Jury Can't Find Verdict In Political-Bias-In-Academic-Hiring Case
— Ace

The jury agreed that the job-seeker had been denied her position due to her conservative views. However, they could not agree the Dean was legally responsible for this; they wanted to find the entire university responsible -- but federal law doesn't permit institutions to be held responsible.

So maybe we can use one more law.

Mass crucifixion, perhaps. But what about mass impalings? I just learned yesterday that impalings were accomplished by attaching heavy weights to the arms and legs of the soon-to-be-impaled. We could make the punishment suit the crime by impaling the lawyers by setting them on top of pointed sticks and tying those monster Westlaw volumes to them. And for lawyers who are also government bureaucrats, we use the Federal Register.

Two teams that I root for have a chance to end their own crappy seasons by encrappening the season of their opponents. BC (2 wins) is playing their ex-head coach at Bowl-bound NC State and Wake Forest (5 wins) is playing perennial SEC doormat Vanderbilt at the end of one of Vandy's best seasons in years.Wake would become Bowl eligible (but probably not worthy) with a win. 84 Well, the way these professional schools generally work is, they are quasi-autonomous. So the dean of the law school is functionally equivalent to the person in charge, even if the dean does report in name to the president of the university. But in general the dean is entirely responsible for things like hiring adjuncts and setting course schedules, which seems to be the issue at hand here with Wagner.

So I think what might have happened is that the law school dean did some blame-shifting and said "look, even if there was discrimination, I'm not the person *really* in charge, just look at this org chart". And the typical layman doesn't really understand how higher ed works (it is opaque, to say the least) and just accepted this org chart as equivalent to what one might be in the private sector, i.e., the guy at the top really is the person in charge. Which is not the case here.

Which will be great for conservatism. Because educrats are strongly conservative and all union members are evil bastards. I know that's what Ronnie Reagan ran on when he was winning landslides by attracting Reagan Democrats.

Oh well, I hate unions and working people, so I vote Republican. That, and I LOVE NO CHILD LEFT BEHIND and internet schools (because they are for profit, which is always good).

Hard to believe a party which has come up with NCLB, the Patriot Act, the Department of Homeland Security, and the Medicare prescription drug entitlement would possibly contain people who don't believe in the devolution of powers.

These innocent young people were duped by these schools, into thinking that there would be jobs waiting for them...if they enrolled in their degree programs.

The only good news is that the coming economic collapse is going to soak up the gravy train, like stale bread the day after Thanksgiving. When graduates realize their degree in gender neutral astral projection won't get them a job plunging toilets, you'll see change. Schools that impart a traditional "classical" liberal arts education as well as practical skills are the ones that will survive the coming academic collapse.

Right now the libs are winning because they have most of the cultural capital. But we can get it back. If the Aldersons and Kochs of the world started funding conservative academics in the academy and not just think tanks, things would be better. If they supported Western Civ/Classics/Dead White Guy studies that would start to balance out the Transgendered Underwater Basket Weaving Departments flooding the universities.

The other way to get cultural capital is to buy it. Instead of boycotting a company like Disney, buy it! You get ABC, ABCNews, ESPN, Star Wars, Marvel etc. That's tremendous cultural capital. If the stockholders elected a conservative board, that would slowly effect change. Personnel is policy. I remember years ago Pat Robertson threatened to buy CBS. Viacom had an apeshit panic, before they realized he didn't have the money to do it.

As part of our Tea Party efforts, we should target companies and institutions for take over. Its not enough to target political offices. We need to take control of the levers of culture. I think in the run up to 2014, we should pick a target and get it. I mention Disney because its big, and aimed squarely at the youths. And while its liberal, its not toxic like NBC, so its more attractive. And ole Walt and Ronnie were best buds back in the day so we'd be returning it to its founder's roots.

142 so on that global warming thing, (sidebar) do you get the feeling the greens are going to wait it out thinking that eventually we will have a warm year and they can tell us to ignore the past 15 years with no warming? like that they know they have a no-fail strategy since climate goes up and down, and they just have to make sure the public only pays attention when it agrees with their philosophy.

This is my biggest fear about the economy right now. We are all hoping for a recovery, and we all expect the economy will start to show some life eventually, but could the public possibly give credit to barry for the recovery he tried to suffocate for two terms? fdr still gets credit from a lot of people for the economy finally recovering after he spent four terms terms trying to kill it.

Just as Sarah Palin vetoed a bill to deny benefits to same sex domestic partners when her legislature sent it to her. It's one thing to "go with" what your people send to you, because governors and deans and presidents usually ought to, and another to use "go with" them as an excuse to hide behind to allow someone else you are also responsible for to be unconstitutionally discriminated against.
