Allah's Quotes of the Day from last night were especially good.
Gabe linked Tim Carney's great piece below; also worthy is Jonathan V. Last's.
When Democrats lose, however, they tend to place the blame a little higher. The Supreme Court is rigged. The election was stolen by Diebold voting machines. After John Kerry lost in 2004, Democrats snickered about an electoral map showing the “real America” being composed of the West Coast and Northeast. The rest of the map — the red states Bush carried — was dubbed “Jesusland.” The inference being that the real problem was with the American people. All of which is why, facing the prospect of losing the Obamacare case, the left’s first instinct hasn’t been to blame a bad law. Or bad lawyering. Or even just bad luck. No, to the liberal mind there are no bad outcomes; only broken systems. (In the Washington Post, Jonathan Turley claimed the very possibility Obamacare might be struck down suggested we should rethink the structure of the high court. He proposes we start by installing 10 more justices.)
And so, later this week liberal Democrats will condemn the high court as a body no longer fit to adjudicate our nationÂ’s laws. It will have to be reformed and remade before any American, anywhere, can sleep soundly.
We see this more and more, and without any shame-- When Democrats lose, their first impulse is to make it illegal for Republicans to win. They begin examining the ways in which "systems" failed to produce results they sought, and then "reform" those systems so that they can only produce liberal victories.
Obviously, this is antithetical to democracy and fair play. When a team in the NFL has a great running back, its rivals do not rush to change the rules to make running the ball illegal.
And yet that is what the Democrats keep doing, again and again.
And... The campaign against the "politicization" of the court continues. As Instapundit puts it-- Democrat Leaders to Supreme Court: If you don't vote our way, you're being political.

The hubris is astonishing. It certainly couldn't be that what they propose is unconstitutional/illegal*, it must be due to Republican/conservative machinations.
*Their intentions are pure, so it can't be unconstitutional/illegal. Everyone knows that good intentions are the test for constitutionality/legality.

My response to that was we should install 50 justices appointed by the States (1/State) at ever how the State wants to appoint them. Take it away from Washington altogether.

All I can say is this; thank God that there are nations in the Caribbean that are focusing investment on medical tourism. Even if our side sorta, half-way wins today (which is the best case scenario in my opinion) we're still going to be on a slippery slope. Sooner than we imagine, we will have to leave the US to get good care, and we will have to pay cash to do it. Alas - demand will be so high that costs will go up and up, as people flee the Leftist dystopia we are even now creating.
There will be no effort to restore a free market in health care, and our state solution will be the worst one yet. The Euro scum have the evils of state run health care, but at least some of their evils (euthanizing the old) mitigate other evils (a shortage due to overconsumption). The English are the very worst, of course, and have nothing good in their system at all - but the continentals at least make some basic effort to be rational about it. Our state run system will take all the worst elements of the English and Canadian systems, yet retain no good systems of any kind. It will be disaster. It will be 3rd world.

I think it helps to remember that the American Revolution came about before the Age of Ideology. In those days, the corruption was for personal gain. Now the corruption is for ideological gain. I'd rather vote for a conservative thief who raided the treasury rather than for the most honest and truthful Libtard.

People oppose this bill because of their own personal experiences with it. Premiums have gone up, not down. People are still unable to get insurance with pre-existing conditions. Doctors are taking early retirement. Already federal laws are imposing restrictions on procedures that were formerly routine. I have a huge collection of anecdotes about this stuff just from central Indiana.
So regardless of what the media says, people want this law to go away. So if it is upheld, it becomes a huge rallying point for November.
As far as the law being upheld setting precedent, well, we will have to figure something out, such as a constitutional amendment restricting the government's power to force purchases in the private market.

Constitutional concerns aside...no really, the three basic proffered pillars of The Thing were lower premiums, lower healthcare costs, and lower deficits.
NONE of the three stand up to any kind of rational analysis--even if rosy economic scenarios for the next decade are used. And that ain't Antonin Scalia's fault.

The days of stealing money from Social Security are over, the world is a more competitive place, and the days of the US supplying most of the world (i.e. post WWII 50's) are over. The Democrats are still in spend mode when we are already deep in debt. Worse off, eventually, perhaps already, the government borrowing with the FED's cheap money will undermine pensions of the retired.
Bottom line: we have to spend less

You know, screw the liberals. They got their fancy precident screwing happy time with Roe v. Wade, you haven't heard of anyone trying to pack the courts with 10 extra justices to fix that? Hell even talk about nominating justices who would overturn it is fairly muted in higher politics.
I don't like it, but I also recognize the only way it's gonna get fixed is with a damned constitutional amdendment.
Why can't libs see the same thing if Healthcare is overturned? Sure it sucks for them, they're perfectly free to amend the constitution (however unlikely that is.)

