Liveblogging the GOP Debate
— andy

Please, SMOD. Make it stop!!!

CNN. 8pm. *** LIVESTREAM ***

The NRO Editors noticed that we shouldn't do 14,320 MFM-moderated debates next time around.

The semiotic search for the racism beneath Newt’s food-stamp line. The dismissal of “the Constitution” in haughty air quotes. The wasting of primetime minutes pondering which wife would make the best first lady. The obsessive deposing of Romney on the legality of condoms. The condescending identity politics of carting out a token Latino to ask an immigration question. The dings. The bells. The buzzers. The Google Chat notification tones. The frightful specter of Donald Trump’s coiffure lurking around the next corner.

These are just some of the lowlights of the umpteen Republican debates thus far. And with the exception of The DonaldÂ’s ill-fated quest to moderate, they were all brought to us by the mainstream media. ThatÂ’s the same media that daily carry water for the Obama administration, approach the tea parties as anthropological curiosities, and persistently skew the public discourse leftward in ways large and small, conscious and unconscious. So why on earth should conservatives trust them to play any substantial role in the selection of our presidential standard-bearer?

Welcome to the party, pal.

Standard reminder: Your comments do not automatically display. So don't ask "Why aren't my comments displaying?" They don't display.

They're not posted comments a la chat room. Instead they go to queue, which the producers (cobloggers) read, and we post them, by hand, if we think they make a good point.

Liveblog thingy below the fold.

454 Hello, welcome to the world of women. I remember not being able to open a bank account without the hubbies sig. Jobs, nurse and teacher.. I couldn't find a girls sports team but my daughter played division one basketball. Number of Women in Congress Drops for First Time in 32 Years Tuesday, November 09, 2010 Jeannette Rankin (R-Montana), the first woman to be elected to Congress (1916) There were 93 women serving in the U.S. CongressÂ…until last weekÂ’s election. The 2010 campaign was not friendly to women, whose numbers in the House and Senate will drop once the 112th Congress convenes. The decline marks the first time in three decades that female representation has fallen in Washington. From the late1970s until this year, the number of women representatives and senators steadily increased, from 17 in the 96th Congress (1979-1981) to a record high of 93 in the 111th Congress (2009-2011). The exact number of women in the new Congress is not known because three races involving women are still undecided. If current vote totals hold up, there will be 17 women in the Senate and 73 in the House of Representatives, for a total of 90 (61 Democrats and 29 Republicans). This would mean that women will make up only 16.8% of the members of Congress, leaving the United States tied with Turkmenistan for 73rd place in the world in terms of female legislative representation.

466 459 444 Those differences have NOTHING to do with serving in our military. Female combat pilot wants to kick Santorum 'in the jimmy' for remarks on women in battle February 17, re2012 WASHINGTON -- A retired female fighter pilot running for former Rep. Gabrielle Giffords' open seat in Congress said Friday that Rick Santorum's recent remarks on women in combat make her want to "go kick him in the jimmy." Martha McSally, a retired US Air Force colonel and a veteran of the war in Afghanistan, is running in Arizona's congressional special election as a Republican. According to her Facebook page, she was the first American woman to fly in combat since the 1991 lifting of a ban on women in that role. Appearing Friday morning on FOX News Channel's "FOX & Friends," she called the Republican presidential candidate "completely out of touch" for saying that the "emotions" felt by men seeing a female soldier in harm's way may jeopardize their mission. "You know I agree with many of the things that Rick Santorum says, you know, but when I heard this I really just wanted to go kick him in the jimmy," McSally said, prompting laughter in the studio. "He's totally out of touch," she continued. "I mean, completely out of touch. These are the types of arguments we heard 20, 25 years ago as to why women couldn't be fighter pilots. It's an insult to the men and women who are serving overseas, putting their lives on the line and focusing on the mission right now."

It should be axiomatic in a rational, mature culture that women should not go into combat. But we are neither rational nor mature, so you are pissing into the wind on this one.

We will have women in combat.
We will have women captured and gang raped for months.
We will have rescue operations in which many men are killed to save the above mentioned women.
We will have men die in combat because their fellow (female) soldiers were not strong enough and fast enough and mean enough to save them.

And on and on and on....

552 Hey guys, you really are going to have to accept that women are equal. Your days of superiority are over. Posted by: guest at February 22, 2012 10:14 PM (3izs/) You're really going to have to rethink what you mean by 'equality'. Most men don't question the equality of women. The vast majority of us, however, don't buy that women are the same as men or can perform as well as men in certain situations. Women think differently than men, they respond differently under stress, there are myriad differences in hormonal makeup and body chemistry. They are not, by and large, as physically strong as men, which is a definite factor in positions requiring strength and endurance. Would women make capable combat pilots? Sure, it's proven. Would women make good infantrymen? No, they wouldn't. Does the presence of women in a combat ground unit change the group dynamic? Yes, it does. For the worse? Definitely. Are young, healthy men and women placed in close quarters for long periods of time going to form romantic entanglements? You bet. Will those relationships screw with operational efficiency? Without a doubt. Is proving a politically correct point worth loss of lives or the failure of the mission? No. Women cannot do some things as well as men can. Men cannot do some things as well as women can. You cannot will those differences away or pretend those differences don't exist. Well, you can pretend those differences don't exist, I guess, but pretending doesn't change reality.

I need to hear why these guys are going to be good for the GOP and america. I don't want to hear how long they are willing to extend unemployment payments or how they feel about a mandated 35 hour work week by making Friday and almost half day. I don't want to hear them being asked to explain away things that they said that are viewed as mildly distasteful to the publisher of a free San Francisco community music scene tabloid. I don't want to hear how they are going to work for the unions and cut military spending. I don't want to see them being asked to buy into stupid leftist non-mainstream narratives and premise. I don't want to see them made fun of by someone who obviously knows less about a topic than they do. This is supposed to be OUR primary. Why are their issues even being mentioned? Their approval is NOT required or valuable in this venue. the candidates are NOT trying to run to be the democratic candidate. It just makes the whole thing into a dull stupid useless farce.

It took two to tango and therefore the hubby should do half the work.

That flies, so long as you're brining in half the income.

And if you are, I suggest you hire a maid - unless you're going to do half the voluntary custom motorcycle building in the garage - because men tend to have a different standard of tidy and no one is under any obligation to do half your hobbies for you.

581 First time to this site and I have to say you you are very witty. It is different and quick! I am encouraged when I see quality like this. Keep up the great work. Here is a little insight. Obama has a campaign called; "Are You In"? If you do a search you will see the family photo that they are using. Look at the right side next to the youngest daughter. There is a reflection or something that looks really evil lurking out at Obama. In the search I did, I learned that their is a song out by the same name;"Are you In", by the band "Incubus"! I did a wiki search of that and it said it to be an old Latin word; " a demon in a man's form". Talk about a 'PR' train wreck! Glad to be working with such quality people. It will make the defeat of Obama all the better. Check out www.bush-it-usa.com. With future illustrations, hope to prove that Art is Powerful. Peace.
