I think the real reason for the Florida visits by Mitt is to bolster Mack's chances down there to unseat Nelson. Mack seems to be running a really weak ass campaign.

Not sure about Mack. Seems to be running a shoestring campaign up here in NE Florida. Nelson keeps hammering away with commercials that say he bounced a check once or something. For a sitting senator, it's really the weakest campaign ads I've ever seen. Nelson looks fossilized in all the ads I've seen.
Great ad by Romney. This one and the For Love of Country ad should be run non stop through Tuesday.

There is a big rally outside of Philly tonight (tonight?).

They are having a big rally at the IX Center in Cleveland (Ohio) tomorrow? Or is that Monday?

CNN killed the empty auditorium feed
-------
Are you teasing or were the crowds small?
--------
Well, crowds have been embarrassingly small in recent days.
The crowd last night, in Ohio...was pathetic.
They even had the people behind Barky, evenly-spaced, with spaces between them...to try to hide how few there were.
So it wouldn't surprise me if there were a mostly empty auditorium.

The high quality of the Romney campaign has been a pleasure to watch. I'm sure all of us can find ways to nit pick, but overall I think we can all agree that it has been well run overall. Refreshing, given the usual buffoonery of Republican campaigns. Thus, we can have hope of victory on Tuesday.
Now that it seems there is some possibility of victory, my other hope goes beyond Tuesday. I hope that someone (preferably many someones) is made to pay for the crimes that have been committed over the last 4 years. Someone has to answer for all this. Putting them out of power for a while, sending them back to lurk in the shadows, is not enough. They must be dragged through the courts, ruined, bankrupted, and disgraced. It's a great error that we do not punish this kind of corruption with death. Whatever suffering can be legally inflicted on these trash should be visited upon them without mercy.

My spirit is higher now than it has been for a long, long time.
The reign of Obama has been a shadow over my soul. Out here in California, even though I have a wife who shares my world-view and friends who agree with us, one tends to feel like an island of decency in a sea of mendacity.
Intellectually I've been highly confident of a Romney win since the conventions, but my spirit has lagged behind. Until now.
Mitt: FINISH HIM.

I just realized, earlier today, that this will be the very first time in my life (and I'm not that young) when I've actually been voting *FOR* a President, and not *AGAINST* the other guy.
I actually like and respect Mitt Romney. I'm certain there will be times I'm infuriated by some policy he's embraced, or some fight he's chosen not to fight, but I really believe he's going to be a very good President, with the potential to be one of the greats -- in part because he'd disagree with that last sentiment.

couldn't get the link to post--here's the article from this morning's Cleveland Plain Dealer, that Dem rag.
CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Legendary performer Stevie Wonder this morning expressed his love for Cleveland during a get-out-the-vote rally at Cleveland State University.
His love went largely unrequited.
Fewer than 200 people showed up to watch Wonder perform a handful of his hits at the early voting event in support of President Barack Obama.
Most of the people had learned of the event just hours before the 9:30 a.m. start time. Some just happened to be in the area and followed the live music.
Campaign volunteer Ken Johnson asked who in the crowd had voted early before introducing Wonder.
Nearly every hand went up.
Wonder took the stage at about 10:30 a.m.
"I do a song. You go vote. You come back. We do some more music," he said before opening with "Sir Duke."
No one left to vote after the first -- or any -- song.
A shuttle meant to take voters to the nearby Cuyahoga County Board of Elections left empty after Wonder's final song, "Superstition."
Obama for America Ohio, which hosted the rally, informed its nearly 34,000 followers on Twitter about the event around 10 a.m.
"Perhaps it wasn't advertised properly, but the people who are here are fired up," said Bill Milhoan, of Mentor.
Milhoan, who said he supports Obama, was one of the few people in the crowd who have not already voted.
"It would be disingenuous to say I am here because of Obama," he said. "How do you pass up a chance to see Stevie Wonder?"

That would be my guess. The google maps picture makes it look like a central farmhouse with lots of open fields around it.
A quick search comes up with aerial shots of a county fair-style carnival there -- yep, it looks big.
And I'd guess he'll get a big crowd -- he can draw from New Jersey (the parts that aren't still in crisis mode) and eastern Pennsylvania, and he hasn't been to either yet, so there shouldn't be any political fatigue.

Son #1 is about a week and half away from the 'Crucible'....and after that, he's a Marine. Yeah...I have a bumper sticker ready, but I won't put it on my car until after my son no longer has to refer to himself in the third person.

