Justice Department Official Refuses to Rule Out Criminalization of Blasphemy Against Islam
— Ace

!!!

!!!

Bonus: Egypt pushes for strengthening of anti-blasphemy clause.

Never forget this is their goal, and they seek this as it is a foundational part of sharia.

9 Pardon me while I blaspheme against Islam. With the Nicene Creed. I believe in one God, the Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all things visible and invisible. I believe in one Lord Jesus Christ, the Only Begotten Son of God, born of the Father before all ages. God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, consubstantial with the Father; through him all things were made. For us men and for our salvation he came down from heaven, and by the Holy Spirit was incarnate of the Virgin Mary, and became man. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate, he suffered death and was buried, and rose again on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead and his kingdom will have no end. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son is adored and glorified, who has spoken through the prophets. I believe in one, holy, catholic and apostolic Church. I confess one Baptism for the forgiveness of sins and I look forward to the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come. Amen. Yup. I just blasphemed against Islam. Come and get me, boys.

"Fairness" comes to free speech.  Don't have rules that apply to everyone equally.  Have rules that are applied on a case-by-case basis according to the whim of a "czar."  Islam's had it rough for 12 centuries, so we all need to give them "their fair share."  It's the way these kleptocrats govern everything else, why not ?

Muslims in America are here to stay, says Assistant US Attorney General for Civil Rights Thomas Perez, telling those who urge Muslims to ‘go home,’ “this is their home.”

Addressing a large Muslim gathering in the US capital, Perez also pledged to “use every tool at our disposal” to ensure equal opportunities for all Muslims living in America.

Tens of thousands of Muslims from around the United States gathered in Washington this weekend for the 49th annual Islamic Society of North America convention, “One Nation Under God: Striving for the Common Good.”

Assistant Attorney General Perez acknowledged that since 9/11, discrimination against Muslims had become more mainstream, such as arson attacks on and protests against mosques, burning of holy books and refusing building permits to Islamic centres.

There were also discrimination against Muslims in work places and Muslim kids at schools, he added.

But the American mainstream also doubled its efforts to counter these prejudices, said Perez, referring to an earlier speaker, Imam Majid, who said that for every American who opposed the construction of a mosque, “there are two who favour it.”

Acknowledging that employment discrimination against Muslims had become “a huge problem,” Perez said the Department of Justice was determined to overcome this problem.

Recently, the department settled a suit in New York City, forcing the employers to provide equal opportunities to Muslim Americans.

“People should never be forced to choose between their jobs and their faiths,” Perez said. “We will also continue to fight bullying of Muslim kids in schools. We also have a message for those who tell Muslims to go home, ‘this is their home, the United States of America.’”

Perez said the Department of Justice acted promptly when it heard that an FBI and a DOJ training facilities were stereotyping Muslims and ensured that “we do not repeat these mistakes.”

Perez also noted that when county officials and a chancery court prevented Muslims from building a mosque in Rutherford County, Tennessee, the Department of Justice forced them to change their decision. Now the Islamic Centre of Murfreesboro was functioning normally and also held Eid prayers as scheduled, he added.

I'm a fine artist and commercial illustrator. That's how I make most of my living. For awhile now, since the Mohammed cartoon controversy, I've been sorely tempted to make a piece of art that's insulting to Islam--not because I'm after controversy but because I'm an American instilled in the idea of freedom: freedom of speech, freedom of worship, freedom of thought and word. That good people such as Theo Van Gogh is murdered in the street and Ayaan Hirsi Ali is exiled and threatened in quisling Europe is bad enough, but bad enough becomes intolerable when that kind of craven dhimmitude comes here.

So yeah, I'm giving into temptation and starting a painting. When it's finished, I'm entitling it "The Prophet Mohammed Enjoying Carnal Knowledge of a Pig'.

