— andy The experts who constantly guess wrong thought we'd create 90,000 jobs in June. We created 80,000.
Unemployment rate holds at 8.2%. Jim Pethokoukis calculated that the headline rate would be 10.9% if the labor force participation rate from January 2009 (Obama's inauguration) had held constant. Also, the broader U-6 rate ticked up a little to 14.9%.
So as you can see, Recovery Summer III is well underway.
[Update] @politicalmath created this interesting heat map of employment by industry.

So all the angst regarding the Ohio polls. I'm starting to get the feeling that a number of them are being purposely spun to bring shift the RCP average toward Obama.
As I asked CAC last week, can anyone name one single poll that is reliably oversampling Republicans?
No problem, I can wait...
Still looking? No problem...
Yeah, like I said, if the only one you can even consider naming is Rasmussen, who has one of the best historical accuracy ratings, then clearly the averages are being skewed in one direction. It's just math.
In 2008 I spent almost the entire campaign season in Los Angeles. At this point in the process, the Obama bumperstickers could be found on every 10th or 20th car. I was in LA last week and driving all over for 5 days straight. I didn't see a single Obama 2012 sticker. Not on Wilshire, not in Santa Monica, not in Orange County, not even on the 91 and 105 as I skirted Compton.
But Obama has increased his 2008 support in Ohio by 5 points? Color me skeptical.

We brought a red Jeep decked out with flags and our signs, a banner, American flags to hand out, and we gave all the kids on route Steinhof toothbrushes. We busted out the new t-shirts and handed out the new push card warning people that we broke away from a monarchy, and don't vote for another one. Oh, and we had a whole teenage dance school with us. We brought our own fucking parade. You should have heard the little staffers complaining!

The only thing that will be roaring in the Obama economy is IRS agent hiring.
In fact the Romney campaign should frame ObamaCare/RobertCare in a 1984/apple commercial manner. Where we are suffering under the watchful eye of the "agents" ala the Matrix, the first movie anyway.
I think that may resonate pretty well.

I think he is right, for the most part. Except, I wouldn't count heath care insurance even though it is a tax in other countries. The same reasoning could justify including the cost of gas or groceries as taxes.
But, the underlying premise is spot-on: Far too much of our money either goes to the government or goes to quasi-monopolies propped up by the government. For shit-all in services and return.

You're probably right at the moment, but doesn't the Mandate kick in in Jan '14? At that point, it moves solidly over to the "tax" category (since you can no longer choose to avoid it). You can still avoid both gas and grocery expenses if you so choose. If you choose to do so with some industry and forethought, you won't even starve.

The electorate is currently 45% who want to become Europe and keep the socialism rolling (including lifelong Dems who would vote for Satan if the DNC ran a commercial for him), 45% people who know the country is heading off a cliff and want to save it, and 10% people who know they need to make a decision, but hate making decisions and are going to keep their head under a blanket until they have to do something.
So I look at all of this crap that is happening to us, and the "Romney is a corporate raider" crap that Obama is tossing out there and wonder, what is going to sway the procrastinators in October when they finally make a decision? I'm pretty confident that 90% of them will vote for Romney and the other 10% will go back to bed.

If only we could build a huge fence around that place - cuz you know that when it all starts to crash hard the libtard rats will jump ship and contaminate other states. Better to contain them and let them starve out. Once only the remaining conservatives are left, we could re-open communications and re-colonize the place.

1/3 of the 80,000 jobs are with temp services.
I mentioned the other day that I believe by 2014 most people will be moved to contractor vs. employee status. It'll make more business sense to have everyone be contract workers. The company won't have to pay employer share of SS, no contribution to retirement funds, no health insurance, that person doesn't count for regulation purpose, you can side step all kinds of EEOC issues, it's a win for the company. Hell, there's no point in trying to build up any kind of employee loyalty since no one actually believes that they can start a career with Company A and stay there until retirement anyway.
I know that there are at least some manufacturing companies that use "temporary" services that are fully controlled by the company itself. Technically, the workers is not employed by Widgets R Us but by WRU Staffing. I expect more of these types of shell games to occur.

Independents love Bush bashing. It's what got Barky in office in the first place. But the GOP base would probably see this as a betrayal, despite the fact that Bush's policies weren't particularly conservative. What does Romney have to do to effectively counter the argument Obama will try and make, "returning to the failed policies of the past."

