Karl Rove: It Ain't Over Yet
— Ace

He makes a good case for Ohio, but Florida is looking kind of bad.

Still. It's actually not over.

My 348 Electoral vote prediction? Yeah, I was wayyyy off.

Update: Karl Rove and Joe Trippi agree: Romney still has a narrow path -- requiring some breaks -- and they can win the whole election.

Update: We were finally called as winning North Carolina.

Florida and Ohio.

82 This is what I was hoping for, some major warpathing, uniting, and back to the drawing board strategizing by non leftists, just like the left did in 04, after Kerrys loss.  All this while an entire generation of youth are mostly lost to the party in power and dem's are increasingly Obama weary and he is increasingly isolated.

I am warrior and frankly fighting leftists on defense is lonely and hopeless.  This way we can stay on recruitment/offense for another 4 years.  Not only that Obama and moochelle will be pariahs the world over, where as if they lost this election the institutional left would rewrite history to make him the victim of circumstances.

110 I'm reposting from another thread. Long-time lurker here, seldom commenter, inviting interested parties to come down to Texas if tonight goes as badly as it's looking. TFG can't destroy the nation entirely - Texas wouldn't give up her freedom so easily. Absolute worst-case scenario: we take around thirty states with us. Let the West Coast, from LA up to Seattle, have their liberal paradise, eventually becoming Canada's Baja peninsula. Carve out the Great Lakes coast and everything north of DC and Pennsylvania (again, eventually joining Canada). Let all those unAmerican idiots govern themselves to their liking, and we'll take the Constitution with us. It's not secession if we make THEM leave. After all, they left our country's founding principles a long time ago. What I'm going to do, in no particular order: arm myself and my family; acquire enough acreage to produce enough food if I need to; teach my boys the Bible and the Constitution; stay in Texas. The revolution, if it comes down to it, will be bloodless. The policies of the left will devour them. They're doomed to failure. We know this. Plus, the military's leaders took an oath of fealty to the Constitution; if BO is reelected, it's only a matter of time before there's no denying that our greatest domestic enemy resides in the White House.

111 When do we admit this is mainly about demographics? And every 4 years the demographics get worse for us. Republicans are the evil white party and an ever-growing % of the electorate is happy to vote to fuck over the evil white people. Obama's "revenge" line probably won him votes.

129 This is a hard left nation. This nation elected Obama once. Did anyone REALLY think the First Black President would not be relected. White women pretty much universally love the guy, because hell most White women under 55 ARE Sandra Fluke. That's who they are. They don't work in the oil patch. They don't work in manufacturing, or defense. Most all work at NGOs, corporate offices amok with AA and diversity. And consume the media like chocolates on Valentine's Day.

Add in the Blacks, Hispanics, Gays, and SWPL folks, and you've got the ability to get their way.

Florida and Ohio go to Obama -- he'll cheat his way in. And its a losing game to challenge Black cheaters, this is a non-White majority nation now, and White Guy is not only an insult, but basically the mark of an untouchable save a few hard left celebrities like Charlie Sheen or Sean Penn.

The country is doomed and the Republicans were no small part of the fall.  This is where being a milquetoast leads.

194 It's early yet, and Romney may yet win this in a squeaker, but I'm genuinely puzzled. I'm a conservative by disposition. Less government, less micromanagement, no Obamacare, a balanced budget, lower taxes.

And yet . . . and yet . . .

The Republican Party has gone entirely off the rails. What in the hell are these candidates saying about rape and abortion? That doesn't help. The anti-gay thing. A'right, that's very 1950's in a 2012 world. It looks like a party of segregationists. Just get on the side of history and get it over with. You're going to go toe-to-toe against hispanics? In this country? What did you think would happen?

At the end of the day, I'm bothered more by the total lack of common sense. I know what many Republicans want. But you want isn't necessarily what you're going to get. Adjust or die. Many Republicans and the party in general are choosing die.

Obama should have lost in a landslide. Even with the Republican Party's anachronistic views, I still wanted Obama to go down.

But the country and the cultural reality are leaving you behind. Embrace this. Learn from it. Adjust accordingly. I love conservative governance when it comes to foreign policy, fiscal discipline, and taxation. Culturally, you've this massive evangelical albatross around your necks. Politically, not only was the primary a gang of clowns, but the actual candidate screamed "Don't trust me! I'll say anything!" Honestly? This was the best Republicans could do? Romney seemed to get the nomination by default, as the least fucking horrible candidate.

