heaton, Adam Baldwin, Kelsey Grammer, etc. in them.

60 Doing a quick and dirty tax on him assuming he makes about $250,000 a year doing SNL and living in NY single he would not pay 50% in taxes. He would pay about $77,000 in combined State and Federal income taxes.  That is about 31%.  Throw in another 10% (self-employed) for SS and Medicare and that makes it 41%.

Now I am sure a good tax accountant can knock that back a great deal,

Posted by: AnonymousDrivel at April 23, 2012 01:38 PM (eHIJJ)

68 One of the problems I have with the whole "fair share" debate is we never really talk about who benefits from government spending. If the Tax Foundation is to be believed, once you get up past $135K in annual income, you are paying in more in income tax than you get out in the benefits from income tax. So, if you're in the 1%, you're paying in far more than you'd ever get in benefits. Obvious exceptions would be the politically-connected cronies who benefit directly from sweetheart deals with the Feds. But do you think Jon Lovitz uses a ton of government services? I doubt it, so why should he be subsidizing others' use? I don't need him to subsidize me. As far as I'm concerned, he already pays more than his "fair share" as defined by actual use of the goods and services income tax revenue purchases.

Good stuff. I'd really like to get closure on that LL Cool J anecdote, though.

99 93 Kevin Smith, who I have actually liked at times, is nothing but a big pussy in this. Lovitz was making some excellent points and Smith just wanted him to stop talking about Obama and the Democrats. He couldn't bring himself to criticize "The One". This from the rebel of Hollywood who claims not to care what anyone thinks of him.

The entire monolog was about federal income tax but I thought I would add all of the income taxes and SS for conservatism.  Sure, if you count up every stinking tax there is in NY State he is probably paying well above 50%.

Hell, before I retired I was paying over 50% in total taxes here in SC which is a so-called "low tax State" and I did not make $250K a year. .

119

This is the start of something I think we are going to see much more of.  The criticism of Obama will begin or end with these words:  "I voted for the guy."

This will be done to lend credibility to the criticism of Obama.  As Ace has pointed out, people need to come to certain conclusions on their own.  And people generally don't want to admit a mistake.  Rather than simply admit they made a mistake they will say "And I voted for the guy."  As if to say, look I gave him every chance in the world, I like him, but he has really screwed up.

Conservatives are probably best served by simply letting them make this criticism without following it up with an "I told you so" or "You should have known better."

The more we hear the line "And I voted for the guy" the better Mitt's chances.  In fact, I could see a Weekend Update routine - "And I voted for the guy."

"Obama sure seems a lot like Bush when it comes to executive power, And I voted for the guy."

"The racial tension in this country sure has increased since Obama took office, And I voted for the guy."

183 From the NYC tax page

Personal Income Tax

New York City charges a personal income tax to City residents. The tax is administered and collected by the New York State Department of Taxation and Finance for the City.

Who must pay this Tax?

Every income-earning individual, estate and trust residing in New York City must pay personal income tax. Part-year residents figure their tax based on income and deductions on the days lived in NYC.

Most people living outside the City are not subject to NYC personal income tax. However, non-city residents who are Employees of New York City must file Form 1127 and pay taxes each year. The amount is equal to the personal income tax they would owe if they were City residents.

Say, maybe Lovitz should follow in the footsteps of another SNL alum - Dennis Miller.  Both are too old to ever be considered edgy or hip.  But both are remembered by a generation of fans of being part of a pretty good SNL run. And it turns out that that generation is in or about to enter in to their prime earning years.  Statistically, this is the peak conservative that generation should be - overcoming their youthful idealness, but not old enough to where they are about to suckle from the government teet. If Lovitz wants to make money, this kind of comedy seems to be better than Louis CK.

266 Obama is a stuttering clusterf*ck of a miserable failure.

Posted by: steevy at April 23, 2012 03:16 PM (7W3wI)

267 Woah, Kevin Smith sounds a lot like Dave Attell. I didn't read the description and just assumed it *was* Dave Attell, and I was thinking, "why isn't Dave Attell saying anything funny?". But it was some other jerk.

268 233 It's probably already been mentioned, but I'm pretty sure Adam Baldwin and Alec Bsldwin aren't related. Posted by: BeckoningChasm at April 23, 2012 06:25 PM (i0App) I could have sworn that Big Hollywood had a conversation with him around the time of the airplane incident, and he said that they don't talk much right now, but that he prays for him a lot. Seemed to be saying that a big part of their rift was about Adam being "born again", and Alec didn't like that too much. but, yeah. they are pretty definitely brothers.

269 hayseeds. youre not gonna do jack in November, the president will be re-elected to finish the job and youre all gonna sit down obediently like good little girls and finish your soggy cereal. damm spoiled brats.

270 OK Lovitz gets a meek golf-clap for at least saying something.  I'd still like to hear one O-voter from Hollywood (or anywhere) say: "I voted for him, and I regret it.  I was lazy and just wanted to fit in.  I compromised my own principles that for my whole life I was to lazy to figure out that I had in the first place.  I didn't take the five fucking minutes on google to see that this guy is an America-hating race-baiting commie."  Then, I'll give the guy credit for seeing the light.  Until then I'll just assume he will forget his whole rant and vote D again.

****

You're thinking of Stephen Baldwin.

The brothers are Alec, Billy, Daniel, and Stephen.

Adam is unrelated.

272 >> they wouldn't ban, they will just keep raising taxes on them, make it hard to be a smoker but they they aren't going to ruin a good thing. That'd make sense IF leftists realized that taxes tend to have a "sweet spot" that optimizes revenue. But they don't. Instead, it's "Hey, if we double the tax we'll make twice as much!" Shortly followed by "Wha hoppen?" or, more frequently, "It's Dubya's fault."

275 OMG, this was hilarious!!!  Anything that can make me laugh 1/2 hour after spending $400 on my fuckin' cat (who, goes without saying, is very precious to me, but still), that is some funny shit right there.

If you're talking about the Bruins, I liked the Sunday game better . . .  If you mean the Yanks-Sox, well, the best thing about it was the interruption to show the last few innings of that spectacular perfect game in Seattle (home of the punk'd, sportswise).  So far, in the long dark night of "no football," though, my absolute fave has been Bubba Watson and his sheer, fucking awesomeness.

Speaking of Jon Lovitz, he was great in "A League of Their Own."

Good flick although I'm not sure if I can watch it again what with Rosie being Rosie.

I am a Yankees fan. I have always bee a Yankees fan. I will always be a Yankees fan.

There is no other sport other than baseball, and the highest expression of that sport is beating the Red Sox.

285 I loved this bit. I've always liked Lovitz, and this back and forth with Smith proves that he is not just some kind of TV klown who reads lines on cue. He knows what he is talking about. He and Phil Hartman will always be my favorite SNL guys.

286 Wow, welcome to reality Lovitz.  Gee Lovitz you didn't know Obama was a Socialist who was going to re-distribute you wealth?  He told you so during the campaign I guess now you're hoping to have some change left in your pocket.