Miller said her sister passed away from colon cancer four years ago — partly because she could not purchase health insurance.
Okay I need help getting up on the tall soap box for this. *clears throat*
Health care is not the same thing as health insurance! An insurance company does not perform any type of health care. An insurance company does not provide treatment or perform tests or perform surgery or draw blood or anything of the like. An insurance company pays for that. No one dies because of a lack of health insurance. A person may die because of a lack of treatment but that is *not the same thing*.
I hate being bitchy to someone who suffered such a loss, but the conflation of health care and health insurance drives me nuts. Further, what indication is there that her sister would have been able to afford insurance even under Obamacare? Obamacare isn't actually single payer, no matter what people think. If her sister was making too much for Medicaid, then her sister would probably be tossed into the high risk exchange pool which would still be horribly expensive. There is no guarantee that her sister could have afforded insurance even then. Stop saying that people died from lack on insurance. Just. Stop it. Don't make me start stompying everyone.
*pants* Okay. Done now. Um. Can someone get me a ladder?

Just jump. We'll catch you. Swearsies.
But you're right. This is one of the things that has driven me so nuts about this: Health Insurance is not health care. Indeed, Health Insurance does not actually guarantee access to health care, nor does lack of insurance prevent said access.
Virtually every hospital in the nation provides free care if you can't afford it. They just write it off as "indigent care." It's not as good for their bottom line as if you pay, but a) they're big on healing people b) it's better than nothing, and c) it's great PR.
Add to that you can always go to places like the Mayo Clinic or MD Anderson and they'll give you your whole course of treatment, and worry about collecting anything later (again- you have to demonstrate need).
In short- she told a BS story. Her sister didn't die because she didn't have insurance, she died because she never sought out the programs that already existed to help her.

That being said, this is one of those topics that sets my teeth on edge. The purposeful health insurance = health care linguistic manipulation is insulting to the principles of logic. That's not even going into the whole issue of dismissing the numerous physicians, hospitals and charitable organizations that provide health care without any expectation of reimbursement.
I also lump in sob stories about illness/death/injury due to lack of ability to pay for health care in with for the children. As soon as that gets trotted out, I presume the person putting it forward has no actual intellectual support for his/her position. It drives me crazy.

Of course, Obama will use weather events to hammer the GOP, who will dutifully agree that the effects of global warming are real and need to be addressed, thereby depressing already depressed conservative hordes.

Democratic-leaning economists pointed to the silver linings in the data.
“Private employers have added jobs for 28 straight months, proving the resilience of the U.S. economy despite ill-conceived efforts by conservatives in Congress to enforce austerity measures that would surely strangle growth,” said Heather Boushey, senior economist at the Center for American Progress, a liberal think tank. “Imagine how much better today’s jobs report would be if lawmakers approved the president’s jobs plan. There’s still time—they should act now, for the sake of millions still unemployed.”

While the numbers are terrible, we should remind ourselves that most people, and most voters (at least voters who would ever consider voting GOP) have jobs. They may be struggling, they may not be doing as well as in the past, but they have jobs. To focus this election on the economy and only the economy is a mistake in my opinion. Mitt has to offer something more, and appeal to voters on the gut level. The economic circumstances dictate that voters will look at the other candidate. But Mitt has to make the sale. I don't think he can do it on economic issues alone. Partly because I have never been impressed with his 150 page 51 point economic plan. I hope Mitt can make the sale because Obama and his liberal policies are taking this country off a financial cliff, and 15,000 pages of new regulations relating to Obamacare scare the bejesus out of me.
Mitt should take a cue from Christie and have a press conference in front of a stack of 15,000 pages of paper and say this is what Obamacare is. He should point out that it means the hiring of 15,000 IRS agents. No one likes the IRS, use them. That appeals to peoples gut about what is wrong with it. Statistics just don't convey the same message.

And in a bit of a crying fit, I screamed out I hate this G**-damned country! How can I live in a place that letÂ’s people go broke because they get sick?!
I have some questions for that scrunt:
1. Did you ask your doctor if you could work out a payment plan?
2. Did you continue to buy Starbucks every day during that time?
3. How about new shoes? Books? Clothes?
4. Did you have cable/satellite?
5. Did you go on any trips?
6. Did you bother to put $2,000 in a savings account since you knew that's what your deductible is?
7. Why the every loving fuck do you think you are entitled to take money out of my wallet to pay for your bills you miserable waste of DNA?

