— LauraW Current State Of The National Race:
'All Dead Inside Now' still commands an insurmountable advantage over all.
Obama edges both Mitt and Gingrich; Mitt gaining more ground over Gingrich.
Despair not. A new candidate has thrown his enormous bulk into the field. A Mr. SMOD. Campaign announcement materials received by AOSHQ are below the fold.

"Howdy! I am an enormous chunk of rock hurtling through space for now, but hoping for a chance to profoundly change the world for the better. I want to stop the partisan sniping and bickering of rivals that characterizes the political process. And I want you to never have to vote for the lesser of two evils ever again. My platform: Death. To expunge. The annihilation of all life on Earth. Some say I am naive and doomed to failure, since bacteria, certain ocean creatures, and some insects will surely survive my planet-wracking onslaught. I concede that my critics may technically have a point.
But the truth is, I've always been a 'half-a-loaf-of-bread-is-better-than-none' kind of guy."
SMOD: An End To Politics As Usual. Forever.
This Candidate Has Been Endorsed By The Sierra Club™
Oh, my. My, my. Hm. I like how he said, "Howdy."
That connects powerfully to a) the Heartland demographic who b) wants the world to end suddenly in violent chaos as soon as possible.
Shrewd. Very well played.
Well!
Looks like All Dead Inside seems to have some competition now, eh Morons!
Oh, this is going to be a lively race indeed. We will be sure to keep you updated as to Mr. SMOD's progress. We're going to be guessing his trajectory and selling squares for placing bets on the impact location at the Amazon store.
The top prize will be that you were right about something just before death. That will be a very nifty moment for you.
On to our regularly scheduled Meet The Candidates Revival Post.
In 2010, we ran an occasional showcase for Moron-approved House and Senate candidates and hey why not, let's do it again.
In the comments below, please name the candidates running for national office that you like, preferably from your state, but not necessarily, if they're really that exciting to you.
I will compile a list of your recommendations and try to showcase one or two of them on a weekly or biweekly basis. If you could include a little url or two in there to help me out research-wise that would be great, because there are going to be a lot of these and it's already a pretty time-consuming project.
If you're too embarrassed to publicly admit who you are supporting, you may email me directly at laura w tips AT hot mail DOOT COOM.

I'm supporting Keith Rothfus. He's running for Congress in the newly formed PA-12.
Pennsylvania lost a House seat in redistricting, so they merged PA-4 and PA-12 into the new PA-12.
The old PA-12 was Jack Murtha's district.
Both PA-4 and PA-12 have democratic Representatives, Jason Altmire and Mark Critz. They will have to run against each other in a primary since the districts were merged.
Keith Rothfus ran in 2010 against Altmire and lost by about 3,000 votes. He's running again, unopposed in the primaries. He's a Reagan conservative.
I spent two hours with him yesterday walking door to door getting petitions signed to ensure he's on the ballot.

The only other thing I want is to see Claire McCaskill tossed out on her fat ass. John Brenner is running against her. Jacob Turk is running against Emanuel Cleaver for the 4th time. Has a better shot this time with the re-districting. But if he loses this one, he needs to hang it up.

Barry Hickley is challenging Sheldon Whitehouse for senate in Rhode Island. He's got a shot.
Scott Brown will face a fight in MA. I like his chances.
In Barney Frank's old district, which is open this time, Sean Bielat has a very good shot of winning. MA-4.
Throw them some jack. I'll be volunteering for all of them.

There was that one time he was caught saying, "It's a baby-killer." or somesuch back around the Obamacare debate.
But, I never see his name leading anything.
The impression I get is he somehow or other has a significant personal wealth and good connections with the cotton farmers. Which pretty much means the office is his until retirement. As long as he always votes for the current Farm Bill welfare handout.
I've met him a few times, a nice grandpa-with-hearing-aids fellow.
There's no reason for me to vote in November; anyone I can vote for will win this county with 65%+.

Candidate Smod, I do like the cut of his/her jib. If it is at all possible, I would like to have landfall somewhere far enough away so that death does not immediately occur in my vicinity.
Why?
Because of course, I would like to have some relatively short amount of time in which to mete out some of that sweet, sweet death to those I deem worthy. Yes, we all die eventually, what better way for me however, to be the bringer of their demise. It might help ALL of us achieve some closure... because I'm a giver!

