— Ace The theory seems to make sense. It didn't work, but it agrees with his narcisstic "Joker" fantasy.
nvestigators now believe that Holmes used a timer to set off loud techno music at the apartment just before midnight. It was meant to spur a noise complaint to police. The ruse theoretically would have drawn them into the apartment building, detonating a firebomb and then drawing all available police and rescue units to the other side of town before the shooting at the theater started. That would have allowed him more time to kill more people and left a much smaller police response to the theater shootings.
Corrected: I initially thought an Adult Friend Finder page highlighted by Reddit and Mediaite actually listed the name "Jim Holmes." Turns out it doesn't; it only says "Jimbo."
I really have no strong reason to think this is the killer, so rather than being a Brian Ross, I'm deleting this link until there's confirmation.

Terrorist tactic, yes. But 'splosion would not divert all resources. He was armored for a fight but seemed to have quit. Quite curious. Also told 5-O about the rigged apartment. Hmmm. Who knows.

So...this guy didn't die his hair to look like the Joker, right before he did this.
He already looked like that?
Posted by: wheatie at July 20, 2012 04:33 PM (MbB0O)
The guy was definitely living in a fantasy world. Correct me if I'm wrong but his whole attempt to use gas in the theater was useless, was it not? It's really something out of a superhero movie.

What really pisses me off is that Ace is on vacation and the only content we get is Ace. Dude. Or rather, Dude!
Just go. It'll still be there when you get back....unless the entire staff goes to a Batman premier. Sounds like we need an excise tax on movie tickets to provide security, and for all the other things that govt has done for the movie industry.

AP has some info on when and where he acquired the guns:
Holmes bought one of the four guns - the first of two Glock pistols - on May 22 at Gander Mountain in Aurora, Colo., according to the official, who spoke on condition of anonymity because the probe into the shootings is ongoing. The other purchases:
-On May 28, six days after purchasing the Glock, Holmes purchased the shotgun used in the shootings from Bass Pro Shops in Denver.
-On June 7, Holmes bought the AR-15 assault rifle used in the attacks at a Gander Mountain store in Thornton, Colo.
-On July 6, Holmes returned to the Bass Pro Shops store in Denver and bought the other Glock pistol.

There have always been murderers. What is new are those who kill strangers for no good reason. I believe Whitman was the first, down at UT Austin. That was in the sixties. Then the Manson "family". And it's spreading. The wheels are falling off our society, And the solution is easy, lock those nutcases up. Trouble is, we can't, that would be judgemental. When did a lack of judgement become a virtue?

"Correct me if I'm wrong but his whole attempt to use gas in the theater was useless, was it not?"
___________________________________________________
Actually, no, it wasn't. He achieved his goal of creating additional confusion and fear. And - it was another way of rendering himself untouchable. Think about it - you're planning this attack and you realize that, even though the theater is a "gun-free zone" (how well that works!), there still might very well be someone in the theater packing heat. So, you wear a bullet-proof vest and a helmet, you make a surprise entrance into a dark theater and you lob a couple of gas canisters into the crowd. Then you start shooting at random people. Think about it - even if you're sitting there with a pistol in your purse, the place is dark, smoky and people are screaming and jumping up all around you. How can you aim? How can you use your pistol in self-defense without risking hitting another innocent? Even if you did get a good bead on the guy - he's got the vest on. Holmes is evil, but he is really very smart - he made it impossible for even armed people to defend themselves in that situation.
Posted by: Donna V. at July 20, 2012 05:12 PM (EflcN)
Exactly. It was finding this innocent man culpable enough to report on solely because of his political affiliation.
The real tragedy is that Brian Ross is no worse a journalist than anyone else in his misbegotten field. It's riddled with a cancer of bias and is such an insular bubble they can't even detect their own prejudice on things as noxious as this.

I honestly cannot remember the last time I watched ANY national network newscast, but I wanted to see what and how things were being reported by the good ole MFM. Couldn't do CBS - wasn't going to touch ABC - so I held my nose and watched Brian Williams.
So far, I have not heard one word about the TinyDick Killer that could in any way be construed as aligning him with anything other than growing up in San Diego. It is indeed now kid-glove treatment, at least by NBC. The most egregious thing I have heard is Ann Curry defending a couple who was there with BOTH of their toddlers (4 years old/8 months old). Brian actually asked her, "Hey, can you answer the question that much of America might be thinking - what WERE children of that age doing at a midnught showing?" And she responded, ever so seriously, "Well, they're a young couple who needed a break and wanted to see this movie that everyone is talking about. And the children were sleeping." Face. Palm. More evidence of the horrific selfishness that is so prevalent and SO accepted (Sure, we have two kids and want to see a very late night movie, so you think we should pay money for a baby sitter? Hell, no!) The kids were sleeping? - WTF!! I'm so sure that the movie itself is a silent picture, right? Yes, those kids would have slept right through the surround sound soundtrack and audience reaction. But, take heart, these two wacky people weren't married and Ann wanted us to know that he proposed at the hospital last night (he was hit by shrapnel) knowing of what they now could lose. Great.
And while I absolutely know how awful and heart-breaking this event must have been, I am more than a little put-off by the never-ending somber music, the hushed tones, and the on-the-ground-I'm-in-my-shirtsleeves look of the reporters. The pointing out of the half-mast flags (which has come to mean very little). I think this was the work of a totally psychotic individual. Period. And I'm incredibly sorry that no one in that theatre was carrying.

Andrea Mitchell...
Stephanopolous...
Has anyone been fired for editing the Romney video at MSNBC? Or the Zimmerman 911 call at NBC? At least Dan Rather got fired, but that was eight years ago-- who gets fired for ridiculous bias any more? Keefums and others at MSNBC get dropped for being assholes to management, but it's become quite obvious that 'journalistic standards' are just a convenient, self-congratulatory fiction that their industry uses to pat itself on the back.

He said he wondered where Ethan was but realized he could not go back to get him. Rohrs finally jumped over the balcony and ended up outside.
"It just felt like the worst thing ever because my son's still in there," he told ABC News. "My girlfriend is still in there. I'm out here. Who leaves their child there?"