Ace, I love you. You're my favorite logical conservative. Your thinking is among the finest I've read online. You have an insight that is brilliant.

But I'm stymied by how little you guys perceive about America's political reality. It's like you don't entirely understand where this country is and where it's going.

You're running ten years behind. Update accordingly.

"The American people are well and truly fucked."

See, the problem is the American people, or rather, the residents and placeholders in America that get to vote. Vote to take, through the force of an Obama government, the assets of others. Oh yeah, they love Obama, and we're just the suppliers of all their shit.

Posted by: tubal at November 06, 2012 06:48 PM (BoE3Z)

209 I think it is a loss. I hope to be wrong, but do not think so. I think only threats of disunion will secure our liberties. And they have to be real threats. Absent that, slow steady erosion. I will not help the United States prosper to any great extent while Barack Obama is in office. Or any Dem, for that matter. I have no desire to be part of this nation anymore, and this is not said in anger, but defiance. Fight. To the pitchforks.

213 Romney ran a pretty good campaign. I think the lesson is campaigns don't really matter, and it is in fact demographics - minorities and single women kill us. In a relatively close race like this, Christie could have made a difference, but long-term it does look bleak because of the demographics.

Posted by: Spike at November 06, 2012 06:48 PM (I4NNt)

214 It honestly never occurred to me that the public would reelect such a total failure. Honestly, it never did. I guess the demographics and the corruption in the system just hit a tipping point. I'm sorry to say, there's probably no going back now. Now it's all about managing the decline.

217 >>>Well Ace...it looks like Mr. Wolf was right, we shouldn't have been sucking each other dicks just yet...epistimological closure amongst the right blogosphere...

It's not that.

Two weeks ago Romney WAS winning.  Then he began slipping, and Sandy came, and Chris Christie practically endorsed Obama.

We've been still looking back at two weeks ago.  And I don't really think that's a bad thing.  I believe to succeed you have to first believe you can succeed. You have to take additional steps past that, but without the first step of belief, it's not possible at all.

So I do not think it was bad to sort of ignore the past week's polling, and the definite slippage.  A team that goes into a match thinking they will lose, will lose.  There is a thing called Game Faces.

There's a lot of lessons to be figured out from this.  Some of them will be very hard ones.  Some of them will almost be impossible.

311 I blame the schools and the parents which is I suppose really just blaming us.

I was in the local IKEA over the weekend, in the kitchen ware section.  A young couple with a baby was looking and the male picked up an egg cup, turned it over a few times, read the label, and asked his wife, for all to hear, including the baby: "Egg cup?!!? what the fuck is an egg cup?"

Being nearby, and thinking it was a genuine question, I said, you put a soft boiled egg in it.  "Oh, the two of them said.  You learn something new every day."

314 Is there any question left that the country is irreconcilably split and this will not improve? No matter who wins, it's clear to me that the Republic is dead.

Exactly.  The Republicans went along with this demographic transformation of America and now Latin American rather than Anglo-American style politics is our inevitable future and, in most of Latin America, the conservatives aren't all that conservative by Anglo-American standards, they're just soft liberals.

I've been reading your analyses of the polls, and I didn't spot anything to complain about. A D+11 poll really is crazy; if a D+11 poll correctly predicted reality, I don't know what to tell you. Another Moron made a cynical joke that the D+11 was to allow for the voting fraud. I almost wonder.

336 Still have a sliver of hope, but it looks bad.  I've got kids 19, 16, and 13, and I don't think I can give them a better future than my parents gave me.  Almost everyone here knows the Heinlein quote that is a window into the near future:

Throughout history, poverty is the normal condition of man. Advances which permit this norm to be exceeded Â— here and there, now and then Â— are the work of an extremely small minority, frequently despised, often condemned, and almost always opposed by all right-thinking people. Whenever this tiny minority is kept from creating, or (as sometimes happens) is driven out of a society, the people then slip back into abject poverty. This is known as "bad luck."

I think, and it's only me spitballing here, that 2010 was the actual mirage. It was sheer guttural rage at O-Care, but a limited rage. I also think people still wanted to vote for the black guy so they wouldn't appear "racist."

There's a strategy at work here--the MSM wants to give meat to the bones in casea losingObama litigates and Fox (and others) want viewer ratings through the roof. Everybody, it seems, has an agenda. We're not getting it straight and, more importantly, we have not lost this thing, not yet.

