— Ace Since Mad As Hell is out at Red Lobster eating like a King!!!, I guess we're permitted to relax.
So, here's a fun-time thread.
I have to mention this: Thank you to everyone who offered to guest blog. I will write back to you, soon.
However, I have now realized: My snap decision to take a vacation on Monday did not leave me enough time to actually arrange for my time off. So I'ma gonna push it back to the following week, which will give me all week to write a How to Blog email and send it out.
Thanks. So it'll be the following week.
I'll see if I can't get Mad as Hell to contribute some of his wisdom during my downtime.

Someone in another thread about the guys having beer and paying the bill like our taxes. I always loved that one so I wrote my own a few years back. When I think of how we're taxed I am mad as hell. Feel free to share this.
Let me tell you a story about a 2X4 that went into a home. The land that grew the wood is taxed, The seedling the farmer bought was taxed. The equipment he used to plant and maintain the tree is taxed. The farmer was taxed when he sold the timber. The mill paid tax on the truck and gas just to get it there. Then the mill paid tax on the machines used to process the wood. They pay taxes for the mill itself. The workers who work at the mill had their wages taxed. Then the mill was taxed when they sold the lumber. The lumber yard paid tax on the truck and fuel tax to get it to the stores. The store pays tax on their store, the employees etc. They then sell the lumber, they are taxed on that. Now your contractor buys the wood. He's taxed on it via sales tax. He paid sales tax on all his equipment being used to build the home to cut the wood and nail it in place. His employees pay tax on their wages while building the home. The land the home is on is taxed. The contractor now sells someone the home. The profit is taxed. Now the consumer buys the home. Taxed again, the 2x4 that was taxed so many times is now in the wall of the home where the owner will pay property taxes as long as he owns the home. He will do so by paying with money made at his job, which of course is taxed as well. And weÂ’re not taxed enough?

Your pick. I've been wavering on getting in and was going to ask around on the gaming thread last weekend, but there wasn't one. I guess the choice is east coast vs. west coast, I'm probably closer to east (Chicago) to the extent it matters. The server populations seem about the same.

In France, like most of the world, "law and order" are not separate and there are no juries. An 'examining magistrate' works directly with the police to determine what, if anything, to charge you with. Cops therefore are more 'street police', as most detective work is done by special agencies within the National Police or by magistrates.
In "Spiral" , whichever English person is doing the translation does not know the appropriate equivalent of police agencies, and either there have been three different translators or the very old English lady they're using is gradually getting better

Evening all. I had an eye opening day at work. I am Reg. Dir. of Sales for a fortune 400, and have been working on reviewing sales goals for reps in 2013. One of our hotshot 28 yr old, single, talented reps. did not increase his goal even 10% rather, kept it at 2012 level. So, we had a chat and he explained that he ran the calculations based on what he thinks his increased tax liability will be and figured that he would have to actually increase 17% to financially make it worth his while to go into a new tax bracket. That in a "normal" world you would just jack the 401K and IRA and park it. However, he doesn't feel like loosing it when the Govt decides to take our retirement accts. Then he explained that the economic outlook appears shakey enough and clients are inert due to not knowing what to expect that he anticipates struggling to make it to the 2012 goal. Either way, he's thought it through. My disgust with our Govt is complete. A young, smart, energetic, creative guy like this should be thinking about how he's going to get to the next level in his success. This is what they are doing to the next generation of producers. They are stripping them of dreams of what their success in life can provide them. The lowering of expectations has begun and those people who try to make people understand that our kids and grandkids will have a lower standard of living are spot on. We are seeing it begin by the lowered expectations and developement of a survival instinct instead of a success driven American Dream.

For many, being on assistance is the best living they've ever had. They have no problem with the forms or the waiting lines because they receive a better life than what they themselves can manage to eke out.
Whether that says something only about them or the country or both, I'm not sure.