Ashbrook cannot help himself when referring to Romney, saying as how Mitt is just back from a wonderful holiday at his very expensive weekend house in New England.
They dismiss the jobs report quickly, and get right away to ObamaCare, in which Ms Freeland warbles on about how no matter what anyone may think, government is the only solution for controlling costs.
Anybody else listen to this godawful shit?

You previous point (rant) about the conflation of health insurance with health care is part of a broader issue in this country: the loss of personal responsibility. Even the language that people use to describe their situations has become passive.
And...where do these people get the idea that they have a right to MY MONEY?

The BFF was Canadian and thus had universal healthcare. Her family did not understand that it didn't matter. Her brothers kept saying well how about a liver transplant, how about going to a specialist, how about this, how about that and the doctors kept trying to get through to them that there was nothing that could be done. A sister in law actually made a comment to the extent of how this wasn't supposed to happen since it's not like in America you just die because you can't pay for it. They quite legitimately believed that since all health care was "free" that there was something, anything that could be done. Nope.
Bad shit happens. It sucks. As discussed the other night, I really really want out of this stupid beta test physical form.

"...narrated by people with unprofessional speaking tics."
Unfortunately, this appears to be an industry-wide phenomenon. I don't know if the Connecticut School of Broadcasting is to blame, or Affirmative Action for Stutterers, or what, but there are some people who have no business reading the news. We have a guy here in Atlanta who sounds just like Squidward Tentacles, and he seems to pride himself on his nasal affliction, like it's his "signature" or something. I keep waiting for the day he moves on to another market. And then there are all the young whelps who can even read proficiently. At least the NPR hacks speak slowly enough to get most of the message out coherently.

Shit, Steve Jobs could pay for anything in the world, and he's still dead.
I've been noticing this sort of attitude--nothing is "chance" or "fate" or "God's will" anymore, it's all choice and money--with the recent popularity of conservatives-bashing-childless-women. If you've never brought a child to term, the only reason could possibly be your own selfish choice--disinclination to empty your 401(k) on IVF and/or bring an illegitimate child into the world are "selfish choices" now--biology/physiology/God are totally irrelevant. My cousin who had six miscarriages and stillbirths? Selfish choice.

How embarrassing for this scrawny, clumsy little girl. It's incredibly sad that a guy that most out-of-shape drunks could horsewhip at basketball has to fall back onto the only sport that he wasn't embarrassingly horrible at just to maintain the utterly Soviet-esque iron-man image that the MSM bestowed upon him in 2008.

Heather,
Thanks for posting that. We have 5 kids and take a lot of crap for it from people who really are selfish. I needed the reminder that not all childless people are so by choice and those who choose are not always selfish in their choice.
Those of us with big families are counter culture and can easily take on a bunker mentality. I am betting you would enjoy my retorts to the stupid comments we get, though.

I was lucky. Mrs. SGT Dan had hers caught VERY early, like "stage zero". But since she was a longtime UC sufferer, we were told "Might as well take out the whole thing, since most of the colon is in a precancerous condition anyway." Last month, the economy created just 80,000 jobs. That's just not good enough, working out to fewer than a million jobs a year when we would need about that many jobs per month to get back to full employment by year end.
Counting from his first full month as president, the economy under Obama has performed poorly. Only GW Bush, with an average monthly job loss of 25,000 the same number of months into his presidency did worse than Obama's loss of 12,000.
Ever heard that retarded saying “SCOAMF” Can’t tell you what it means, look it up. I said people if they are tired of hearing this crap. Turns out they aren’t, because they never heard. One a certain group of people never head the disrespectful trope. Classy, Respectful, Intelligent People. The white supremacists of the GOP Base reek of envy and desperation.
Obama evil? You mean after Adolf Hitler, Pol Pot, Josef Stalin, Osama Bin Laden, Kim Jong-il (along with father and son)? Or on the local front Ted Bundy, Dennis Rader (BTK killer), John Wayne Gacy, Timothy McVeigh et al? Then no, President Obama is neither evil nor wicked. He has neither killed, maimed or intentionally harmed another human being insofar as is known
Even your bullcrap this week says Bush was the worst President
Are you upset there aren't more racists like you?
Governor Romney has been desperately trying to avoid talking about Bain Capital and other investments of his that have consolidated and shut down jobs galore in the US, and shipped so many other jobs over seas.
Suddenly he wants to talk about jobs? Good, I have some questions to ask him.
