51 I shall post my yearly night before Christmas poem. Twas the night before Christmas And all through Ace’s house Not a creature was stirring, not one pubic louse The panties where hung from the clothesline with care To give the stale crotches some much needed air When all of the sudden there arose such a clatter AlextheChick slipped on her stompyboots to see what was the matter To the window she scurried her ass When a Reindeer turd landed, Splat! right on the glass Vic looked up from reading the news, his face all forlorn While the young rons where in the attic fapping to porn The ronnettes gathered to hatch a plan They wanted kick ass gifts from the bearded fat man They pulled their frilly knickers up above the knee Then lounged like little vixens, neath the christmas tree When suddenly out of the fireplace, Santa Appeared He had no bag of gifts, and that seemed awfully weird. The rons stopped fapping and gathered on the stairs The fat man looking jolly, just stood smiled and stared. He reached for the nog, so cold and icy It was loaded down with Val-u-rite and just a little bit spicy. With a gloved hand, he wiped his beard His eyes began to twinkle and his throat he cleared. His voice thundered loud enough to wake up the dead It even shook Ace out of his bed. People I will tell you, I have watched you all year Voicing your happiness your sadness and fear I have no gifts for you, because you need nothing You have each other and that is really something. Our world has grown cold, lonely and dark, it is people like you the provide a needed spark I challenge you to be kind to those who are ignorant and mean When you want to make your voice angry and dirty, try to keep it clean On this holiest of nights remember you are loved By each other and the one from above. Santa chugged another nog and up the Chimney he went When suddenly a troll popped out of the heating vent He yelled out loud, HaHa, no gifts for you Cause you hate the black man, Mexicans and Jews Captain hate smiled and said “We need no gifts just each other And by the way, go fuck your mother. The troll ran outside and saw Santa in his sleigh He could not defeat the Morons on this holiest of days And as Santa rode off the troll screamed with a leer “YOU'RE A POTBELLIED ASSHOLE, AND PROBABLY QUEER

82 To those who served, are serving, and are away from families this Christmas, from a grateful American, thank you for your service and Merry Christmas to you & yours.

Merry Christmas, My Friend

This attribution does a great disservice to the poem's true author, James M. Schmidt, who was a Lance Corporal stationed in Washington, D.C., when he wrote the poem back in 1986. As Corporal Schmidt told us in December 2002:

The true story is that while a Lance Corporal serving as Battalion Counter Sniper at the Marine Barracks 8th & I, Washington, DC, under Commandant P.X. Kelly and Battalion Commander D.J. Myers [in 1986], I wrote this poem to hang on the door of the Gym in the BEQ. When Colonel Myers came upon it, he read it and immediately had copies sent to each department at the Barracks and promptly dismissed the entire Battalion early for Christmas leave. The poem was placed that day in the Marine Corps Gazette, distributed worldwide and later submitted to Leatherneck Magazine.

Schmidt's original version, entitled "Merry Christmas, My Friend," was published in  http://www.mca-marines.org/leatherneck

"Merry Christmas, My Friend" has been a holiday favorite among "leatherneckphiles" for nearly the time it takes to complete a Marine Corps career. Few, however, know who wrote it and when. Former Corporal James M. Schmidt, stationed at Marine Barracks, Washington, D.C., pounded it out 17 years ago on a typewriter while awaiting the commanding officer's Christmas holiday decorations inspection . . .while other leathernecks strung lights for the Barracks' annual Christmas decoration contest, Schmidt contributed his poem to his section.

Over the years the text of "Merry Christmas, My Friend" has been altered to change Marine-specific wording into Army references (including the title: U.S. Marines do not refer to themselves as "soldiers") and to incorporate line-ending rhyme changes necessitated by those alterations.

We reproduce below Corporal Schmidt's version as printed in Leatherneck back in 1991:

Merry Christmas, My Friend

TÂ’was the night before Christmas, he lived all alone,
In a one bedroom house made of plaster & stone.

I had come down the chimney, with presents to give
and to see just who in this home did live

As I looked all about, a strange sight I did see,
no tinsel, no presents, not even a tree.
No stocking by the fire, just boots filled with sand.
On the wall hung pictures of a far distant land.

With medals and badges, awards of all kind,
a sobering thought soon came to my mind.
For this house was different, unlike any I'd seen.
This was the home of a U.S. Marine.