Islam's a religion.  It needs modernizing, but its definitely a religion.  Chistianity had rougher edges prior to the 13-14th century re: politics and dictating culture - but we grew out of that, largely because the Enlightenment also leashed government in general more than previously.  Islam hasn't even reached a "New Testament" level of development, much less the Rennaisance/Enlightenment.

I've never read a definition of religion that makes exceptions for belief systems that also dictate politics and culture.  You're correct in saying it's largely plagarized from Christianity and a few bits of other religions, but I haven't seen a definition that would exclude them on that basis either.   After all, most Christians wouldn't call Mormonism a denomination but not that many claim it's not a religion.

The political system distinction got traction back when Bush's politicos were trying to parse distinctions as to Islam vs. Islamists, etc.   I don't buy it - they are a religion, and they need to fix its problems on that basis.

4.  Right on cue, American leftists and administration officials begin hinting at creating the very same laws to usurp our 1st amendment rights that the Islamists have been working towards for eons.

202 I'm a fine artist and commercial illustrator. That's how I make most of my living. For awhile now, since the Mohammed cartoon controversy, I've been sorely tempted to make a piece of art that's insulting to Islam--not because I'm after controversybut because I'm an American instilled in the idea of freedom: freedom of speech, freedom of worship, freedom of thought and word. That good people such as Theo Van Gogh ismurdered in the street and Ayaan Hirsi Ali isexiled and threatened in quisling Europe is bad enough, but bad enough becomes intolerable whenthat kind of craven dhimmitude comes here. So yeah, I'm giving into temptation andstarting a painting. When it's finished, I'm entitling it "The Prophet Mohammed Enjoying Carnal Knowledge of a Pig'. I enjoy the snark - and it's often very, very good here - but folks, have the last two weeks actually moved anyone to thinking things are deadly serious?  Not just domestically - where lawlessness from above (both "courts" and executive branches) has been gaining steam for years, but in good ol' fashioned common sense foreign policy terms?  The earlier post by (Andy?) was spot on.

The cringing appeasement (it actually has a weird, creepier, hard-to-label element to it, I think) in the last week is Carter + Clinton X 10.  In Cairo many games are being played within games, given the regime - but elsewhere, the demonstration effect is clearly dramatic.  Tunisia, Yemen, other places.  The Ikhwan is not in charge all over, but those other places, to quote Capt. Renault, go with the wind, and right now that wind blows from Cairo (Vichy).  I doubt that many people who count have gotten a good sleep in Riyadh, Kuwait City, Amman, Rabat, etc. for the last week.

Of course this is not a stand-alone event.  But I think even many people here don't realize how much trouble is likely in store thanks mostly to utterly incompetent and avoidable blunders by the ridiculously unfit sub-medriocities in power (and in many many cases, in senior career slots just below them).

Patton famously messaged back, when told he had exceeded his operational orders by seizing the German river town of Trier (birthlplace of Marx) - "would you like me to give it back?"   Well, the last three years have amounted to ceding territory we will once more have to take ("territory" as in deterrence and respect earned with American blood and adult decision-making by Dubya and his people .... before they inexplicably faded and weakened in their last year).

Oh - and the point of this post.  Lawlessness.  Constitutional decay.  Speaking only for myself, I feel more detached from the US of today than many foreigners probably do.  Every ignorant misguided NPR listener, blood relative or not, every low-info media-soaked idiot friend - they are not really my countrymen.   I'm not sure who is, any more.

214 they are a religion, and they need to fix its problems on that basis.

Its more than just a religion.  Its a blueprint for a hermetically sealed xenophobic society.  Social, legal, banking/commerce, ...and religion.

The Koran is also supposedly the literal word of Allah, not some scribblings of a hanger on who may have invented a few things or misinterpreted others, THE literal word of Allah.

Its this last thing that makes any "reform" of Islam virtually impossible.  To doubt even a single word in the koran renders you apostate for doubting the word of Allah and subject to beheading.

God, please God, let the election be a smackdown of Obama and the disease that is permeating this country, in Biblical proportions.

