— Pixy Misa Michigan. Michigan? Yes, Michigan. This will make them the 24th Right to Work state in America.
The House vote also fell mostly along party lines, 58-52, with all Democrats and some Republicans opposing it. Democratic House floor leader Kate Segal, D-Battle Creek, said she would ask to reconsider the vote on HB 4054 during the next day of session, but that decision will be up to Speaker Jase Bolger, R-Marshall.
And just hours ago:
The Michigan Senate passed their first bill by a 22-16 vote, with Democrats and a few Republicans voting against it. A separate bill approving right-to-work strictly for public-sector workers passed a few minutes afterward by a 22-4 vote. The chamber's 12 Democrats walked off the floor in protest and were purposely absent for that vote.
As you may expect, the unions aren't taking the news well.
Governor Snyder had asked the House and Senate Republicans not to move forward with RTW legislation. However, the RTW proponents were encouraged to push forward after the pro-union initiatives were soundly defeated in the 2012 general election. One of the initiatives, Proposal 2, would have enshrined collective bargaining into the constitution. It was defeated 60%-40%.
I've been told there is a five day waiting period before the bill reaches Governor Snyder's desk. He has previously stated that he would not veto RTW legislation should it come across his desk.
This is a major victory on the Midwestern front comrades. While Obama may have won soundly in 2012, many of his individual constituencies are still unpopular.

GOP controls MI because in 2010 they won big. They did this because blacks didn't show up to vote. They did show up in 2012 to vote for The WON. Looks like any victories we might get will be done via mid-term elections.

Why do you think it took so long? Are you imagining that Ace had to rush out and cash his check from Boehner? Is Ace secretly in cahoots with the RNC and Faux News? A conspiracy is really the only possible explanation after ruling out all the other possible explanations.

This assumes the Dems aren't datamining the piss out of all the info they got from the 2012 (really the 2008-forever) campaign, and aren't solidifying ways of getting "uninterested voters" to the polls by *ahem* unorthodox means (e.g., free shit).

True. But a lot of people just don't care about elections that don't involve the Prezzy. This goes on both sides of the aisle. Which is why the party out of the white house usually has big mid-term wins....it's the really commited voters that give a shit and actually vote. 2014 should be another good year for us....but then again, given how inept Boehner is, who knows?

I walked by the Capitol this afternoon - after reading news reports I was surprised how small the protest seemed to be. A few hundred people in a state of 10 million? Maybe it was because of how quickly these bills materialized - but as you say, Prop 2 fell 60-40 last election.

They haven't been able to do that in Wisconsin yet.
Let's not get so down on ourselves. This is a victory. It's a major victory.
Unions are on the decline in this county and that's a good thing. It's one of the few areas where we seem to be winning. Let's enjoy it.

The Michigan House voted Thursday to approve a bill barring unions from collecting mandatory fees from non-members. The Senate also took up the bill, and Republican Gov. Rick Snyder endorsed it Thursday.
White House spokesman Matt Lehrich says Obama has long opposed right to work laws, “and he continues to oppose them now.”Obama opposes any work.

Here's the thing. Although there's no trend in politics, I like where this is going. Let's face it, Obama won in 2012. With the exception of MO and IN Senate, almost all Democrat victories can be pinned to Obama personally and his ability to GOTV.
Now there are a dozen reasons why Obama is able to win, but it was all about him. Nobody else. You can do the War on Women rationalization, but the truth is that all of those "issues" were just cover for the fact that people were not going to hold Obama accountable for his policies.
The turnout in 2014 will be similar to 2010.

What might be scaring the unions is the fact that Indiana is right south of us. How it works--well--is obvious.
And it's not hard to get to Michigan from Indiana. Anybody who wants to move his business south can still get up to the Great Lakes State for hunting, skiing, snow sports, boating, and various kinds of resorting from tents and jerky to posh condos.
IOW, you get the best of both worlds.
Got to be getting somebody's attention.

Not so fast. 2010 was a big year because conservatives had this crazy idea that if cons won elections, they'd do conservative things once in office. In 2014 cons know that it doesn't matter who wins, Boehner will give Obama whatever he wants, whenever he wants it, then have a good cry. You think a lot of people stayed home in 2012? Fiscal Cliff Deal Down to Wrangling Over Details
Both sides agree the wealthy will pay more, so now fiscal
cliff talks come down to how much Republicans can wring out
of the White House in return for giving in on taxes.
To President Barack Obama, it's all about first locking in additional revenue from raising taxes on high-income earners, an outcome the GOP has long rejected.
Republicans led by House Speaker John Boehner want to secure commitments on entitlement reforms and spending cuts opposed by Democrats as part of a broader agreement to reduce the nation's chronic federal deficits and debt.
So again the GOP will cave, they will give the President and the Democrats tax increases immediately in exchange for future cuts that will never materialize or eventually cause a crisis that will lead to another grand-bargain!