Makes sense to me. I go there to read, but have no interest "debating" mean nasty people yelling "racist" while making racist comments about Michelle Malking.
But I do enjoy the short bursts of snark from people like you, Iowahawk, Lileks, etc.

I like the idea of using the All-Powerful Commerce Clause to end abortion. Think about it 1) Commerce requires customers, 2) Customers are people, 3) we need more people, 4) ergo Congress can regulate abortion by way of the Commerce Clause. Ban abortions! It's for teh Commerce!
If that doesn't work, then a fund to subsidize adoption and adopted children, paid for by a modest tax on abortions. I think we start at the cost of raising a child which is north of $250k and negotiate down to $50k. Commerce again, bitches!

@ Joffen,
Shitcanned the lead manager yesterday and brought in a new one. Met with the principals yesterday and after I charted for them this guy's "performance" over the last 18 months (an unchecked slide from 50% of market share to 20%), they were wishing they fired him a year ago.
I expect more firings and resignations this week, as they have all been told that accountability is back in style.

@AllenG,
LIV=Low Info Voters
Longer answer is: They see "Good" for them as things that can be painted as "benefiting them" especially at "little cost."
And before you go into a tirade about cost increases (that I agree with) remember for most of these people Insurance is just a magic box that produces care, so they are capable of incredible cognitive dissonance when it comes to "prices increasings" vs. "but the law made this 'free'"

I was paying less before routine care when I didn't have insurance, when you factor in the portion of the premium I'm paying, and the portion my employer is paying instead of giving me cash. High-deductible HSA; the part I really resent is in addition to sucking a thousand dollars out of me every month, the coverage doesn't kick in until I spend another $1500, but I can't just pay that at the office visit like I'm used to doing, I have to wait six weeks for a bill. If I don't have a catastrophe--and I used to have a catastrophic plan for less than a tenth of my employer's shitty "comprehensive" plan--I'm just burning money. And in a way that I can't even toast marshmallows.
But hey, it allows my cow-orkers' adult children can get free birth control, so I can't bitch, right?

There just ain't nuthin' like hanging with the Horde before a momentous occasion such as this. I am a bit nervous and apprehensive and hope this whole POS gets canned.
But, if not, then on to plan B, which is repeal and start all over with free market solutions like tort reform and interstate competition. Naturally, this will involve getting as many conservatives in office in Nov as possible, a not-unlikely scenario given the '010 midterm election.
BTW, when is the House vote on Holder due?

Last month, another probe by the Insolvency Service prompted the High Court to shut down a web of companies that it says made 6.5 million pounds by mis-selling land and carbon credits and were linked by the name Manor Rose.
The business practice often involves cold-calling and misleading private investors into thinking they were buying U.N. carbon credits that can be used by governments and companies to meet legally-binding emission reduction targets.
In fact, the credits offered were not regulated by the U.N. and were unlikely to meet future price projections for U.N. credits that the sellers portrayed in glossy marketing brochures from banks such as Barclays.

Well you'd be a High Info Voter wouldn't you?
I remember when we got my wife's insurance, we compared a Consumer Driven High Deductible (CDHD) plan, with standard insurance.
The way my wife's job works out, the CDHD plan wasn't a great deal, because her job pays 2/3 of your premium *regardless of the premium value* so if the total savings of the CDHD plan was $90 we'd only see a $30/month savings.
The CDHD plan put some of the premium each month into a HSA for you automatically.
So we did all the complex math, and determined that (even with the premium kickback in the CDHD) the traditional plan was not much more expensive (I think it was like $100/year difference) but provided less exposure to risk overall (and better maternity care should we decide to have kids.) Furthermore, when I move onto the plan (after my job and my insurance runs out) it gets better because the CDHD didn't scale the premium kickback intelligently for the "family" plan.
Our cautious nature paid off slightly as my wife had a severe muscle spasm this year and couldn't move her arm and neck that required several cortisone injections and some PT. We could have afforded it fine under the CDHD plan, but we hedged our risk differently. (Next year perhaps nothing will happen and we'll be relatively "down" money.)

To them there is only "our reform" or "no reform". If you don't want their reform then you don't want reform at all. It's like global warming. If you believe the earth warms and cools you have to believe their reason, that man causes it - you can't simply believe that it does this in natural cycles or you deny warming altogether.
Any conservative who has ever gotten a bill for $10,000 for a 2 hour ER visit agrees the system needs reform, just not THEIR reform.