If we are lucky and get this result, we have to come up with a way to prevent the media from doing to Romney what they did to GWB.  There is so much to do in so little time.

I hope this is the part of the movie where the hero has had his ass kicked all around, and things look their bleakest, just before the tide turns.  Then the reinforcements arrive and the good guys win, giving the evildoers a beatdown of epic proportions.

314 Subject: Republicans have hell to pay for this [redacted], Republicans are constantly making offensive attacks on Democrats in order to appeal to the reactionary elements in their base. {gotta love the irony} They rarely pay the price for it, either, but we're changing that with Hell to Pay. This week's Hell to Pay is for the attack Republican Tommy Thompson's campaign made against Democratic Rep. Tammy Baldwin in Wisconsin's crucial U.S. Senate race. Baldwin is an unapologetic progressive, born and raised in Wisconsin, and a dedicated public servant. Oh yeah, and she's gay. Last week, one of Thompson's senior advisers sent an email attacking Rep. Baldwin's fitness for office just because she is gay. After refusing to address the issue for six days, Thompson finally denounced the attack and told reporters that adviser, Brian Nemoir, had been demoted. However, two days later, Nemoir was still sending out emails for the Thompson campaign using the same title he held before the attack. Further, Nemoir is publicly standing by his remarks. There needs to be hell to pay for this. We should be long past the point where gay-bashing for political benefit, and then lying about it, is an acceptable way to operate a major campaign. However, we are only going to get to that point once we prove the price to pay for bigotry is higher than the support Republicans receive for appealing to it. Please, make sure Republicans know there is hell to pay for bigotry by contributing $5 to Tammy Baldwin now. Keep fighting, Joan Pissbrain McCarter, Daily Kos

0.o The New Testament is not a reformation.  Rather, it is a fulfillment of the Old.

The entirety of the Old Testament is Israel experiencing, over, and over, and over, to the point of weariness on the part of the reader, the consequences of sin, and seeing it firsthand.  Israel was ordered to clear out the Promised Land, and did so.  Never were they instructed to convert anyone, let alone convert by the sword.

The Law of Moses, as it is called, was given as a set of rules men had to live by to live righteously.  The entire point of the Old Testament is the spectacular failure of God's own chosen people to abide by those rules, ergo the necessity of Christ.

In none of this is there a Reformation.  Everything in the Old Testament pointed to the coming of Christ, and the fulfillment of Scripture.

The Protestant Reformation was indeed a big deal, but it is a mistake to interpret it as a change in Scriptural doctrine itself.  You correctly diagnosed the Reformation as breaking the power of the Catholic Church of the time, but that's just the thing - it was political power that was broken.  The Bible was not rewritten, Christ's instructions did not change.  What changed was the political power structure of the era.  o.0

Speaking of this, can't somebody on our side surreptitiously get the media to speculate about whether or not the Amb was killed because some Muslims might have thought he was gay?  Getting the left stirred up over gay rights might be the only way to get them to understand that bowing to Sharia and giving up our rights might not be such a good idea.

Precisely so!  I cannot think of how to phrase it well, but the best expression I can think of is that Christianity and Judaism are not interested in quantity of conversion, but rather, quality.  Dedication, truly seeking God and righteousness, chasing after God.  To convert anyone by the sword is basically antithetical to the entire point of the faith, as there is no value in the relationship between God and the forced convert.

343 Which of course is why there's maybe a half dozen major variants on the bible, all of which vary in content and language to different degrees.

345 Libya has arrested 50 now.  Those officials in charge of security in Benghazi have been sacked.

Responsibility has been narrowed down considerably - the Libyans are blaming imported talent from Mali and Algeria that worked with local malcontents to organize the assault.

The Mali connection seems quite plausible (certainly more plausible than the egregious lies coming out of the Obama administration).  There's a particularly crazy bunch of Islamist there who are bent on destroying even Islamic artifacts and historical sites.