I still can't find any sympathy for Manhattanites who didn't leave town,
never cooked a meal in their lives and had nothing stocked up,
presuming they'd always be able to get takeout and delivery. Now that
the TV and internet don't work and their cell phones are powered down I
picture them huddling in a room with little baggies filled with poop all
around them, staring at a world gone mad where they have to fend for
themselves. What does anyone expect them to do, read the books their
decorator put in the shelf?"
Hey man, some of us Manhattanites are only here because of business and are going to be voting for Romney, so don't harsh on us all. I hate liberal New Yorkers as much as anyone, I just have to be here to get paid. For now.

I drive central to northern CA constantly, and you should see the signs in the growing areas. They've even plastered over their own names and billboards for Romney in the Central area. Up near Sac, one guy has brama shave type billboards - I gotta get shots of them before they go down.

290 Please stop with the "Yankees are pussies" bs. It really is annoying.
Yeah, it's more of a pampered, elitist city-dweller type of thing.
All big cities have them.
Being a huge city...NYC has a shit-ton of them.
I'm not a Yankee, and my ancestors go back to Confederacy/Cherokee roots.
But the pussification of our fellow citizens is not a north-south thing.
It's an elitist city-dweller thing.
What is annoying to me, is when city people make fun of those of us who live in the 'sticks'.

Really. Metrosexual is the word for it. All the northeast seems to be infected with it. I think it's in the water.
We were up in Southern Connecticut/ NY City a couple of years ago on business, and this joker that lives there (who was our business rep) was trashing Rudy Giuliani and praising Bloomberg. He's fifty something.
Bloomberg is an ass, no question about it. Rudy came off to a lot of those people as some kind of facist, because he actually had solid ideas for solving problems, instead of singing Kum-bay-yah and expecting them to go away.
They are doomed (New yorkers) unless they find their dicks again and change their ways. This whole episode is like something out of the end of "Atlas Shrugs", when the lights go out in New York City. These last four years have just been straight out of the pages of that book and have been.......surrealistic. To say the least.

Because garbage in: garbage out. The polls are only getting a 9% response rate, and that means they are incapable of properly building a representative sample of the nation's voters. In fact, the Pew Research center data notes that the more likely a voter is to vote, the less likely they are to answer a poll.
The polls are trash, utterly worthless.

358 This is why the damn polls are so mystifying - we know Romney has a huge lead among white men. We know that Obama is up by only 2 points among women. We know independents favor Romney. So how the hell can the race still be tight?
----------
If they hide the fact that Romney has a sizeable lead....
Then it paves the way for them to 'contest' the results.
I think the DNC has an army of lawyers waiting in the wings to do just that, if Romney wins.

If you go by YouTube comments, lots of young people like the old artists.
Though personally I always wonder whether when YouTube commenters announce how young they are and post under a female handle whether to take the comment at face value.
Example of what I mean:
"I know. I'm 17, and if a guy sang this to me I'd be puddy in his hands."
Currently the third comment on Cole's "Smile" video. If you like the oldies like me, you come across similar comments way too much not to think it's odd how often the person proclaiming it is barely not legal.

True enough in my case. I don't ever pick up my landline phone (the only reason I still have a landline is because it's included in my cable package and because it comes in handy when I use it to find my cell phone.) And I am not even answering my cell when it shows a number I don't recognize because I am sick of being polled and also - considering I can't spare any more money to give to RR -sick of being hit up for cash. They really don't let up when they get you on the phone and I've done all I can, financially. I understand where they're coming from - I've worked the phones for RR myself, but I have too many expenses right now to be guilted into pulling out the credit card again. And I am certainly in the "will crawl over ground glass to vote on Tuesday" column.

Pat Cadell said this afternoon, that if Romney doesn't win this...Benghazi is going to turn into another Watergate, with hearings in Congress.
He said that, combined with the Fiscal Cliff that the country will suffer in January....that it will not be pretty.
I'm not sure what to make of Cadell...
He's been one of those who've been saying that "Romney should be hitting Benghazi hard".
And then today, he didn't seem to act like it mattered.

Charleston seems to be the same way. There's a little patch downtown that looks nice, and the rest is a ghastly slum. South Carolina in general is an awful place, and they have some of the highest taxes in the country. They clearly are not spending it on anything visible in the state.

The key issue is that "Margin of Error" is not -defined- to mean "The one true answer lies within these bounds."
It's "If we reproduced this exact procedure and methodology, the randomness should mean that we get a result within the MoE 95% of the time."
If you methodology is sound, you get a correct measurement. If your methodology is unsound, you get complete crap ... in which you can still manage to drive down the "Margin of Error" to whatever range you desire with the law of large numbers. (Bigger sample). But it's still garbage.
It's the measure of internal self-consistency.