I'd heard stories about them, I had to see more,
so I walked down the hall and pushed open the door.
And there he lay sleeping, silent, alone,
Curled up on the floor in his one-bedroom home.

He seemed so gentle, his face so serene,
Not how I pictured a U.S. Marine.
Was this the hero, of whom IÂ’d just read?
Curled up in his poncho, a floor for his bed?

His head was clean-shaven, his weathered face tan.
I soon understood, this was more than a man.
For I realized the families that I saw that night,
owed their lives to these men, who were willing to fight.

Soon around the Nation, the children would play,
And grown-ups would celebrate on a bright Christmas day.
They all enjoyed freedom, each month and all year,
because of Marines like this one lying here.

I couldnÂ’t help wonder how many lay alone,
on a cold Christmas Eve, in a land far from home.
Just the very thought brought a tear to my eye.
I dropped to my knees and I started to cry.

He must have awoken, for I heard a rough voice,
"Santa, don't cry, this life is my choice
I fight for freedom, I don't ask for more.
My life is my God, my country, my Corps."

With that he rolled over, drifted off into sleep,
I couldn't control it, I continued to weep.

I watched him for hours, so silent and still.
I noticed he shivered from the cold night's chill.
So I took off my jacket, the one made of red,
and covered this Marine from his toes to his head.
Then I put on his T-shirt of scarlet and gold,
with an eagle, globe and anchor emblazoned so bold.
And although it barely fit me, I began to swell with pride,
and for one shining moment, I was Marine Corps deep inside.

I didn't want to leave him so quiet in the night,
this guardian of honor so willing to fight.
But half asleep he rolled over, and in a voice clean and pure,
said "Carry on, Santa, it's Christmas Day, all secure."
One look at my watch and I knew he was right,
Merry Christmas my friend, Semper Fi and goodnight.

After leaving the Corps, Corporal Schmidt earned a law degree and now serves as an entertainment attorney in Los Angeles and is director of operations for a security consulting firm.

To those with those who bring grief, may you all find a way to turn grief into joy. To those alone, may you find contentment alone or may someone who needs you find you and bring you both joy. I think that covers most of the bases.

89 16 A triple conjunction of these two planets in 7 B.C. was significant enough to intrigue a trio of astrologers to travel into Judea and, well you know the rest. Posted by: CAC at December 24, 2013 05:34 PM (6d/TO) Maybe not. Several years ago, Michael R. Molnar, who is an astronomer, wrote a book giving an astrological explanation for the Star of Bethlehem. http://www.eclipse.net/~molnar/ I haven't read the book, but it got a rave review in Sky & Telescope magazine. See Bradley E. Schafer's blurb about halfway down this page: http://www.eclipse.net/~molnar/review.html More reviews at Amazon: http://tinyurl.com/o9luhon It's important to remember that before the time of Kepler around 1600, astronomy and astrology were one and the same. There was no difference between them. Ancient skywatchers studied the stars in order to discover portents about the future. That is what the Magi would have considered noteworthy, rather than purely astronomical events.

Pulling a 96 hour ED shift. Stuck between a stupid hospital firewall and stupid motel no internet, will see if I can get this out:

Mr. Garrison: I heard there is no Christmas
In the silly Middle East
No trees, no snow, no Santa Claus
They have different religious beliefs

They believe in Muhammad
And not in our holiday
And so every December
I go to the Middle East and say...

"Hey there Mr. Muslim
Merry fucking Christmas
Put down that book the Koran
And hear some holiday wishes.

In case you haven't noticed
It's Jesus's birthday.
So get off your heathen Muslim ass
and fucking celebrate.

There is no holiday season in India I've heard
They don't hang up their stockings
And that is just absurd!

They've never read a Christmas story.
They don't know what Rudolph is about
And that is why in December
I'll go to India and shout...

Hey there Mr. Hinduist
Merry fucking Christmas
Drink eggnog and eat some beef
And pass it to the missus.

In case you haven't noticed
It's Jesus's birthday
So get off your heathen Hindu ass
and fucking celebrate!

Now I heard that in Japan
Everyone just lives in sin
They pray to several gods
And put needles in their skin.

On December 25th
All they do is eat a cake
And that is why I go to Japan
And walk around and say...

Hey there Mr. Shintoist
Merry fucking Christmas
God is going to kick your ass
You infidelic pagan scum.