Posted by: troyriser at November 06, 2012 10:50 PM (vtiE6)

I want to believe you, troyriser, but I've got a sick, sick feeling in my gut right now.  Sick enough that, if we really do lose (I could deal with that smarmy scrunt Warren, but just barely), I do not want to go to work.  Because I will be surrounded by grinning, gloating SCOAMF voters and I will want to kill them.  And that is not hyperbole.  I want to KILL them.  I am sick and tired of shrugging my shoulders every couple of years, readjusting my expenses ever smaller and working ever longer hours just to keep even.  I thought we might just have a chance to breathe a bit.  I worked, I pounded on doors, I made calls, I brought people to the polls -  sure, I'm in Massholia, but I did everything I could.

And yet, after seeing the lawlessness, the sneering, the spending, the complete trashing of our founding principles over the last four years, the American "people" want to double down on this shit?  REALLY?

I'm going to bed.  I hope we pull it out.  But I can't keep watching the numbers.  I can't keep going on with this sick feeling in my stomach.  I want the Democrats dead.  I literally want every asshole who voted Democrat to die.  That's what 4 years of Obama have done to me.

With any luck, maybe all of my bad habits will catch up with me tonight and I won't wake up tomorrow.

431 The real issue isn't the often talked about gender gap, it's minority demographics and the marriage gap.  Singles with no children don't have a family or the future to worry about and people in our era are too immature at the tender age of 18--or even arguably their entire 20s--to make serious decisions.  As Sailer points out in the linked article above the difference between all singles and all married in terms of preference for Romney according to the Reuters poll was 20 percentage points (57% versus 37%).

Let this be a lesson for future founders of republics: raise the voting age substantially or require marriage to vote if you don't want your country going down the shitter.  Also, limit the franchise to those who are native-born so that elected officials don't attempt electing a new class of voters.

Americans were wooed by big talking populists in 1992, 1996, and 2008. Bush barely beat won twice. While I don't think he was a horrible president, Bush 41 destroyed everything Reagan had built up. 494 Some perspective:  “Meaningless! Meaningless!”
    says the Teacher.
“Utterly meaningless!
    Everything is meaningless.”

3 What do people gain from all their labors
at which they toil under the sun?
4 Generations come and generations go,
    but the earth remains forever.
5 The sun rises and the sun sets,
and hurries back to where it rises.
6 The wind blows to the south
    and turns to the north;
round and round it goes,
    ever returning on its course.
7 All streams flow into the sea,
yet the sea is never full.
To the place the streams come from,
    there they return again.
8 All things are wearisome,
    more than one can say.
The eye never has enough of seeing,
nor the ear its fill of hearing.
9 What has been will be again,
    what has been done will be done again;
there is nothing new under the sun.
10 Is there anything of which one can say,
    Â“Look! This is something new”?
It was here already, long ago;
it was here before our time.
11 No one remembers the former generations,
and even those yet to come
will not be remembered
    by those who follow them.

For the first time in my life I am truly ashamed that I am part of this political process. I guess when you see Oblivion up ahead it is better to race toward it than to inch ever closer. And I guess if Romney was the best chance of beating Obama there really was not chance at all huh Ann Coulter.

593 I am 62, a young and vibrant 62 to be sure.  People usually think I am in my 40s.  I have no children.  I do have nieces and nephews that I dearly love, but, I do not plan on leaving them a dime.  My first call tomorrow is to my broker and I am re-arranging my life before capital gains expire and before they seize assets to retire the debt.  I may buy an annuity and just go total fuck-it-all.  I am one of the lucky ones, I have choices that will harm no one, but, me.  I have a good job, just got a promotion and a nice raise, so I will keep working as long as I still enjoy it, but, I am not going to work till 70 like I planned so some brainless chickie can have her abortions on my tax dollars or some slacker can throw his vote away on legalizing marijuana, which is a lost cause because the cartels will never allow it.

The Republican Party has not had a convincing presidential election victory since 1988.

3) Some weak downticket races that pulled him down, especially Josh Mandel as a Senate candidate in Ohio. And I've got a Josh Mandel sign in my yard.

739 Even if no one really is at fault. An incumbent anything is difficult to unseat.

Even given that the mass Media has lied and hidden the facts to aid him.

We're still faced with 4 more years of this administration. (I don't hold him accountable anymore. He's a facade. A puppet to display. He was born and bred for that role and he's played it as far as he is able. It's his advisers and other shadowy individuals that are the problem)

If after what he's done in 4 years to sink this country, who (other than the naive 53% that's voted for him again) thinks things will not get worse?

