— Ace This isn't new. It's from Romney's speech after his win in Wisconsin. But I wanted to call attention to it.
Maybe Mitt Romney does speak conservatism "as a second language," but he is trying to gain fluency.
he president, Romney said, has “spent the last four years laying the foundation for a new government-centered society.”“Government-centered society” isn’t the most felicitous phrase, nor the most memorable sound-bite. But that may be for the best. What it lacks in mellifluousness, it makes up for in deadly accuracy.
Every major initiative of the Obama presidency has placed the government at the center of the policy the president wishes to effect and the change he wishes to see. Its policies have not necessarily put government in charge, or given government total control; but they have made government a dominating presence.
Video below. It's pretty good. If you want the meat of it, listen from 1:40 to 3:00 (or even up to 6:00). Although he continues to avoid the word "socialism," he speaks of Obama's vision being to doom the economy such that the government must then do more, and says we know where that leads: Look at Europe.

I know that SCOAMT wants a "government-centric society."
I'm just not completely sure Romney doesn't.
And, before anyone jumps all over me- yes, I'm certain (well, relatively so) that Romney will be parsecs better than Obama. I'm just not sure his solutions will be sufficiently radical to fix the problems we've got.

>>>Something about the "S" word that causes spontaneous combustion of RINO hair.
The establishment think that accusing O of being a S is hyperbolic (Actually calling him a communist would be accurate, but hey, who keeps these ideologies straight anymore?) and turns off moderates, so they are looking for a way to call him a euro-zone socialist (and therefore forecast European style economic grief to the US should we keep O) without actually using the S word.

The word has now been used so often that it sounds like a gotcha word and has lost its punch. It's lost it's power while many still have no friggin clue what it actually means. Romney, instead, is defining it at its core. That, in my mind, is far more important to educating and appealing to those who want the government to leave them the hell alone.
To the idealist, the word "socialism" means "fairness".
I think it is smart to continue to avoid the word.

Actually, I don't think there is. "Government Centered Society" is pretty good. It's got some punch.
More-over: it could be a focus for an entire speech. One where he goes on about the Constitution establishing a People Centered Society- where people were in charge, and Government existed to serve them, but that Progressives have been "progressing" to Obama's Government Centered Society since the New Deal (I really think it's longer than that, but that's okay).

I liked the bit about unions at 8:05ish. We'll never get rid of unions per se (any attempt to hamstring them significantly will backfire.) The best we can do (IMHO) is push Right-to-Work and let them crumble under themselves. Which will happen sooner rather than later. (BTW, where's the commerce clause on that one when you need it?)
In any case, Romney isn't the rightest of the R's, neither was Santorum. Newt is...Newt, which is to say complicated. That being said, a term of Romney, even if it's a holding pattern, will slow the exponential gov't growth we've got going now. With any luck it'll will start to reverse some of it. If we don't start turning off the Government Morphine Drip (tm pending.) We'll never be rid of it. But you can't just cut an addicts supply when that addict (i.e. the voters) get's to call the shots. I wish we could roll cold turkey on this, but I just don't see it. So I'll take a wean if that's all I got.

Rather, I think what is really going on here is that Derbyshire broke two tacit rules of the entente between progressives and right-liberals. These rules are as follows: (1) The Right is permitted to be very modestly scientifically racist, so long as no action of any kind is advocated, and the left gets to shriek “racism”; (2) The education of children is entirely and completely the domain of the left.
Derbyshire broke both rules, and flagrantly. Not only does Derbyshire advocate taking personal action based on racist stereotypes, he also advocates teaching such foaming hatred to children. That is why he had to be defenestrated by National Review.

Consequently, it is becoming ridiculously obvious that all remaining Romney-haters are effectively engaged in the campaign against him becoming President. (They can no longer cover themselves with the thin veil that they really just want to see someone else win the nomination. – That’s over.)
That essentially puts them in league with the Obama campaign.
And that's all we really need to know about them.