Unfortunately, I think that you are on to something. After participating in the reawakening of 2010, followed by the debacle of 2102, and what I perceive to be the 2012-2014 perpetual cave by Boehner, I am more politically dispirited than I have ever been in my life. If there is not a meaningful renaissance within the political conservative realm by 2014, I tend to believe that I will view my vote as meaningless and not worth the effort to cast. I doubt that I am alone in this!

Oh I get it. Funny when your car is a piece of junk, you don't say "you effing engineer a better one then" you just dump your piece of junk for a better one. In a modern society of specialization it is not a valid to say that no complaint about a product or service is valid unless the person making the complaint could in fact provide a better product or service of the same type. By your mode of thought Motor Trend and Consumer Reports should just wrap it up and go home because they can't make a car better than the ones they regularly lambast. That mode of thought is just asinine. Perfect for an ass.

1. Endless attacks by the media on the GOP.
2. Blame for the coming recession.
3. Attacks on TV by the weak-minded on our side (there are a lot).
4. We end up going along with it anyway, or Obama does it by executive order, which is illegal but he would get away with.
I don't see any avenue to stop this. Since there is not, I say go ahead with it and deny Obama the talking point. Frame the argument as "This is what Obama wants, but we will be watching to see if it works."
That is my opinion. The alternative is to make a stand, and I don't think that will impress the electorate, given the media.

Oklahoma is the only state that Obama did not win even one county in the last election...
While everyone is focusing on Arizona Â’s new law, look what Oklahoma has been doing.
Oklahoma law passed, 37 to 9 an amendment to place the Ten Commandments on the front entrance to the state capitol. The feds in D.C., along with the ACLU, said it would be a mistake. Hey this is a conservative state, based on Christian values...! HB 1330. Guess what..........Oklahoma did it anyway.

When traveling, my wife and I like to get off the expressways and take some back roads. Indiana's small towns and rural areas and homes are pretty much uniformly prosperous and graceful. Downstate IL is somewhat starker.
Love that fat, blacksoil farm country. Nice folks. Got some friends in Noblesville who, having arrived there about twenty years ago, wouldn't live anywhere else.
And to put the peanuts and whipped cream on the hot fudge, Indiana is showing Michigan how it's done. If it weren't for the water out my front door, I'd think about moving.

So tell me, what is 'action?'
The grand bargain in August 2011 which 'assured our electoral victory in 2012?'
John Boehner's broken "Pledge to America" to cut a paltry 100 billion from the 2010 budget (he increased the budget by 3 billion that year).
John Boehner's decision to go golfing with Obama the Sunday after he overran the War Powers Act in Libya?
John Boehner's recent decision to oust congressmen who voted against his stupid moderate bills from committees?
John Boehner has a history of poor negotiation, quisling fear, and hostility to conservatives. It is delusional to pretend that he will behave differently than it has.

I would really like the GOP to start speaking plain truth. NO, Obama is not a misguided nice guy. NO, he doesn't want to save the economy. NO, he isn't an ally of Israel. Etc.
However, I am dubious that they could find enough guys to go on TV and say stuff like this. So the refusal to pass the tax hike would be demonized and vanish like a candle in the wind. And Obama would probably do it with an EO because emergency or something.

"Email from rand Paul: Sign the No Tax Hikes petition"
But I WANT tax hikes.
I don't just want tax hikes. No. I want serious tax hikes. Deadly serious ones. I want huge, crushing, bent over in blurred-eyesight agony after having been slugged in the nuts by a 350lb outlaw biker tax hikes.
And I want them right away. Like, next week.
I just don't want for them to be permanent. I want these huge tax hikes to have a "sunset" date built in, the way the original Bush tax cuts had a sunset date built in. I want them to be called the "Obama tax hikes" just as the Bush tax cuts were called the "Bush tax cuts". Let the Obama tax hikes expire after Obama leaves.
But before they expire, I want those tax hikes to do what massive tax hikes always do, which is bring in far less revenue than planned while murdering the economy and driving up unemployment. Ruining Obama's second term and cementing his place as the least economically competent President in our entire national history. In a way he won't be able to evade.
So, no, I won't be signing that petition. I'm going to be busy as a bee, planning my hunker-down, spend-less, earn-less, starve-the-beast strategy to wait out the tax winter.

Option #2: Agree to an increase...for those earning more than $5 million. The super-rich vote Democrat.

Boehner really must like golfing with Bammy, or else he'd just walk away. This really is a no-win situation for Congressional Republicans.
Cave to Obama, and you'll have higher taxes on the rich (+1 Democrats), no real spending cuts (+2 Democrats), endless praise from the MSM on how Obama made this happen (+3 Democrats), and deftly put mockery from the MSM on how bad the GOP handled this (+4 Democrats).
If you walk and let the fiscal cliff happen, yeah, you get higher taxes on the rich, and you'll get blamed from the MSM, but you do get spending cuts. And the middle class gets to feel the pain in the wallet from re-electing Obama.
But Boehner doesn't see it that way. All he sees is a nice walk spoiled with Obama at Army/Navy.

Stalin isn't a *real* murderer.
Many teachers are proud they don't read serious books.
The students can't read, and if they can they can't comprehend a damn thing.
Christianity has killed more people than any other ideology.