I just wanted to second (third?) Mourdock over Lugar for senate here in Indiana. I did some phone banking for Mourdock last week, and the general sense of the campaign is he's got a real shot against Lugar. The high energy voters in the primaries are the Mourdock supporters; the only problem will be if a bunch of old, low information people get out and vote Lugar out of force of habit.
The primary happens in early May. It goes without saying that the Republican candidate will win the general here, so it's a chance to make a red senator redder in the primary.

The [VA] state Senate this afternoon gave preliminary approval for legislation that would require pregnant women to undergo ultrasound imaging before an abortion, but not before rejecting a Democratic senator’s attempt to add what she described as “ a little gender equity” to the bill.

Republican is John Koster. I was going to back James Watkins who ran and lost in 2010 to incumbent Jay Inslee but Watkins who I think is the better candidate, in a very classy move bowed out to help run Kosters campaign.
Due to a redrawing of the district and Inslee deciding he would rather get his ass kicked running for governor instead of running for re election, the Republican candidate has a chance this time.

In fairness, it depends on the type of sonogram. There is one for early pregnancy that is very...ummm..invasive.
Posted by: Mandy P. voted and is All Dead Inside now at January 31, 2012 11:24 AM (qFpRI)
A vaginal ultrasound IS invasive, and a vector for infection, from beta strep, resistant yeast, e-coli, staph, etx, and viruses. Unlike sterile surgical instruments, there is no putting a transponder in an autoclave.
Even in good practices maintaining standards of high level disinfection is difficult and time consuming and operators make mistakes in sterile technique allowing condoms or gloves to touch cabinet, table or keyboard surfaces. The poly sheath covers are notorious for breaking and exposing patients. Ususally a condom is employed instead - latex can cause reactions from minor irritation to death, but polyurethane condoms strong enough to resist breaking would be used only in patients with known allergies as they are expensive. The gel in the transponder crevices is not always scrubbed out between uses and there is risk of contamination of the gel on the outside; even good doctor's offices do not always use single use packs for that (if they don't, get off the table, and flee)
and since the transponder can not be sterilized, and cost thousands of dollars, even run of the mill Ob gyn practices often cut corners.
Mandating an unecessary invasive procedure like transvaginal ultrasound, that increases risk with no corresponding medical benefit to the treated patient is not only monkeying with the doctor patient relationship but increasing the risks of harm to the patient. I couldn't support that, especially when it has next to no impact on a woman's decision to end a really early pregnancy.

In PA, the GOP Gov. Tom Corbett, elected in the 2010 Tea Party wave, strong-armed the endorsement of Steve Welch for Senate, to take on incumbant Bob Casey.
State Committee rank and file, the peons who man the phones and knock on doors, were shoved aside.
Steve Welch became a Democrat in 2008 to vote for Obama. That is the party establishment's choice for Senate.
I don't know how many of the other Republicans are staying in the race, but when I find out I will pass them on. Pathetic.

Fool! SMOD's name is not on the ballot. But he himself will be on the ballot, on all of them. Fiery fragments of his self will rain down on your ballots and consume them in flame. As is his right under the 1st and 14th Amendments.

243: This begs a question--why is nobody making an effort to replace the people on these State Committees? We're not going to get anywhere in the GOP without doing that first--shouldn't that be a high priority goal?
Posted by: DarkLord©, Rogue Commenter at January 31, 2012 12:18 PM
Absolutely. Anyone can run. Often whoever is lucky enough to draw the top one or two ballot positions wins. Same with taking over county GOP committees. You just have to run in your precinct -- basically the size of a few neighborhoods. That's where things get done. Not on the internet. (Love ya, Ace.)
People don't realize that they can get off the sidelines and get in the battle. I forced my way onto my county committee, and I am indeed a moron.

Welch too Democratic? Take a look at the other top finisher who's also staying in the race for the Republican Senate nod:
"Tom Smith was a registered Democrat until 2011, and briefly served as a Dem county committeeman (he was kicked off for supporting Republicans)."
"Pennsylvania: Yeah, suuuure we'll turn Red some day -- honestly."

252:
Yeah, Welch too Democratic.
Beyond Welch and Smith, there were three other candidates, including a businessman and the former State Rep. who ran against Corbett.
The foot soldiers asked for the committe to not endorse and let the voters decide. They were lined up and shot.*
*I think. The details are sketchy.