That's true with mathematics, but its not true with people. People introduces a variability that statistical efforts cannot quantify down to a specific number, and that was what Iowahawk was pointing out. And he's right. You can come up with a margin of error that's fairly reliable when counting how many beans go bad in a crop or how many cars will develop a fault. You can't really do that with human behavior or choices.

The part I find interesting is that the polls act like there's a fairly substantial slice of people wavering like lost sheep. But more concrete studies indicate that people change their minds -once- on something like voting for someone. And party-ID shifts are more like once-per-decade. per person.
More trivial details (like 'Shall I answer the phone?') end up being most of the shifting.

I think you miss the point. Yankee-hatred isn't personal, it's institutional. Yankees have denigrated southerners since there WAS a south, and they don't feel bad about doing so. I've heard it, literally, my entire life. When I lived up north, the first thing people did when they found out where I was from was make fun of my home.
Not to mention y'alls' ancestors invaded and torched our cities and ruined our economy for thirty years, instituted military governments, denied our basic rights, summarily executed people who didn't get in line quickly enough, and unconstitutionally re-wrote laws (ever wonder why Reconstruction is glossed over in history class?); and some fuckwit up-thread was bragging about this.
And this Sandy incident is just confirmation of a longstanding judgment. To southerners who, depending on their flavor, deal routinely with hurricanes, tornadoes, droughts, fires, and floods, all this bitching and whining and stupidity from a small hurricane is pathetic. A few days without power and New Yorkers are pulling guns on one another in the street and crying to all who will listen about dying. And apparently, almost none of them saw fit to prepare despite long warnings. It's weak. And whining about being playfully named-called over it by a segment of the population that is *routinely* defamed in print and broadcast is moreso.
Toughness is more than attitude, yankees. And when actual hardship arrived, most of you were found wanting.

Didn't Nate Silver first make a name for himself as a baseball statistician? As every baseball fan knows, baseball is all about the stats - what's this pitcher's ERA, how many RBI's per season does that guy average, how many away games does this team win as compared to home games, etc, etc, etc. So Silver moved from baseball and became an authority on elections when he predicted in 2008 that McCain was going to lose - which everyone knew anyway. So now he's cited by lefties as some sort of stats god.
One small but pleasant consequence of a Romney win on Tuesday would be the end of the myth of the Infallable Nate Silver.

Listen, peoples, this is not the Civil War. Take your wrath to WaPo and help me, if you have a plank in your eye and want to mess with people. Fight for Benghazi and the four Americans who died on 9/11/12. There was finally an editorial today in WaPo, and they called FOX News, you know the excellent reporting by Jennifer Griffins, Catherine Herridge and Bret Baier, "scurrilous." I'll give them some scurrilous...
Here's the deal, those of you slamming those suffering people (AMERICANS!) in NJ and NYC after Sandy: they were unprepared, thanks to the US Government since 9/11 and President Bush not focusing on personal preparation. Thanks to the stupid media over hyping storms.Yes, even after Katrina people don't have water or tuna or crackers (I am not talking of those whose homes were flooded away or burned to the ground and are homeless right now). I am talking about middle class citizens who ignored this storm because of Irene and did nothing. And there are probably many of them fighting for gas right now.
Americans have amnesia and very short attention spans. I worked with emergency services here in Florida after 9/11. People were just starting to learn about shelter in place.People, after 9/11, were paying attention. Some even got more prepared after Katrina. But they, again, have short attention spans, and the reign of terror under Barky certainly has no focused on small government or taking care of yourself!
To start yapping about inner cities, and how "ugly" NOLA and Charleston are, well, my pretties, I am a redneck. Generations of redneck, darlings, and I am not going to let you slam FenelonSpoke, who is a good person. I am also not going to let you slam two very pretty Southern cities. FenelonSpoke and others like her are hurting right now. I know what that feels like, after seeing my beautiful Mississippi Coast wiped off the earth with Katrina. So, knock it off with the "I was without power for x amount of days and I was prepared." It does not matter. It does not help. People are in bad shape there, and are relying on FEMA, which is not some magic carpet ride of supplies.
Residents of NYC or NJ, answer this: did your authorities, prior to Sandy, tell you that you would need 3-7 weeks of food and water? If not, shame on them. That is standard here in the swampland of Florida. And, one more dang thing for those of you currently slamming NJ, we here in Florida prepare because we go through this every stinking year: hurricanes and tropical storms. I can prep like nobody's bidness.
So, knock it off and if you have some pent-up venom, take it to the WaPo and fight for four dead Americans. Or take it to the mainstream media and link Drudge links to the forgotten borough of Staten Island and the looters of Queens. Do not start a Yankee/Rebel thing here.

