— DrewM Thanks to the genius of Rush Limbaugh, Sandra Fluke has gone from a one day story to poster child for the conservatives supposed hatred of sex and sexual active unmarried women.
Georgetown University officials have released a statement defending law student Sandra Fluke, calling Rush Limbaugh’s attacks “misogynistic” and Fluke “a model of civil discourse.”...
Appearing on NBC’s “Today,” Sandra Fluke said she was “stunned” and “outraged” by Limbaugh’s comments, which she deemed “an attempt to silence me, to silence all of us from speaking about the healthcare we need.”
Fluke, a third-year law student, testified about GeorgetownÂ’s policy on contraception during an unofficial hearing last Thursday that was led by House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.). She argued that birth control should be covered by health insurance at religious institutions.
Now Obama is personally calling Fluke. No doubt they intend to make her the Rosa Parks of conservatism war on contraception and sex or something.
So in a short time the story has gone from Obama's attack on religious freedom and overreaching regulatory state to prudish conservatives who hate sex and attack sexually active women. Oh and Rush Limbaugh. Seems only Obama and Limbaugh benefit from that. Funny how that works out, huh?
We really need to decide what we fighting about in this election. Is it the economy and Obama's unprecedented power grabs or the sexual morals of America? When we make this decision we should keep in mind that Obama and the Democrats want it to be the latter.

Washington Democratic Rep. Norm Dicks, the top Democrat on the powerful House Appropriations Committee, says he'll retire at the end of the year after 18 terms in the House.
.
Now if the rest of the Dicks would retire we'd be in business.

I know, that one was cheap and too easy....

Target charges $9 a month for contraception for the uninsured. Condoms are free in many places.
For $9 a month, a faith is being compelled to change a belief it has held for 2000 years. That's astonishing.
I'm a woman. If women employees of Catholic institutions have been suffering for lo these many years because the Church wouldn't buy them pills or pay for their abortions, those hard working boys and girls in the media _never_ mentioned it. It's almost like this controversy has been ginned up to 1) spread hatred among people, like community organizers do and 2) force Catholic hospitals to close, which would create more of a "necessity" for single-payer health care.

Not that I think we should give it any more time, unless talked about in terms of the tragedy of socialist healthcare obamacare.

An enterprising reporter found out that not only are free condoms abundantly available on the Georgetown campus, but birth patrol pills could be acquired from local merchants for as little as $9 a month.
So, at most, it would cost $108 a year for birth patrol pills. What did she need the other $2,892 for? That's what, four or five abortions? Now, unlike Andrew Sullivan, I am not an expert on female reproduction systems. But I wouldn't think a woman can get pregnant five times in a normal year.

Limbaugh's attacks have been so squarely off base it has become hard to listen too. I think he went over the line, and has spent a whole week trying to spin it as not over the line. It has been totally self serving. Instead of concentrating on the real story which is she is a plant, and a planned agitator, he has subverted his own message, our message, and this cause in general.
I stood by him in "I hope he fails" I thought it was the truth and the right thing to say.
This is f*king killing us and there is no way to defend it. A woman who thinks it's someone else's responsibility to pay for her contraception is not a prostitute, she's a childish entitleist narcissist; but not a prostitute.
It ain't the "truth" Rush, there ain't no "I should say it because it's the truth" defense Rush. Because it's just not. So instead of maligning her for the unusual belief that someone else should be forced to pay for her contraception, he maligns her for her sexual habits. Lose lose lose lose.

As long as the progessive liberals control the media, we will always be fighting with a handicap. The fact that this religious freedom argument is being framed as "conservatives hate sex and women" shows how the playing field is not even. The American populace is dummed down sufficiently that the media can spin the truth, and the people will buy it.
We need a long game strategy to infiltrate schools and the media.
At the end of the day, we lose unless this is framed in the proper light: "Obamacare's unconstitutional mandates violate the free exercise of religion."
Rush may be right. But we are losign the battle of public opinion.
Plus, this is a total distraction from winning campaign issues: the economy.