ItÂ’s ironic that they hurl the utterly irrational and lame insult that Romney supporters are trolls. We are? Really? Trolls pretend to be something other than they are.
But consider that they are the ones who are verbally tearing down a man of significant accomplishment who has openly embraced the Paul Ryan Budget and who is solely challenging Obama for the Presidency. Attacking Romney makes them the trolls. – And from here on out, they should always be dismissed as such. Call them by their category: Obama Trolls.
And even more specifically: Romney Bashing Obama Trolls. (Or: RBOTs)

AFAIK, they do, how much they'll be, I don't. Oh well, my gasoline expenses just went way down, so there's that.
I'm not terribly distraught about it. This cold Guinness in my hand is helping, although I may have to give that up until things improve. If I can get back in a manufacturing job, which the great state of Florda is supposed to be on the forefront of (I hope), then everything will work out. And congrats to BTH - you have completed the great circle of Intawebz life by starting your job Monday.
I'm in a new band that plays classic rock and if we can position ourselves to start getting some convention gigs down here, that'll help.
Thanks for the well wishes. B'Gal and I will survive, just like we did when I was out of work the last time. We cut our expenses to the bone pretty much during that time, so UE may be all we'll need for a while. That's all I need, that and this ashtray... and this magazine...that's all I need.

When there was a chance that an alternative candidate could win the Republican nomination, we could give the Romney-bashers the benefit of the doubt.
But now those who continue to bash Romney have no excuse left. They are Obama Trolls bashing Romney - plain and simple.
Sure, they will claim that they hate Obama also. But thatÂ’s just the thin disguise they employ to give themselves the permission to bash Romney. And now itÂ’s obvious.
They are Obama Trolls who pretended to support weaker GOP nominees. - Just so they could get their jollies by ripping on the likely Republican Nominee who would eventually be challenging their precious, messianic Obama.

Even Mr. Obama who clearly has anger fueled daddy issues with Bush didn't run against him as a "neo-con warcriminal Bu$hitler"... so riddle me this. while "government centered society" might feel a little lukewarm coffee to you.. are you smarter or dumber then radical leftists?
Also, Americans don't want to believe that they elected a euro-socialist or that Obama is a far left academic radical. "government centered society" will play well in the suburbs, its about as far as most people are willing to go agree in their criticism of him. Not to ramble.. Yeah, some of us still don't like Mitt. If he'll keep saying the kind of thing he said in this clip, it may get better. But it certainly won't if jerks like you keep up your little emotional blackmail routine.
Yes- people are people no matter where you are, and most of them just get more stubborn (no matter the cost to themselves) when they believe they're being brow-beaten, or railroaded into something.
A better way to handle it is just to ignore the more vociferous ones, and to provide information to those who ask for it. Most of them (no- not all) will come around- but the only thing they (we) have left is our option of griping about Mitt. If you're going to say that griping about Mitt is the same as supporting Obama, you'll find that some of them (on this one: them, not me, but it's true nonetheless) will be willing, if reluctant, to prove you right.

YOU CAN HELP in a real way here. Contact your local Republican party office and tell them that you are making yourself available to be a poll watcher on election day. The more Republican bodies that we have at each polling place, the better the chances of stopping this kind of nonsense. They will train you what to watch for as far as election fraud goes, and how to challenge it, as well as how to watch at the end of the evening when they tally the votes from the machine. It's not hard . Do this one thing if you can .

As many as I feel it necessary and yes it will.
Mitt's never getting my vote. I don't "owe" the Republican Party a vote just because "my guy" lost.
This country vacillates between a Republican and a Democrat in the White House. With Mitt as the Republican president, the next Democrat will be more of an America-hating Socialist then Obama, and Mitt will be painted as the new face of "Conservatism".
I'm not voting for a pro-socialized medicine, pro-abortion, anti-gun, big government Republican. I don't care WHAT he sounds like this week.
Better a Republican Congress who can thwart Obama's efforts (yes, including Supreme Court nominees) and a conservative nominee in '16, than a Romney Presidency that fixes nothing and drags us all to the Left.

I've been in the hospital three times in the last two months with health concerns due to job related stress. Each time things gets bad, I push myself harder assuming that I can magically fix the situation.
Now my cardiologist has taken a stand and proclaimed I appear incapable of making decision with my own best health in mind.
Now I am on short-term disability. I intend to use this time to get healthier and the look for a new employer.
18 years with them, but I can't allow them to kill me.
I know it's difficult to consider with any sort of clear mind how to hold on to your job and, most importantly, your health benefits, while not working yourself into the grave but, sometimes it's just that cut and dry: You work your ass off to keep a job and benefits that, in the end, will make absolutely no difference in your life when you drive yourself into the hospital for good. Trust in someone you care for to lend guidance and try to do something to reduce the stress in your life. Stress erodes the well-being of a healthy person and is deadly in those with chronic illness.
God Bless. I hope all improves for you.
