Meet The Candidates, 2012
— LauraW

Haven't forgotten about this...it's just that nothing is really happening yet.

Still, let me know in comments about any significant local races you're watching, or exciting candidates that you think the other Morons should hear about. I'll be compiling the information and posting candidate spotlights later on, as the races start to warm up.

Via Keith Koffler, President Obama's schedule for today.

10:35 am || Departs the White House

Noon || Arrives Columbus, Ohio

1:20 pm || Delivers remarks at a campaign event; Value City Arena-Schottenstein Center, Columbus, Ohio

2:55 pm || Departs Columbus

4:00 pm || Arrives Richmond, Virginia

4:55 pm || Delivers remarks at a campaign event; Verizon Wireless Arena-Stuart C. Siegel Center, Richmond

5:55 pm || Departs Richmond

6:50 pm || Arrives White House

Lest you think this is only his new routine because he has launched his reelection campaign today (snortle!), there is a chronological archive.

If you search back in this archive, you come to one inescapable conclusion: it is virtually impossible for this man to get any actual work done, with all these trifling and petty interruptions to his duty as head of state! Good Lord, people!

Why, there are large, lofty, looming decisions to be made, and yet - somehow - always there is another fundraiser that takes precedence. Always more jetting around, always more brief remarks to be delivered to some crowd of high schoolers or trade unionists. This must be intensely frustrating to driven, workaholic Obama.

One would think that his speechifyin' is somehow more appreciated by his inner circle than his deft administrative wizardry.

Under the fold, a little song I have renamed, 'Spirit of 2010.' Upbeat little number.
You will like.

Please promote the most conservative candidates, and shake your tushy. Have a great weekend!

This from one of the email begs last week. I chortled.

(emphasis mine)

Friend --

In a few days, I'll be hitting the trail for my last campaign.

Everything we've accomplished in the past three years -- and our chance to do so much more -- is on the line.

What we do today will be a measure of whether or not we're ready to fight for it.

By pitching in before midnight, you'll automatically be in the running to join me and George Clooney at his place on May 10th.

It's not often I can get away from work, so I look forward to spending a fun evening in L.A. with a couple supporters like you.

In the meantime, let's close out this deadline strong:...

Thanks,

Barack

He should keep on "presidentin"---the country is safest when "prezzeedee" is out "slow jammin" the rubes in flyover country.

God forbid that this twerp make any actual effort to put his hands on the controls; his "one big success" occurred when he was out on the golf course and had to be dragged back to the "war room" to see what actual workers in his administration and military had accomplished.

In short--keep that Mo Fo's hands OFF the controls. And let's shove him out of the White House via the ballot box in November.

FWIW, here in MO our state convention hasn't happened yet, so we still don't have statewide candidates officially nailed down. But it looks like Current Congressman Todd Akin will go up against evil Clair McCaskill in our Senate race, hopefully flipping the seat.

McCaskill is shrill and largely won on the Angst Against Republicans (AAR!) in '06. I don't expect her to hold on again.

That being said, when she's down in the outstate regions, she'll tout her "country mother" with one of those "baking biscuits with mom in my log cabin" kitchen adds that does suprisingly well.

I hope we defeat her this time, Most of the dems I know don't even like her. (Of course we aren't going to get the double digit stomping that Blunt pulled over Carnahan in 2010. That was so f'ing laughable. I even passed along several tips about how bad Carnahan's country bumpkin ads were going to play in the outstate to friends volunteering on her campaign because I at least wanted a horserace, you know a 5-8 pt. victory, not a 13.6% all but 3 country whampus. At one point there was something like a 22 point poll lead.)

I am convinced that the Obama campaign is going full bore identity politics. He will dump Biden for Hillary.All this womyn's crap with Sandra the Slut Fluke and her free birth control, The deadbeat Julia, womyn's groups demanding Free On Demand Abortion No Apology. People aren't going to vote for him based on his success or failure, they will vote for The First Black President and The First Woman Vice President. It's historical!

31 Unfortunately, when one is not constrained by law or reason - or burdened by anything other than an insane drive to exact revenge on the citizenry - the job of ruling a nation with no self-respect takes about no time. You just think of something, turn to your assistant and tell him, "America will do this," or "America will now be like this" and in the 'let it be said, let it be done' pharaohnic way it is the "law" of the land.

32 So, earlier this morning, I took a stroll down West 3rd Street here in Greenwich Village and as I past an old converted firehouse (formerly the home of Angie Dickinson and Earl Holliman), the door was rolled up and what did I see? Anderson Cooper in boxers and t-shirt, and his husband talking to a tradesman of some sort. I almost yelled out "Hey! Shepard Smith!" Put me off of breakfast though. Oh well, cold pizza in the fridge for lunch.