She'd get a lot more taxpayer dollars if she did get knocked up. A so-called "conservative" who cares only about his tax rate isn't much of a conservative at all, really.

Speaker John Boehner on Friday denounced radio host Rush Limbaugh’s “slut” remarks aimed at Georgetown University student Sandra Fluke, but the Ohio Republican also jabbed at Democrats who have been fundraising off the fracas. “The speaker obviously believes the use of those words was inappropriate, as is trying to raise money off the situation,” Boehner spokesman Michael Steel said in an e-mail Friday morning.
Carly Fiorina, the former HP CEO who ran for Senate in California in 2010 and now serves as Vice-Chairwoman of the National Republican Senatorial Committee, became the first high profile Republican to come out against Rush Limbaugh’s sexist attacks against Georgetown Law student Sandra Fluke, condemning the radio host on CBS this morning. “That language is insulting, in my opinion. It’s incendiary and most of all, it’s a distraction. It’s a distraction from what are very real and important issues,” Fiorina said.

As of late it seems like the left is more and more disconnected with America. November 2010 caught a lot of them by surprise. They GENUINELY thought the Tea Party was a small group of GOP operatives and dying out radicals, not a huge grass roots movement.
Think about it. The press they read and the people they associate with deliberately avoid certain topics, news stories, and information. They simply do not get the data they need to accurately understand the world or their own neighbors. They aren't dumb, they're just deliberately keeping themselves ignorant.
Most of the topics we talk about like Fast & Furious, Solyndra, or Pigford they are either totally clueless about or only have the official party line of extremely limited, spun shreds of information. They just don't know.
That's why Olbermann really honestly thought Gingrich's crack about rapes at Occupy events was some hateful right wing smear, he honestly just had no clue about the crimes and horrors at those places. Because he's deliberately keeping himself out of the loop.

Drew, I have to disagree with you turning the blame for this story on Rush. Again, this isn't about morality. This is about personal responsibility.
Rush called this Fluke woman a slut and a whore because what she wants is for other people to pay so she can have sex. That's what it is. She wants to be able to have sex with whoever she wants on someone else's dime. She wants to exchange someone else's money for her own sexual escapades. How is that any different than an escort service? The difference, of course, is the ones paying her tab aren't the ones she's having sex with. No, the ones paying her tab are the ones she chooses to verbally excoriate as misogynistic neanderthals for questioning their responsibility for underwriting her libidinous lifestyle, be they a religious organization that doesn't support contraception, or taxpayer dollars as allocated thru Obamacare.
I say bring it on, Rush. This thirty-something libertine feminista shouldn't get to come onto the public scene pretending to be some oppressed little woman and then get to fade into the background. Expose her for what she is: an up-and-coming feminist harridan.

Pay to Play (or, No, I Don't Want to Subsidize Your Sex Life)
http://wp.me/p1ipEz-1kp
You want to be able to have consequence-free sex, and you want ME to pay for it with higher insurance rates? OK, fine – I’ll make you a deal:
IÂ’ll pay for your drunken weekends with whichever guy straps on the beer goggles at last call, but in return I expect you to keep your piehole shut when you have to pay higher insurance rates for MY lifestyle choices.
And boy, howdy, am I going to stick it to you BUT GOOD.
You just THINK youÂ’ve been screwed by all of those Frat Boys, but it is nothing compared to the rogering you are going to get from me.
I am going to start living a life of indulgent luxury – I’m going to plop my fat ass on my couch and watch television all day long – no exercise for me. I’m going to eat the fattiest, greasiest foods that I can find – there isn’t going to be a vegetable in sight. I don’t drink, smoke, or use drugs, but I am thinking about taking them up – just so I can run up your insurance premiums.
You see Ms. Fluke, you have as much as admitted that no one has to take personal responsibility for their actions. No, you sat in front of a national audience and said that each of us has to pay for whatever other people in the rest of the country decide they want to do.
And if you donÂ’t want them telling you what you can or cannot do with YOUR body, then you sure as heck donÂ’t get to tell them what they can or cannot do with theirs.
There's more (with pictures!) at the link in my name.

