Meanwhile yet another poll (the fifth in two weeks) showing Michigan a tie came out today.

But remember, PPP, 2012 "looks more and more like 2008". All is well. You're polling finds Obama doing several points better than any other firm, in every state, and that's gotta be because everybody else is wrong, right? Sure, your polling skews all the current averages more favorably to the President, but you're in great company: Bloomberg says Obama is up wider than any President since Reagan in 1984.

Sleep well. You were only wrong by 50% of the margin on Wisconsin and AZ-8. No possible problems with that big an error anyway. Besides, batting .000 is at least better than Research2000 could say right now.

Which reminds me...this map posted Friday sure doesn't look so crazy now, does it?

49 BELLEFONTE, Pa.— Jerry Sandusky wants “people to know that he’s not guilty,” a lawyer for the retired Penn State assistant football coach said Monday. Sandusky — once considered Hall of Fame coach Joe Paterno’s heir apparent — was convicted Friday of 45 counts for sexually abusing 10 boys over 15 years. Karl Rominger, who helped defend the 68-year-old retired defensive coach, visited him at the Centre County jail, where he is being kept under observation and away from other inmates pending a psychological review that will help determine the next step toward his sentencing, which is in about three months. “He’s defiant and wants the truth to be told. He wants people to know that he’s not guilty,” Rominger said. “That would be his hope.”

Chances are if that happens the Republicans will have the popular vote. They will certainly have the delegations in more than 26 states. I guess that is the disadvantage for the Democratic party being restricted to the East Coast and West Coast socialist enclaves.

83 Who cares if there's a 269-269 tie?  It's not as if the outcome of the election would be in doubt, since the GOP has a strong majority of House delegations (and yes, it's done by DELGATION COUNT -- the state of IL votes as one based on the number of Representatives they have from one party vs. another, and in a bit of delicious irony Illinois would cast a vote for Romney).

I just want to win.  Win pretty, win ugly?  Fuck it -- just win, baby.

100 >>>So your assumption is they would try to settle it in a legal fashion and play by the rules?

It's not an assumption.  It's operation of law.  There is literally no other procedure that can possibly be done to decide.  The Constitution is crystal-clear on the mechanism for deciding an electoral college tie.  It's not as if the Democrats and Obama can stage a coup at that point (no, sorry -- I hate Obama as much as anyone here, but that is not going to fucking happen).

Spare me the gratuitous bodysnatchers-style paranoid.  In the event of an Electoral College tie we win, and while the Dems and the media will bitchbitchbitch (though actually they won't even be able to do that if Romney wins the popular vote -- what would be the basis for claiming that Obama should win an EV tie on "moral grounds" if Romney was the popular vote victor?) it won't make one fucking lick of difference.  Chill, my friend.

113 PPP is a joke of an outfit in 2012.

Their state-level numbers directly contradict the high-frequency, large sample national trackers and everything we know about how demographics couple each state to the top-line nationals.

They fucked up Wisconcin's recall, which is a known data-point where we have their projection and the result and they have yet to alter their bizarre sampling patterns.

Tom Jensen is a joke: it was funny when he went on twitter to gloat about his and the Barret internal pollster's numbers after the [faulty] WI exits were released -- he only got it wrong by what.... over twice the projected differential? (3% verse 7% win)

But Barret could pull it out if it looks like 2008 on steroids, right PPP?!

In the words of Capt O'Hagen: "I'll believe ya when me shit turns purple and smells like rainbow sherbet."

Michigan has some surprises yet. The dems in Detroit are still recovering from the Kwame fiasco and the Wayne County exec scandals. Many of them are screaming enough is enough, especially as the new Detroit fiscal crisis has shown how bad things were, and still are. In fact a lot of rumours going around ( I denounce myself in advance ) that a moderate fiscally responsible democrat named Mike Duggan of the caucasion persuasion is the leading likely candidate for mayor of the motor city when Bing decides not to seek a second term, or is bounced by Duggan in a primary.

And Snyder is behind the scenes, working some magic.

Michigan may be purple today, but expect it to go red soon. Detroit and other dem turnout will be weak, no question about it.

And some of us think Michigan is quite ready to put Mitt in office.

122 How are MA, CT, and NJ not as hard blue as NY? Sorry, I don't buy that. I spend considerable time in all those places, and they are no less crazy left than is NY. And lefties either can't confess to or simply can't recognize their prior misjudgments--they'll double down on O. Unless it's a total wipe-out tsunami for Romney across the nation there's no way those states go red.

The U.S. Army is conducting training in St. Louis June 21-28. Police said residents in the police department's sixth district may be most likely to see the vehicles. The sixth district includes neighborhoods in north St. Louis. The vehicles will be like the one in the above photo.