40 It will be interesting to see how the D party treats the Scoamf, once he's out of office. Clinton maintains something of a "senior statesman" status with the party, Carter was a non-entity until he started got a hammer... their standard-bearers who lost, Kerry, Gore, the Duke, Mondale, obviously it's been somewhat mixed. I don't even know if Dukakis is still alive, or McGovern, for that matter. Gore has his uses to them, and Mondale, they tried to prop him up to win an election. Kerry though? I know he's still in the Senate, but does anybody listen to anything he says? Point is, I think they know when they are putting up a nitwit, and when that person is no longer of any use to them, as in, he lost or can't run again, the nitwits disappear. Obama will disappear, probably very quickly . That is my prediction.

55 All of you people are just jealous because Emperor president Obama can do all of this effortlessly. he created 115,000 jobs just last month while crushing Romney in the polls. He freed Libya singlehandedly without a single US soldier -- he did it with his mind! Womyn all over the country can now have sex without worrying about being burdened with a child. Our recent immigrants can now get health care without being arrested and thrown into jail. Iran is cooperating with the UN and will not build a nucular weapon, and Israel isn't killing as many Palestinians compared to under Bush. All of the problems we still have will be solved when President Obama wins his second and third terms.

60 I am kinda excited about my congresscritter race. My Congresscritter is retiring. (Dan Burton) There are like 5 republicans running for the seat. I crossed off any lawyers and was left with a Dr and a former Olympian who is a mayor. Was going with the Dr until he decided to say he thinks there is a place for federal funds for PP. Uh.. no. So I am voting for the olympian who is roller blading through the district. Other than getting Lugar out.. that's the race I am excited about.

61 Todd Akin is running for Sen in MO against Sarah Steelman. He's a good one. I don't hate Sarah, but we had them both (and another guy who wasn't impressive at all and also has no chance) at our county meeting to give us their stump speech.

Akin did fine. Steelman made an ass out of herself, going waaaay over her allotted time, to the point that our Chairman was making funny little "OMG, am I going to have to physically drag a woman off the stage to make her quit talking?" motions.

I also saw Akin at a meeting where he was allowed a lot more time to give us his take on gov't. He's way too nice to be a moron, but he's very conservative and very smart. I don't have any question that he would stick to his conservative guns when Chinless Mitch comes around wanting him to reach across the aisle to the alligators.

Huh, someone is still in the race against Akin? He's got conservative cred and experience as well as name recongition in District 2 (where he's congressman, a wildly right district, where his only opponent is a libertarian, who actually collects votes.)

I'm usually not a fan of the "next in line" approach, but this time it at least seems the best choice.

I actually offered to volunteer my Healthcare Ethics Training (since I suspect many of the attacks from McCaskill on Healthcare will origininate from the academy and I'm all too familiar with their construction and deconstruction having been doing that for the last 2 years) to the campaign, but never heard back (Oh wellz, their loss.)

People can be bought very, very cheaply.

A few years ago I was on the company picnic committee and got strapped as volunteer coordinator. We needed about twenty folks to work the various booths and the food tent for an hour each. Despite my skills at persuasion, I only signed up half that number. A few folks were happy to help out and the others were convinced.

A couple of weeks later I walked through the floor handing out team t-shirts and suddenly folks started popping up out of their cubicles like whack-a-moles: "Why didn't you tell me I'd get a free t-shirt?"

@53,

Screw not knowing what the sign means, I'm always intrigued by people who show up to protests and then don't want to talk about their beliefs. I don't protest, but the last time I went to something vaguely political, I was willing to tell everyone why I thought what I thought. How else do you change minds?

(TL;DR, Occam's razor says "Paid thugs.")

I was afraid to scroll down to the comments because I expected the scum would drag themselves out of the gutter.

Still, that story is oe of the most appalling things I've ever read. Yes. Children are tortured and/or killed in the U.S., but those are rare instances and the citizenry reject any and everything about it. There, however, it is actually part of the culture!

Children are chattel and are treated far worse than Americans treat even the cattle which are led to slaughter.

Did you catch that one of the perpetrators was an Afghan soldier?

No. The UN should just be put to sleep. Painfully would be nice.

Only the biggest idiots in the world would even think that the existence of an empowered, peerless, competitionless entity is a good idea. There is not even a theoretical argument for the existence of the UN. It is the sort of thing that only the dullest or most totalitarian-oriented of humans could embrace.