Been away for a while. Couple of thoughts on the current subjects:
Benghazi: Best for Romney to leave it alone. It's too close to the election to explain it to low-information voters, who are the only ones who have not made up their minds yet. Could backfire if he tries it. He doesn't need Benghazi to win.
Yankee Pussies: I was born in Boston, but raised in Texas. I have extended family near Boston and D.C. They are ALL pussies. But, it is a stereotype to call all Yankees pussies. Not all of them are. Watch the youtube video of the great boatlift of 9/11 as an example. Lots of good people out East.

The larger buildings are their -own- water tower. Meaning they have to have power to the pump in the building to pump water to the 30th floor. (Or whatever). You can't "just" pressurize the pipe enough to do the job - because you end up needing special pipes, etc.

You want to see something that might may you as insane as me?
NJ can vote by email or fax:

Now get cracking and protest this. How the heck are they going to do this honestly and vote by email or fax? Governor Christie needs a nap to think this is ok. This is insane. Or, NJ residents, is this normal?
Or, if you are bored and feel like telling libs all you know about Benghazi, and I could write a book, go here. Or, be like me and insert Benghazi into any comments even discussing ear wax just because:

The trolls are mighty quiet today. I guess they are watching football or something. So I am going to turn in early, but I am there flipping them out when I have time.

A fair amount is just hyperbole or 'in' jokes. Val-u-rite is good for starting the grill, for instance.

My Mom was 12 when electricity reached her house. They had Aladdin Lamps, bet few remember those. Let's see that would have been 1940, in rural Texas.
It would have been around '48 in my neck of the sticks.

That involves dipping of various body parts into pudding as a celebration of victory, typically political victory. I suggest you lay in a supply before Tuesday.

People were talking in generalities. And then it got a little more personal. But no one (on either side) really slammed anyone.

Ok, you are forgiven. Now go fight a real war at WaPo. Those "Yankees" do not know what to do with me except call me a "right winger" or a "Foxie" or what not. They speak in incomplete sentences and then yell "spam" to the moderator. My husband got worried about me Thursday as he said I was "obsessed." He is still tied up in the laundry room and whimpering.

When my daughter still lived at home, and the electricity would go out, she would ask what did you do when you were young and couldn't watch TV? I said we didn't know what a TV was when I was young.

ChristyBlinky is going to request a ballot and fill it out with the address of Govenor Christie. It is an easy mistake if I am caught. Many uses of the word "Christie vs Christy" plus the fact I was in NJ a year ago. It could work, right?
THIS IS INSANE. Even though the electoral college will go for Barky anyway. Perhaps if it will keep them yelping about "needing more time" I should let this one go.

Mr.Coyote and I went to see Kid Rock at WinStar a few months back. The tix were outrageously expensive but Mr. Coyote and I don't get out of the den much, so I splurged. Best show I've seen in a coon's age, with the exception of Bob Seger, who is as underrated as Springsteen is overrated. (Let the flames begin).
I also love me some Rodney Atkins. His song "These are My People" likely describes a significant portion of the southern branch of the moron horde.
BTW there were a number of wimminfolks who burst into tears at Seger's show during "We've Got Tonight". It might have had something to do with all the booze we had consumed, but boy did that bring back memories.

BTW, I go on a political board. The people there from NY call me a moron and evil simply because I am now longer a voting Democrat, so they just loathe any Conservatives period. Those Yankees don't care if I'm a Yankee too. I came here because the conservative outnumber any liberal trolls. ;^)

I am so used to being called a redneck that names never bother me. I just laugh. I was in college out West and had such a Southern accent I could have been from another country. It is always a surprise when I show some intelligence, as they thought I was Ellie May Clampett. "Gollee, Paw, I need me some vittles! Let me go rustle up some possum!" I was in a nutrition class in college (for RN degree). The subject of "hominy" came up and all eyes came to me. I honestly did not know what hominy was (the puffed corn looking stuff from a can), but I did weigh in on "grits."
I was blessing hearts right and left on WaPo the other day just to watch them swarm with anger re: Benghazi. One leftie started then blessing my heart back! Lefties are not very original or have complex thoughts, bless their hearts. I also follow the blessing of hearts with, "good try!" as they are cretins. It is like kicking a hornets nest and is better than rioting, which I will do if Barky wins. That's right, I will riot. Follow me on twitter #ChristyBGoesBerserk! (not really, I do not twitter).