But he is a NJ Republican, which is quite a different creature than the millions of Republicans we need to vote Romney into office. Wisconsin shows how important an effective ground game is, how crushing its power--but I can assure you that there is ZERO, ZILCH, NADA Republican ground game here in MA--Republicans hold 4 of 40 (10%) State Senate seats and 33 out of 160 (20%) House seats. It's nothing short of pathetic. I suspect that the same is essentially true in CT and NJ.

141 I am thinking either he really wants this and will keep doubling down on everything and things get so out of control that he will declare martial law right before the elections or he really thinks he will get by on just his charm. A few months ago I would have laughed this off as paranoia. Sadly, not today. This Administration has already shown that they are willing to ignore any laws they don't like or they consider inconvenient. They did it with the backdoor Amnesty, they've done it again today by revoking 287g for Arizona after losing in the Supreme Court. The law means nothing to them - so now what I once would have shrugged off as paranoia I have to stop and consider as a possible reality. Sad, but true.

142 Paying attention to states only matters if it's close to a 50-50 outcome. Why should we expect anything different from the 2010 House nationals totals -- there has been convergence between House numbers and Presidential numbers. Best guess for 2012 is 2010, which would be near landslide for Romney.

Tried to walk outside with a crying baby- silly me! The homes and buildings had once been gracious. I can't remember the last time there was not a democrat holding every city office. Probably since the time my parents sprawled us out to the county, 40 years ago.

149 Christ, Obama is not going to declare marital law if he loses. Marital law requires the support of the military... which he doesn't have. Or it would require support among the National Guard... which are run by the states. He's going to bitch and moan about the need for election "reform" or some such blather and then take a 7 figure job touring and speaking. He's either sinister or incompetent. All evidence points to him being utterly incompetent and people expect him to arrange a coup? If he did, it would be the end of the Democratic Party and he would spend the rest of his life in a jail cell. Give me a break.

150 I am cheered, and wish to share my cheer. My brother's new girlfriend's family voted for the SCOAMT and are ALL voting Romney this time. Middle class. About the first thing anyone in my family said when meeting her for the first time on Father's Day was to ask who she's voting for. Cut to the chase.

Posted by: Justamom at June 25, 2012 06:25 PM (Sptt8)

151 Martial law wouldn't necessarily mean no election. Just an escort to the polls. That idea of making voting mandatory didn't float really well, did it? Call up the guard to escort all urban voters to vote.

Posted by: Justamom at June 25, 2012 06:27 PM (Sptt8)

152 We have some friends who keep telling us that there will be no elections and I think.. oh c'mon.. this is America. That can't happen. Sadly, as you say, I am really re-thinking things. The thing that scares me the most? This last power grab where he's decided he will not enforce the law when it comes to a certain block of illegals. As far as I can tell there has been some minor grumbling from a few members of Congress, but I think so far the strongest complaint I've heard from the Republican's in Congress amounted to "We oppose the process" or something to that effect. Opposed the process? What the hell is wrong with you people? You have just granted the President of the United States the power to decide which federal laws will be enforced, and which ones won't. That is pretty terrifying stuff, to say the least.

Posted by: StuckOnStupid at June 25, 2012 06:31 PM (R5yLq)

153 Obama will revision "democracy" and we will all vote in our preassigned soviets to unanimously cheer Fearless Leader. I've been reading Solzhenitsyn's Gulag Archapelago, and their methods are the type that the modern radical left would be very happy with...

Posted by: The Political Hat at June 25, 2012 06:32 PM (XYqoq)

154 Oh, on another aside - I think martial law is probably a serious long shot. Yes, the President and his cronies have an uncanny ability to manufacture a crisis to which they supposedly are forced to respond - but I don't see a scenario at least at the moment where they could pull it off. My real concern here is that I have no doubt that this next election will be overrun with fraud, particularly in battleground states. Far more so than you would see in a normal election. I also think that the democrats will do anything, absolutely anything to win.

Posted by: StuckOnStupid at June 25, 2012 06:45 PM (R5yLq)

155 If you're saying that the SCOAMF will institute martial law, stop and think for a moment how similar you sound to Naomi Wolf and the Bush critics who swore that we would never see a 2008 election or the peaceful transfer of power. Keep it lucid, people and keep your head in the game.

Posted by: Moonbeam at June 25, 2012 06:51 PM (1k4dd)

156 87 Who cares if there's a 269-269 tie? It's not as if the outcome of the election would be in doubt, since the GOP has a strong majority of House delegations (and yes, it's done by DELGATION COUNT -- the state of IL votes as one based on the number of Representatives they have from one party vs. another, and in a bit of delicious irony Illinois would cast a vote for Romney).

I just want to win. Win pretty, win ugly? Fuck it -- just win, baby.