Stop complaining that this gives the left a reason to talk about contraceptives, they'll do that no matter what else is said because it's all they have to fall back on. If these necessary moderates and independents have the brains that we assume they do, it'll be easy enough to see that this is the leftist brand of forcing social issues down everyone's throats. His big mistake. And more than just costing us pubic opinion on the issue it is false.
All of you who want to call her a "whore" show me proof that she has entered into a commercial agreement werein she agrees to provide specific sexual favors to an individual or group of individuals in exchange for something of value, or you are conflating whore to use it as a cheap insult. Which is not helpful.

It not me that's being pulled into. The average independent doesn't follow politics that closely. So we have a finite amount of things we can throw at them to make them pay attention to the real issue. Rush calling someone a slut and the media having an orgy about is a distraction.

Rush Limbaugh gets higher ratings and more money if Obama is reelected.
That being said, I agree with him 1000%. This Fluke bitch wanted the spotlight, well she gets what comes with it now. And nothing beats an aggrieved feminist for sheer hilarity. It's just too bad she won't have the balls to face a real conservative interviewer who would ask her just what Rush said that was wrong.
And BTW, everyone should read the JWF article linked in the sidebar. This woman is 30 years old, a professional student and professional feminist. She is getting EXACTLY what she deserves.
Posted by: rockmom at March 02, 2012 10:00 AM (qE3AR)
One more thing - until Ms. Fluke has popped out AT LEAST 3 of her own spawn, as far as I'm concerned she hasn't contributed her "fair share" to society.
All of these social programs that she is such a champion of aren't free - they are paid for with taxpayer dollars.
And those taxpayers don't just magically appear - they have to be MADE.
It takes roughly 20 years before those spawn can become taxpayers, so she and her birth-control-loving buddies had better get to work.
I'm not getting any younger.....

I'm sorry, but you are pathetic. In the wake of Andrew Breibart's death you do exactly what he dedicated his life to fighting. Instead of making a principled argument for or against what Limbaugh actually said, you accept the liberal spin and attack our own side.
When will the right figure out the accepting the left's framing of issues is a no-win proposition. Good lord, Drew, grow a set of balls.
Posted by: jwest at March 02, 2012 01:35 PM (FdndL)
Drew isn't accepting the liberal spin. He's criticising the willingness of some on the right to allow the Left to sidetrack us into social issues in an election year where everything hinges on making Obama's reelection a referendum on his dismal record. In one of Breitbart's last conversations, he related his frustrations at the success of the liberal media to reframe the issues and steer the national conversation so that we're talking about contraceptives and not about substantive economic issues--which the Left emphatically cannot afford to talk about. In order to generate controversy and garner advertising dollars, Limbaugh feeds into it deliberately.
Don't you see? The Left wants a culture war this election year. They want to talk about anything but the disastrous impact their policies are making on the economy and on our standing in world affairs. So of course the Left prefers a Santorum candidacy. Of course the Left wants to talk about free contraceptives for everybody.
Lastly, Rush Limbaugh is a billion-dollar entertainer whose schtick happens to be politics. I don't think much of the man but know there are many out there who admire and respect him. Okay, you admire and respect him for what, exactly? Limbaugh preaches to the choir on a daily basis and is paid handsomely for doing it. Good for him. But as a serious, persuasive voice in the conservative movement? Please. Telling someone what they want to hear is no hard trick. Getting undecided or even hostile people to come over to your side by force of ideas and power of logic, on the other hand, is the most difficult trick of all, and that isn't what he does. Screw Rush Limbaugh.