I know this was a tongue-in-cheek post to make fun of MadAsHell, but how's this for a strategy for the Senate in 2014:
Demonize the living hell out of Harry Reid (I mean by running ads and having every Republican pol and spokesperson bash him nonstop) and then tie every single Dem Senate candidate to him in every state where there will be a Senate election in 2014. They voted for this vile freak for Majority Leader, make the fuckers own it. It shouldn't be that hard. I can't think of anybody who would be easier to demonize. He isn't likeable, he looks like a child molester, his voice is creepy as fuck, and his own words can be used against him to devastating effect.
For instance you could have an ad portraying him as a semi-psychotic, creepy old pervert. Play the clip of him saying Kristin Gillibrand is the hottest member of the Senate, then cut away to Buffalo Bill from Silence of the Lambs saying "it rubs the lotion on it's skin or else it gets the hose again". Then cut back to Reid saying Chris Coons is his pet. Then cut to Buffalo Bill saying "it places the lotion in the basket". I'm sure there's an abundance of video of him saying creepy things that could be mashed-up with quotes from movie psychos. And every Republican who has the balls to do so should imply that Reid is a creepy old pervert every opportunity they get.
Then you can have an ad portraying him an angry, miserable old fool. The clips of him calling people "evil-mongers" and talking about how the tourists stink up the Capitol building would work here, but again, I'm sure there's much more that could be used.
Third, hit him hard on his attempt to end the filibuster. Clip after clip of Dem Senators going batshit crazy over the discussion of using the nuclear option to get a nominee confirmed, interspersed with Reid talking about ending the filibuster. Paint Reid as an extremist and the rest of them as shameless, craven, lying hipocrits.
Then go after him on his failure to pass a single budget in his entire tenure as majority leader. Beat the hell out of him over this. Blame him for the country's fiscal mess and blame every Dem Senate candidate for making him Majority Leader.
Dehumanize him and make him radioactive, and then use him to tar the rest of the Dem candidates by association. Hammer home the point that no matter how nice and upstanding the Dem candidate seems they are nothing but Harry Reid's puppet, and if they are elected, the vile, corrupt, lying, incompetent, irresponsible, immoral, hipocritical, sexually-deviant criminal Harry Reid, who might even be a child molester, will remain Senate Majority Leader. And we can't have reprehensible scum like Harry Reid as Majority Leader, can we?

Sure, you'll probably stumble now and then. Probably find yourself in a bathhouse going down on some hairless twink and think in despair, "why does this keep happening?" It's ok. Both of which would make great band names, I should hasten to add.

The launcher is insisting on 25GB of space on my C drive and won't let me change the destination.
I actually only have one drive but the computer, as I understand it, sees it as four and I don't know how to shift space from one section to another if it's even possible.

That's how I read it, gigg. I had somewhat of a similar thought yesterday, when some woman was bitching to me about how SS wouldn't let her get payments early for disability because she can technically work. The poor dear is already defrauding the government for disability payments because she 'has agent orange and ptsd from Vietnam,' which, for a woman veteran, is virtually fucking impossible.
Government-check fraud is so widespread and popular that it's not even covered up or considered fraud anymore.
I really should have admonished her for actually *bitching* to me about not being able to expand the scope of her looting and cheating and dishonesty. That would have been the correct thing to do. The problem with conservatives is that we are confronted with this stuff on a daily basis but are too polite or apathetic to say anything or pass judgement or verbally discourage this kind of behavior.
We need to start pointing this stuff out publicly and saying that it is wrong.
When people start talking about 'taxing the rich,' we need to ask them if they want more rich people in this country, or fewer?
When they talk about 'giving to the poor,' we need to ask them what the poor aren't getting right now? We need to ask them if we want more poor people in the country, or fewer? And all the downstream questions that discussion raises, too.
Every day we don't engage intelligently with the unconscious leftist programming that so many people cluelessly vomit, we lose.

There's a place in the world for the angry young man
With his working class ties and his radical plans
He refuses to bend, he refuses to crawl,
He's always at home with his back to the wall.
And he's proud of his scars and the battles he's lost,
He struggles and bleeds as he hangs on the cross-
And he likes to be known as the angry young man.
Give a moment or two to the angry young man,
With his foot in his mouth and his heart in his hand.
He's been stabbed in the back, he's been misunderstood,
It's a comfort to know his intentions are good.
He sits in a room with a lock on the door,
With his maps and his medals laid out on the floor
And he likes to be known as the angry young man.
I believe I've passed the age of consciousness righteous rage
I found that just surviving was a noble fight.
I once believed in causes too, I had my pointless point of view,
Life went on no matter who was wrong or right,
And there's always a place for the angry young man,
With his fist in the air and his head in the sand.
And he's never been able to learn from mistakes,
He can't understand why his heart always breaks.
His honor is pure and his courage as well,
He's fair and he's true and he's boring as hell!
And he'll go to the grave as an angry old man.
Whoa, and there's always a place for the angry young man
With his working class ties and his radical plans
He refuses to bend, he refuses to crawl,
He's always at home with his back to the wall.
And he's proud of his scars and the battles he's lost,
He struggles and bleeds ‘til he hangs on the cross
And he likes to be known as the angry young man.