347 Judge Napolitano is on Fox talking about how much of a piece of junk the film Innocence of Muslim (he calls it "idiotic") while he tries to defend our right to free speech. What the fuck is wrong with these people? THe movie is actually very, very funny. It is biting satire. SO it had cheap green-screen "sets"? Big deal. SNL has had bad sets for everything. Bad sets don't make a bad movie. The dialogue in Innocence of Muslims is hysterical and it gets a across very important points about the idiocy and savagery of islam. It does it quite smartly. The green screen sets make the point even more strongly that islam requires mockery - islam doesn't deserve a movie with expensive sets! I like Napolitano but I CANNOT stand these diluted defenses of our clear free speech rights, not to mention the fact that islam has NEVER been part of America. NEVER. It has contributed nothing to this country but attacked us on and off since our inception. We have generally had ZERO muslims here (until we got stupid over the past few decades and started importing the savages like they were going out of style, for some stupid reason). I recommend people watch the 13 minute trailer for the movie. It's a gas. A funny movie that tells an important story.

348 Not to be a "concern troll" but, considering all the "hate crimes" legislation passed and proposed, and the unpredictability of the Obama administration itself, and the way the question was phrased, I don't think a Justice Department bureaucrat can promise there's anything the Justice Department will absolutely never, ever do. The best thing he could say would be, "I hope not, but I'm not a goddamn psychic."

349 Just think, if Col. Von Trapp would have spread all those kids around with multiple wives instead of forcing one woman to bear him all those children, Mrs. Von Trapp would have lived. Maria would have never left the nunnery, and the Abbey wouldn't have been burdened with having to pay for the cost of her birth control pills...

353 Yesterday I went to Mass at a different church, was visiting friends. I was shocked the priest talked about not being afraid to display your faith and said stuff like "what? are they going to call you a bigot, or a holy roller? So what"...And he made fun of the "war on women". He sure got the message across. It was very refreshing. The priests at my church follow the PC doctrine and are just plain boring.

354 @347...Right idea, wrong place for one of those.

I'd say Cairo and Beirut, if only because Libya's sparsely populated enough not to make much of a difference.

Okay, I'll give you that. But since we already have the assets in region, we might as well drop a couple around Tehran, too just for shits and giggles.

355 The problem with this is there are laws on the books that the DOJ has to support (well, at least in theory, the Obama Administration has shown that it is perfectly capable of ignoring laws which suit it). If you want to truly support free speech, you need to eliminate hate crime laws.

We don't have anti-blasphemy laws in America, but our DoJ  will pull some out of  thin air without Congress' approval. Much like  we have DoMA  but b/c O doesn't like it, he doesn't  enforce it.

He's  dictator who must resign/be impeached/be voted out. And once he's voted out, we need to prosecute him.

Should criticism or mockery of or outright 'blaspheming' of Islam be classified as hate speech by the DoJ, then I would advocate non-violent resistance in the form of mass mockery, criticism and blaspheming of Islam by all who care about freedom of speech in this country. Blasphemy art contests should be held, for example, with the Most Blasphemous prize-winner awarded $50/month on the prison book for candy bars and snacks for as long as the winner is in jail. 'Fuck Islam' teeshirts should be worn proudly and freely. 'Blasphemy Fests' should be organized, with floats of the parade being judged solely on their offensiveness to the Prophet. And so on. You get the idea.

Make these quisling dhimmi weasels in the federal government follow through on such a law: millions of midnight knocks on the doors, millions of otherwise law-abiding Americans charged with hate crimes. Pack the jails, and when the jails are overflowing, fill the streets. The important thing is to do so peacefully.

What.Is.The.Response?   If he wins a 2nd term, we will have lost the republic. As Ben Franklin said and Romney repeated - when the public sees it can vote itself more $, we will loose the republic! OK, it's not an exact quote, but I'm at work & only have a minute . We are now at a tipping point! 47% (or 49% really) take government handouts. When that reaches 50+ that's all she wrote!!
