More From the Preference Cascade [OregonMuse]
— Open Blogger

What, no new thread for 3 hours? Wow. OK, here's a little fresh meat. Or, nearly fresh:

I pulled this out from the sidebar.

Also, check out this from a Bay Area (CA) Chik-Fil-A from a couple of weeks ago doing the brouhaha. Watch to the end of the video to see how incredibly long the line is.

I'm hoping these are harbingers of November.

1 I got excited recently when a long-time democrat friend (aged about 70) told me that he and his wife went and had their voter registrations changed to "Republican" last year. He sadly was still a little messed up as he told me Bill Clinton was the best President ever.

8 Nobody ought fool themselves. CA has plenty of committed blocks (teachers, fire, police, nurses, govt workers, labor unions) that aren't going anywhere. And then there are the utopian dreamers that think the dems will heal the earth. Then there are the ignorant dems running around saying Obama has great commercials and "I can't believe Romney hasn't paid taxes in 10 years". It all adds up to continued democrat dominance. All the republican minority can manage is to block their bloodthirsty tax increases.

The significance of the Chick-Fil-A turnout?

Barky came out of the closet with his 'support of gay marriage'.

The Chick-Fil-A thing was the first opportunity that the people had...to vote with their feet...after Barky came out in favor of gay marriage.

This is why the lapdog media were so desperate to ignore the turnout.

They've been repeatedly told how great things are by the MSM and only the extremely brainwashed and/or stupid are voting Dem.    Unfortunately that's about 48% of the turnout.    There is another 50 % of the pop who won't show up at the polls at all,  and to be honest,  probably shouldn't.

Posted by: Dirks Strewn at August 18, 2012 01:28 PM (D9CxV)

26 CA has a few conservative enclaves, I just don't think it is enough to turn the state. At least not till they totally run out of money and then more people will wake up and wonder what the hell happened to their supposed utopia

Posted by: Ma Bell, now R squared at August 18, 2012 01:28 PM (uVuwp)

27 Cali is impossible this cycle.

But, many GOP/conservative problems in Cali aren't really political.  My local GOP, for example, has no internet.  The problems facing the GOP are structural and organizational.

Additionally, those that like the inside baseball of Cali politics understand the following: more than any other state in the union, Cali counties and cities are utterly intertwined with the state and federal governments and unions.

For a state that has so much federal involvement down to the smallest government level, it's not at all surprising that anything resembling a Conservative idea would not thrive.  That much involvement from Kleptocrats 3000 miles away creates rot and dissolves liberty.

Besides fixing structural/organizational issues, California needs help from the other 49 states, in the form of sensible congressmen and senators.  Only when the federal government is scaled back, and only when state and local governments become more important and more influential, will an authentic conservative resurgence be seen in Cali.

We can talk about practical ways to implement such things (and there are practical ways),  but none of them matter with the federal government so involved in the state.

And that, in short, is the real political battle playing out in our era.  No matter what happens, as long as power stays concentrated in DC, liberals eventually win.  The red states will slowly be corrupted and turned into blue states by the ever increasing and creeping federal government.

Posted by: Hopeless at August 18, 2012 01:29 PM (Uxghe)

28 California is impossible for RR to win. By county it is red, by population it is blue. 55 EV for the Dems. Hell will need snowplows first.

42 It is simply not possible for Romney to take California in any realistic scenario. The problem is that for every person standing in line in Chick-fil-A, there are 25 looters and moochers living in Los Angeles and San Francisco. I live in Long Beach (SW LA County) right next to Orange County, and I have one of the most conservative congressmen in the House, and STILL our district went for Obama in 2008. It is simply.not.possible. I went looking for polls here in California, which are few and far between, but the latest one, from the beginning of July, had Obama +18. Remember, in a year when EVERY other state in the union went for Republicans, in 2010, the Democrats took every statewide office, and increased their lead in the State Assembly. This state is so boned, there is nothing short of revoking statehood that will fix it.

Regardless- I go a bit past "twinge" and start muttering curses and foul slander about the halfwit with the sticker. And for some reason, here in the RDU area a very high percentage of these stickers are found on those little electric shitbox prii cars.

Nah. First, she ain't taking it. No upside for her- if princess backnine goes down, it's her fault. If the mincer wins, it's because he was a brilliant campaigner and hills just came along for the ride.

Then if o'dipshit won, the economy would flush and either there would be no more republic for her to be president of, or the dumbocrats would be in the wilderness so long chelsea clinton would be an ugly crone by the time they made a comeback.