In case you haven't noticed
There's festive things to do
So lets all rejoice for Jesus
And Merry fucking Christmas to you.

On Christmas day I travel `round the world and say,
Taoists, Krishnas, Buddhists, and all you atheists too,
Merry Fucking Christmas, To You!

Posted by: Muad'dib at December 24, 2013 03:43 PM (PlTXA)

212 THE NIGHT BEFORE CHRISTMAS by Clement Clarke Moore or Henry Livingston 'Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the house Not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse; The stockings were hung by the chimney with care, In hopes that St. Nicholas soon would be there; The children were nestled all snug in their beds, While visions of sugar-plums danced in their heads; And mamma in her 'kerchief, and I in my cap, Had just settled down for a long winter's nap, When out on the lawn there arose such a clatter, I sprang from the bed to see what was the matter. Away to the window I flew like a flash, Tore open the shutters and threw up the sash. The moon on the breast of the new-fallen snow Gave the lustre of mid-day to objects below, When, what to my wondering eyes should appear, But a miniature sleigh, and eight tiny reindeer, With a little old driver, so lively and quick, I knew in a moment it must be St. Nick. More rapid than eagles his coursers they came, And he whistled, and shouted, and called them by name; "Now, Dasher! now, Dancer! now, Prancer and Vixen! On, Comet! on Cupid! on, Donder and Blitzen! To the top of the porch! to the top of the wall! Now dash away! dash away! dash away all!" As dry leaves that before the wild hurricane fly, When they meet with an obstacle, mount to the sky, So up to the house-top the coursers they flew, With the sleigh full of toys, and St. Nicholas too. And then, in a twinkling, I heard on the roof The prancing and pawing of each little hoof. As I drew in my head, and was turning around, Down the chimney St. Nicholas came with a bound. He was dressed all in fur, from his head to his foot, And his clothes were all tarnished with ashes and soot; A bundle of toys he had flung on his back, And he looked like a peddler just opening his pack. His eyes -- how they twinkled! his dimples how merry! His cheeks were like roses, his nose like a cherry! His droll little mouth was drawn up like a bow, And the beard of his chin was as white as the snow; The stump of a pipe he held tight in his teeth, And the smoke it encircled his head like a wreath; He had a broad face and a little round belly, That shook, when he laughed like a bowlful of jelly. He was chubby and plump, a right jolly old elf, And I laughed when I saw him, in spite of myself; A wink of his eye and a twist of his head, Soon gave me to know I had nothing to dread; He spoke not a word, but went straight to his work, And filled all the stockings; then turned with a jerk, And laying his finger aside of his nose, And giving a nod, up the chimney he rose; He sprang to his sleigh, to his team gave a whistle, And away they all flew like the down of a thistle. But I heard him exclaim, ere he drove out of sight, "Happy Christmas to all, and to all a good-night."

266 Because I was leaving my house for a few days, I wanted to make sure a connection that had previously overheated in my furnance was still secure after it was repaired a few weeks ago. As I was putting the metal cover back on I must have made contact with something it wasn't supposed to contact and shorted out something and my furnance won't click on. That's what I get for trying to be safety conscious and I can't get my repair guy until Thursday. Glad the lows will only be in high 30's. no frozen pipes.

Well, you always have the memories, right? Those memories are certainly better than seeing the current-day Jamie Lee with short white hair and eating a certain kind of yogurt to help her take a dump.

269 Merry Christmas! My recipe for Wassail or mulled ale Tie up whole cloves, whole allspice, whole cinnamon, crystallized ginger, and orange peel in cheese cloth and add to 5 bottles of brown ale and 1/2 bottle of madera in a crock-pot. Core 3 apples and 1 pear, all stuffed with light brown sugar, honey, and another brown ale and roast at 350 def F for 1/2 hour. When done, add all that to the crock-pot. Lastly, add a few drops of bitters and serve when hot.

275 More importantly, if hot cocoa can accomplish that goal, then I really wasted a lot of time and money using alcohol for that purpose over the years. Posted by: Slappy>>

Oh crap pajama boy is never gonna get laid no matter the amount of cocoa.

281 Breaker okay. Probably fuse but I'm not familiar with the electronics box. Looks like a bird's nest of wires and connections.

Yes I did but never with enough frequency or with the members of the opposite sex I most wanted to. Perhaps the hot cocoa would've increased the numbers and quality.