We continue to operate under the premise that any time there is a discussion about sex, the left is winning. That is not the case. Regardless of whether you agree with what Rush said, his reasons for saying it, or whether it serves any strategic purpose, he has been able to expand the discussion from religious liberties to why are law school students pleading poverty and asking us to buy their birth control. This is a winning issue for the right. We should recognize that. No one on the right is asking for contraceptions to be banned. Yes, that is what the left is saying, but that message is not getting through. Its one thing to say that Obama is spending freely and expanding his power beyond belief. It is another to have such a topical example that grabs peoples interest. Let the left make Sandra Fluke their posterchild for this issue. She looks like a fool. I just hope we have a candidate who is willing to ask Obama, why the federal government should ask the taxpayers to pay for the sexual activities of others.

Let's not forget that there's a portion of the electorate out there who listen to Rush but need metaphors that they can understand to be able to really digest his meaning. These are the people who would say, "Gosh, it really isn't fair for catholic institutions not to pay for birth control for their employees." Then along comes Rush and lays it out for them: "We're paying for this girl to have sex. Women who get paid for sex are whores. Why are these places being asked to pay for a whore's lifestyle?"
Believe it or not, that WILL resonate with people.

I've ended up listening to Rush a lot more in the last few weeks than I have in the last 4 years, and I haven't been all that impressed.
He's gotten to be rather blowhardy and seems to spend most of his show congratulating himself and repeating the same things over and over. And he seems to make arguments for conservatism primary by repeated assertion rather than with logic and evidence. And a lot of times I think he merely flatters his audience instead of addressing tough subjects.
Maybe it's me who's changed but I think today's Rush is not the same as the Rush of yore.
Posted by: Mætenloch at March 02, 2012 10:07 AM (pAlYe)
Limbaugh has bigger audience numbers when there's a liberal in the White House. He's an entertainer, essentially, with his own agenda. Never forget that.
As I said yesterday, it's insane to be actively collaborating with the liberals in their determined attempts to change the subject away from King Putt's economic ineptitude.
The liberals won in '92 on a simple message:
"IT'S THE ECONOMY, STUPID!"
The absolutely identical message has to be seized upon by the right for this year. If we are crazy enough to run on this contraception business, we deserve our loss.
Posted by: torquewrench at March 02, 2012 10:07 AM (aWrFJ)
@243 - the left wants a culture war, let's give it to them. The right wins on culture war issues. Gun control was a culture war issue. The right destroyed the left on that. We should make the economic case for conservative policies and removing Obama, but we should not run away from social issues, when there is little proof that they are losing issues, and lots of proof they are winning isssues. This contraception issue perfectly ties both together. It perfectly illusrates the expansive power of the federal government through Obamacare, with the silly social idea that the taxpayers should pay for contraceptions.

That's true. But he walked into the trap of maligning this girl for her sexual habits, which is a loser, and then drawing a parallel to a prostitute, which is a huge huge loser. Even if you only do it once.
No, he's maligning the idea that she wants other people to pay for her habits, which would not be discussed all over the country had she not sat down in front of a Congressional committee and demanded that Congress rape our wallets to cover the bill. There's no point in getting squishy over the fact that the media lies about it, because that's what the media does. A big reason why they get away with these narratives is because we throw our hands up and run away screaming when they start to do it, out of some misguided idea that we can get them to somehow not lie.

The way this issue was offered up; The Catholic Church should be forced to pay for Contraception which they morally object to for religious reasons, was a guaranteed WIN! for our side; until we mangled it into
"Woman who have sex are BAD people"
Know the issue. The Church doesn't care if it's a woman, a man, a pill, a condom, married, or un-married, twice a day, or once a year, they oppose using artificial contraception. The sexual habits of any particular woman is immaterial to that stance, and her personal choice and responsibility.
Yet we voluntarily take that win, and mutate it into an argument we can't win.

