Romney needs to make a huge shift come this summer.  If I were his advisors, I'd plan on running the most relentlessly positive campaign possible.

Romney's negatives are way too high right now.  He needs to redefine himself as a positive problem-solver, and he needs to give some fricking specifics instead of warmed-over, second-rate rhetoric.  I'd run a series of warm-fuzzy ads which include short summaries of Romney's specific plans (i.e. energy, jobs, taxes).

Any attacks on Obama should be humorous and focused on the president's incompetency.  The last thing we need is Santorum-like earnestness.  Stay light, but tear the bastard apart with condescending humor. 

The only path to election I can see for Romney is to replicate the Bush map.  He HAS to win Ohio or somehow replace it with Pennsylvania (which, barring economic collapse, is going to be very, very difficult).  He absolutely has to lock down the South, including Florida. 

He has ZERO chance in Michigan, especially considering that there will be HUGE turnout due to the likelihood of a Constitutional Amendment protecting collective bargaining rights being on the ballot.

At this point, I think Romney will run better than McCain but worse than Bush.  It's hard to envision a scenario wherein he wins the Midwest, especially considering the backlash against Republican governors in Wisconsin, Michigan, and Ohio. 

Oh well. Still a long time.  A lot can change.

Over 7 months to election. It's going to be a long, hot summer that could prove to be volatile, certainly will be interesting. Yes - this.  As a man thinketh, so he is.  None of us could go to Russia and just fit in - match up their world view.  That's why the good ones (the ones who think like us) leave there.  They don't fit in either.  And all to often through history those better people have been the ones worked to death or starved to death, etc.

The Russians will always be our enemy at some level, if only because of the basic fact that every great power looks to its own interests first (except the US, I guess).  All other great powers are always seen as antagonists, and generally that's true.  If only the US had historically looked after its own interests, instead of engaging in international do-gooderism, we'd all be WAY better off.  Our soft heartedness as individuals has been allowed to contaminate foreign policy to a sickening and self destructive degree.  It's a disgrace that we act like such clueless saps when dealing with enemies.