I am glad that the county I live in voted Republican. At first they showed it as blue and I couldn't believe I misjudged folks up close and personal but then later they changed it to red. Surrounded by blue. *sigh*

At least I won't have to move out of disgust. It was a close thing.

We're in a zombie movie only this time the zombies are sucking the lifeblood our of the country. See you on the other side of four years. If we make it.

If we lose, I don't think it can be Sandy. Helped O, but stats like WI, MI, PA went too quick. Makes me think they would have gone that way anyway. We'll see...if we lose, I'm upset, but at least maybe the polls were right and not totally fixed...most of you don't care, but maybe they were at least trying to report the truth. That means something to me. I thought they were just completely in bed w/ O. If we lose though, the Ds will be cut to pieces in 2014. You can't blame Bush six years in. Then the Ds will throw O overboard...he'll be a burden on whoever they want as Pres in 2016. No party has keep the White House three terms in a row since WWII, and we've got a good bench. So we'll see. Lastly - I'm OK w/ Romney, even if he loses. He ran a good campaign. Maybe Sec of Def or Fed Chairman in a Ryan or Rubio or Ayotte or Toomey or McDonnell of VA or whoever administration. There'll be another time. *** But if they can call and then take back a race (FL in 2000), I'm not gonna pee the bed just yet.

Point to the party and the pundits for this debacle. The problem? Mitt is a progressive. It is hard to say Obamacare is bad and still laud Romneycare. The American people have been indoctrinated by media and academia for decades into the deep caves of ignorance. FREE STUFF is more important to 99% of Americans than being free. I point my fingers at conservatives as they fight to protect their social security and medicare, their farm, bank, corp subsidies. There is no longer a functional family unit in America. Men have been turned into womenly creatures. WE KILL our children in the name of convenience. We not only abandon God we mock Him, spit at Him, crucify Him embracing anything other than the true God. Where to go? There is no place on Earth left to run, as Reagan pointed out, the US was the last great bastion of freedom, and that died here today.

The trend will not stop, it will get worse and worse.

790 We have to deal with the fact that the US as it was meant to be and as it has more or less existed through over 200 years no longer exists and will never exist again upon the face of the earth.

Obama has radically transformed the country and there is no path back.  It would be the work of generations to undo what has been done and that will not happen once everyone is on the dole.  Our demographics have changed and free men do not control any of the outlets of information or any of the levers of power.

We have shown ourselves to be a racist and Marxist nation.  It is both sickening and shocking and there are not words to express the sorrow that is to come.  Losing an election is nothing.  We just lost the last free country on earth.  We lost what few shreds of our Constitution were left and the principles on which the country was founded are now no longer operable.

This is literally a whole new ballgame now.  It is a whole new world.  The US was Helm's Deep where good and decent people could flee when their own countries became too tyrannical.  Now there is literally no where left on earth where a man might live and be free to any significant degree.

As an atheist, all I can say is God help us all.

802 The fault here doesn't lie with the MFM or anyone else. Barky is an inept America-hater and a liar and even the MFM couldn't hide this from people because Barky was constantly doing shit to expose himself. Sure, people might not have herad about 20 or 30 outrageous and stupid things Barky did, but they still saw and heard about 200 other stupid and outrageous things that the MFM couldn't hold back. No one could have listened to that low-life campaign Barky ran and not know that he was slimeball liar. No, as much as I would like to blame the MFM (and they are worthy of much blame) this election had nothing to do with them. This was about a huge percentage of people in this nation who hate the very idea of America and want to see us brough to our knees.

I admired your poll analysis contributions, as with other posters. But I just couldn't see a win happening. Didn't ever say anything due to the eeyore effect. But this election for the R's was just not on the cards, despite 2010.  Romney/Ryan was a good ticket. Maybe not perfect, but good enough all things considered. The problem is Obama and the MSM etc. Obama was not going to be allowed to lose 2008 and he was never going to be allowed to lose 2012. America was not going to be able to sack the AA president. Fraud and the rest of it added in, the MSM still has the clout to get what it wants. Jugears would have needed to sabotage himself to get fired. People are pulling the lever for the indonesian imbecile, because it would be racist not to. Things aren't the same and people aren't as reliable as they were years ago.

