Doesn't matter. There is already an official protest on that score for one of the other primaries who had also lost half of their delegates. The half delegate punishment was for moving primary. going winner take all calls for having the RNC award them as intended and overriding the State party..

32 I can't think of a more dreadful slate of candidates for a major party to run in my lifetime. Hell, even in 84 the Democrats had a few decent folks running in the primary. The Republicans of 2012? Good god. Romney- As far as can be determined by his record, his policies are pretty much exactly the same as the current administration....except that he won't be checked by a hostile congress. Santorum- Ignoring the whole "Ned Flanders from an evil dimension" aspect of his character, here's a guy who favors more state controls over individual citizens, and is openly hostile to 1/3 of the Republican party (in fairness, it's my third so I'm a tad touchy about the nitwit). Newt- Guy is nuts. Great ideas, tendency to blow things up. Kind of guy I wouldn't trust with my car, let alone a nuke, you know? Ron Paul- Except for his tendency to get cozy with nazis and 9/11 truthers, it's a crazy enough world where he seems the less crazy of them all. We have such a bad crop, that voting for the loon seems a great deal less crazy than the alternatives. Ugh. Just, ugh. McCain and Dole are even looking pretty good now. I really have no idea how we get ourselves out of this mess. SMOD seems pretty damn sweet right now.

274 I live in a suburb of Detroit.  In the 2008 election our precinct was 238 for McCain, 423 for Obama.  I was Republican voter #111 @ 5:15 PM out of 145 total voters.  (You had to "declare" what ballot you wanted, we a local issue as well.) I think that means there are a lot of people are trying to subvert the Republican primary because I have a hard time believing that we are getting such a high turnout for a primary compared to a general.  My husband thinks that perhaps it is because a lot of people have decided enough is enough and are changing their affiliation.  I pray he is correct.  (Oh and I am proud to say my son was voter #1 this morning.  He was on his way to work and had to wait for them to fire up the machines.  Good boy.)

392 Romney is currently up by 4% with 61% of the vote in, but huge chunks are still missing from Oakland County (where he's horsewhipping Santorum by a 20% margin in one of the most populous GOP counties in the state) and Macomb County (where he's winning by a commanding 10%).  The final margin seems like it will be somewhere around 5-6%.

Given the tie/Santorum-lean of the most recent polls, that's a big vindication for Romney.

Not saying this to needle you, but it's exactly the opposite.  The margin for Romney is only going to increase from here on out.  As I just wrote in #413, the major tranche of votes that have yet to report are from the Detroit suburbs where Romney is crushing Santorum.  Particularly Oakland County, which is only about 35% in right now and where Romney leads by 20%.  That margin is going to hold as the county fully reports, which is going to add a massive edge to his margin.

However, looking at a lot of the counties that Santorum carried, some are very strong Dem leaners, and the estimates are that about 10% of the votes are Dem crossovers voting for Santorum.

 

That makes the Romney margin a bit higher, but impossible to prove.

463 FWIW, Romney has moved out to a 5% lead now with 68% in.  As I said, the weight of Oakland (51%-29%!  And that's 100,000 total GOP votes in that county, it's not some UP nothingburger), Macomb, Wayne, Livingston, and Washtenaw is crushing Santorum.

It actually may end up as a 7% victory for Romney instead of 5-6% if current trends hold.  And because he did so surprisingly well in the UP's 1st congressional district (which includes not just the peninsula itself, but also the Northern MI counties that all went Romney), he might end up winning every district in the state except for the 2nd, 3rd, and 6th.  That would send him home with a supermajority of MI's delegates despite its proportional allocation.

Nah, don't worry, I won't be 'that guy.'  I'm being realistic and analytical here about Romney's 'hard' takeaway from tonight.  I'm not deluding myself into thinking it's some sort of sweeping victory, because Super Tuesday is going to be ugly all over again.

But I won't lie: I thought Santorum was going to win MI tonight, and I was bracing myself for a truly awful round of gloating and recriminations tomorrow.  My overriding emotion right now?  Relief.

I've found that pro-choicers who just assume abortion is a religious issue (and that pro-lifers are supporting it because some priest or some passage in the Bible told them to) really haven't examined the issue much.

Because one has about as much chance of winning as the other.  I don't support Raptor Jesus.  I don't plan on supporting Raptor Jesus--even in his other forms.  There's no need to pretend that the solution, though, is the pro-choice-f'-social-cons Specter route.

He didn't win (the Presidency) back when Republicans ignored him.  He didn't win back when they hated him.  He couldn't get into the high single digits if I remember correctly.  He couldn't even win as a Democrat when he became a Democrat.  That guy doesn't win.  Do I think a guy who makes a point of informing others of his problems with contraception will win also?  No.  Neither does a guy who takes the positions and attitude of Specter.

Have you looked at the actual record or are you going with opposition "research".

As Gov. of MA taxes were not raised they were even lowered some - the only thing that went up were fees (a tax on use of government services).  Size of state government was reduced by combining redundant agencies and putting a freeze on new hires.  MA was bleeding jobs when Romney took over and he reversed job loss in the state and turned the trend positive.  Finally the budget went from being 3 billion in the hole to 2 billion surplus.

So please pay more attention - this is important stuff.  Lots of things said about Romney that are not even close to the truth.  I've researched his record well and for the most part think he is great!  Glad to see both wins tonight.

As a Romney guy, I wonder who you support other than Mitt?

The pro union "conservative" that has opened a new and stupid front on contraception.  The guy who was not even organized enough to get on the ballot of VA.

Or the Moon Man who has the ethics of Clinton mixed with progressive views of Woodrow Wilson and attacker of capitalism.

Will Romney say some stupid stuff - yes, all politicians do at times - even Reagan.  But, will Mitt even come close to his current competitors in the stupid comments arena - very doubtful.