Second, that haggish tubby bitch is Ipecac on two legs for a large segment of the population... despite the fact she in reality won the DNC nod last go 'round, her negatives were huge over on our side (a.k.a Saneville). Well, not entirely, but the white guilt that made people who otherwise would never have voted for a Democrat, let alone one that talked about raising energy prices, redistributing wealth, and raising taxes is gone. Obama loses a lot of the votes he bled across party lines last time, and a lot of independent votes he got last time.

Now that you mention it, I wonder if there were any Chick-fil-A outlets that weren't swamped on those days. I know the West Hollywood one was, and that city is as militantly PC-progressive as anyplace in the US. So if any outlets weren't swamped, perhaps they are simply poorly located.

The Clintons can give great speeches and Bill is someone that was great at reciting facts at his fingertips at the time. Then he went on a tirade about how stupid it is that black folks can't eat this stuff in public or it shames their race or some crap, and how everyone likes watermelon and fried chicken.

That's one of the primary rules of apologetics: leave room for the people you talk to to back out or change their minds, don't back them into a corner where they start defending stuff just out of defensiveness or feeling intimidated.
I honestly think a lot of black folks would walk away from Obama if they could without being accused of betraying a brother. The whiter they perceive him as (remember, halfrican American) the easier that gets. The more we white folks criticize him, the harder it is.

130 For the people who get a twinge (or more) of disgust when they see an Obama 2012 sticker, I have this suggestion. I live in an ultra blue state. I bring along in my car some good sized stick notes. I write things on them and them put them under the stickers while the people are away shopping or something. One sticker said "Republicans love rich people." I wrote "Obama loves thief of 1 billion dollars Jon Crozine" Another of my stickies under an Obama sticker said. "Forward to Greece 2012." It's even better when the people don't see the stickers and drive around with them wherever they go.

I still have a feeling that Obama will find some reason to drop Biden.  I am going to guess that his new VP running mate will be Tom Vilsack, former governor of Iowa.  That might help shore up his support in Iowa, Minnesota and Wisconsin.

Obama might lose New Hampshire.  He will surely lose North Carolina.  He might lose Pennsylvania (that's long on might).  My personal belief is that he will lose Ohio.  I also think he will probably lose Florida and might lose Virginia

If he loses Wisconsin and Iowa, it's game over.  That's why I think he picks Vilsack to run with him.

166 More preference cascade clues:

Maureen Dowd had a column which portrayed Obama as inept.
Bill Maher said that Obama will lose because he never thanked his donors.
Hillary refused to be on the ticket (and the information that Obama desperately asked was leaked).
Press is starting to make loud comments about how he won't give interviews to anyone but fluff media like rock stations or People.
Low turnout at Obama events.
HUGE turnout at Romney-Ryan events, along with Tea Party meetings.
Large donations when Ryan was announced.
Pathetic comments from trolls here.
Axelrod looks panicked.
Flop sweat on Obama.

Need more?

167 The best I can hope for in CA is to erode the dem majority in sac houses and possibly flip a dem congessional district to republican. Oh, and kill browns taxes and any stupid propositions (i think they are trying to pass bonds for bullet train stem cells this time.). I'm in a district that borders the bay area. Due to redistricting, my state assembly District actually covers Fairfield where that chick fil a was. Vote Mike Hudson for state assembly district 11. At the federal level, I think the R candidate trying to displace the 2006 elected dem is weak sauce. Felt like there was a better chance/race in 2010, but the red wave failed to make it to CA. Senate race is weak sauce too. Difi is actually somewhat respectable as compared to babs, and both wiill continue to represent the golden state.

168 "Does anyone else think Preference Cascade would make a great band name?"
Sounds like a prog-rock group.

The staging of it was laughable.

It's like they knew that it wouldn't be scrutinized...not like a regular crime scene.

No blood spatter....the body was proped up against a trash barrel....with drag marks in the sand.

It was declared a 'suicide', and then there was virtually no investigation of it....because it had been declared a 'suicide'.

170 I'll bathe in your tears that Tuesday night when our beloved President is re-elected for four more years of changing this hate-filled racist America.

171 kinlaw (144):
As I recall, Hillary supporters who couldn't reconcile themselves to Obama called themselves PUMAs. That stands for "Party unity, my ass!" and may also include a sly pun: taxonomically, a puma is the same thing as a cougar, so they may have been hinting that a lot of them were older women with a taste for younger men.