I've been through that.  I've bled, quite literally, to get to where I am today.  I've fought and struggled and why?  For what?  To watch as half the country decides they want what I've earned?

Let me be as clear as I can be:   I did not party, I did not sleep around, I did not do drugs, I did not drink heavily, I studied, I worked, I put my nose to the grindstone to have some tiny, tiny measure of success.   I tried to do the right thing.  For that I will be punished.

Yeah, I think we have reached a tipping point here.

Next on the agenda, massive tax hikes (further depressing our economy) and the possibility of a major conflagration in the Middle East. Yay/

"Our biggest threat is the media"

Yup. Wouldn't it be nice if Republicans attacked the media and entertainment industry with the same vengeance that the Democrats use when they attack oil, coal and pretty much any other productive industry? Excise taxes on movie ticket sales, repealing tax breaks for entertainment companies and artfully crafted taxes on media parent corporations would be a nice start.

But that will never happen. Too many Republicans politicians and "conservatives" would rather bitch about media and entertainment bias than actually do anything about it.

With the first debate, a big chunk of the population saw Eastwood's empty chair being hacked apart by Romney.  Obama is going to find it a lot harder to skate by on aura this term.

863 849: What happened was this: An entitlement society. Does anyone really think that business isn't going to retaliate? Heck, they've been hoarding cash for nearly three years now after Obama snubbed them. More businesses will fold and move and there isn't a darn thing the Administration can do about it. The House is going to rule these next two years. Mr. Obama even said he's learned that he's going to have to work with the House better if he were re-elected. The presidency is only one-third of our government. The Senate is largely ineffective and the President is going to have to play nice. No worries. Worse, no president from either party has had a free ride in the second term. The press is going to be all up this Administration's rear because there are no more markers to call in. Watch how quickly the MSM starts tossing this Administration under the bus now.

878 The danger to America is not Barack Obama, but a citizenry capable of entrusting a man like him with the Presidency. It will be far easier to limit and undo the follies of an Obama presidency than to restore the necessary common sense and good judgment to a depraved electorate willing to have such a man for their president. The problem is much deeper and far more serious than Mr. Obama, who is a mere symptom of what ails America. Blaming the prince of fools should not blind anyone to the vast confederacy of fools that made him their prince. The Republic can survive a Barack Obama, who is, after all, merely a fool. It is less likely to survive a multitude of fools, such as those who made him their President. - Prager Zeitungon, Czech Republic newspaper, 4/28/2010

We are told to study history so that we do not make the mistakes of the past, well I don't see why when the great majority pay no attention. There will still be football on Sunday, and many government checks will be passed on Friday. The Mob likes this way of life with no clue that the barbarians are crashing the gates as they lose their freedom. Whatever the life my grandson lives will be his 'normal' as he will never know the great joys of prosperity of his recent past. I am sad for him and wish that I did not bring children into this new world.

I will give no more than is required to the government.  I am going to take every legal deduction and stash stuff in my house that can be used as an investment (like cheap estate sale gold and silver).

I am not giving a dime to the media/Hollywood/music/education industry.

902 Folks: My talk of secession was tongue in cheek. The Dems thought the same way when power shifted for 8 years under President Bush. Bitter tears are nectar for the wicked. Don't give them a sweet drink. Mr. Obama's just one politician and all of the chinks in his armor are now laid bare. Go after them. His next four years are going to be rougher than the stubble on Lizzie Warren's legs. Your local power is in your wallet and your voices. Hoard your cash and be vocal, but don't fall for the call of the extremists, either. Be good citizens and operate within the law. The pendulum always swings back the other way. Maybe not today, but one day.

Posted by: Manolo at November 06, 2012 08:01 PM (PttbO)

903 @#894 It does not matter that half of the country do not buy this crap. With laws, mandates, red tape, and more our freedoms will be eliminated or controlled. This will lead to permanent control until the actual collapse of the US. To the person that talked about 1933 and the history books...it actually was in full swing during the Wilson era. What saved the US was WWII where we became the keeper of the world's treasury, or at least half of the world's. The dollar became king. This will not happen again. The dollar is soon to be replaced. If there is a war like WWII again it will include nukes which eliminates the advantage of logistics and manufacturing, and we have no manufacturing even if it was a conventional war. So it is good to know the past, but also to understand modern standing so one does not 'fight the last war'.

They'd be doing worse than he is if they were here. So,yes, this is a big defeat. Not only cuz O goes back in, but R&R were a good ticket. But the Country finished? Don't see it.