Been a little behind in this issue, but hereÂ’s what I gather:
So a 23-year-old “co-ed” — errrrrr, 30-year-old liberal activist — knew of Georgetown’s policy rejecting socialized contraception (making the rest of the student body of the Catholic school pay — through higher student fees — for her birth-control, which is against the Catholic doctrine). Rather than simply going to another school, she set about undermining Georgetown so that it conformed to her sensibilities and benefited her pocketbook.
So when the Democrats sought to expand the scope of her intolerance of Catholic doctrine to the entire federal government, she became their poster child — errrrrrr, 30-year-old woman — as someone who can afford to go to Georgetown Law and live in Washington (and probably have an iPhone and a iPad2 with unlimited data plans and fabulous clothes and shoes) but cannot afford the thousands and thousands of dollars of (presumably gold-plated) birth-control pills she desires.
All so the media can run with: Republicans Hate Women! again?
Hmmm. Well, IÂ’ll give them this: IÂ’m pretty sure I would hate this freeloading rabble-rouser Fluke.

265,
This issue has absolutely everything to do with the economic and personal liberty messages, and there's no reason in the world not to combine them. It goes a little something like this:
"Why, in a time of spiking gas prices and high unemployment, is the SCOAMF and other elected members of his party entertaining the idea of forcing taxpayers to subsidize the private lives of others who are unwilling to pay for their own choices?"
"Why are they entertaining the pet cause of a dipshit feminist activist when there is so much more that is worthy of the government's time?"

THIS. A thousand times this! There's no reason why every single so-called "social" argument that keeps being raised by the left during this election cycle CAN'T be turned back to the economy.
Catholic institutions paying for contraception: This is a clear violation of the first amendment in that it abridges a religion's right to free exercise. This will lead to the inevitable closure of many Catholic instituions, including hospitals, nursing homes, and charity organizations. This in turn will put an even greater strain on public institutions, which will require exorbitant tax hikes to pay for the added demand.
Taxpayers paying for contraception: If there is enough money in the coffers to pay for this woman's $1,000 per annum contraceptive costs, why are we slicing the military's health coverage to shreds and laying off many of our fighting men and women into a world of high unemployment?
Taxpayer-funded abortion: See the arguments above.
These messages are not difficult to fit into the left's framing of the conversation. But you HAVE to be willing to take that frame, turn it on its side and show the world the WHOLE picture.

Besides, she appears to be a liar (she's 30, NOT 23) and she enrolled at Georgetown Law with the express purpose of combating the evil of not having contraception covered in the school's student insurance policy. Prior to her enrolling there, she was trolling the liberal/progressive waters as some sort of activist. I'm just wondering who among the super brains at that law school allowed her to get into the place.

If she doesn't want me getting into her business, then she better just GTFO of my business.
And Ms. Fluke strikes me as one of those OWS types who is always bleating about how "the rich" aren't paying "their fair share". I'm just letting her know that HER fair share - since she is so gung-ho for all of these "free" services that are being provided - is to pop out a couple of future people to pay for all of the goodies that she thinks are her "right".

Fluke, a birth control activist, spoke with TODAYÂ’s Matt Lauer about LimbaughÂ’s comments and the failure of a GOP-sponsored amendment that would have allowed employers at religious institutions to opt out of providing contraception in health plans.
Fluke told Lauer that she expected some backlash, especially from someone like Limbaugh. Still, the comments stung — especially since they were made on the first day of Women’s History Month.

If we just knew an influential blogger who could feed and coordinate the conservativeÂ’s outrage at the Annie George story. That would be good.
HereÂ’s how it might lookÂ…
Annie George, contributor to the liberal activist group “Emily’s List”, is facing criminal charges for forcing a servant to live in a closet for 6 years in her 30,000 square foot mansion. Although Emily’s List has taken positions on women’s pay in fundraising literature, the servant was paid approximately 85 cents per hour.
Officials of EmilyÂ’s List have been silent on this incident and local law enforcement has not released any indication of how many of the organizationÂ’s members knew of or approved of Ms. George keeping an indentured servant in a closet. It is unclear at this time if EmilyÂ’s List contributors regularly use slave labor, however, until the organization officially condemns the action it remains unknown if the liberal group opposes the practice.
